BAD SERVICE 10/22/2010

I agree with alot of the comments on this page. The management staff have a big problem with name calling and labeling. I sat at the bar the other day with a co worker although we were not together and placed separate orders they were trying to force me into paying for his expensive suishi roll to get mine for free. I understand the concept of buy one get one at lesser or equal value free, but i am not responsible for the entire restaurant's expensive rolls, only the ones i order, especially if i am seated alone at the bar. I didn't expect anything for free, I simply wanted to pay for my meal and not everyone elses, when asked to speak to the manager i was told that he was the manager and he had seen me coming and thought that i would raise a stink about their policies!!!!! He labeled me before i even sat down to eat!!!! I was highly insulted. i will never eat there again, even though the suishi was good and the suishi chef ran to my defense. He by the way was the only employee getting a tip out of me. I can't believe they are still doing business. After reading all the comments it sounds like they make a habit out of calling names and labeling. Sorry for your poor experiences, but you have to live and learn. I did. more

Truly Horrible 3/25/2010

Before you go to this place, read the RECENT reviews. It's hard to figure out how a restaurant can screw everything up this badly. Makes you wonder if the entire staff is shooting up together in the kitchen. The Thai food is simply horrible. Although the Sushi was edible, it was not great, and many others have complained about the quality of the fish, and noted the conditions it was kept in when they got a 77.5 sanitation grade. Cons: Wow, just wow more

Buy one get one free--SWEET!! 2/25/2010

I've been going to Sushi Thai for a few years for their $1 sushi and spicy basil. I went a few days ago and found out that they had totally changed their sushi menu and prices, no more dollar sushi or 2 dollar rolls. At first I was really upset, but then our waitress recommended we stick mostly to the bigger rolls since it's buy on get one free---and it was awesome!. We only got 6 rolls, but there was soo much food i had to take some home--and my friend and I only paid $15 each. The sushi there was always tasty, but now it's even better, especially the salmon. I miss the tempura by the piece, but all the new specialty rolls totally made up for it. Pros: Buy one get one free rolls Cons: Service a little slow more

Prices are Horrible!!! 2/23/2010

I have been going to Sushi Thai for the past 2 and a half years and i have always loved the place. I would always go at night when they had $1 sushi! You couldn't beat it! I would go there a couple of times a month. Well I moved but I finally had a chance to order it again and when I called in I was shocked to find out their new prices. I was informed they no longer have $1 sushi and that it is $6 for 2 pieces. He was happy to inform me that they now take 10% off, so instead of paying $6 I would now pay $5.40. I realize that sushi is not usually a cheap meal, but going from $1 a piece to $3 a piece is horrible. I can safely say I will be looking for a new place to purchase my sushi. If anyone has any suggestions of a new place please let me know! Pros: good sushi Cons: WAY TO HIGH PRICES!! more

Used to be my favorite now THEY SUCK 2/5/2010

I used to go here regularly because they had really good steak and great sushi with a price you couldn't beat. $2 for 6 roles was fantastic. Now they have waiters who have no idea what they are doing or talking about. It is also now buy one get one free. What they don't tell you is it's buy one get one free per TABLE not per PERSON! Was made to believe it was per person and when My friend and I confronted the manager about my outrageous bill($66 for 2 people) she got an attitude with us! Like we were supposed to know how this works. We were not the only people confused either. I looked around and everyone I saw getting sushi had a wtf are you talking about look on their faces and asking the waiter to explain. I am very disappointed it turned into this uptight, over priced screw you over any way we can restaurant. I will never go back! Pros: Nothing anymore Cons: They are screwing you over. more

