My husband and I went to Steve Quick Jewelers for our wedding bands and engagement ring. We dealt primarily with Dana but found that overall, everyone was pleasant to work with. From the moment we met Dana she was helpful, informative and upbeat. We ended up doing 2 custom rings and couldn't be any happier with the result. The process was something very new and frightening and putting our trust in Dana was the best thing we could have done. I get a compliment on my ring at least once a week - it is gorgeous and so unique. The quality of the stones and the design really stands out amongst others. SQJ and Dana were mindful of our budget and did everything they could to expedite the ""custom"" process for us. We will be using SJQ for life! more

I went to Steve Quick for an engagement ring knowing nothing about jewelry. I met with them 2-3 times to learn about jewelry before I even mentioned I may buy something. The staff was very knowledgeable and forthcoming with information and spent plenty of time educating me on their products and services. More than anything, there was never a point where anyone tried to sell me anything I didn't want or couldn't afford. Being a designer myself I found everyone to be as passionate as I am when it comes to the smallest of detail. I love the custom ring we designed and we constantly get compliments. We're now working with them on wedding bands and I can't imagine working with a different Jeweler. I would recommend to anyone! I was recommended this place from a friend at my office, he had just got engaged and had a great outcome from Steve Quick. I came in with a design in mind and not knowing much about diamonds, cuts, clarity or anything to that nature. The help there was beyond my expectations, which was hard to meet because this was a moment I was planning for 8 months prior to coming there. I had an engagement ring created there, throughout the process they were always so helpful and honest which I appreciated. I also brought my fiances dad over there to show him a wax molding of the ring before giving the green light to move forward. Having him involved in the process was so unique and rewarding to me. I love the staff at this jewelry boutique. They are attentive and really listen to what you want, give an honest opinion about items you are considering, and are very knowledgable. I have a really difficult time believing the negative reviews here, in fact I don't, really. I have never encountered a staff member with a bad attitude. I have been a loyal, faithful, repeat customer for a few years. Their prices are very fair, and I love the selection. My favorite part is their custom work. I have not found any jeweler who is the least bit willing to take on custom work or repair work like Steve Quick is, from something simple to something creative. I have been completely thrilled with everything I have purchased from them and that my husband has bought for me. I have had many repairs done, and a number of custom items created: changing out earring backs, finding a chain to go with a pendant, creating a custom ring, you name it. My husband and I both had our wedding bands re-worked, mine with significant changes to add additional diamonds the whole length around. I am amazed at what they can do, the results were wonderful. I price shopped these custom items, and felt their prices were very fair. I am a very loyal and happy customer, and have a really hard time believing the negative reviews here. I would recommend them to my best friend or sibling when they are looking for an engagement ring or any fine jewelry item. I had heard good reviews about these guys, then when I brought my engagement ring there to have it appraised, they told me they would need to keep it in-house for 1 to 2 weeks (yes, WEEKS!!! I clarified!!!). I told the sales woman that I'd always been told not to let the stone out of site and that I knew it wouldn't take that long to complete, and she acted as if I didn't know what I was talking about. The, she had the audacity to start knocking the ring and talk to me about trading it in! They acted like I had no clue what I was doing, and while it was completely wrong about me, maybe it is a reflection of what she expects from their clientelle. more

My husband I used SQJ when we got married. I had my grandmother?s engagement ring, but I wasn?t sure I wanted to use it. It had been stashed in a box for a long time, needed to be cleaned up?and I thought I might want a new ring from my fiance. We went to SQJ on a friend?s recommendation, and we were thrilled. Not only did they clean up my ring beautifully, but actually encouraged me to use it. They could have easily led us to buy a new ring but appreciated, perhaps better than I did at the time, the classic, antique beauty of this heirloom. We bought our wedding rings there, and again they did not push us towards larger diamonds for my eternity band and worked with my husband to find the band he loves. He?s never worn jewelry and loves his ring. We?ll be married 5 years in February of 09 and we love our rings. We don?t buy jewelry often (we?re more into taking great vacations) but when we do, SQJ is the only place we go. more

