Excellent experience 4/22/2012

I had a great experience, Frank was professional and friendly. He made sure I was introduced to his sons working on the driveway and they were receptive to any requests/ concerns I may of had while working on the driveway. I contacted >10 companies to get a quote for the driveway work and Frank called me the same day and always returned my calls the same day. Frank showed up on time and was always present when work was being done and was always concerned whether I was happy with how things were going. Even my friends have stated how great things look and for the first time in 4 years since I moved into my home my front sidewalk is not full of water, Frank was able to direct all of the water when it rains off of my property and into the street. Great price and excellent service! I would highly recommend Frank. more

Stay away from Frank Summerill 11/7/2011

I too made the unfortunate error of signing up for Frank's services to get my driveway excavated and paved. He took a deposit of $2,900 back on April 14 2011 (cashed the check right away !!). It is now November 7th and he has left it half finished.. Excavated it (took another $1,800 on July 17th), applied stone/gravel and it is one excuse after the other. I made numerous calls and he always gave one excuse or the other - broken truck, involved in an accident, weather etc. We have been having such good weather the last 10 days and my driveway is such an eyesore and has been that way for four months now. He got to excacvating my driveaway 3 months after taking the initial deposit. Please, please don't get conned by Frank. Run away from him. He will give you a good estimate that will be very tempting...but I don't think he ever will complete the job or intends to complete the job. Even if he does I can't expect him to do a good job. He probably spends the deposit money quickly (he is bankrupt and probably broke) and will wait for the next sucker to con and maybe use that money to do a little bit of the work. Probably like a nice Ponzi scheme. I am in touch with the PA Attorney General's office and my local police to see what can be done to ensure other consumers are not taken for the same ride that I and others who have posted here have been taken for. more

Bankrupt scum bag 9/8/2011

After reading serveral other comments my heart literally sank. I made the unfortunate mistake in giving this guy a deposit back in April 2011 to have my driveway widened. ($700 deposit to be exact) After he never showed up when promised, I began calling him- which he did return my phone calls and feed me lie, after lie, after lie.\r finally, come mid July, I called Frank and explained to him that I wanted my deposit back- which he agreed to.... It is now September 8th, 2011 and still no check. I did a little research and indeed, this scum bag did file for bankrupty in May 2011- and I confirmed by calling his lawyer John Attiani @ (215)663-9016. As of 3 hours ago when I spoke to Mr. Summerill, ""my return check was in the mail"". Hahahaha! what a joke! This man is a coward- and wasn't even man enough to tell me that his business went under!\r Long story short, if your looking to throw money away (but at least get a good BS story out of the deal), then call this meat head- he'll screw you over. more

Don't Trust Summerill Paving 7/28/2011

Frank Summerill of Summerill Paving, Norristown, failed to honor a contract that he made with me to repave my driveway in King of Prussia with two inches of asphalt on top of six inches of crushed stone for a payment of $2,900. He did the job in August 2008, took the payment, and by February 2009 problems were appearing; parking a car overnight caused the dents in the driveway. After repeated calls to Mr. Summerill, he examined the driveway and said it was not covered by his warranty but that he could repair it for an additional payment. He denied that his workmanship or materials were at fault and tried to shift the blame to another contractor who had placed a dumpster on part of the driveway in April 2009, even though first dents appeared before the second contractor had arrived and the dents were worsening in other areas where the dumpster had not been. Because Mr. Summerill would not honor his contract, I sued him in District Court of Upper Merion for breach of contract (Docket Number CV-0000867-10). When I cut samples out of the asphalt in three different locations I found that it was not 2 inches think as specified by the contract; in some places it was less than 1 inch thick. In addition, I suspect that the foundation was less than the six inches of crushed stone that was specified in the contract that Mr. Summerill had written out at my kitchen table; this would explained the denting. The judge seemed inclined to rule in my favor but first suggested that we try to reach an agreement; however, Mr. Summerill failed to cooperate with the judge more

Hide Ya Money! 7/13/2011

Everything they're saying is true! This man is a fraud but yet the state continues to let him run a crooked operation. You can take him to small claims court to try and get reimbursed, but he filed for bankruptcy so you have little to no chance of getting your money back. Is there anyone out there who actually had him show up to a job in the past year? Based on the reviews it sounds like he is driving around, collecting money and occasionally sending out a subcontractor to do the work (if you're lucky). Please do your research when hiring a company to do your driveway. Don't make the same mistake that I made. As for the positive reviews you see listed here; They're either family members and/or Frank himself writing them. Summerill Paving would get 0 stars if that were a rating. more

For Aggravation, BS Stories, and Time Wasted, Please Contact 7/5/2011

I can assure you that I am not Frank's competition, but rather another pissed of customer who has been taken by a scam. Please avoid this company at all costs! Frank showed up to give me an estimate and took a deposit the very next day. That was the last I saw of him. Where does anyone get off thinking they can keep your money when they haven't done a thing to earn it??? If I can save anyone from the hassle that I have put up with, please heed my warnings. Do not hire this company! Frank feeds you lies, he was nothing but rude and insulting on the phone, and most importantly he has taken something of mine that does not belong to him ($$$). He is a thief and I believe he should be locked up! more

