I have been going to the same high end salon on the NorthShore of LI for years and years... and I have to say I have been getting the same boring cut and blow out. I had the opportunity to go to Thomas Cole Salon...I walked in last minute, they were able to squeeze me in. The environment was hip and chic very downtown NY vibe.. great coffee and a warm and friendly environment. Liza did my color and gave me some kind of fabulous keratin conditioning treatment which left my hair healthy and shiny!! Color (i am brunette) came and rich and chocolaty with pretty undertones of deep reds. Then I went to Linda to blow my hair... Wow, extremely talented, very different style of blowing out the hair, with soft natural effortless waves. I will surely be going back!! more

I would give this place 6 stars if i could! i went to the Thomas Cole salon to get my hair Brazilian straightened and everyone that works there is SO nice! my hair is so beautiful and soft and amazingly straight!! my hair was so unmanageable before i got the treatment done and now all i have to do is blow dry it and its so perfectly straight! i have gotten my hair done so many other times at other salons and this is by far the best!! the treatment is all natural and its a miracle!!! thank you so much!! i will definitely be back! more

I have been going to Thomas Cole for over a year now and they are the best. Linda cuts & blows my hair like no one else. She is fantastic. I know she does celebrity hair in the Hamptons, but I definitely feel like a superstar when she works her magic. Two months ago, I opted to get hair extensions with Liza. I had been thinking of it for a long time, but was very nervous. I have very fine baby hair that also tends to frizz & damage easily!! I chose to to take the plunge because I totally trust Liza. Liza is is such a perfectionist, she custom blended the extensions by hand from three colors picking up low lights & highlights in my hair. She really spent so much time on me, making sure I would be happy. My hair looks so natural, my own Mom whom I hadn't seen in months had no idea I had it done!! She thought I finally got my hair to grow somehow. BTW, Betty does my color & she does an amazing job as well! The Ladies of Thomas Cole Salon are like the sisters you wish you had, they really take good care of you and they make you look amazing- what's better than that!? Please know that I've waited a week before reviewing this salon to know that I was calm, cool and collected. I went to get a simple blow dry for my son's graduation party. I have short, soft fine hair with a great $175 haircut from a salon in the city, so blow drying my hair is a no brainer. I knew something was wrong when I was assigned to Francesca and then mysteriously two days before my appointment I was told she ""no longer worked there."" The girl who did my hair was so sweet and anxious to please, it's just that she has NO idea of how to blow someone's hair. It's not about the $40 fee for doing it and the $10 tip I gave her, [I felt bad for her and I wanted out of there fast] it's about the terrible job she did! I had to be at a party at 12:30, by the time I got out it was 11:15, had to go home, put my make-up on, get dressed and make it to the party in time. If I had the time I would've made them wash it out and maybe not paid, but I needed to get out. I knew that the owner Tommy realized how she botched it up and they kept talking about their magic fingers and that the pomade would make it look good. He really tried to save the day to NO avail. In fact, the gunk that he put in my hair took 3 washings when I got home to get it out. I don't even know why I went! Came home and gave myself a gorgeous blow dry!. I even brought the girl a picture of my own hair blown out. Liza was her name. I only gave this place one star because that's all that's available, wish I could've gone lower. I came out of there with dry hair sticking up like I put my finger in an electric socket! May I add that the top was flat as a pancake and I had asked for body! The owner should've recognized the disaster and should've said ""wash her hair again, let me do it!"" I knew Liza was brand new because as I was walking out I heard the owner say: ""Good job."" That's just a blow dry! Can you imagine a haircut at this joint or highlights? Do yourself a favor and stay away! P.S. I just read the owner's blurb! The mysterious Francesca who was supposed to do my hair is his sister?? And she no longer works there? Oh brother! Bad, bad, bad!!! So I'm set up for Francesca, she has an argument with her brother or maybe doesn't want to come in at 10 to blow my hair? Man, get your act together! more

