Decent 12/21/2011

**This is for the 4410 South 900 East location** \r \r Purchased a Groupon to try it out. The food was good-- not ""Oh, wow! This is fantastic!"", but good, solid Thai offerings. The customer service was excellent. Atmosphere was a bit on the dim side-- difficult to see the menus to order from, at least where we were sitting. It's a bit run down as far as looks go (my teen daughter quipped that Chef Ramsey would have a heart attack walking in there).\r \r Overall, we'd go back again with a Groupon. Food was good, service was even better. A bit pricey overall-- there are other Thai restaurants that are better, and cost less. more

Terrible Experience 4/15/2011

If I could give it negative stars I would. My date and I went there with high hopes. I had read great reviews about the atmosphere and the cool fish tank and the nice Thai music and great customer service and how it was a great experience. All false. The place looks like a dump. The ""cool fish tank"" is old and dirty with ugly, sad looking fish inside (sadly, looking at these fish was the best part of the night). The ""cool music"" was Katy Perry. The customer service was atrocious. There were only two other people in the whole restaurant and we waited a good ten to fifteen minutes to order. We sat in our booth in the dim lighting trying to make conversation about whether or not the walls falling apart were part of the design of the place or... most likely not. When we finally got our menus they were dirty and hard to read. I had printed off a coupon for this place from City Deals. Thankfully Thai Garden has tacky paper signs all over the walls saying ""present coupon before ordering."" The last straw was when they rejected their own coupon. That place was not worth it at half-off, and definitely not at full-price). It ruined our night and I'm writing this so that it won't ruin yours as well. Terrible experience and for the money they're asking, please please please go anywhere else! more

Great Food, Excellent Service 2/8/2010

Wonderful flavors and aromas, great menu selection, and excellent service meant a delightful dining experience. My wife, daughter and I enjoyed the following entrées family style.\r \r BeMee Hang MooDang - Noodles with sliced pork, bok choy and onion in a delicious broth\r Gang Ka Ree - Yellow curry with chicken, potatoes and carrots\r Pad Siew - Rice noodles, chicken, broccoli, carrots, cabbage and eggs in a black bean sauce\r Kaow Pad Sub Pa Rod - Jasmine rice with chicken, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, pineapple, roasted cashews and raisins\r \r I couldn't choose a favorite out of these dishes. Each was a taste delight. This was one of the best Thai meals we've ever had. We'll be going back.\r \r And we picked up a take-out on the way out.\r Pros: Great food, Excellent Service more

Good Food, Fast Service 2/23/2009

The food was very good. I ordered the yellow curry and it was flavorful with just enough bite to it. And although there were several other customers, there was no wait. The portions were slightly smaller than at other Thai restaurants I've been too but were perfectly adequate. We even had leftovers to take home. I would definately eat here again. For two people, it was about $20. more

Best Thai in Salt Lake! 2/14/2009

The Thai Garden serves the best and most authentic Thai food in Salt Lake. The restaurant is unassuming in the little strip mall and the decor is not the best, but it makes up for everything with the food! It has been our favorite restaurant for two years and it's consitantly great. The make their sauces from fresh chilis and their meats are nothing but the best cuts. My favorite is the panang curry (red) with chicken, which is spicy with fresh vegetable and my wife loves the pad thai. Usually we share the two family style, as Thai dishes are intended. The mellower flavor of the pad thai balances out the spicyness of the curry dishes. We've also had several other dishes and have never been disappointed. A helpful hint is to get the Thai iced tea to help eleviate the spice! The food is wonderful place and we highly recommend it to all of our friends. Pros: Excellent food! Cons: ambience more

Fresh, delicious & extremely reasonable fare ! My family and I partake of the superb cusine frequently !!!! I am also a former wine & liquor broker for the state . 1/31/2009

I enjoy the great service, beautiful smies of the Thai staff & charming personalities plus the food is exceptional !!! Last night when I offered to take my son any where he desired for his birthday celebration he told me without hesitation. Let's go to Thai Garden. He loves the spicy flavors remembering Thai peoples fondly from his experiences in their exquisite land. The prices are moderate to reasonable especially for what is offered. After conversing with the owner we learned that only the freshest ingridents go into the various dishes including a secret pinch of Love for her honored customers to assist them in having a divine experience. We enjoy the Pad Thai noodles, #14, Thai tea hot or cold and always the coconut soup as well as coconut ice cream with fried bananas, yummy !!!! Try it you'll like it. Pros: Great fare, extreme kindness, not too large or noisy, condusive to conversations Cons: Nada even ample easy parking for free which beats the city proper. more