DO NOT HIRE FRANK DO NOT HIRE FRANK 6/4/2011

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! Don't know what those people were smoking when they wrote positive reviews because they were a bunch of crap. Should have listened to AlwaysLearning4, Frank Miller and Ber Klein. Everything they say is true as the same thing happened to me. He was very rude, threatening, insulting over the phone and in person. When I made a comment that I was unhappy with the work, he called me stupid because he's been in busy for 40 years and I knew nothing. Apparently as a client my opinion means nothing. He doesn't even do the job as he subcontracts out to other people and won't take responsibility of the work even though Summerill is the company that we had the contract with. Avoid Frank, his son and this company at all cost!!! I'd give him no stars if I could!!!! more

Hire Frank. End of discussion. 8/17/2010

Long story short, hire Frank Summerill to do the job you want done. Frank always did what he said he'd do, and WHEN he said he'd do it. Actually, that's not true. He was able to start my job a day EARLY! We had two driveways; he excavated both, and put in a new, expanded driveway up front, and put in topsoil in the back so we now have a backyard. Their work looks great, and the workers (including Frank's sons!) were very professional and courteous. Price wise, Frank was flexible and fair. It's pretty rare for me to say I trust a contractor - as I've been burned before - but I trust Frank and would hire him and his crew again in a heartbeat. more

Summerill Paving is EXCELLENT 8/3/2010

It is unfortunate that poor reviews were posted. It is even more unfortunate that anyone (a competitor???) can post FALSE reviews; as MUST be the case for Nov. 09'. I had the true pleasure of using Summerill Paving this past month to ecavate & pour a new: driveway & concrete apron/sidewalk. \r \r Frank Summerill was the first paving company to call me back (put out calls to numerous companies) and the first to come over to survey the job & provide me w/ a free estimate. He didn't send an 'associate'--he, the OWNER came out; which isn't always the case. After consideration of all the estimates, I chose Frank Summerill--and I didn't chose wrong! He got the permit for the job immediately & the inspector was out the same day. I asked the Township inspector what he thought of Frank's work...his response was all GOOD. (For the record, I had read the negative 'reviews' on this site prior to calling Summerill Paving--they just seemed contrived--odd to have multiple negative reviews on consecutive days). \r \r Not only does Frank oversee all the work being done, but his two son's (Frank & Jim) also work for & with him. To me that speaks volumes--it's one thing to 'be family' & it's another to 'work together' in a family business--They were all professional & friendly--and WORKED hard! \r \r During the project Frank was available AM/PM for my calls & questions. He stands by his name & his work. He gave a 3 year guarantee on material & workmanship. Also he provided informative handouts on maintenance & preservation of the new asphalt & concrete. \r \r I couldn't be happier with my experience with Summerill Paving. I wouldn't hesitate to use them on future home projects. Pros: Professional, Timely, Quality Work & Reasonable $$$ more

Insulting Follow Up Call 7/13/2010

I met with Frank over 2 months ago to get an estimate on a driveway excavation and paving. After we met and he commented on how it was the worse driveway he'd seen in 20yrs he gave me a price that was $2500 ABOVE other competitors I had already met with. Frank recently called me to ask about my interest in his proposal. By this time I already had the driveway paved and informed him of this. To which he told me how rude I was AND that he wished ME bad luck on the house! This man was extremely insulting and unprofessional. I recommend you do not even contact him for possible projects, it's a waste of time and his behavior has me un-nerved! Pros: On time to our appointment Cons: DISRESPECTFUL and overpriced more

Fantastic work, timely and as promised! 6/9/2010

Summerill was fantastic! While waiting for just a call back from another landscaper, I approached Summerill while they were doing driveways for two of my neighbors. A 4th neighbor inquired with them as well! Frank and Jimmy were friendly, professional and promot to do estimates, which were very reasonable (my neighbors did the ""screening"" reserach for their projects). I was pleased that the excavation to our backyard occured as promised and then the mulch (subcontracted to landscaper) was delivered as promised (before the rain please!). I will definitely recommend Summerill and use them again. Pros: Reasonably priced, prompt, respected my time, great quality Cons: -- more

Two thumbs down 11/4/2009

I just found this wed site and I hope the word gets out. This company Summerill paving and seal coating gets a rating of two thumbs down. Frank was VERY rude to me on the phone and when he talked to my wife.He said "" I'v been doing this for 20 years. I don't need this."" I was just asking normal questions. Who talks to people that way.I reported him to my local township and they are looking into this. Pros: Help me Cons: This guy is a joke!! more

No good for business 11/3/2009

Frank came and paved my driveway about 1 year ago. He said he would guarantee his work for 1 year. After about 3 mounths, I had over 100 feet of cracks in my driveway. When he came back to look at the driveway he wanted 4,000 more dollers to fix what he screwed up. Now 6,000 dollers later i need to call some one in to replace the driveway. \r Thanks Frank for taking . A@#hole Pros: Joke Cons: Would not come back!!!!! more
