Fantastic! 7/31/2005

On a recent trip to Nashville my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at The Stock Yard Restaurant. From Terry the shuttle driver to Daley our server and to all who greeted us as we entered and exited, this made for a most pleasurable evening. On top of that the food was fantastic. We will go back again. Pros: Complimentary shuttle, Great food, Fantastic service more

POOR SERVICE OVERPRICED FOOD 7/24/2005

Even with early reservations it took over one and a half hours to be seated. The management was in chaos; because selections were priced ala carte instead of the normal composite price, a suggested sample platter cost over $350.00. The bill, which totaled close to $1,000.00, included a few items that were never received nor ordered. Simple things like finger wipes were not available. All in all this legendary restaurant has seriously deteriorated and no one in our group of 10 will be returning any time soon. What a shame!!! Pros: NONE REALLY Cons: poor service, overcharged more

Shuttle Ride the best part ! 7/21/2005

My Wife and I were picked up promptly at Union Station and the driver was very friendly...that's when things started downhill. When we arrived at The Stockyard, we were supposed to have been seated in smoking, but the reservation was wrong. We were finally escorted to a hot, dank room and seated in a corner. We ordered a $55 bottle of BV Pinot Noir that tuned out to be BV costal ($8.99 at Kroger) The waiter asked us if we wanted another bottle since we ""struck out with the first"" They were out of the Greg Norman Shiraz, and tried to charge $10 to split a 50 dollar 24oz steak (on top of a $175 bill) and we had to wait for some time the return shuttle. Dont waste your time or money at this establishment. The buzz among locals is that it has gone downhill under the new owners Pros: Food OK Cons: Overpriced, Overrated, poor ambiance more

Pricey, but delicious! 7/12/2005

Best crab cakes in the South! This is a great steakhouse. Dining with 14 people was a great experience at Stock Yard. The prices are a little steep, but the food and service was definately worth it. more

Good but not great 7/11/2005

I have have better, but I have had much worse. I would go again if for nothing more than the ambience. The history of the building is very interesting alone. It is a little overpriced. more

Yum 7/3/2005

So, my brother and his fiancee are in town and my dad decides he wants to go to The Stockyard. I look at their website and I'm thrilled to see ""Vegetarian Entrees Available"". Hooray! Well, they need to change it to ""Entree"" as one's only option is the alfredo with no meat, or combine some side dishes. The service was very attentive, our waiter was nice. Our glasses were never empty. I wasn't so keen on the constant desire of our waiter to raise the amount of our check but he wasn't so pushy as to become rude. The building itself is amazing. I snuck around upstairs a bit, reading the newspaper articles about the history of the building. My family loved their steaks, so I'd recommend it to someone looking for a steak. Pros: Lovely building, Attentive Waitstaff, Yummy broccoli Cons: 1 vegetarian entree, High pressure sales more

A lot of money for a very poor meal 6/26/2005

We have not eaten here for many years, so were excited to hear about new management and were hopeful for a great steak. Unfortunately, the prices are very high for the quality of the meal. Our steaks were rubbery and tasteless and tasted oddly like they had been soaked in water. We spent over $250 for four people and the food was some of the worst I have had. The management should be ashamed to charge this much for the poor quality of food served. more

Much better than the reviews! 6/25/2005

I almost cancelled reservations due to bad reviews. I'm glad I didn't. Jeff, our waiter, was great the food was great. Our water glasses didnt go below half. The food was wonderful. The pace of the meal was just right. It is a bit pricey, but on pace with other fine dining establishments. Four adults without alcohol, expect about $200. I have had steaks from all over and from many kinds of restaurants. This was the best. No sauce needed! I ordered my steak medium. It was perfect. My wife chose the teriyaki chicken/steak combo, which was great. The escargot is the best I have had and the crab cakes wont disappoint. Tomato salad is just as in Italy. I will go back to the Stock Yard for special occasions. There were some in jeans as well as some in Tuxedos. I will eat at the Stock Yard again. Pros: Food quality, Service, Ambiance more

Great service, so-so food 10/2/2004

On a recent business trip to Nashville I hosted adinner at Stock-Yard. My party was greeted promptly upon arrival and led to one of the many dining rooms the building offers. Our server, Steve, greeted us promptly, offering several entree suggestions, including a wine pairing for each. His knowledge seemed impressive, so I regret not following his advice. The steak I ordered was overly charred, but more rare than ordered, the lobster tail was rubbery and tasteless. The guests who ordered the suggested items, a filet oscar and porterhouse with a specialty salad were far more pleased. The wine suggestion was also a winner. The service was relaxed, yet prompt. Formal, but comfortable. We asked for suggestions for local clubs and were guided to a local Blues club, where everyone had a blast. All-in-all, we were treated to world-class service, but food quality which fails to meet its' price point. Pros: Service, Service, Service Cons: , Price more

Wonderful!! 9/12/2004

We ate at the Stockyard during the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament. It was absolutely wonderful. My filet was perfection. My son had shrimp and my husband had grilled salmon. While they said theirs was good, after they tasted my filet, they tried to get me to swap. The service was exceptional; was seated promptly after arriving, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I'll definitely go back!! more

