I wrote the first LA Best Margarita artcile years ago. Now, this one is NOT it. Okay, but nothing special. The sour mix is simply not up to the task of the better liquors. Surpris...

Never again 3/26/2005

Margaritas were a big OK. Food was WAY overpriced. I ordered the fajitas and asked if they could do a combo of shrimp, chicken and steak since each was listed separately on the menu. Waiter said yes, but there would be an extra chage. That "extra" charge turned out to be $16!!! They charge me full price for chicken fajitas, and then $8 for the shrimp and $8 for the steak. Mind you I didn't get a full order of the chicken to begin with. Then we specifically asked if we could just order chips and salsa without the guacamole. Waiter said yes and then charged us for the guacamole anyway. He said that they don't just have chips and salsa. Because it was my man's b-day, i didn't act a fool, but trust...they will never see me again. What Mexican restaurant can't comp the chips and salsa??? Pros: decor, white beans Cons: price, mini tortillas, salsa---too mild more

Very Good 3/25/2005

When we walked in we were greeted with a smile and seated promptly. The service was excellent throughout the entire meal. The server was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The drinks were strong and decently priced. The food is pricey though. You do not get a lot for your money. The portions are very small for a mexican restaurant. One good plus was that the food came out so fast. Believe me we were starving and very happy to get served so quickly. The food was delicious, different and inventive. We had the chocolate crepe filled with tender lobster in a lobster cream sauce. Excellent but lukewarm (that was the appetizer). I had the BBQ pork wrapped in banana leaves. It was so tender. Overall, I would suggest going. We did go early to beat the crowds which I suggest. Therefore you do get great service and excellent food. Pros: good food, great service, strong drinks Cons: pricey more

simply AWFUL 3/4/2005

Despite the bad service I received the first time I visited a year ago, I decided to give the restaurant a second chance. Unfortunately, the 2nd time was even worse than the 1st. Starting from the service received from the rude valet attendants, to the hostess with an attittude, to the incompetent waitress who could not get our orders right, the restaurant was very disappointing. The food was mediocre yet overpriced! The only decent part of the evening was the house shots... more

Snotty hostess 2/10/2005

Friends and I met there recently for dinner and drinks at about 5:30. When we arrived there were at least 6 tables open and yet we were asked by the hostess (with attitude) to wait by the bar. We were seated ten minutes later at one of the previously ready tables... Our waitress was much better, friendly, prompt with refills, etc. Food was mixed. Two of us liked our meals and two of us thought the food was just OK but not worth the price. Atmosphere was an interesting mix of pretentious wannabees and regular people just out to have a meal. Although the food and waitress were fine, I probably won't return based on the weak drinks ( I had two with no buzz) and the hostess with an attitude. Note to hostess: You can drop the attitude. You're a hostess at a restaurant, nothing more. Pros: Friendly waitress, Good to people watch, Decent food Cons: Snotty hostess, Bit overpriced, Wait for table more

Viva Spanish Kitchen! 9/14/2004

We had our second meal at The Spanish Kitchen and it was good both times. The food is really good and the Tequila selection is the best in town. The first time we went was a Friday and it was a little crowded. Then we went this past Monday and we're seated immediately and chilled out for two hours. Pros: Decor, Food, Bar more

check out enchilada monday 4/14/2004

If you have never had the chance to go to the spanish kitchen, you could always try it on a Monday night where they have some great prices. The drink menu is expensive, so if you just drink water you can enjoy a place with a great atmosphere, delicious food and great service. Ask the waiter or waitress for recommendations, they typically know the favorites. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Fabulous atmosphere 2/2/2004

This place has such a lovely setting. Fireplace in the patio....Even the bathrooms are really, really authentically appointed. The food is top notch. Only drawbacks are the appetizers, kind of "fancy schmancy" and tiny! Rumor has it they are about to get chips and salsa...How they avoided it for so long...I dunno. Great happy hour every day of the week! Pros: spacious bar, ambience more

Not So Spanish 12/30/2003

The menu is a bit off the Spanish path, but decent enough -and in small portions. The drinks aren't anything special, either. The whole point of this place must be for the crowds. Definitely somewhere to go to people-watch. more

Terrific 12/19/2003

The Spanish Kitchen exceeded my expectations. I went for a couple of drinks, and decided to order some food. It was innovative and delicious. Camarones y Tamarindo (Shrimp on a Roasted Cactus) was fantastic and different than any other Mexican dish LA has to offer. And the guacamole and salsa were top notch. There were several large groups at the restaurant, but I was still seated promptly and taken care of. I highly recommend this place to anybody who wants to break away from your typical slop on a plate Mexican food served all over Los Angeles. Pros: Food , Service, Cleanliness more