I'd been thinking about changing salons for months and I pass Thomas Cole every day on my way from the train station to my home in the evenings. On a whim I stopped in and was immediately taken back by how nice everyone was. I was pleasantly surprised and immediately made an appointment. I went in for my appointment and once again everyone was so incredibly friendly. Linda, the stylist I had an appointment with, consulted with me first as to what I want for my hair and how it usually falls and how I wear it. I was so incredibly happy with how Linda did my hair. The cut she gave me was not too far from what I already had, but you could see a huge difference with the changes she made. My hair is very easy to straighten but she cut my hair so it actually looks amazing curly too. She gave me the confidence to wear my hair naturally, which I never did before. I even added a touch of sparkle with a glitter extension. I've gotten so many compliments on my curls and the touch of sparkle! I also bought the Borne Shampoo and Conditioner which makes my hair so silky smooth. I also purchased Setjet, which is the first hair product that doesn't make my hair look greasy. Continuing on their friendliness, they even say hello and chit chat if they see me walking by on my way home from work. The people in my old salon NEVER were nearly as nice to me in the salon let alone outside if I passed someone on the street, and I'd been going there at least 15 years. I can't wait to go back in a couple of weeks for my next appointment! more

This place ruined my hair! I came in with beautiful light brown hair with blond hilights an left with a hot mess... bleached blond orange/bronze hair. Stay away! more

I have been hesitant to try a salon on Long Island since my husband and I moved from Manhattan almost 2 years ago. Now that we have a newborn--traveling to the city is virtually impossible. I scoured the internet and came across Thomas Cole--and I am so glad I did!!!! I went in yesterday for a cut and highlights and I am thrilled. Thomas spent a ton of time listening to what I wanted and really took his time to make sure I walked out happy. His attention to detail is impressive and I enjoyed how quiet the salon was. Thomas cares about his clients and his craft and wants to make his customers happy. He is also exceptionally talented and passionate about what he does. I HIGHLY recommend him ;-) more

The atmosphere of the salon is great. Everybody is so friendly and there for you. I feel like I am at home when I am in The Thomas Cole Salon and I can truthfully trust his judgement, talent, to make me look beautiful. I do not even have to tell him what to do. He is like a doctor he does an amazing job and tells me what will look best and after going to him so many times I trust whatever he says. When I leave there I always leave with a big smile and my hair looks healthy and shiney even after highlighting. I always recieve alot of compliments on my hair. I always have a great experience at The Thomas Cole Salon and it is worth the trip to Fly from Las Vegas, Nevada to Great Neck, N.Y. to get my hair done. After moving here from London 10 years ago I tried nearly every salon in the area over the course of the first couple of years. It wasn't until I found Thomas Cole that I ever had consistently great haircuts. He takes time to listen, offers his professional opinion and then works his magic with you to make each cut PERFECT, month after month after month. And did I mention color? What an eye he has for the subtleties and nuances that bring out your assets. You won't walk out the door feeling that you look like everyone else on the street. I am no princess, and I find most salons unpleasantly hedonistic and cookie-cutter repetitious, but Thomas Cole is an intimate, welcoming place with lovely staff and a comfortable atmosphere from which you will always leave feeling like you look your best . more

Arghh! I'm so upset I can't give Thomas more stars because this salon is truly STELLAR Need I say more than the fact that I LIVE IN LOS ANGELES AND WILL ONLY GET MY HAIR CUT FROM THOMAS! I can not tell you the amount of salons I have visited and been so disappointed by their claims of having ""a celebrity clientele"" or ""featured in so and so magazine."" Let me tell you these people have no soul and they certainly don't know how to do hair. My sister recommended I go to Thomas when I was visiting New York and I fell in love. I fly back to New York every 2-4 months and my hair looks fabulous even through the long wait until I go back. I never need a trim while I'm away because Thomas just knows how to cut may hair so that as it grows out it still maintains a well kept look and I can't even explain it but somehow it looks better and better as it grows. He just adds that finesse to your hair that it never loses it's oomph. The entire staff is warm and kind and make you feel so special. It is so hard to find the individual care when it comes to your hair but this place delivers. Any real gal knows the most important thing is your hair and Thomas will give you exactly what you need to make your hair look and feel amazing. As an extra bonus, Thomas has an amazing heart....a kind and charming human being and someone I do not call my ""hairdresser"" but my friend. Thomas is a real blessing and I ask anyone reading this to please book an appointment now, you will never have to search again because this is the type of salon you go to for LIFE....take it from me I live in Los Angeles and I travel back just so Thomas can do my hair I wouldn't dream of letting anyone else do it because he is truly that exceptional. more