They are working hard to lose business!!!!! 10/9/2009

My husband and I tried to go to Sushi Thai last night, against our better judgment. This place has always been sub-par, compared to Thai restaurants in DC, but proximity to our house was always a plus. Last night, we walked in at 6:30, in hopes of getting something better than Subway or Chubby's. The restaurant was only half full. We thought, ""Great, we'll get in and out pretty quickly!"".... but we were put on a waiting list! I asked why there was a wait when there were so many empty tables, and she said, ""They are all four-person tables, and there are only two of you."". I was flabbergasted! I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking that she would quickly realize how poor she was at probabilities, but we ultimately left and went to Chubby's (as did the other two-person party waiting for a table). What is WRONG with these people? I am sure the owners are completely unaware that they lost four customers that they could have seated, if they had not been holding out for more people for the four-top tables. As we walked past the restaurant after our Mexican meal, it was slightly more full, but there were plenty of empty four tops, waiting for customers. Sushi Thai, you stink. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Too many to count more

This Place Gone Downhill 9/7/2009

I took one of my friends from out of town to sushi, initially I wanted to take him to Waraji but they are closed so against my better judgment I took him to Sushi Thai on Wycliff Rd. One, when we walked in no one greeted us not even a smile. Secondly, the waitress didn't speak English very well and when I went to order some sashimi she didn't tell me it was 3 dollars/piece (a la cart said $2 sushi), if I had known I wouldn't have ordered such pricey sushi so lastly I wanted to talked to the manager and she had an even worse time speaking English and she basically says that I was lying and I knew that sashimi cost 3 dollars/piece b/c ""our menu hasn't changed in the past 3 years"" !! Huh?? I'm supposed to remember how much everything cost since 3 years ago...there's a reason why I haven't been back in 3 years NOW I remember...the people there SUCKKKK! Pros: nice decor Cons: worst management ever more

Cheap for Dinner!! 5/10/2008

My boyfriend and I had our first dinner here together four years ago. The service is great, the sushi fresh, and best of all, sashimi pieces are $1 and small rolls are $2 (dinner prices.) The lunch prices are more expensive. If you go, sit at the bar! It's quite comfortable. more

avoid it! food comes from China...I mean Sam's Club! 4/3/2008

Sushi Thai used to be my favorite neighborhood place to eat. The food has gone downhill badly, as well as the customer service. The 89 rating is scary especially in a sushi restaurant! Our situation we ordered over $70. in take outs, based on it was a great place to eat not too long ago. Problem: When we got home with our food, we were missing a child's dinner. When I went back there after dinner to point it out and expected to get a refund, I was called a liar. I realized at that moment I had a better chance of selling water at Niagara Falls than to get my money back. She said they remembered ""putting it in the bag"". The whole time I'm thinking we had to split up our dinners so we could all eat is all I know. When I returned and confronted the hostess over my child's missing dinner I was polite with her not expecting any problems over something so trivial. She when told me ""ahhh nooooo weeeee put in bag"". I asked her if it was worth losing a customer over the $8.00 dinner. , She replied ""there was nothing she could do"".... How about a refund...at least give me some free chopsticks or fortune cookies, if not my money! That way I'd feel like I had at least been kissed before I got screwed! Knowing my luck the cookies would have said ""Confucius say count your rice grains before leaving restaurant "" Who's the manager anyway? It seems the owners would wake up and fire this guy if they want to stay open! A public relations course would go a long way for these people. Long story short, the food taste like it came frozen from Sam's club. It has gone downhill in the past year badly. The tempura shrimp use to melt in your mouth. It now tastes like it's been in a freezer for a year (unwrapped) and then reheated in a microwave. The management made a poor decision on this situation, enough for me to come home and write this review. We'll never go back folks. Too many other honorable restaurants around than to take a chance on this dive. PS: What ever happen to customer comes first? Sorry...that was in America I guess. I advise to stay away! I hope this is good advise for anyone, and hopefully helpful in making a decision on where to spend your hard earned money! Pros: Good Location Cons: Bad customer service and quality of food has gone downhill more

