We just rescued a 1 year old dog from the shelter. She was found as a stray and seemed to be coughing. Initially, we saw a different vet that was closer to home and he said our dog was fine but I still didn't think so. Two days later, I brought her to Dr. Fontenot who said she had an upper respiratory infection and put her on antibiotics for 2 weeks. Our new dog is doing very well now. Thank you Dr. Fontenot! more

Sophie's New Again 5/30/2014

A neighbor referred us to Dr. Fontenot because Sophie's limp wouldn't go away. Our previous vet just kept giving us pills which only helped for a little while. Dr. Fontenot gave Sophie the most thorough exam she's ever had. The x-rays showed a problem in her leg bone. The doctor said it was suspicous for cancer but could also be an infection. We agreed to a biopsy & tests which confirmed it was a infection not cancer. The doctor even had to send us to Walgreens for her drugs because the vet drugs wouldn't work. Dr. Fontenot saved Sophie's leg. My only complaint is that now, we can't keep up with her on her walks. more

We were visiting Melbourne from Pennsylvania and one morning our lab, Sunny, couldn't walk. We took him to Sunshine Vet Clinic and Dr. Fonteno found that all of his joints were swollen. Even though we leaving to go back home in 2-days, we went ahead with the blood tests & cultures. By the time we got home Dr. Fonteno had already contacted our Vet with the diagnosis of Lymes disease. Luckily we caught it early enough to prevent permanent damage. I wish I got this kind of attention when I'm sick! more

RE: Sarah T a DISGRUNTELED EX-EMPLOYEE\r Strange how I was good enough to trust with her dog’s life & perform surgery in Feb 2013 but 6-weeks later she files her negative review the day she’s fired! Fired for gross neglect that injured another employee! \r What to do when client surveys come back and the ONLY complaint is the same employee that they all list by name, SARAH. \r What to do when she outright lies about her negligence rather than own up to it & use it as a learning experience as we’ve done numerous times in the past. And when her dog needed another surgery 9-mo later, why contact me if I’m such a horrible person? Put all the facts together and most would agree just a DISGRUNTLED EX-EMPLOYEE. more

RE: Don B (not his real name)\r WOW, sounds like the only thing I did right was leave the room! Ask yourself; do you introduce yourself to a client who you’ve seen 7-times in the last 2 yrs or simply say Hi, how are your doing and greet them as an acquaintance? \r I guess one man’s knowledge & 20+ years experience is another man’s arrogance. What “Don” failed to mention was the Aug 16 phone call asking about cremation and how to PERFORM home euthanasia. That the last 2-yrs he’s been diagnosing the cat’s problems from the internet & “treating” him with metamucil. That the appointment THEY called to make was for euthanasia. That the cat was no longer producing urine. That the exam & history strongly suggested advanced kidney FAILURE and spending money on blood tests was merely academic at this point. How is it that he asked for blood tests “3-4 times” when he only spoke to the assistant & myself? Overall, if everything we do is so wrong, why would his wif more

Great Vet 11/13/2013

I'm not sure who the people below are talking about. Our experiences with Dr. Fontenot have been wonderful! In the spring, we took our 10 yr 12 lb. Jack/Chi mix in for an eye irritation. Dr. Fontenot was very pleasant, informative, and made sure I understood all the details to treat Rocco. A few weeks ago, I brought Rocco in to have his anal glands cleaned and there was blood in the sac. Dr. Fontenot examined Rocco (at no charge), found a small tumor, and recommended surgery to remove the anal gland. He called later with an estimate. I contacted another vet specialist/surgeon in the area and I pd $142 for a consultation with a small animal internal med doc. He also recommended surgery and my other questions needed to be directed to the surgeon. Their "high" estimate was three times what Dr. Fontenot quoted. I reconnected with Dr. Fontenot who spent 15 minutes on the phone with me, answered all my questions, and the surgery was scheduled. On the day of the surgery, I had a few more ques more

I'm not sure who the people below are talking about. Our experiences with Dr. Fontenot have been wonderful! In the spring, we took our 10 year 12 lb. Jack/Chiquaqua mix in for an eye irritation. Dr. Fontenot was very pleasant, informative, thorough, and made sure I understood all the details to treat Rocco. A few weeks ago, I brought Rocco in to have his anal glands cleaned and there was quite a bit of blood in the sac. Dr. Fontenot examined Rocco (at no charge), found a small tumor, and recommended surgery to remove the anal gland. He called later in the afternoon with an estimate. We contacted another vet specialist/surgeon in the area and I paid $142 for a consultation with a small animal internal medicine doctor. He told me that he also recommended surgery and my additional questions needed to be directed to the surgeon. Their ""high"" estimate was three times what Dr. Fontenot quoted. The other vet did laser surgery and the procedure was explained by their staff. I reconnected with Dr. Fontenot who spent 15 minutes on the phone with me, answered all my questions, and the surgery was scheduled. On the day of the surgery, I had a few more questions and Dr. Fontenot met with me before taking Rocco back. Unfortunately, the tumor had grown quite a bit, which involved additional time and surgical expense. Dr. Fontenot kept me informed throughout the day as to Rocco's progress. I went later in the afternoon to pick up Rocco and again, Dr. Fontenot spent time with me explaining after care and things I could do to help Rocco. I can't say enough wonderful things about this vet! His staff is very friendly, professional and caring. The tunor will be biopsied and if further treatment is needed, I won't hesitate to take Rocco back. more

Arrogant, Incompetent Vet 8/19/2013

After my horrible experience with this "vet," I find it necessary to write this review in hope that it may help someones pet and the pets caregiver from receiving the terrible service and diagnosis that we received from an incompetent vet, Kevin J Fontenot. When you go to any professional you have every right to believe that you are getting an objective and educated opinion. With regard to Kevin J Fontenot, this just isn't the case, as he is a very arrogant man who passes medical judgement without either using the information that you provide him regarding your pets medical condition, nor the facts at hand. We didn't realize this when we first started bringing our cat to Fontenot for routine care, believing, as most anyone in our position would, that they are receiving "professional" treatment and advice from a licensed DVM. In our case, we brought our 21 year old cat in for treatment, knowing full well that he was near death from chronic kidney disease. Being proactive, we had spok more

Save you're time and find a different veterinarian!!!! 3/4/2013

Worse Veterinarian I've ever seen- WAY overpriced. Had to bring my dog in for radiographs and he wanted over $200 for just 2 radiographs- not including exam or treatment for my pup. Also, he's quiet rude and he can't keep decent staff because he treats them so poorly. From a Medical Provider stand-point- Mr. Fontenot- You should seek some anger management counseling and should invest in some mentoring on how to treat your staff properly and how to run a successful hospital. more

Sally's Stones 2/15/2011

We brought our 11-yr old bichon, Sally, to Sunshine Clinic because she had blood in her urine. The doctor performed tests & x-rays and found she had both bladder & kidney stones and needed surgery. She's 11-years old, we really couldn't afford surgery, plus there's was no guarantee the stones wouldn't come back. So we asked what other options we had. Dr. Kevin worked with us to set up a plan to prevent new stones and monitor Sally for bladder infections. The blood in her urine is gone and she's playful again even though she still has the stones. This is time with Sally we might not otherwise have had if Dr. Kevin hadn't worked with us. more
