Editorial review from Citysearch 10/1/2012

This book store is not what it used to be, when it was located in Worcester. I remember going to the Worcester location and instantly feeling a welcoming and friendly feeling. Their New Age section was HUGE and carried a Gay/Lesbian section. Now their New Age section is very, very small and they do not carry Gay/Lesbian books, magazines or the Bay Windows newspaper. I am very disappointed and probably will not shop there again. Not to mention how unfriendly and rude the staff are! I got dirty looks from the cashier coming into the store and she didn't talk to me as I was cashing out. I MISS BORDERS!!! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/27/2012

WOW! I am NEVER EVER going to TATNUCK in Westborough,MA again! My friend, her 6yr old daughter & 15mths old son and Anais 17mths old and I were in the children section where the kids were quietly looking at a couple of books and holding on some plush toys for about 10mins when suddenly an employee (Nicole: manager &gift buyer) rudely addressed us saying this was not a playground and other quite rude things. Even after discussing with her manager, she shooed us out and told us to never come back to the store! WOW! For sure, we're never going back! And I'm making sure locals know..don't patron this bookstore. We stood outside not believing we had been kicked out and that someone so rude works there! more

Great Place to Shop 12/16/2011

I am new to the area and had heard through a co-worker that Tatnuck was a great place to shop. I finally made it in and they have so many great items in addition to books. I also had a great lunch in their Cafe and enjoyed a good magazine. I am doing all my Christmas shopping there! Loved it! I wish there were more stores like these around. more

Very Happy Mom 12/14/2011

I am a mom of two and a frequent shopper of Tatnuck. I have had nothing but wonderful service in both the children's section and the gifts. I have brought my children with me on several occasions and have never had a problem. I don't blame the manager for speaking to unattended or misbehaved children. It is a retail business in which things are for sale, not a playground or a public park. I always have my children's hands, and if they are not with me they are playing in the play area designated for children. If you can't watch your kids properly than maybe you should stay home. more

Never, never shop at Tatnuck 10/23/2011

I went there yesterday and was immediately accosted by the manager, Nicole, who said I had been there the previous weekend and had left books out. She proceeded to publicly state (I was next to the busy cafe) that it was not their job to pick up after me and I was only allowed to read one book at a time. I had been away the previous two weekends and never remembered leaving anything out. In fact when I go there I make sure I make a hefty purchase since I believe in supporting local business. I think this woman should be in a mental health facility instead of running a store. Oh how I miss you Borders. more

The Manager is SO RUDE! will not go there any more 9/2/2011

Love the store, but the girl who works there (wearing short hair, short tight skirts/dresses) is so EXTREMELY RUDE, that myself and other moms of school/preschool aged kids just stopped going there. She claimes to be a floor manager, have no idea why owner would keep her there. She should not work with people at all. Its not a museum, where you cannot touch anything, it's a store! more

Not child friendly 8/27/2011

I am surprised to see that more people have had the same experience as me -- this is not a child friendly place, so sadly I am taking it off the list of places to go with my family. One of the employees treated us very rudely and unprofessionally today, in a manner that cannot be tolerated. It used to be a favorite place for us, as we all love books, but the way they treat children and families with children is unacceptable. more

Great Gift Store 6/7/2010

I live in Westborough and I love this store! I shop at Tatnuck every time I need to buy a gift for any of my family members and have never had a problem finding something great. The staff are very friendly and they are there when you need them but you don't feel pressured or like they're watching over you constantly. Anytime I needed the ""female perspective"" on a purchase they were more than willing to help and would even walk me right to what I was looking for. I never had them point me in the general direction only to wander around aimlessly, and trust me, the store is HUGE. They also have a very good selection of cards and books and since I'm not a fan of the big chain bookstores Tatnuck is a breath of fresh air. It's quiet and the store is very clean and you can tell that the owners take pride in their business. When the cashier rang me up she offered me a complimentary gift bag, which was great because it saved me another stop. I would highly recommend this store to anyone! Pros: Wide Selection of Gifts, Helpful Staff, Reasonable Prices. Cons: There aren't more stores like this one! more

Rude to kids and useless Interior Design section 11/16/2009

I was sitting in the children's section while my kids were playing and the lady (who later called herself the manager) said they were not allowed to play with the animals etc (I had 3 books in my hand I was about to buy at the time) the children were clean and playing nicely. My child sliced his finger open on the metal shelf in the children's section: it was NOT a little slice, blood was everywhere, they didn't apologize and I had to ask them to find a bandaid. She later came up and asked them again to stop playing with something metal that she called ""breakable"" it was not. do not give them your business. Pros: Some cute scarves and bags Cons: very VERY rude to my kids TINY interior section. more

Best Bookstore in New England 7/31/2009

I go to this place all the time, unlike what patriciaagnes said, the staff has never been rude to me and yes i do see kids breaking things and the parents walking away which is horrible and i think the staff should be rude to these types of people. I always find the book I want unless a lot of people want it like a book on the summer reading list or a new book in a wonderful series. So if you need to buy a book go to Tatnuk. more

Unhappy about people responses 1/14/2009

I frequent tatnuck bookstore quite frequently and fined it very nice! This is directed more towards Patriciaagnes complaint about it not being child friendly. I've been there in the childrens section to purchase books for family members and their have been plenty of well behaved children asking mom to get books down for them, there has also been the occasion when I myself as a customer have rolled my eyes at the behavior of some children and the parents lack of control of them. If your children cannot refrain from tearing the place apart than maybe you need to review public etiquette with them and your view of what is appropriate. behavior. As for the sign I totally agree I have also witnessed things being broken and parents walking away without paying as if they are entited. Pros: Great assortment of all types of books without high pressure salespeople. Cons: People that have no respect for things that don't belong to them. more

DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS 5/16/2008

I went here as it was recently voted the best bookstore in Worcester County. I will say the non-kid sections seemed very attractive and quiet and the man at the cafe and the cashier were super nice. BUT on the whole the staff people were openly disgusted by my kids even though I cleaned up what they took down and did not let them look at anything other than the cheapest plainest board books (I know its a store not a library but I do like the kids to look at a book before I buy it to see how much it interests them - in the end I gave up on buying any books because I was so stressed out by the staff!!). One youngish woman sighed and rolled her eyes at me when the kids picked up a toy and another staff member refused to speak to or even smile at my 3 year old son when my son approached him. I don't even feel bad about writing this review as they are so open that they dont want you to bring your kids - there is a nasty sign up stating that you will have to pay for anything your child breaks, which is understandable but I have seen much more appropriate ways to express that point in other stores - I am sure their kids' section has been used and abused but their reaction has brought them to the point of bad customer service. Also, on a practical note,a large sea of fragile collectibles lies between the front door and the children's section or the Cafe so it is hard to manage with kids. I am pretty sure I will not be back with or without the kids. more