Outstanding Service 6/17/2004

The Stockyard Restaurant served the best steak that I have ever had. That was no comparison to the server that I had. Doug was the best server ever. He was very knowledgable about the menu, and the seafood platter that he recomended with the lobster was excellent. The wine that he recommended with the steak, Ferrari-Corrona, cabernet-sauviegnon 2001, was perfect. Doug thank you for a very memorable time. If you go to the Stockyard with a big group of people ask for Doug, you will not be disappointed. more

One of my best Experiences 6/5/2004

I worked as a server at the Stockyard over 10 years ago and now live in NYC. I came back to Nashville for an Opryland visit and decided to go back to the Stockyard. Karen was our server and we had one of the most amazing dinners I have ever experienced. From the perfectly tossed Ceasar salad, the perfectly moist lobster tails, the perfectly cooked prime rib and the most wonderful Key Lime pie. This place is fabulous!!!! Karen made the evening so enjoyable and she is filled with restaurant history. more

The Total Package 5/27/2004

A total package for group dining, starting with free shuttle bus to and from my hotel. The building and interior set the ambiance with a spectacular chandelier in the lobby and my private room upstairs. My waiter Tommy was very entertaining with a remarkable presentation giving the daily specials and his favorites as well. He even told us the buildings history. I had the surf and turf injection that Tommy recommended with a filet oscar (topped with crabmeat, asparagus, and bernaise sauce) and a whole main lobster stuffed with crabmeat. I was escorted to the restroom instead of given directions and never had to ask for another drink. The servers crumbed the table and replaced dirty silverware before each course. It ended with Tommy personally escorting us down to the lobby and thanking us for coming in that evening. To Tommy and the staff of the Stockyard. Keep up the good work. Pros: shuttle service, private dining rooms, service more

a taste of Nashville 5/27/2004

The Stockyard is unique. It provides free shuttle service, ambiance, enough photos, memorabilia, and history to be considered a museum, certified angus beef, a great winelist including the oldest bottle in NorthAmerica, a musician, and unbeatable service. Our server for my group of 15 was a well groomed gentleman named Tommy. He made us laugh with his stories and outgoing personality. He described the food so colorfully that I was drooling with anticipation to order. The surf and turf injection was superb. For dessert keylime pie served with a white dessert wine suggested by Tommy that complimented the dessert wonderfully. The musician Billy Bob then entertained us. Finally, we were escorted along with my group to the lobby by our server Tommy and thanked for the business. It is he and the restaurant that should be thanked because my clients were full, happy, entertained, and ready to do business in Nashville. Pros: shuttle bus service, service, private dining rooms more

Sneaky tricks to increase the bill 5/24/2004

Dinner went well, except when it came to dessert. We ordered pecan pie. The waiter said, ""The pecan pie is amazing with a shot of Jack Daniels poured over it. I'll pour a shot over and you'll see."" Oh, we saw alright...that he charged us $15.00 for the shot of Jack Daniels. Not only was that a rip off, but it was outright sleazy. We (our entire company) will never go to the Stockyard again. We can get better food and better prices other steakhouses - and not get swindled. more

Outback doesn't compare! 5/10/2004

Those who like Outback are those who prefer their steak HEAVILY seasoned and they are just as ""charred"" as the steaks the StockYard does. The Prime Rib is most excellent, as are the crabcakes and the New York Strip. I think the Outback's steaks are way too salty for my taste. StockYard is spendy, but it is WELL worth the money. I wonder if those who had bad experiences ever complained to the management. That's their job, to make it better and they depend on their customers to let them know of it. I have yet to have a bad night at the StockYard! Yes, the building is OLD, but that's the charm of it. It used to be an actual stock yard back in the day. (Take the time to read the history in the menu.) Don't judge a book by its cover. Taste the food! more

Great Dinner 3/11/2004

Looking for a great steak?...go to the Stock-Yard! Our party of 4 had a late dinner here on March 6th, following the Grand Old Opry show. We all ordered steaks &/or prime rib, and everything was perfect. Our host ordered lobster for us all to share. Ray, our waiter, took care of getting all the lobster out of the shell for us, making it much more enjoyable! The ambience is great, with the private rooms and antique ""classic"" home look/feel. We were too full after the meal to even consider dessert, but the quality and quantity of the food would bring me back. Thanks, Ray and the Stock-Yard! Pros: Great Food, Privacy, Good Parking more

IMPECCABLE!! 2/23/2004

My family of 4 ate here before attending the Grand Ole Opry on Friday night while we were on vacation. The night could not have started better. The food was delicious and the service impeccable & memorable. Why this establishment is not listed as kid-friendly is beyond me. The staff was marvelous to my 13 and 7 year old. Of all of the places we've eaten, Rome, Florence, Vancouver, New York, Costa del Sol, this dining experience ranks as best service & top 3 for food. Definitely worth the price. Pros: Service more

The best dinner I have eaten in Nashville. The prime-rib was the best I have ever had. Well worth the money for a nice out with my girlfriend. more

Not recommended 12/18/2003

When I moved to Nashville 6 years ago I was told that this was the steak house in town. I went there to eat before I went to a concert at the GEC. The food was ok but nothing special. I told many of my friends that were thinking about eating there that Logans had better food and service. I am willing to pay the price for a good steak but did not get it at here. Cons: expensive, crowded more