Never AGAIN 4/2/2008

We've eaten here before but a long time ago and it was good, however the last time I went to order take out and the service was horrible horrible!! And you ask how is that possible for take out? I ordered at 7:30 pm, and they told me 20-30 minutes, I got there at 8:00pm they repeated my order took my payment and then said that it would still be another 15 minutes. When I went back up at 8:10 after 3 other people picked up their take out orders and asked about the status of my order, they asked what I had I said ""sushi"" the hostess said it takes 20 minutes and then said if want quick sushi I can go to Food Lion next door. When I said I'd called in the order and showed her the receipt of my payment she spoke with someone in Japanese for 10 minutes and apologized then said it should be out soon. I said it's been 45 minutes since I called and they said okay they'd go see and then came back to say a few more minutes. 10 minutes later the food was ready (after I said I no longer wanted it) and when I got the order home less than 5 minutes away) our appetizer (Chicken Satay) was cold and they missed one order of our sushi. I was so disappointed by their lack of customer service and I'm pretty sure they forgot to put my order in until I got there. Next time I'll drive further and go to Thai Sushi in Cary. Food & Service are much better there. Cons: HORRIBLE Service, Food was cold and it took them 1 hour to have my take out order ready more

Why is Sushi Thai going so downhill??? 1/13/2008

Perhaps they have changed management or just gotten lazy...but Sushi Thai used to be one of my favorite places to go. We used to always have large parties of 8 or more go there around 9pm on Wednesday nights. However, my last experience was a nightmare. Pros: They have good, cheap sushi Cons: HORRIBLE service and bad sanitation grade! more

What happened to Sushi-Thai? 11/12/2007

Man, oh man... I used to love me some Sushi Thai... I mean, the food was decent, and on dollar sushi night, it was cheap as can be. They have these really cool intricately carved tables, and the ambience is always decent, even if the waitstaff seems a bit frazzled and over-worked. I am really sad to see that they have gotten HORRIBLE sanitation grades lately (an 82 on Halloween, and an 88 two weeks prior). As much as I like a restaurant, I won't eat there if it's gross. They had insects, both living and dead, and raw fish touching sprouts, carrots, and sauces that were supposedly ""ready to eat."" If they can get their act together and score above a ""95"" I will go back. Until, I will be staying far, far away. :( Pros: cheap sushi at dinner time Cons: bad sanitation ratings more

Sushi-Thai is going down hill quick 10/12/2007

I love Thai food. I grew up with Thai food. I've even been to Thailand to enjoy the food and culture. Pros: Decor and atmosphere are nice. Cons: Food quality and flavor have fallen off, services is poor to unacceptable. more

Cheap Sushi, Yummy Pad Thai, Quick and Easy....had a dip in service....back up to speed. 9/28/2007

Original Review September 2007: I noticed there were a lot of mixed reviews, so figured I would give my very blunt angle of Sushi Thai on Wycliff Rd. Sometimes I just REALLY need sushi. I have that sushi craving/hunger pang, and I just have to have it! Sushi Thai hits the spot and you won't go broke eating your fair share of sushi. $1 nigiri, $2 rolls, $2 appetizers. The quality isn't as good as Waraji or Shaba Shabu, but for the price, the quality is pretty darned good! If I made ghastly amounts of money, I'd go to Waraji for sushi every time. But for the moderate income folk, sushi thai is fine and dandy! The Chicken Pad Thai extra hot...YUM! UPDATE: December 17th, 2007: their rating has gone down, way down all the way to 80 and back up to 91. We had a quick bite of sushi the other night. It wasn't very fresh or very good. Today I ordered my usual Pad Thai extra hot for lunch. They used excessive amounts of fish oil, so it tasted fishy. There was no lime on top to get that citrus kick into the flavors, and I didn't get any chopsticks, so had to come back to work and eat with a plastic fork. Sushi Thai used to be alright, but it's gone downhill and continues to go further down each time I go. It's just not fresh. The Harris Teether servings are tastier and about the same price. Save your money and time. UPDATE: October 21st, 2008: We decided to give Sushi Thai another chance, as their health rating had gone back up. The sushi was fresh. The service was back up to par. The restaurant was PACKED! I think they just had a bad run for a while there, but they seem to have gotten their stuff back together. Defintiely give them a try again! Pros: Great prices, friendly staff, hits the sushi spot Cons: Not the freshest sushi, but definitely the cheapest! more

