Editorial review from Citysearch 1/13/2013

my wife & I & our daughters stayed a long weekend @ Emily Morgan and if was AWESOME! the room was great and the view was just as great! We could see right into the courtyard of the Alamo. The room was clean as was the bathroom! the service was awesome, the staff treated us like we were the only people there! Whenever we asked for something we got it right away. the bartender in the bar was just as freindly as she could be! We recommend the Emily Morgan to ALL our family & friends!! Myself I'm counting the days until we return! It was just an enjoyable time. Also it is in the perfect location so that you don't need to drive your car anywhere you can walk to everything!!!!! This place is just AWESOME!!!!!! more

Don't expect much from Emily Morgan's 8/21/2011

""Location"" perfect! The Alamo and River Walk are within crawling distance. Comp parking as a guess saves you a few bucks also, but when it comes to the ""Over Stated"" menu...seek breakfast else where. We ordered Smoked Salmon/bagels for breakfast on Wednesday and were told we couldn't have it until Saturday. We ordered ""Petite Rib Eye"" and it wasn't available either. I asked the waiter if I were to return on Saturday for Salmon/Bagels would he assure me that it would be available? ""Yes"" it will. Guess what... I returned bright and early at opening on Sat am and low and behold...NO BAGELS! How in the heck does one run out of bagels to go with a ""signature dish"" The waitress then said...we have other bread available. The sour milk that was served to my grandson was the final straw. So I thought!!! AFTER BEING IDENTIFED AS SOUR, IT WAS SERVED TO ANOTHER FAMILY!!! WHO'S RUNNING THIS JOINT""? The dirty bathrooms down stairs, popular items not available throughout the week AND weekends on the menu seems to be a little much. I dealt with the screaming throughtout the day at the pool, but when it comes to ""todays"" economy, and where to spend money, Emily Morgan will be ""Kicked to the Curb"" Let's be fair here. The Chef ""Marv"", and waiter Raffel, are above reproach. The day shift guy named Joseph should be commended also. The Tuna dinner and chicken pasta are 5 star quality by anyones standard. If you where to order just that and leave, you would be impressed. Please put your hard earned funds else where and avoid this location completley. more

The Worst Hotel Stay Ever! 7/3/2011

Honestly could not believe that this hotel was given so many stars. I knew it was not going to start off well when we arrived at 3:45 pm to check in and myself and numerous others were told our rooms were not yet ready. (Check in was suppose to be at 3:00 pm or after.) Exhausted from traveling, we had to find something to do for nearly an hour. The next day we left and came back at 1:00 pm, they had not yet cleaned the room and when we asked, they said we could do a 'light service' which apparently means throwing out trash and giving us more towels. Nothing at all was cleaned--boy was this hotel understaffed. The coup de gras--the fire alarm went off at 1:00 am and it took us an hour and a half to get back into our rooms. No apologies from this hotel--nothing. Why did the alarm go off? A rain storm about a week ago messed up with a lot of their systems..... Yikes! I had no clue that a few inches of rain could put that much havoc on a building? When I called to speak with the manager, they left me on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up. Oh and don't try emailing because the GM doesn't respond either. This hotel gives independent hotels a bad name. Two good notes: the bellman, Johnny, was exceptional and the pool/hot tub area were relaxing. Traveler Beware: I STRONGLY encourage you pick another place to stay! more

Couldn't have been more pleased 5/3/2009

We stayed at the Emily Morgan about 8 years ago, and again during the 2009 Fiesta. Our room was large and comfortable, the bathroom was as big as any I've seen in a hotel, and the view was great. The Alamo gate is about 15 feet from the front door, and the Riverwalk 2 blocks. I can't think of anything they could have done to have made our stay any better. Next time we visit San Antonio, we will stay at the Emily again. more

Not worth it 4/26/2009

We were very excited to stay at this hotel - it's a good location close to the Alamo. Room wasn't very clean and wasn't nearly as nice as we expected. I'd recommend staying somewhere on the Riverwalk over this location. Staff was ok, nothing spectacular. more

Tasty but frustrating 3/10/2009

The food is really very good, but be prepared to serve yourself. The staff are borderline with their enthusiasm. They seem to wish to be somewhere else (certainly anywhere but in the restaurant.) I?ve dined there a half dozen times in the last two or three months and found that if I want a drink, I should visit the bar. Yes, get up from your table, go to the bartender and order your drink, wait for it to be made, then take it back to your seat. Some time after that, get up, go to the manager and ask for your bill. Pros: What goes on behind closed doors is wonderful Cons: Don't expect help from behind those doors more

Not worth the price 3/9/2009

I was so excited for my weekend at the Emily Morgan. I chose this hotel specifically for the room with the jacuzzi bathtub and view. I called after I made the reservation to make sure that I was going to get the room I requested and the woman confirmed it. When I got to my room, I was on the 3rd floor. I immidately went to the bathroom to check out the view from the tub and much to my diappointment, the glass was frosted over for obvious reasons. That night when I got into bed, there were holes in my bed sheets on one side though the bed was comfortable. The next morning when I went to take a shower, there was hair all over the tub. I was very disappointed. I would have rather had a cheaper, smaller room then a big dirty one. When I completed the review the hotel sent me after my stay, I let them know about my diappointments. The hotel manager called and left me a message and that was over a week ago. I have called and left messages for him to call me back but to no avail. If you arent satisfied with your stay, dont expect them to try and keep your business. more

Exquisite 3/4/2009

Absolutely fabulous.... Perfect. You must try the lobster mac and cheese!! My filet mignon was cooked to perfection. Everything is beautifully presented, and the taste is up to the beautiful presentation. You must eat here!!! more