My husband and I used Steve Quick Jeweler to design and create our wedding bands. We had a unique vision for our bands, not only did we want to use a family heirloom gold coin for our metal, but we wanted to design our bands from a painting. We also envisioned having the design of our bands flow from one ring to the other, almost having them fit together like a puzzle. We were nervous that we wouldn't be able to communicate our ideas clearly, and while we had the painting to illustrate our thoughts, it was important that whomever we worked with truly understood our vision. We began the creative process with Patty, who immediately ""got it."" She gave us complete confidence in choosing Steve Quick Jeweler. She openly shared our enthusiasm about the design and helped us make key decisions in the process. Patty was professional, a good listener, and sincere in her determination to achieve our vision. The process of designing two wedding bands can be expensive and it was refreshing that Patty didn't assume anything about our price range. She was up front and let us lead the way with our financial comfort level. Throughout the process (we were in Steve Quick about 8-10 times) we also worked with Dana and Steve. Considering that we started with Patty, we were so impressed with the communication between staff/owner about our project. Dana picked up right where Patty left off with the same professionalism and enthusiasm. She was a pleasure to work with. We enjoyed her relaxed personality, yet appreciated her extreme attention to detail and promptness. Steve finished off the process which was appropriate; his love for what he does is evident and made such a warm impression. We had such a great time designing our rings. The process was just as exciting as the finished product - and they are GORGEOUS. I recently took my engagement ring to get appraised. They were friendly and did the appraisal in a timely manner. I took a quick look in the store while I was waiting and saw some beautiful pieces of jewelry. I would recommend this jeweler. more

My fiance and I went here when we got engaged. My brother and sister-in-law and my cousin all went here for their wedding jewelry and they referred us. We were warmly greeted, offered coffee and snacks, and had a wonderful first experience with our salesperson. Due to problems with the manufacturer, my ring was delayed (my fiance received his quickly) and they were quite apologetic. They gave us a gift card to a nearby restaurant as a gesture of apology (though that wasn't needed at all!) The delay had nothing to do with Steve Quick, it was the designer on the other end of things. I got the ring and it was beautiful! We've been in several times since to look at bands and other jewelry and each time we are met with the same customer service. This place has vintage and modern jewelry, lots of gemstones and diamonds. I will always buy my ""real"" jewelry from here...thanks Steve Quick! My fiance and I purchased our engagement and wedding rings from Steve Quick Jewelers. Actually, my fiance went in there w/ a crumpled up magazine clipping I had given to him a long time ago as a suggestion. He also intended to walk out of the store that day w/ the ring! Steve Quick Jeweler was able to help him. They were and still are very helpful. The quality of their diamonds is amazing. My ring is unique and beautiful. I work w/ my hands and my ring gets scuffed up pretty regularly. They are always happy to polish it up for me. I will always refer anyone looking for jewelery to Steve Quick Jewelers. I lost a family diamond and thank God it was insured. (tho I'd rather have my grandmother's stone). When I got the insurance check, my mother gave me a diamond ring made out of my maternal grandmother's wedding ring. We always hated the ring that was made from the diamonds, and I brought the ring to Steve Quick. Patti was so helpful and has such good taste, we made a necklace and earrings from the diamonds in the ugly ring. I have fabulous diamond hoops that were custom made. Patti also found an adorable setting for diamond stud earrings I had and she also made some other items for me from some of my stones. And, I saved money because I got credit for the gold of the ""old"" jewelry. Work is beautifully executed and completed in a timely manner. Worst craftsmanship possible! I took my engagement ring to be sized down and the craftsmanship was awful: they sized the ring perfectly, but did not use the proper heat or technique to solder the ring back together and the band split a few weeks later. I went back to have it fixed, which they did for free (the customer service is great), but my ring split AGAIN within a week after the 2nd round of repairs. I ended up having to ship the ring to the west coast jeweler who originally made my ring to have it repaired by someone who knows what they are doing. But now because the band had to be repaired so many times as a result of the poor crafstmanship at Steve Quick the band is thin and weak. Eventually my engagement ring will need to be completely re-cast.. Extremely dissappointing. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Poor craftsmanship more

