Editorial review from Citysearch 1/21/2015

Awful!!! Went here because they are one of two vets in the area who carry a treatment protocol for Feline Leukemia. Neither vet seemed to really understand the actual protocol, which meant that I called the company who provided the injections and spoke to one of their vets to find out when I should actually be taking in my kitten. Secondly, this starts with a three week series. Not only did they charge a $40 injection fee (which I was ok with), but each of the three weeks they charged a $50 exam fee -- taking his weight, temp and running a flea comb. Useful. This fact actually caused me to ask my regular vet to start carrying it. I was told by Dr. Otterson that he was selling me the product 'at cost.' 3 shots = $307. Upon further research found out that their definition of 'at cost' is an 80% mark up. I understand that you have to make a living, but don't tell me I am 'at cost' when it is in fact a hefty mark-up. Unprofessional, unethical and fully ready to take advantage of pet owners who want to do the right thing. more

We have spent well over $1500.00 since last February '11 when we took our elderly cat to the clinic who was loosing weight and was lethargic. Our initial visit was over $450.00 for a diagnostic workup. Our cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which is common in older cats.Thereafter we had to bring her in almost every month for bloodwork and a checkup. We were told that she had to have the doctor check her each time and that they couldn't just do the bloodswork. The very last time I took her I tried to discuss with the staff about the expense of her treatment. That visit ended up costing $401.00 because they told me she was dehydrated and needed fluids. They also told me at that visit that she had tartar build up on her teeth and recommended a cleaning that would involve anesthesia. \r \r We took her to a new clinic today. The staff were very kind and friendly. The doctor was very nice and personable and explained that the bloodwork only had to be done every 3 months and then every 6 mon more

A year ago, i took a stray feral cat, I named Fritz, to Summer Street Cat Clinic for neutering and vaccinations. When I picked him up, he was renamed Sweetie Pie. The doctors and staff were very knowledgeable and gained this cat's trust. He is now an important member of our family. Recently, he became ill, and I was grateful to have this clinic available. Because they have modern, advanced diagnostic equipment and excellent doctors, who specialize in the treatment of cats, they were able to save my cat's life. We are fortunate to have a specialty clinic such as this in our area. I highly recommend the SSCC. more

Thank you Summer Street Staff 1/3/2011

I brought 3 kittens into my home with two dogs already there. Summer Street walked me through the whole deal, gave me great advice and put my mind at ease. They even called to see how the kitten were doing. I am bringing kitten #4 in to our home this week. more

very very bad all around experience 11/11/2010

Took my cat for a routine visit, healthy but wanted to do expensive blood work.I declined and they wanted to put him in a study.Would cover blood work but I had to pay for anesthesia and teeth cleaning. No evidence of any medical problems Agreed because I thought I was doing the right thing for my cat. Two weeks later my granddaughter found my beautiful persian cat dead. Called Summer Street Cat Clinic and told because it was Sunday there would be a charge for bringing him in. Told to keep him cold and take him Monday. Took him in and asked for an autopsy. Result was cardiomyopathy which it seems was undetected or ignored before and during the procedure. They now have a paw print there and when I asked if it could be mailed because a visit would be painful was told there would be a charge. Have already paid out hundreds of dollars and my cat is dead but will be charged for postage for the paw print. Greed, lies and insensitivity seem common in this practice. I am afraid to get another cat after this horrible experience My cat trusted me,I trusted Summer Street and although they made a profit my cat is dead. Go somewhere else. Stay away from Summer Street. more

Don't bother coming here if you actually value bedside manner a veterinary opinion that doesn't come with condescension. I made an appointment here for my senior kitty because it was the only place I could get into and he had stopped eating. $51 dollars later, I was told that he had tartar and FELT dehydrated. I asked what it could possibly be that was causing anorexia and they advised me that there's no way to tell, it could a myriad of things but for the low price of $450-$600 for a diagnostic, I'd have all answers I need. \r \r I am a strong believer in giving the benefit of the doubt--but I strongly believe that this particular practice places way more emphasis on turning a profit rather than veterinary medicine.I was given no other option, they didn't even mention to me one of the "myriad" of possible causes (and yes, I understand there are numerous causes for anorexia in cats, all of them serious) and then told me that if I didn't make my decision on the diagnostic right then and more

Satisfied client of Summer St. 7/25/2010

Summer Street is simply the best vet I have ever had in over 30 years of having kitties. I cannot say enough about their wonderful staff and services. Yes, their prices aren't cheap, but I have always felt that we got excellent care. I have had many emergency situations over the years with special needs cats, and they have handled it with speed and care. I recommend them highly. Yes, there is a possibility of reactions to shots (we had one) but after care is great, and they recommended against the same shot in the future, of course. I went there after a bad experience with another vet in our area. We attend the Getzville location. \r \r They are excellent! more

not recommended 5/11/2010

These people are always finding an extra thing or two that require more expensive tests. The tests are generally inconclusive. The facilities seem nice and clean enough. \r \r We actually started out going to the Getzville clinic but decided NEVER to return after one of the vets there traumatized our cat to the point that he soiled his carrier on the way home (something he never had done before in 11 years). Now we are finished with the Summer Street address as well - when we return to our home town and bring the cats to their old vet, he finds them in more-or-less good health and doesn't require any of the expensive procedures. He hasn't been wrong yet in 25 years so we trust him!\r \r Lastly, the Summer Street folks gave one of our cats a vaccine that made her sick and then they denied it. Let's face it: if a cat is in good health and then she gets a shot, and within 12 hours she has lost all appetite and becomes nervous, weak, and dehydrated for almost a week, one would expect the more

I loved the clinic 7/12/2006

I participated in a huge rescue of purebred cats which were living in horrid conditions. These cats had everything under the sun wrong with them and the normal amox was not working. We brought these cats to this clinic and within a month they were all healthy enough to adopt out. They love the cats and showed them great attention. Kind of pricey tho. PROS: great vet and staff CONS: pricey more

Summer Street Cat Clinic 6/28/2006

This clinic is very professional. It is located off Summer Street in Buffalo. This is the place I know regularly take my cat when she is in the need of any type of treatment. The staff here is great. They are very friendly. They treat my cat like royalty. I highly recommend this place. more

a great place for cats 8/19/2005

Summer Street is a gret place to go if your cat is uncomfortable being around dogs or other pets. They're specialization allows them to truly focus on cat problems. My cat was diagnosed there and cared for exquisitely. They actually saved his life once. On the other hand, you have to pay a little more than usual for this kind of care. For serious problems, I recommend it highly. more