The worst ""Thai"" food I've ever been served 1/29/2009

I've travelled the world (including Thailand) and there is no way this is Thai food.\r They don't actually cook the meals fresh: instead they add sauce to the ingredients and put it on a plate. \r I hope there are better Thai restaurants in Salt Lake City. This is truly terrible. Pros: Food arrived quickly, service was good Cons: I could have cooked better at home with a jar of curry paste! more

Good food and service 8/16/2008

Thai Garden Restaurant has the best Thai food I've ever had the pleasure of tasting! I eat there often for lunch because their lunch specials are affordable and delicious, sometime you can add more rice by requested to a server. The atmosphere is very relaxing and staff is awesome. I have never had a bad experience of any kind here. more

Bland, dull and prepared without skill 7/11/2008

Bland, dull and prepared without skill is the best description of the food. The decor is nice, and yes, the owner does stop by the table, but that does not compensate for the extraordinary prices and unorganized service.\r \r Two entrees, one small appetizer and two glasses of tap water totaled $33.00 bucks.(before tip). Extremely overpriced for the quality and quantity of food received.\r \r Salt Lake offers many other small Thai restaurants that provide better value and service. Pros: Nice Dining room Cons: Poor Value more

Our Favorite! 6/19/2008

My wife and I really love Thai food and we've been to each of them in the Valley. All are GOOD~but Thai Garden is definitely our Favorite! Its a combination of every little thing that's just perfect. Very prompt staff with second to none service, every time we're there the owner, Vipada, always greets us and makes SURE everything's perfect! They've even surprised us with a free appetizer that we'd never tried! The quality of food there is only 1st rate, we've never had a bad meal there, not even one little part; and believe me we'll notice. The selection of food is simplified with a number next to everything, so if you don't know how to say things at first, like we didn't you can save yourself from trying to pronounce it. They are very accommodating to even the finickiest of dieters. As vegans, its one place we can really relax and know there's no hidden meat or dairy that we don't order. There are plenty of carnivorous options for those that do eat here as well though. Even their desserts are amazingly flavorful and colorfully displayed. The walls have splendid decor and there's a nice aquarium pillaring the center of the dining area which is a nice ambiance for everyone. Don't let the convenient location fool ya (just on the East side of Smith's @ 45th and 9th E) this is dining at its best. It suits whatever mood you're in from dressing up and dining fine, to getting a quick casual bite that everyone will love! You will find it so easy to come back, we'll even go out of our way, sometimes passing other Thai restaurants to go there to the perfect environment and food quality we really want. Enjoy & maybe we'll See ya There!\r ~Justin & Cassandra Pros: Price, Service, Decor, Quality, Convenient location more

Best Thai In Utah!!! 4/3/2008

I have no idea what the two reviews below this are talking about. I personally manage a restaurant that does over six million dollars in sales a year in the valley, but if I want a quiet place that serves amazing food Thai Garden is the place to be! Their staff is amazingly friendly and helpful, and the owner always visits every table to make sure that your meal was excellent. My personal favorite is #37 Gan* Ka Ree(the * is a g they don't allow that word on the site). It is a mild yellow curry dish that is to die for! My second favorite is the Pra Ram but you have to like peanut sauce...I do suggest for desert the fresh mangos with sweet sticky rice, but come in early because they will not serve it unless the mango is perfectly ripened. That is the same way with every dish there, if it is not at perfection that night they will not serve it. That says something to me. Also, they are very personal. If you go more than once, they are sure to remember you. You don't find that much around here anymore. I promise you that if you try it once, you will become addicted to it! Pros: Very attentive service, and food is amazing! Cons: Sometimes they are out of Mango for the best dessert on the menu! more