not a good place to eat! 9/5/2007

Let me try to start with the better things about this restaurant. The decor is nice--scaled down from its Cary sister-establishment but still traditional-Asian style. The prettiest thing was the tables which are all carved wood with glass over the top. Absolutely beautiful. That's all that is good about this place. There are no booths, only tables and the chairs are pretty hard. I went there for lunch and the food was, hands-down, the worst sushi I have ever eaten. We ordered 4 rolls--crunch, dragon, Neptune, and spider. The first three were so-so--not really awful but not enough to go there again. The spider roll was terrible. I have been eating sushi for a long time and have never put something in my mouth that turned my stomach and made me want to be ill. For one thing, the texture was all wrong--mushy, maybe not even fried--nothing like the tempura flakiness that soft-shelled crab should be. Even that could be forgivable, though. However, the taste of the crab was like that of a sea-creature washed ashore and lying in the sun for a few days. Sicky-sweet, a taste that lingered, pervading your nostrils and staying, despite being chased with ginger and coke. We did NOT finish this roll for fear of food sick-ness. The sanitation grade is currently 96.5 but just a little while ago it was 77.5 with many citations, including one for having fish that was not labeled as being parasite-free sushi-grade. Of course, we didn't know this prior to going to the restaurant. The waiter was somewhat attentive but disappeared at the end of the meal and never came back to get the payment. We paid at the front and left. I would NOT recommend this place for anyone. However, the Cary location is night and day different from this one and is HIGHLY recommended!! Pros: tables are pretty Cons: food BAD service BAD more

Sushi Thai Is The Best Sushi Is Town!!! 8/15/2007

I eat here all the time. The tuna and avocado salad is absolutely amazing. The Ika Sansai is the best in town. The staff is great and you cannot beat the prices. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Sushi is great, Prices are dirt cheap for dinner, Staff is amazing Cons: They aren't open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday... ;) more

Great Curry 5/11/2007

I'm not a sushi eater so I can't comment on the sushi here, but I can say the Thai is the best I've tried in the area so far. I learned to appreciate Thai when I lived in NYC, and was very grateful to find this restaurant that served Thai that was on par with what we could get in NY. I love their Masaman curry, it has that great earthy flavor and balance of heat offset by the creaminess of the coconut milk. I was highly disappointed to find out that earlier this year they got a very poor health inspection which I was able to view on the Dept of Health's website. It really put me off this restaurant and made me sick to think I had been eating at a place that had an insect problem. A few months later I noticed their rating had improved drastically, no mention of critters this time, so I worked up the courage to try it again. The curry was still excellent. I hope that the management will pay close attention to their sanitation this time and keep this place going strong. Pros: great Thai, great curry dishes, you can specify a heat level Cons: not a large place so it can get noisy when crowded, recent sanitation rating more

Eh. You could do better. 4/8/2007

Sushi here is always ridiculosly sweet to me. The tempura is so-so. Not light and delicious..but kind of, well. Sweet. I find everything here overly so. Too much eel sauce, and the dynamite roll was not what I was expecting. Lovely atmosphere though and nice enough wait staff. You probably don't have to bother ordering desert because everything tastes like it anyway. Pros: ornate carved tables Cons: sweet sushi. what the heck? more

Sashimi Grade? YEAH RIGHT. 3/12/2007

I am a sushi fanatic and I know when fish is bad. I ordered ama ebi (sweet shrimp) and I proceeded to eat the fried head. Then I ate the salmon and toro and they were ok. I also ordered two spicy tuna hand rolls and the second I brought it up to my face, it smelled of dead fish. If you've ever been to a fish market, you know the kind of slimy smell I am talking about it. Then I noticed the other half of my ama ebi, the raw tail, and it was YELLOW. I did not complain to the waiter because he was quite nonchalant the whole time and I had already eaten more than half of my meal. I left a note on the table saying that their sushi was repulsive. Sushi Thai is lucky I didn't get food pois0ning! How else do they afford $1 sushi? In other words, you literally get what you pay for...BEWARE! Pros: None anymore Cons: Sushi more

CAUTION!!! posting says it all!! LIVE R0ACHES!!! 2/15/2007
