Fantastic Veterinary Care 4/10/2012

I started taking my thirteen-year-old cat, Phoenix, to Sylvania Vet in 2003. Dr. Bob Esplin performed a thyroidectomy on Phoenix. Dr. Bob also treated Phoenix for hypertension and hyperthyroidism for SIX additional years. Phoenix developed lymphoma in 2009, right before he turned 19 years old. I elected to treat his cancer, and he experienced such WONDERFUL care during his months of chemotherapy at Sylvania Vet. His tumor was reduced but regretfully, he succumbed to kidney failure in January 2010.\r \r Dr. Bob also gave my younger cat, Labatts, a second chance at life in 2008 by properly diagnosing his IBD and referring him to a veterinary cardiologist to diagnose his hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Sadly, he only lived to be 12 years of age but he received such fantastic care at Sylvania Vet throughout his last year of life. He spent his last day at Sylvania Vet and they kept him so comfortable and pain free. I spent time with him there and he died in my arms in December 2009. I r more

Great Vet with 24 hr emergency service 2/4/2012

I recently changed to Sylvania Vet because I always ended up there after my previous regular vet had closed. The emergency service is great and much better than the other one in the area. The vets are all very friendly, experienced and helpful. If you have an emergency this is definitely the place to go. Pros: null Cons: null more

SYLVANIA VETERINARY HOSPITAL A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE!!! 1/31/2012

Took our dog to the Sylvania Veterinary Hospital just once, but never again!!!!I From the moment we walked in there, the staff was rude, they ignored our dog like it wasn't even there, then ran extensive tests to gin up the bill. Dr. Bob Esplin, who I used to see on Channel 13's "Ask the Expert," was very cold and rude. He bad mouthed our regular vet, which made me very uncomfortable. From that point on, things just kept getting worse at Sylvania Veterinary Hospital. We couldn't get our dog out of there fast enough! Everything at this place is about money and business. We would NEVER take any of our pets there again!!!!!! Pros: null Cons: null more

Amazing Staff! Amazing Care! 11/13/2011

Being a first time dog owner I didn't know where to take my dog. On the advice of several friends, I called Sylvania Veterinary Hospital. The receptionist was very helpful and suggested I come in for a tour. Everyone was so welcoming and the amount of time that they spent with me seemed extraordinary. Pros: null Cons: null more

abusive 11/3/2011

While I was there One of the Doctors grabbed my dog in a way that made him cry out in pain. He then Shook him and told him to be quite. I took him off the table and left without another word. I couldnt believe this guy has a medical degree. more

terrible Experince 11/2/2011

This place Was absolutly run like a Bussiness. From the moment We walked in the door They were selling us a line of crap. From the moment we brought buckeye there it was a nightmare. They spoke badly about other veterinarians in town very unprofessional!! Then When we left him there because he needed 24 hour care They ran tests on him that Ran our bill up. They Didnt communicate with us and explain anything and When We had our regular vet try to help us out Sylvania Would not give them the records. Finally they made us pick up a copy of the records and charged us a Paperwork fee and When We diagreed with the total on the bill being it was way over the estimate provided They threatened to take us to collections.... After Speaking with a cooworker they were telling me about a couple of Good Vets they saw there in the past but said that most of them Ran like the wind. Apparently they have had more than 15 vets there in the Last 5 to 7 years? That is pretty crazy if they cant evven keep a good Doctor in there. Pros: null Cons: null more

Sylvania Veterinary Hospital 10/13/2011

Run like a business, without the best interest of the animal in mind. more

Worst experience ever! 6/10/2011

I will never again take another animal to Sylvania Vet. I had 2 dogs that I took there for about a year. A few of the veterinarians there were very nice and if they didn't work at Sylvania Vet, I would still go to them. There was one female veterinarian there that was so snotty and she acted like she didn't even like animals. She was not very good with my dogs. Dr. Bob, as everyone calls him, was pretty rude and did not do very well with my dogs either. Both of these people grabbed my dogs by their necks and shook them. Since the incident with "Dr. Bob" we have never been back. more