I live in New York and my girlfriend lives in Chicago. When we first talked about getting engaged, I had planned on looking for rings in NYC. My girlfriend lives in Lincoln Park and said that she had found this great jewelry boutique where she liked the jewelry and the people... So the next time I was in town, she took me to Steve Quick and showed me the styles she liked. They were so helpful, they made a ""wishlist"" of the rings, her finger size and the shape of diamond she loved - a radiant. What could be easier? The only thing I was worried about was that Steve Quick Jeweler would not be price competitive with what I could get on 47th St. I did some homework in New York - priced out diamonds, decided on my 4 ""C's"", my budget and then gave SQJ a few days notice that I would be in town. It turns out that they had the patented Radiant Cut diamonds as well as non-patented and their prices were competitive! Not to mention they were a lot less shady than the people I had met on 47th St. The day I came into the store, I was shown 4 stones that were all beautiful and was able to pick one that I thought would be right for my girl. I picked from one of the rings she liked, placed the order and about a month later, as promised, the ring was shipped to my apt in New York and perfect for my NYC carriage ride propsal. I can't thank SQJ enough for making this whole process so easy. But I must appoligize, my fiance must drive them crazy, I think she stops by almost every day to have them steam clean the ring. I bought the most beautiful ring at Steve Quick jewelers a couple of months ago from Melissa and I just love it. I recieved exactly what I had asked for and more. Melissa really listened to what I wanted. She found the stone I was looking for in a timely manner also helping me with the cut and clarity. She seemed to know exactly what I was thinking with regards to this piece of jewlery. I will continue to use Steve Quick jewelers again and again. more

When my grandmother died I inherited her wedding set?2 eternity bands set in platinum and a center ring with diamonds and emeralds. For the last 3 years every time I look down at my hand I think I should be holding a gin and tonic (twist of lemon, no lime), smoking a cigarette and marrying fabulously rich men. Unfortunately (or fortunately in some regards) that is not my life and when it comes to my jewelry I am a B-E-A-S-T. more

Although I frequently use online reviews, I?ve never been motivated to write one until today. When I read some of the reviews below I couldn?t help but share my opinion. My fiance and I first came into SQ to look at engagement rings. We had been to several jewelry stores in Chicago, NYC and Philadelphia. We initially had no intention of buying a ring from a local jeweler, instead planning to browse in person and buy online to get the most diamond for our money. No jewelry store we went to inspired us to do otherwise. From the moment we walked into SQ, we were greeted warmly and attended to quickly. There was none of the pretention often associated with jewelry stores. Nicholas showed us diamonds in a variety of styles and price ranges, allowing us to compare differences in clarity, color, etc. Everything was spread out onto the counter so that I could try on whatever I pleased. Nicholas, and the rest of the staff, could not have been more friendly and helpful. Despite the attentiveness, we never felt pressured to buy and were allowed to act at our own pace. Needless to say, we were so pleased by the alacrity of the staff and quality of the jewelry at SQ that my engagement ring was eventually purchased there. I have now taken my ring in for service three times. Each time adjustments have been made promptly and exceptionally well. I have yet to be charged for any of these adjustments. When it came time to look at wedding rings, of course we returned to SQ. The selection more than adequate and their willingness to custom order helped us both find the perfect bands. As for the price, we found it to be very competitive with other quality, jewelry stores. Any time we have expressed budget concerns, Nicholas has always provided us with alternatives to lower the price while still retaining the quality of item we desire. I have never found him, or any of the other staff members at SQ, to be anything but accommodating and kind. I always look forward to stopping by. This place is outstanding. They are helpful, friendly and honest. Everytime I am in there they treat me like family. Anytime someone I know is in the market for jewelry I suggest Steve Quick Jeweler. They have not let me down, nor anyone that I have sent in. It's beautiful work done in a timely fashion. I've gotten everything from my engagement ring to earrings to cuff links there and everytime they have gone above and beyond what I have seen anywhere else! This place is the best!!! more

O.K. They are the only chicago jewler who carries the branded radiant diamonds. I wanted a branded radiant & set out to check this place out. They were more than gracious in that they ordered in a dozen diamonds for me to see..no pressure. After several visits I settled on a diamond I loved. I found the price fair for the market for branded radiants. My diamond was set in a custom setting and they were more than cool w/getting me my completed custom ring asap as my timeline was very short (1 month start to finish). After taking delivery of the ring, we required it to be re-sized as my wife seems to be shrinking...but they resized the ring no-charge & in a timely fashion (2 days). I am very disappointed with the service that I received at Steve Quick Jewelers. I brought my heirloom engagement ring in for a size increase and have had to return it 3 times for obvious defects in the repair. It feels terrible to have them treat my new ring with disprespect. They have acted rudely during my several visits, belittling my ring because I am not a high stakes customer. The repair was overpriced ($50 instead of the standard $15). It has been 1 month since I initially brought in the ring and they have not yet completed the basic repair to my satisfaction. I cannot voice my complaint loud enough.
