What a wonderful experience! 5/18/2007

My wife and I absolutely loved this place! Fantastic food, excellent wine list, and wonderful service. James took care of us, and everything was timed perfect. Definetely recommend the Crab Cake appetizer and the baby green salad. My wife had a filet and I had a Cowboy ribeye, both were prepared to perfection literally melting in our mouths. Do try the pecan pie with a shot of Jack Daniel's over the top. Not to mention the building, the place is literally a muesum with so many different things to see. We will definetely be back and we will definetely ask for James, and I encourage you to do the same! Pros: Steaks, EXCELLANT WINE LIST, building more

Great Service......above average food 5/15/2007

This past March I took a group of approximately 25 people to the Stockyard for dinner...The building was old and musty. The room we were seated in the wall paper was literally taped and coming off the wall. All that aside the service was top notch the food was ok, but extremely overpriced, but what left the biggest impression on me was the management. More than once a gentleman who I assumed to be a manager because of his constant verbal abuse of his staff, he literally brought one of our servers to almost tears....The food took forever almost 40 mins. and when I received the check I was shocked by how much everything cost. If it wasn't for the great staff the whole thing would have been a disater. Clearly this establishment is run by morons with a chip on there shoulder. more

Great steak and wonderful service in an historic atmosphere 5/6/2007

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. The steaks are so tender, are cooked perfectly and are not overly seasoned like they are at lesser establishments which appeal to the unwashed masses. Their wine list is simply divine and our trusted server, Jeff, is always ready with a recommendation to expand our horizons. The desserts are heavenly and we always end up with a little left over for a midnight snack. The tab may seem a bit much, but you get so much for what you pay. As for the decor, I think it is true to the building's roots and compliments the architecture and ambiance. I love it. Pros: Steaks, desserts, service more

Best Steak and excellent service! 4/30/2007

Best service, best steak and lobster, best unique atmosphere and seating set up. Great for group and individual, this place is huge but you would never believe it by the outstanding way things are handled and the set-up of the restaurant. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere...attention to detail, plenty of parking too Cons: Had to have everything and ate too much more

Outstanding, unique Nashville experience!! 4/22/2007

Last night I took a group of friends to the Stockyard Restaurant for a birthday dinner. We had plans of going out on the town after dinner so we parked at a local hotel and had the restaurant complimentary shuttle pick us up so we could have a few cocktails with dinner and not worry about driving and finding parking later - this was the best!! The shuttle servcie was promt and the driver knowledgable and helpful. Our server was outstanting, the food incredible and the atmosphere of the antique/historical restaurant was unique. Great wine list too. Our server gave us a little history of the building, his favorite recommendations off the menu and he wasn't one of those ""fake"" servers you normally get at a steakhouse. There was also a cowboy who came into our room at one point to do a few sing along songs, this was great... it prepared us for our trip out on the town. Thanks Billy Bob!! Pros: Lots of parking, Outstanding service, Excellent food, Unique experience Cons: Recommend reservations more

great steak, superior service 1/23/2007

On a recent trip to Nashville, I hosted a business dinner at the Stockyard for several associates. We were greeted by our well-informed server, Steven, who made several suggestions regarding the well composed wine list as well as the food menu. Our steaks were well prepared, the blackened filet and shrimp combo to die for, and our wine perfectly complimented the progression of the meal. The service was about the best I have ever received, perfectly balancing the need for privacy while keeping the meal moving forward. Kudos, Steven! While visiting this establishment, take my advice: ask for Steven, follow his suggestions, order the baby mixed greens salad, and don't leave without having a slice of the key lime pie. Bon Apetit!!! Pros: Service, steaks, wine list Cons: pricey more

Very Unremarkable Tourist Trap 12/30/2006

Very unremrakable; poor service; poor management response to poor service; food very pedestrian; all the beforehand was somewhat surrprising as two previous experiences were above average. The final analysis of our 10 person group was that it has joined the ranks of the tourist traps. They did pick us up in their private shuttle. The shuttle ride was the best part of the visit. Pros: Free shuttle Cons: Management's response to situation more

Sad sack restaurant, down on its luck 12/28/2006

Boy, has this joint seen better days!!! Please heed my advice and go to Ruth's Chris or Morton's, Fleming's or even Merchant's, or you will be really sorry you went to be creeped out by this weird, dated graveyard. I remember when Buddy Killen owned it it was supposedly the place to ""be seen."" Those days are LONG past as nobody appears to go there anymore (except unsuspecting tourists like the out of town relatives who insisted on taking us there over Christmas break!!) It stinks of Lysol and they *might* have last updated the decor in 1985 (chintz, worn filthy carpets.) Only about 10 people were in this huge place the night our party of 6 went ... we felt so bad for the staff we double-tipped them. They looked like they were about to get pink-slipped any second. We felt like we were in the most forlorn restaurant in the world. The servers were pretty good - old-school steakhouse types - but I didn't think it was very professional to point out what was crummy on the menu, and to moo when they put the steak in front of my friend's mom. Yuck! The food was average at *best* - there was hardly anything for this non-steak eater ... except a $40 lobster pasta dish and the chicken I ordered which was basically a big once-frozen Sam's Club filet over institutional rice pilaf for $21. Oh yeah, and our plates were all garnished with those weird red dyed pineapple or apple rings - whatever they are - like they used to put on dinner plates in the 70s or something! Gross! I ordered the chicken because once I had a gander at the creepy look and atmosphere of this joint I was determined to give them as little of my money as possible and that was the cheapest thing on the menu. Total bill was $350 for a meal that was worth about $150 - MAYBE. Wow, what a waste of money. Seriously, how do they keep the lights on? I'm pretty sure nobody goes back twice. Cons: Food, ambience, sad-sack servers! more