A must have for quality class and fun 12/1/2007

With an upscale sophisticated feel Oro provides a great atmosphere with exquisite food and unbeatable drink specials. A little known secret is that on Tuesdays and Fridays(11:30 - 2:30); the bar offers 50 cent Grey Goose martinis. Yes I did just say 50 cents and Grey Goose in the same sentence. The pasta dish that they offer as a lunch special is an absolute culinary dream. I used to live in northern Italy and I would still put Oro's pasta in my top ten list. The staff is wonderful and the bar keeps are not only extraordinary at there jobs but smooth and really know how to make your visit singular and unique. A cool blend of returning locals who are known by name and visiting hotel goers who are indulging in the upper scale San Antonio vibe. Not to mention uber central, across from the Alamo and in a Historic Hotel. I give it a smiling 5 stars - LOgan more

Beautiful Hotel 7/6/2007

I've stayed at The Emily Morgan Hotel several times and have always been pleased with all the ammenities provided and the service I received. The rooms are HUGE and the location is perfect. You can walk to everything. I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in San Antonio for business or pleasure! more

This hotel rocks!!! 11/13/2006

My husband and I traveled to San Antonio to participate in the half marathon this past weekend and we were sooooo happy we stayed at the Emily Morgan. Their beds are incredibly comfortable! Also, the shower heads and water pressure are perfect after a hard workout. It is a superb location if you plan to spend time at the Alamo, the Riverwalk or even the Convention Center. The staff is very friendly and we were given great recommendations over and over again about where to eat in downtown San Antonio (in order to avoid tourist traps). Plus, they were wonderful to our two doggies. This hotel is beautiful, classy, and lacks any sort of snobby attitude that you might run in to at other upscale hotels. We'll definitely be back. Pros: Dog friendly, great location, best beds!!! Cons: Parking costs $18/day (but I'm not sure it's free at any San Antonio hotel) more

Michelle 12/2/2005

The room was sooooo unbelievably small. I also had a horrible view of the parking lot and other side of the city. Also, I specifically wanted a hotel with a business center. When I arrived I needed to use it right away. I asked for the ""business center"", and they directed me to a desk in the middle of the lobby with a computer and printer. This was their business center. To make it worse was the monitor was facing the street. So please don't do anything confidential in their ""business center"". Ridiculous for the price! more

Did not meet expectations 11/7/2005

Wife and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary and stayed at the Emily Morgan. We called a month ahead to reserve a room with a king bed, jacuzzi, and Alamo view. The woman on the phone kept trying to sell us a room with 2 full sized beds. When we arrived we were booked a room with 2 full sized beds. They apologized for the ""mis-communication"" and discounted us $50 per night. We felt cheated and ended up sleeping in a full sized bed (we have a queen at home) for our anniversary!! There were no bathrobes in the room, we called the front desk and were told there weren't any available!! The hotel has a cozy charm and is near the Rivercenter, riverwalk, and Alamo. For its location, and amenities, the Emily Morgan offers great value, but hit or miss service. Worth a try, but were not going back. Pros: Location, Value, Charm/Cozy Cons: Hit or miss service, Noise from Alamo tour more

honeymoon 5/28/2004

The Emily Morgan Hotel offers you the chance to email their staff. To my surprise, an assistant manager called for arrangements. We called 45 minutes prior to arrival and the plaza suite was prepared for us. They contracted an outside vendor for many of the accessories. The Jacuzzi was filled with water and bath salts. Rose petals floated on top of the water and several candles were lit around the tub. The windows could be opened from the Jacuzzi to see the Alamo and the rest of the breathtaking view. Chocolate covered strawberries and chilled champagne was waiting and dozens helium filled balloons. We were given valet parking and a carriage ride. The Oro restaurant was outstanding. Truly this was a honeymoon for the ages, one we will never forget. We plan to have many other romantic getaways at the Emily Morgan. I highly recommend it! Pros: staff, view, dining Cons: , none, none more

This is the place... 12/21/2003

We stayed at the Emily for the lighting of the Riverwalk and WOW! This is the hotel for you! We had room service every morning and it was delicous! Then we had drinks at the bar before heading out (an didn't spend a fortune!) and then hit the riverwalk which was right across the street! IT was perfect. Anyone who is anyone should try this out, it is definatley worth the stay. Pros: BAR, Room service, Close to everything Cons: None, none, none more

AMAZING!! 12/20/2003

What an incredible hotel! The best location, the best rooms that I have ever stayed in, and teh staff is unbelievable! I recommend that you stay here everytime you go to San Antonio. I have stayed at some of the finest hotels in New York and San Fransisco and they don't compare to Emily Morgan. If you don't stay here you are missing out. Coming back soon... Pros: Romantic, Relaxing, Felt like home Cons: None, None, None more

Magical Home Away From Home 12/1/2003

This past Labor Day (2003), my best friend and I had the oppertunity to stay at this FABULOUS hotel. We wanted to get away from the norm, so after alot of searching, I found Emily. The pictures on the web sold me, and once we arrived, we were in total aew of her beauty! Once we had checked in and were given our room keys we were absolutely thrilled to see our FANTASTIC view!! We looked out onto the Alamo. We spent 2 nights with Emily, and the whole staff was wonderful. I have highly recommended this property to my friends, and we are planning our next Labor Day to include a stay with Emily!! We had EXCELLENT service. The onsite bar, ORO, is nice too. We had drinks there every night. AND she is located within walking distance to many of San Antonio's attractions, especially the River Walk!! Pros: Beautiful, Great Location, Fabulous Staff Cons: Only Valet Parking, Showers Water Pres more