Not fresh, not good! 12/6/2007

Having just moved here from the SF Bay area, and having tried this restaurant several times (it is near my house) - all I can say is people who think this place is good, haven't had good Thai food. On several occasions, in several dishes, I have caught ""off"", not fresh, not good (moldy) flavors in the vegetables and seafood. They manage to cover the lack of freshness with heat and a lot of salt. The dishes are often totally over-cooked, contain low-quality ingredients and are simply not interesting or very good. Almost anything can appeal to the palate if it has enough fat and salt - it doesn't make it good food! This is the first restaurant review I've ever given - I just couldn't hold back any longer. Pros: Convenient mid-valley location Cons: Bad food more

They use Instant Ramen Noodles.... 11/10/2007

We went there on a Saturday afternoon. The location was pretty depressing but we were hoping for good food after having read the reviews here. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Specifically, one of the items we ordered, No:14, vegetarian noodles of some sort was made with cheap instant ramen noodles!! even after being charged almost $9 for the item. Other items that we ordered like fried rice and some appetizers were alright but the appetizer(curry puff) was a little over priced at close to $7.\r \r All in all, we thought other Thai places like Sawadee etc. would definitely rank higher in all departments. We are not going back. more

Great Pad Thai 11/2/2007

The food here is great! I get takeout from Thai Garden frequently, and the staff is always friendly and helpful when trying to decide. The Pad Thai is excellent, and Cashew Chicken wonderful. I'd reccomend Thai Garden to just about anybody. Pros: Great food, fast service Cons: A little expensive more

Best Tom Yum Soup 7/19/2007

Friends and I like to go to this place, not only because it's got great food but also great location. It's easier to find parking spots here than some other Thai restaurants downtown. Tom Yum Soup is my favorite. The seafood is fresh. The pork stirfry with garlic is heavenly. You really can't find anything bad here. Like most Asian restaurants in town, the food can be a little Americanized. If you tell the server that you'd like your food more authentic, it's the best Thai food you'll have in Salt Lake City. Pros: Food, Service, Price, Parking more

The Greatest Dining Experience 2/21/2007

My (now) fiance and I have been dining at this restaurant for over two years - and everytime we go it is always better than the last time we've been. The restaurant owner always greets us by name (yes she remembers her customers!) and that is just too cool. The owner (her name pronounced ""wee-pa"") is from Thailand and every dish on the menu is authentic, traditional cuisine - not americanized. This is overall the best Thai food I have ever had in my life! Pros: Everything!!!!! more

Thai One On! 1/5/2007

Alright, I confess. I first went into this place on a lark, passing it while coming home from work because I'm too damn lazy to cook for our household. So I walk in this place and, lo and behold, I'm not given the bums rush treatment in getting a to go order. The nice woman at the counter was very helpful in recommendations, and asked me to have a seat while it took a grand total of about ten minutes for the somewhat large order. Fast. While I waited, I got to watch some Thai TV on a big monitor by the cash register. Oh yes, I got to commune with the big ol' fish in the central tank too. By the way, please enlarge that thing a bit...the largest fish doesn't even look like it can turn around! Anyway, I get my order in record time, didn't break my bank, and when we got into eating at home, it was AMAZING. The Tom Kha ( a favorite of ours) is simply the best in town. Later in the month, we decided to eat on premises, and weren't disappointed. I dont care if the place is located in a strip mall. The food was superb as usual, and the owner came out to our table a few times just to check on us. Now seriously, where do you get that kind of food and service in the valley? So get down there right away, before the place becomes a cult favorite and you aren't even able to get a table. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience (gee isn't that everything that counts?) Cons: Bigger tank, or smaller fish PLEASE! (It's cruel) more

Best Thai in Salt Lake 12/22/2006

I've been to most of the Thai restaurants in the Salt Lake Valley, and this is my absolute favorite. The food is consistently full of wonderful Thai flavors, extremely fresh, and always delicious. I go to Thai Garden at least once every two to three weeks, and the service is always pleasant, and I leave feeling completely satisfied. The Massaman Curry will fill your mouth with spicy excitement, and they also serve the best Pad Thai in Salt Lake. The atmosphere is consistently clean, and the decor is inviting. Once inside, you'll forget you're in a strip mall. more

My favorite Thai place 4/12/2006

So this is my favorite Thai place in Utah. I really like the atmosphere and the staff is always nice. I really like the Thai spicy tofu and the #28. I recommend starting with either the fresh spring rolls or the calamari. The prices are reasonable; however, with an appetizer and dessert, it gets to be around $40 for 2 people. Pros: Food, Good Service, Good variety more
