Just so you know, when you purchase a dog at a pet store, you are most likely perpetuating the continuation of puppy mills. Sure, your puppy may be healthy and live a long and hap...

Wonderful place 11/1/2010

""A couple of months ago, I bought a dog from Steve's. I think it is a wonderful idea to let the kids play and handle the animals. How can you truely know if you want a pet unless you hold it in your arms and look into the animal's adorable eyes. And the people are supervised as they handle the animals. My grandchild wanted to hold a dog a few months ago, but the supervisor wouldn't let her play with the dog until her mother came. I think Steve's is a wonderful place to buy a dog. And I love what they have done with the new dog area."" more

Extremely Knowledgeable 10/18/2010

""I have been a customer of Steve's for a long long time now, even before they started selling puppies. After reading some of the other reviews I felt the need to speak my mind of the store. Steve's has always been the best pet store around this area. That doesn't mean there aren't other good pet stores around but nobody takes care of their animals like steve's does. The staff that has been employed there over the years I've been a customer has always been extremely knowledgeable and cares deeply for the health and well being of the pets. I would argue to say that anyone that has a negative thing to say about steve's hasn't actually shopped there, at least not for long enough to make an educated statement. Anyone with a problem can ALWAYS find the answer at Steve's."" more

Wonderful World of Pets 10/2/2010

Had a couple medical problems with my puppy, spent the money at a good vet. Will probably have more medical problems in the future because the breeding stock must not have been good. I started researching; wished it was not true, but those puppies do come from puppymills. Even if I forget about all the bad stuff people say about puppymills, the hurt and cost to my children because our puppy has problems makes me very upset! Sorry to say it, but I would not buy animals from here. more

Fantastic 9/23/2010

Wonderful World of Pets is...: ...RIGHT! This place is fantastic for all kinds of pet needs. They actually have animals right in the store. A fabulous place to take the kids to pick out their perfect pet. My daughter loves it here. She was able to pick out her perfect hamster and find all the essentials to make his new move a happy one. 5 stars doesn't cut it...I'll go one better and say 6. more

A shop that knows what they are doing 9/20/2010

They provide great animal resources and information, even for the animal beginners. I suggest that people looking for a good place to shop for new or old animals, go here. They can answer all your questions about any problems or concerns you may have about your pet. And they will even give you tips on things you can do. more

cute puppies 9/16/2010

it is the best: in this store they have live animals ready to be bought and i think this store should be sponsored because they should make this store much bigger cause all there animals look healthy when you go in more

I could not be more happy! 9/3/2010

I just bought a puppy from Steve's 2 weeks ago and I could not be more happy! Since I bought him I have been back to Steve's several times and every single employee has been so helpful. As soon as we walk in the store they rush over to visit with my dog and talk about how much they miss him. They all care about me and my dog and listen and help me as I ask tons of questions and in general just want to talk about my dog. When I bought him they gave me tons of info on his BREEDER, as he is NOT from a PUPPY MILL. They were very reasonably priced (I have even purchased several items from them that I found to be cheaper than corporations like PetSmart) and while some may disagree with the idea that dogs are handled by people I think it did wonders for him, as he is open and loving with people and well socialized because of it. In addition I like that I was actually able to make several visits and make sure that he was really the dog I wanted before I purchased him. He already had all his shots and was neutered upon me purchasing him. I am so happy with him and the services Steve's has offered to me and my puppy! more

Great for dogs, kittens and birds 9/2/2010

I find Steve's a nice spot to shop. The staff is friendly and informed on their subject matter. This is an excellent spot to shop for puppies, kittens and birds. An excellent selection of top quality foods I would rather shop here than go to one of the major national chain stores. more

Store smells, puppies from known puppy mills 7/26/2010

I walked into this store to try and find a leash for my dog and I could hardly stay in there it smelled so bad. I was nauseated. All of the puppies are in small cages that do not appear clean. Upon further research I found that their puppies come from the Hunt Corp, which is a known puppy mill. You can search this online and find multiple reputable reports of cruelty to animals and unsanitary conditions there. I will never visit this store again because the smell is just so horrible I can't take it. But a more important reason is I would never support a store that supports puppy mills. There are many reputable local rescue organizations and the SPCA that have mixed breed and purebreed puppies and adult dogs. more

