The best place I ate in. sit at the sushi bar

Worst

My wife and I recently started to try out other sushi places than our regular one (Kiriko, that is) and try to find a place we like as much. Tonight we were hesitating between suz...

""Today's Special: Trust Me."" 4/22/2003

Deliciously simple. That sums it up - no frills in the decor, and no frills in the chef's special. His judgment was great! This is totally a hole in the wall, but you will be glad that you found it. The fish is spectacular! Really NO ambience, but a great place if you are a serious sushi connoisseur with some good company to keep you entertained. Pros: fresh, great sushi, chef's special Cons: funky atmosphere more

Tried, trusted and true! 2/23/2003

This one is a winner! The ambiance: the place is a hole in the wall. Service: it's great, you don't have to make one decision. The value: excellent when someone else foots the bill! The food: raw is a turn on, the fresh picks make it the best pick, and the fishmelts in your mouth! Need I say more? Pros: no decision making Cons: who cares-great food! more

As fresh as it gets! 1/30/2003

Last night IO had the great opportunity to ""Trust Nobi"" (Owner). I consider myself an avid Sushi diner and have nothing but positive things to say about sasabune. The entire ""Trust Me"" selections were delicious. I added a few of you favorites and made it a party. If you truly love ""Sushi"" (no california roll here), you will love this place. Pros: Extremely Fresh Fish, Intimate Sushi Bar, Off the beaten path more

This place is unbelieveable. Yum! 11/7/2002

I've always gotten the omikase here and am never disappointed. Fresh fish and delightful seasonings/sauces at every turn -- but you've gotta trust the chef here and he knows what's best. The bill climbs high very very quickly, but if you do half portions, you get to try more different things (although only one piece of each item). I've had sushi/sashimi around the world and this place leaves them all behind. The ramshackle little house leaves a lot to be desired in terms of ambiance, but the food transport you outta there and into a utopia. more

Seriously people... 10/29/2002

this is the best fish I have ever eaten - ever. more

OH MY GAWD!!!!!!! 10/5/2002

It was the BEST sushi, by far, that I have ever eaten!!!! Having read the reviews here before going I was somewhat prepared - sit at the sushi bar, ""Trust Me"", no menu, no california roll - but not quite. When we entered the waitress said that if you sit at the sushi bar you can't order, the chef will give you what you should have!! Well, we were game - and boy are we glad we did!! Our meal started with an albacore appetizer, small pieces of albacore in a punzu sauce. It was far and away the best albacore I had ever had, succulent, and flavorful. And each piece after was better than the one before. The chef wasn't nearly as intimidating as I expected. And while it was expensive, it was worth every penny. We'll be back - and often. Pros: very fresh fish, excellent rice more

Boom! 8/11/2002

This place has the best fish in LA. period. The service is below average, the prices are somewhat steep, and the decor stinks. You know what? I don't care! The warm rice is so good that I can chill in a pillow of it and take a leisurely afternoon nap. The fish is flipping around on your plate -- the chef definitely has an eye for a good looking fish. Let's not go there. To be straight, this is a place where the abuse (decor, service, limitations, $) volume is at 8, the fish is at 10, and I would tell all of you to go there asap! Pros: fish, warm rice, confidence Cons: poor service, can be loud, ghetto decor more

Best Sushi in LA 8/5/2002

This is the best sushi restaurant in LA. Order the omakase (chef's choice) and you'll get some of the freshest fish ever. The fish and the warm rice simply melts in the mouth. The crab roll was amazing. Pros: Sushi more

Trust Me 6/10/2002

And thats what you should order if you want to get a great sampler and not offend the chef who's got you covered. ""Trust Me"" offers about 10 different plates (majority tuna) for $50/person. . I've only been once but will be back again to this no-frills sushi house that has a non-descript facade but plenty of fresh fish. If you get a ""beautiful"" crowd here its because they know good sushi, not because its a scene. more

Simply as good as it gets in Los Angeles 5/16/2002

This place rocks! Just belly-up to the bar and start eating. The freshest and best tasting sushi in Los Angeles - and I've had a lot of sushi in LA. Just don't screw-up and eat the wrong way or you'll get yelled at. Pros: Best in LA Cons: Pricey more
