Don't bother 6/8/2011

The front desk staff is friendly enough, as well as the assistants. Dr. Ross on the other hand, I can say absolutely nothing positive about. He needs to refuse to treat large breed dogs, because it is a waste of time to bring your dog there otherwise. He gets your dog all nervous and anxious by automatically wanting to muzzle your dog and then when the dog is too upset to hold still he suggests sending you home with tranquilizers to give the dog before bringing him in again. Prices are also on the high side. more

I go nowhere else! 1/26/2011

After 10s of years of pet ownership and many different vets I find Dr. Ross and the team there professional, efficient, caring and fairly priced. Nail clippings are only $5. and their base exam appt is $35, most are $50. If your looking for a discount on supplies/medications I recommend contacting the Meriden Animal Shelter. The director there is very helpful, she may save you so much money on medications that you could give them a donation. They are not a vet service, so you need to know what your need. For diagnosis and care I highly recommend Southbury Veterinary! more

Our pets (dogs and cats- 5 total) over the last 16 yrs have had the opportunity to be patients at Southbury Vet. I have never been more pleased by the entire staff!! (That includes those who work at the desk, take calls, do the website, lift and hold our animals, and clean up after them.) Dr. Ross is a kind, sensitive vet who is not only caring of each animal he treats, but also the families who are related to the pets. The rates are more than reasonable and the animals are always regarded with a high quality of care. 14 yrs. ago we very Sadly had to put down our first dog after 17 great years of life. Dr. Ross most sensitively conducted this with care, and compassion for our dog, my husband, 11 yr old daughter and myself. Within a week Dr. Ross sent us a hand written sympathy card again expressing his condolences. Never did I expect it, and knew Dr. Ross' veterinary practices are based on respect for the life of the animals he treats and their families. \r \r The staff is equa more

Love it there! 5/26/2010

Dr. Ross has been wonderful with our pets. Last December, our dog, who had addison's disease, had a crisis on a Sunday. He ultimately passed away at 24 hour critical care clinic. Upon finding out, Dr. Ross and his staff personally called us and wrote to us to express their condolences. They took wonderful care of him when he was alive. He then helped us to find a reputable organization through which to adopt our current dogs. Any time they are sick, they see them right away. They always answer all our questions and explain everything to us. We'd never go anywhere else. more

Southbury Veterinary Hospital is there when you need them* 6/24/2009

A week after adopting my puppy Dallas, we awoke on a Saturday morning to him being extremely sick. I called Southbury Veterinary Hospital in a panic and they got me right in. They treated my puppy the same way I do, with compassion for the fact that he is a living breathing thing. They are very prompt, so that 3 week comment is Bull lady. I even called today (wed.) to make an appt for Friday and there was no difficulty. I'm definitely a fan! more

Over priced and under cared for! 6/10/2009

I have had my kitten cared for by Dr. Ross with no problems until I found out that he charges over $200 for spaying (which is $50 more than my local vet in Naugatuck) and that they DO NOT provide pain meds for cats. I was told cats don't need it. I'm curious why the other vet includes pain meds in the price if they are not needed! Sounds awful and not very caring to me. I won't be going back to Dr. Ross. more

We love Dr. Ross! 5/20/2009

Years ago, when we first moved to town, our cat got into a fight and had a huge cut on his back leg. We went to our regular vet in Middlebury who told us that since we didn't have an appt. he wouldn't see us. \r In desperation we drove to Dr. Ross's. His kids were in the car, they were on their way to VACATION. Dr. Ross looked at us, looked at the cat, unlocked the door to his clinic and took the cat. And fixed him up. He delayed his vacation for our cat!\r We have gone to Dr. Ross ever since. more

Excellent Vet! 3/9/2009

Between my husband, myself, and my in-laws, Dr. Ross has treated many, many of our pets over the years. I have had pets for at least 40 years and have been to veterinarians all across the country. There is no one better in the Southbury area!\r Susanne C. more

Great Doctor 1/6/2009

Great place and great people Beth C stop trying to ruin their buisness it seems like you are the opposing vet in the area trying to boost your clientle not going to happen cause Dr Ross's clients are Loyal!!!! more

Always happy here 7/14/2007

I have brought my pets to Dr. Ross for 12 years and always have been happy with the care they received. Staff is friendly and accomodating and I have always gotten appointments quickly. more

Fantastic! And ignore the other reviews! 2/3/2007

Ignore the other reviews. I don't believe them, I believe they are over dramatizing. Uh..Can you say drama queen? EVERYBODY in the area goes there. Can they be wrong? Doubt it. \r We have 10 cats and spend between $1500 and $2800 yearly for the past 5 years. And they don't kiss our ass because of the money we spend. We've experienced 3 other vets in various areas, this is better. Great staff, friendly and knowledgeable doctor. Pets are very well treated. The only vet we trust to leave our cat(s) overnight for several nights. One cat has kidney failure. With help from the dr and staff, this cat is alive and NOT uncomfortable....for the last 2.5 years! Also, they did not take advantage, money-wise, in a terminal situation.\r In the other reviews, the 3 week wait is BS. We get in that day or the next (even before they know it's US calling) in urgent situations and in some cases for regular appts.\r It's nice to see the same staff there. more

GO ANYWHERE ELSE 9/13/2006

I was interested to see the other negative reviews for this place. I took my 4 year old cat there about 4 years ago. He was very bloated and lethargic. The vet gave my other cat shots, but said he'd wait until my bloated cat was feeling better. He examined him and said he was probably just sick. I knew something was not right and took him to another new vet in town. He was not feeling well, he had cancer and had only a few days to live. Luckily I was smart enough to bring him to another vet and have the proper tests run to diagnose him so he could be put to sleep a few days later without suffering. My father, who is a doctor, later told me he new something was seriosly wrong from my description over the phone to him. On another note, when my father took our dog there when I was younger, the vet actual gave my father a shot and missed the dog... more

poor phone manner 11/29/2005

I called to make an appointment and was instantly put on hold and disconnected. After calling back I was put on hold again and did not get a live person for about 10 minutes. When I tried to make an appointment, I was told that the earliest one would be in 3 weeks for a sick puppy! Needless to say I went elsewhere. more

Do not expect too much when going here... 9/1/2005

This office has a great convient location but was overbooked and the staff were wondering around as if they had no clue what they should be doing. The female DR was nice but gave no answers to my pets problem. Lack diagnostic abilities. more