Shut this place down already! 9/2/2009

I visited Steve's because I was new to the area and didn't know what horrors awaited me. Though they have neat toys, I bought nothing from Steve's. The sale of puppies in pet stores is archaic and barbaric. Everyone knows where these dogs come from. Everyone knows that when you buy one you put money right in the pockets of puppy mill butchers. They deny that their puppies come from mills but couldn't put me in direct contact with any breeder! Even petco and pet-smart, huge, soulless chains, only keep ASPC adoptable dogs and cats todays. This store needs to be shut down. Please, the next time your child begs to go see the cute animals take the opportunity to educate them about humane and responsible husbandry, and DON'T cave in. Pros: None worth selling your soul for! Cons: Puppy mill puppies and unknowledgeable staff. more

One of the best pet stores in the USA. 2/7/2009

Cry Cry Cry Wa Wa Wa. Every complaint I hear about Steve's Wonderful World of Pets is posted by ignorant people that don't know the facts. Instead of being a cry baby about how horrible the puppies are there, try going there and talking rationally to the employees about where the puppies come from and how well they take care of all of their animals. I've been a customer of Steve's Wonderful World of Pets for the past 12 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. I have also worked in the pet industry for 15 years and have seen many different pet stores that carry dogs throughout the USA, so yes I am well informed about the pet store business and Steve's Wonderful World of Pets is one of the best. I guess the moral of the story is to try and base your opinions on the facts. Pros: Wide variety of pets and good customer service. Cons: I wish they were open longer. more

crappy service and overpriced! 11/14/2008

On our second trip to Steve?s pets we were met with the rudest employee I have ever seen. My girlfriend and I were looking at a beagle puppy and were really interested in buying her. There was only one employee in the puppy area to start. We were ignored for 15 minutes when she was talking to another customer that was very indecisive. We stood in front of the dog?s cage for 15 minutes waiting for service. Finally we were allowed to see the puppy. After 5 minutes of playing with the puppy, the woman employee walked into the cage, grabbed the dog from us and put her away. She ignored us and didn?t ask if we were done seeing her. She didn?t ask if we were interested or anything just took the dog and put her away. Then she came out of the puppy room and walked away to talk to the indecisive customer from before. I am so angry with the crappy service that I don?t know if I will ever go back to the store. If you do go to the store be prepared for crappy service unless you get a younger employee and prepare to empty your pocket on the price of these dogs. Who ever heard of 1000 dollars for a beagle! The puppy was not even AKC or had any other certifications. All it has is the apr and aca. Pros: store was well lit Cons: horrible service/ overpriced dogs more

Horrible place for puppies!!! 8/2/2008

Anyone who would go there so their kids can play with the puppies is sick when they know where these dogs came from. Inhumane puppy millls where the parents spend their lives in squallor and suffering. Shame on you for teaching your children that it's OK to go there and approve of what they are doing. Any companion animal is given to us to love us and us love them back. Not toys for kids. Get your head around this and stop teaching your kids that it's ok to support the inhumane treatment of any living being. Pros: NOthing AT all!!! Cons: Wanna talk puppy mills????? more

Steve's Wonderful World of Pets = Puppy mill puppies 6/11/2008

99% of the pupppies that Steve's sell come from puppy mills. NO \r responsible breeder would ever sell their dogs to a pet store. \r \r Pet stores get most of their dogs from Hunte Corporation who is a broker \r that gets most of his dogs from puppy mills. The employees may also tell you that their dogs come from places that are USDA licensed breeders ... those are puppy mills , please go to the website prisoners of greed and search hunte corporation in that website or broker.\r \r \r \r If the employees at Steve's tell you they get the puppies from local\r breeders, get the address and check it out. The address of the local\r breeder would probably be somewhere in Ohio or Missouri (big puppy mill\r states)\r \r The only reason to breed is for the betterment of the breed ... not as a\r cash crop.\r \r Animal lovers have been writing letters and talking to Steve for years \r to stop selling these mill puppies to people that don't know any better. \r Even people who do know better buy one thinking they are saving that one \r but another will take it's place so the horrible cycle continues as long \r as the public keeps buying. If there's no buyers for these pups there \r would be no reason to keep churning out these ill-bred puppies.\r \r In the meantime the parents of these cute little puppies are suffering in\r cages 24/7, no human contact, no vet care, inadequate food, never touched\r grass, unsocialized and bred until they can breed no more and are usually\r destroyed.\r \r THe way to stop this is through education and legislation. DO NOT BUY \r THAT PUPPY FROM A PET STORE for God's sake and the mill dogs sake! more