Terrible Steak 10/23/2006

I had dinner with three friends, one steak was great, one was edible and two were terrible. Service and wine list were great. Asked for a refund on the bad steaks and were not given one. Total bill was in excess of $800, one would think they could have comp'd the bad steaks, I guess not. Would never go back. more

Overall good 8/1/2006

My wife and I both had strips, and they were delicious. Our waiter was pretending to be British, then when he served the steaks he said, ""here's your slab of dead cow,"" minus the British accent. Okay experience except for the space-cadet waiter. Pros: Strip Steaks Cons: Just that goofy waiter... more

The Stockyard: A Thoughtful Review 7/21/2006

I recieved a gift cerfiticate from my employees for the Stockyard. I went to this website and saw all the negative comments, and heard other negative items so I wasn't that excited about going. As a result I had low expectations. Keeping that fact in mind, the Stockyard far exceeded my expectations. Pros: Service, tenderless of steak (melt in your mouth), ambiance (history) Cons: Steak not seasoned much - (minor "con") more

Bad decor and Tasteless Steak! 4/25/2006

I was disappointed by the filet. It was very expensive but tasteless. It was a good cut but I had to add butter to it to give it some flavor. Would not have expected this for such an expensive place. Also, the decor in the rooms is so outdated. Pros: Good wine list Cons: Tasteless filet, expensive, bad decor more

Best Steak I Ever Had! 3/17/2006

This is a great place, and I would highly recommend it! The crab cakes, steak and key lime pie are to die for! Also, the complementary shuttle service to and from the restaurant is a great bonus for travelers. It is expensive, but worth every penny! Have the filet ""oscar"" style and get the baby greens salad, and ask for the Tennessee Tea! Pros: Menu Selection, Service, Food Cons: Seating, Price more

User review by electrocution 2/18/2006

Just wasnt impressed with anything here the service was slow the building was blah not exactly a fine dining establishment. There are better in Nashville such as the Palms Ruth Chris's Eddie Georges. I wouldnt recommend for anyone Pros: selection Cons: scenery, price, service more

Excellent steak 2/15/2006

One of the best steaks that I have ever had.....very good quality, juicy and flavorful. A worthwile visit while in Nashville Pros: FOOD, FREE SHUTTLE, SERVICE Cons: NOT CLOSE TO HOTELS, DIFFICULT TO FIND more

Worst Valentine's Dinner Ever 2/14/2006

This place is a complete joke of a restaurant....i was okay with the upscale prices until i received my appetizers after my entrees. And nothing was done to our bill to make up for their mistakes, even after asking them. The filet i got was not cooked how i asked it, and it wasn't even a good quality steak at all. The crabcakes i received after my entree were just disgusting. The chicken my g/f got was good, and that was about all...the waiter was not kind at all or helpful, our drinks were never filled up..i wasted 100 bucks on a meal that was not even the quality of ryan's steakhouse. Please do not go here, its very bad. I was shocked! and now i feel bad about deciding to take my g/f there for Valentine's. Pros: pepsi tasted ok, um....., um...good parking Cons: terrible service, overpriced food, food was not good more

Great Nashville Steakhouse 11/24/2005

I love this place. I have never had a bad meal and the service is always excellent. I highly recommend The Stockyard Restaurant. Pros: Free parking, Great steaks, awesome service more

Shoney's steaks are better 11/16/2005

A party of 3 of us ate at the stockyard. I had a ribeye which was cooked properly, but taste like shoe leather. It is definitely not the same quality meat as before the transfer of ownership. This place seems to cater to groups who are from out of town and don't know any better. Both my colleagues steaks were cooked wrong and the filet was not top quality either. Our tab for 3 was $267 with tip which is about $200 too much for piss poor food. Our server was very knowledgable and did a great job. Pros: Great employees, Good management, Great desserts Cons: Poor quality steaks, Poor meat quality, Cheap meat more

Too Pricey 9/11/2005

I was looking for a romantic place to take my wife for our 1 year aniversary. After all the restaurants that she wanted to go to were closed on sunday, I made the choice for the Stockyard. As soon as we walked in the the place we were greated and shown to our table. After looking at the wine list, I ordered a $30 bottle that would be $5 at the store. The food was great though. I'm a sucker for a good steak and this is where you can get one. The only problems I had was the overpriced wine and that it just wasn't my type of place to go. If you like something up tempo then this is not the place, but if you like to pay $35 for a 7oz filet, and five times the price for wine, then this is the place for you. Pros: Staff, Food Cons: Expensive, Expensive, Expensive more

Awsome steak but not cheap! 9/10/2005

I really enjoyed our recent visit to the Stockyard Restaurant. The steak was outstanding and the atmosphere was incredible. Our server, John was very attentive. He didn't let our glasses get even half empty all night. I think dining at the Stockyard was a great experience, but I would definitely recommend making a reservation. Even with a reservation, we waited nearly an hour to be seated. I will have to say that the main negative to dining at the Stockyard is the pricing. You'll find yourself paying quite a bit more than at the general steak house. However, if you want a fun night out and have a craving for a truly great steak, then the Stockyard is worth it. more