Well, I grew up on long island and always felt that I would have to travel into the city to get my hair done. Admittedly, I have what I would consider to be difficult, very curly hair! I've often left salons not only hating my cut but feeling worse about my hair... This was the exact opposite of what happened at Thomas Cole! First of all, the receptionist was lovely and helpful on the phone and in person. The salon is an intimate, adorable place that is warm and welcoming. My cutter Linda seemed genuinely excited to cut my curly hair, and she sat and listened to everything I had to say about it with so much patience! Finally, she gave me a beautiful cut and showed me how to style it both curly and straight. They had great products that are preservative and chemical free (which is very important to me) but they didn't push them on me at all. At the end, the owner, Thomas, came over to introduce himself. I was literally beaming when I left! I will never travel back into the city for a cut again!! more

After being disappointed at another salon, Thomas Cole Salon was recommended to me. What a refreshing experience I had and continue to have with the attitude of the staff, the service and attention I receive each and every time I have my hair done. Thomas Cole Salon was a pleasant surprise and right in the heart of Great Neck!! I had decided after many years of so so haircuts and very unmanageable hair to make an appointment. It is now a month since I had a cut and Brazilian Keratin treatment with Betty and all I have to say is THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I am so happy to have found this salon!! The treatment I had received on my first visit from everyone at the salon was wonderful!!! I will be back!!! more

Guys and Gals, I'm not one to write a review but I felt compelled to do so for Thomas Cole salon. I was a loyal customer to my hairstylist for over 9 years until she packed up and moved to Greece about a year ago. Ever since then, I've had a series of bad experiences - one after the other. I decided to take my time and do some research on salons in Long Island. I was searching for a reputable salon to go and get my hair colored/corrected. I wanted to go back to being blond after 9 months of being a brunette (pregnancy forced the change to brunette). If anyone has undergone this journey (brunette to blond), you know it?s usually not a onetime process. So, even though I was pretty down about the fact that I wouldn't be blonde as soon as I hoped to be, after reading the reviews here on Citysearch, I decided to give Thomas Cole Salon a call and make an appointment. I am so glad I did! The great experience started from when I called to book the appointment. Francesca answered the phone (later found out that is his sis) and listened to my concerns about getting my hair color restored but without damaging it. She booked me with Thomas and promised I would leave there happy. She told me in advance that I should be prepared to be there for a while. I appreciated her genuine concern over the phone for my apprehension about leaving there ?a happy customer?. Thomas delivered as he promised. I have to say I really wasn't expecting to leave there happy - since the last few places I had visited promised the same. Thomas however was different. He took time to listen to me so he could understand exactly what I was looking for. Everyone at the salon was so pleasant. I was there for many hours and they asked me if I wanted to order lunch, provided me water and coffee. Just a wonderful experience all around! Having just had a baby 2 weeks prior, my hormones were all over the place. I left there crying from joy. Thomas made me a blonde! Yes! Thomas did this three step process (as I said I was there for almost the whole day)..but I did leave there blonde. He had so much patience with all the hair I have wrapping foil after foil (he did a ton of thin highlights all over) and the great conversation made the time pass by rather quickly. I also got a haircut form Francesca (another ?correction? from the last place I had been to). Never before has anyone taking so much time on my hair. I have the results to prove it was well worth it! Brother and sister are a superb team! I would definitely recommend Thomas Cole Salon to family and friends and to anyone looking for quality salon experience! Can?t wait to go back! more

Tommy has been highlighting my hair for a few years now and it is consistently excellent. He is very talented choosing the correct color for each person. You won't be disappointed. His entire staff is professional and capable. Francesca has been cutting my hair for 5 years and it's never looked better. Tommy has created a beautiful, warm, high end salon without the attitude. I have always had good healthy hair, up until my first pregnancy 4 years ago, at which time my hair became very thin and flat. My hair looked terrible, I went from one stylist to another, tried approx. 6 different salons over the past few years, and I finally gave up. My hair kept getting shorter and shorter, I was getting horrible, choppy haircuts that I did not ask for. In April, I found Thomas Cole salon on the internet, I decided to book an appointment based on the rave reviews. They were right! Thomas did an AMAZING job on my hair.
