I heart Starr House 2/14/2008

In honor of Valentine's Day I figured that I should write a review of my love-ly hair salon, Starr House. I have been a client since fall 2006 and I have received excellent hair cuts from Albert, color from Andrea, and waxing by Karen since my first visit. The salon staff is extremely professional and visiting is always an enjoyable experience. I appreciate that each member of their team really asks me how I'm enjoying my cut and color. They provide honest feedback about what they think looks good. I feel like they have my best interest at heart. Also, they have been really good at helping me to grow out my hair for my upcoming wedding. Albert has done a fabulous job of jazzing up my growing out hair with awesome layers which don't scream ""I'm growing out my hair!"" Every time I get it cut there it manages to look modern, cute, and yet still not get too much shorter (which is what I'm aiming for right now, at least!) Pros: Tip: join their email mailing list to receive cool offers and the occasional discount on services! more

Not bad, but not great either 10/19/2007

I saw Andrea for highlights (the color was pretty nice, but nothing exceptional) and the next morning I woke up to find my new hair had dyed my pillowcase purple! I don't know what that means, but for the price and the reputation of this salon I found it disappointing and unprofessional. However, on the bright side, I also saw Chris for a cut, which was fantastic, and Karen (at the front desk) was very helpful and friendly. Pros: Good haircut, friendly phone service, easy parking Cons: Color not worth the high cost more

Congratulations! 10/11/2007

I am very pleased to see that StarrHouse has made the ""Best of Pasadena"" list, again! I've been going there for 2 years and have never been dissappointed by my Chris or Andrea. My hair is very thick and straight and course and used to be unmanageable except for ponytails, but Chris gives me wavy hair with only a blowdryer! I want to keep him in a little drawer in my vanity to do it every day. Very Sincere Congratulations! more

Are you kidding?? 10/10/2007

I seriously think the employees write these reviews - or the owners pay college students to do it. Andrea did my color and it was not even close to what I wanted. I was assured that I would get a soft natural blonde (I am naturally dishwater blonde) so not such a stretch. I walked out of there with a greenish hue to my hair. When I complained, she had the nerve to tell me I just wasn't used to it. Chris should be re-named Edward Scissor Hands. My layers are uneven and choppy. He took much more length off than I wanted. I had to go somewhere else to get my hair fixed. The colorist there said he'd never seen such a botched job - cut and color. UGGGGHHH!! I'm amazed this place is still open. Cons: ALL more

Had a marvelous experience 9/28/2007

I bought a gift cert at a local aution and was pleasantly surprized when I turned up at this up beat salon in San Marino. They were all so nice, from my greeting by the lady at the desk who had me fill out a detailed consultation form, the assistant, then Andrea and Chris who did a remarkable job on my color and cut. I left with a spring in my step and some referral cards for my friends who are now desperate to go. Thanks guys. And the firemen got the proceeds from the auction too! andrea is rude and thinks that she is too good for certain custimers by implying that she was a little more expensive and handed me to another stylist! never going back again .... i think this place is overated more

Praise for The Hair Godess! 8/17/2007

Connie. Connie. Connie. What more is there to say? Well plenty if you ask me! I was recently introduced to Connie by a coworker that has had fabulous hair the entire time I have known her. I got an appointment with ease the same week that I called and booked a haircut and highlights. Not only did Connie take my color from average to WOW! she put me on a hair weight loss program with her talented razor cutting. My hair is no longer the bulky mass it used to be and has caramel and butterscotch tones without being brassy! She is genuine and down to earth. And to paraphrase LZ a ""whole lotta love"". Awesome talent 6/27/2007

I look forward to every appointment made at the Starr House. I have been highly satisfied by the cuts that I get from Christina. I let her know what length I want and I consistently leave with the look I had envisioned. She is also great at recommending what might look better with your features. Cristina knows hair!!!! 6/27/2007

I have been going to the star house even before it became the starr house. I have always gone there because Cristina was there. The first time i had gone there and she did my hair I never went anywhere else. i have recently moved to san diego and i still make appointments with cristina. i will not go anywhere else to get my hair done. She always listens to my concerns about my hair and helps me with any issues i have with my hair. there is always a product that she recommends to me if she thinks it will help me. And every product that she has ever recommended has worked beautifully with my hair. she is my hair savior. I would strongly recommend that you go to cristina because she knows hair.... more

I have been coming here for the last few years and I have never had a bad experience. I get my hair cut by Christina and she does a wonderful job each time. She takes her time to listen to exactly what you need and she brings it! The setting is very laid-back and comfy, while still maintaining its class. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel 100% sure that they will leave with exactly the look they want! :) more

Great style, great service! 6/21/2007

I've been going to Starr House since they became Starr House.. It's fun, bright, and I always get exceptional service!! Christina does my cut, color, and hilights! She's amazing and talented! I've never had a bad experience with her. She listens when I describe what I want and is always ready with suggestions or ideas for those times that I have absolutely no clue! While I process, I'm offered coffee and an array of magazines to chose from. Christina gives an amazing shampoo and a fabulous blowout... She doesn't rush you out of her chair. It's best to make sure that you have an appointment though so that you get that quality time. I always leave Christina feeling beautiful as well as relaxed... I have been going to Starr House for 2 years. I see Andrea for highlights and Chris for my style and cut. My hair has never looked better. They both always spend the right amount of time with me, listen to my comments and questions and also provide their own professional insight. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Karen is always helpful with products, makeup, brows etc.. It is a bright, cheery, down to earth salon. Weekends seem busy, I prefer going during the week. It would be difficult if not impossible to find comparable experience or skill in this part of town."" more

Professional service; highly recommended 4/30/2007

Having been a regular Starr House patron for quite some time, I had to write in and share my experience: Andrea is simply fabulous! Her color compliments the client's skin tone and looks natural. It also grows out really well without any obvious ""lines."" Chris' cutting is always creative and fun, and he indeed listens to his clients' requests. It's not cheap, but you're definitely worth the investment and you get what you pay for! A visit to Starr House will guarantee that you will walk out looking your best. LOVED IT!!!! 3/22/2007

I heard about Starr House from people in my office so I thought I would give it a shot as I have been driving to the West Side and Starr House is a lot cheaper than what I have been paying. I made and appointment for color and cut. I brought pictures and talked to my colorist and cutter about what I wanted. They both made suggestions and in the end gave me exactly what I wanted. I loved it and will be back. more

Expensive and Not Worth It 3/17/2007

First of all, this place is crazy expensive. They charge Beverly Hills prices. I wouldn't mind if the service was good. It's not. I got the most bizarre haircut from Chris. He basically turned my long straight hair into a mullet. Then Andrea overhighlited my brown hair, giving it brassy, banana colored streaks. WTH? The salon is really dark. Maybe they can't see? I'm ticked I spent the money on this place. I'd have been better off at Supercuts. Cons: bad cut/hilites more

Best Salon in the SG Valley; Top quality staff 3/15/2007

I decided to splurge on myself for the first time in a long time and the results are fabulous! After receiving a phone interview to determine who would best meet my needs, I knew I was in for something different. Kimberly cut my hair, Andrea did my color, and Karen waxed my brows while the foils were in my hair. Everyone is friendly and down to earth. This is a very convenient full service salon with top notch results. The results of my hair color were natural looking and beautiful; the cut is fabulous; and even the wax job was excellent!!! I have received lots of compliments on my new and improved look. It has been a few weeks now and I look forward to going back for more. I highly recommend this salon!! Pros: Top notch salon more