Never again! This is borderline abuse!!!!! 6/5/2011

I will never take another animal to Sylvania vet again! I took both of my dogs there when they were puppies. The first veterinarian I saw acted like she didn't even want to touch the dogs. She tried clipping their nails and when one of them wasn't holding still for her, she slammed her clippers down on the counter, grabbed my dog by his collar/neck and shook him! I knew that wasn't right, but I was shocked and didn't know what to say. more

RE:Annual Vaccines??? 1/28/2011

If your cat is getting annual vaccines then your cat is being over vaccinated. You really need to do your homework regarding this important issue, for your pets sake. The vet will deny this is dangerous for your pet, but it is YOUR responsibility to be informed concerning the medical procedures YOUR pet receives. A good place to start is with Dr. Schultz and Dr. J. Dodds, you can't get any better than them. more

Great Veterinary Care in Toledo 11/30/2010

I recently took my cat to Sylvania Vet for his yearly vaccines, and was very impressed with their professionalism, compassion, and caring that all members of the staff treated me with. A co-worker recommended them to me (which got me $40 off my first visit - ask about their referral program!) and I'm glad I took her advice. I am picky about where I take my animals, so I called around to different clinics before deciding on this one. What got my attention right away was that there is a separate entrance/waiting area/exam rooms for cats and dogs. I do feel this helped keep Callie a little more relaxed to not have to be next to dogs - she hates them! I saw Dr. Natalie, and she was great with my Callie. The price is a little higher than average I would guess, but I was very impressed, and do believe you get what you pay for. I especially like that they are available 24/7, so if I have an emergency, I know where to call. You should try them, I'm glad I did. more

Disappointed 10/4/2010

Yesterday I took my pet into Sylvania Veterinary Hospital because she was unable to keep food/water down. She had vomited more than six times in less than 24 hours and is a small dog, so she can become dehydrated quickly. The veterinarian took her temperature and pushed on her stomach. Since there was no cramping or tightness, they sent me home with some medicine for her and some food. If she got sick again, I was to bring her back the next day for an x-ray. No actual tests were performed while I was there.\r \r This morning, the dog had vomited three more times and had bowel problems three times. I decided to take her to another veterinarian at a different location since I didn't feel that she was looked at closely enough. Within five minutes, they were able to determine that my dog had a severe bowel infection and within 15 minutes determined her liver count was extremely high. She was also extremely dehydrated. Obviously, she was not "okay" and needed fluids, two shots, monit more

A horrible experience!!! 12/23/2006

I regret the day I took my 12-year-old dog to Sylvania Veterinary Hospital as a new patient last year. An awful experience!!! They injected her with a drug they knew should have been avoided because it had caused her to have a seizure when it was last given to her. They also gave her a drug that is contraindicated in dogs with liver disease, which my dog had. She developed heavy breathing problems as a result. The hospital also promises a vet on call for emergencies. But when my dog eventually stopped breathing at the hospital during the night, the vet on call did not go to her aid. I wish I had never taken my dog to this place. She was a lovely girl and deserved better - just a great dog! As Danielle A. said in her review below, if you love your pet, go somewhere else!!! more

Thank you 4/14/2006

I just want to take a moment and thank Dr. Bob and his staff for saving my cat. When Missy was a kitten she got very ill, I took her to my Vet of 20yrs and he recommended putting her down. I refused and after two similar second opinions I found Sylvania Veterinary Hospital. Their staff treated Missy with the loving care as if she was their own. And two months later my Kitten is happy and healthy. I have found a Vet for life. Thank you PROS: Care CONS: None more

Outstanding!! 4/14/2006

What more can I say... My parents have been taking there two dogs and one cat for over 30 years... and my wife and I just got a new puppy about 8 months ago and the service, the level of care is Amazing... Dr. Bob (Dr. Robert Esplin) is by far one of the most careing and out going Vets in the area... I would recomend this Hospital to anyone who loves their pet... Plus I take my boxer to day care a couple times a week and I have to fight with my dog when it's time to leave, because she's having so much fun... Outstanding!!! PROS: The Level of care CONS: I wish I lived closer, I live over thirty minutes away! more

Horrible! 4/7/2005

I would DEFINATELY NOT recommend this place! I took my dog there and after a few days, they said nothing was wrong. They even forgot to give us our medication for a "minor" problem. The next day, he died. Do not go there if you love your pet. more
