Editorial review from Citysearch 10/11/2012

Dr. John Cheng is something very rare these days. He is a doctor who actually cares about his patients & follows up to make sure all is well. He takes a practical approach and his diagnostic skills are excellent. I have been his patient for several years and would highly recommend him to everyone. more

Amazingness! 9/19/2011

Most of my life I've been quite ill....from the time I was 14 years old I have been diagnosed with quite a few medical issues. I'm 31 now...that's 17 years of experience with a plethora of gynecologists, internal specialists, nurses, orthopedic surgeons, and the list goes on....I would say that makes me more than a professional in evaluating the actual care of a Medical Doctor. I'm here to say that Dr. O'Connor is the most caring, through doctor I've ever come across. She spends an ample amount of time with me each & every visit and thoroughly examines my situation each & every time. I couldn't be happier with a Dr. and I highly recommend her, not only for your physical health but for your peace of mind in knowing you are in good hands. \r Oh AND the wait is never over 15 mins, you never need an appointment & the rest of the staff is friendly and very helpful! :) more

Great Doctors! 6/24/2011

My family and I have used this clinic for years with great results. I also utilize this clinic as our occupational medicine clinic for the employer where I manage this function. This is the first clinic in my 20+ career I use the same clinic for my personal health needs and for our occ med clinic. The doctors are great and you always get to see doctor. While can't say I've taken my own advice, its a good practice to check out what urgent care clinics in your area your insurance actually covers in advance of actually needing the service. At the end of the day the insurance company makes that determination and should the entity for directing any disputes to. more

Worst Experience Ever - Do NOT trust them 4/28/2011

Worst Experience Ever! I went to South Coast Medical Group with an injury and had them verify my insurance to make sure I was covered (I had a broken foot). They stated that my insurance did cover the care. \r \r Later I received a bill stating I wasn't covered at all. I contacted them immediately (this was in 2008) I left multiple messages for Johnna Gherardini, but she never returned any of my calls. \r \r I worked with Peggy their accounting person (very nice) to try to resolve all this and it went back and forth until they were sending me to collections. It's now 2011.\r \r I contacted the Johnna Gheradini to try to resolve the problem. This woman is the most arrogant, non customer servicer oriented person ever. She wouldn't even listen to my full story nor hear all the facts. I asked to escalate this higher and she proudly and arrogantly told me ""you've reached the top"".\r \r If you want extremely bad customer service especially from the ""TOP"" this is the place to go. Be sure to not trust the front desk or the ""TOP"". more

Best Family Practice in the County 2/3/2011

South Coast Medical Group is a great family practice. Dr. O’Connor and Dr. Rose are awesome female physicians who manage my daughter and I’s health issues. Dr. Tran and Dr. Cheng are great too! In fact Dr. Cheng has helped us manage my daughter’s ADD which has made a huge difference in her life. I’m a single mom, my work schedule changes all the time and I have the convenience of just walking in 7 days a week. The wait is not long considering we are walking in. I’ve made appointments at other offices and had to wait sometimes over an hour. Most of the time I’m seen in 20 minutes but occasionally they are busy and I may wait longer but it’s ok. These docs are good docs and you couldn’t ask for better quality care. more

Love this clinic! 12/29/2010

This is a walk-in clinic, so there is never the hassle of waiting for an appointment. That being said, sometimes the wait can be longer than other times, but in general it has been fine. I've always felt like they've given me the very best care. Today I left a message for the doctor and was called back within the hour. I highly recommend this clinic. more

The office staff is giving itself 5 star reviews 9/26/2010

The ones who are giving this place a five star review are the office staff themselves.\r \r This place is the worst.\r \r Only go here if you want to get sick and die.\r \r The doctor prescribed a medication that made me break out in hives. This place is bad news. more

GREAT local resource 9/20/2010

My family and I have been using South Coast Medical group for many years. They have been outstanding in making us feel like a priority. I especially like their flexible hours. I've gone in to the office for a cold, sleeping problems, nutritional counseling and my yearly exams. The staff is always attentive and knowledgeable. I can do lab work and sometimes get perscriptions all in one visit. It is wonderful to have such a valuable resource, right around the corner! I highly reccomend this group. more

Great Experience! 9/20/2010

I visited South Coast Medical Group in June 2010 and had a VERY pleasant experience starting with the receptionist moving forward to the nurse and physician. I was seen in a prompt manner and this office doesn’t even schedule appointments for sick visits. In the past, I have had scheduled appointments with other physician’s offices and had to wait twice as long. So this was a nice surprise!! The nurses were very competent and understanding. The physician was very knowledgeable with GREAT follow up. I would recommend this office to anyone. more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! 9/7/2010

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Unless you want to wait a very long time for poor service.\r This medical office is very poorly organized. There is supposed to be a system where people sign in, and are taken in turn. However, the staff does not adhere to that system. They will let their favorites go ahead of you in line. You will wait for a very long time. The only Doctor that is any good at this office is Dr. Cheng, but you will have to wait even longer to see him. Any of the other doctors, I would be very suspect of where they got their medical degrees. On a previous visit, after waiting two hours, the doctor told me that he could not look into the problem I was having with my arm, because they had to pick up their kid from the babysitter, and he left. Again, only go to this office if you want to wait a long time for very poor service.\r more

Dr. Tran Saved My Life, the best experience you could ask fo 8/11/2010

In 2006, I experience some pain in my right breast, I thought nothing of it but saw Dr. Tran anyhow, he insisted on a diagnostic Mamogram even though I was only 46 years old, I couldn't feel any lumps nor could he, but he must have had a feeling, so I had the mamogram and sure enough there it was a tumor had grown enough to have started to spread it was growing as they say fingers and spreading it was ductal carcinoma. Stage one, he sent me to DR Lisa Curcio and I am now a 4 year Breast cancer Survivor, Thank you so much to DR .Tran for SAVING MY LIFE and DR Cheng and his WONDERFUL STAFF always friendly and caring, all follow ups are looked forward to seeing the staff and all the beauiful smiling faces GO GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!\r OOXX\r Malinda Reinhardt more

Worst sevice I have ever received from a Medical Office 7/23/2010

On the 21st of June I walked into this office due to an infection. They don't take appointments so you have no choice but to just show up and wait. I was not seen by a doctor but by a Physicians Assistant. OK, I really did not have a major problem with that since it was such a minor problem. She ran some tests on site and indicated that there was something showing up but it did not look serious enough to prescribe any medication and she wanted to run some more tests to find out more. This was on a Monday and she told me I would hear from them on Friday. The next Monday I had not heard from them so I called and asked about my test results. I was informed that they had not come back. At this point my infection was getting better on its own so I kinda forgot about it. 5 weeks later I get notification from my Insurance Co that they had paid the bill. Wait a minute, I never got the results. I tried calling several times and only got voice mail, so I went in. I was told that the PA had decided that I did not need any more tests and nothing was sent in. Why did they not call me. Why did they not tell me when I called a week later. So I asked if it was there policy to tell the patient one thing and then make decisions behind there back and NOT inform them. I did not get an answer. I asked for my money back, they refused. DO NOT go to this clinic. You will be disappointed!!!! Cons: Incompetant unhelpful staff. I would give 0 stars if I could more

Worst patient care and follow up I have every recieved. 2/6/2009

I reciently had an annual physical at this office. I have never been so dissatified with the compentancy of service and follow up. I did not get a complete explaination of my test, I did not get results of some of my test, and I recieved phone calls to come in for follow up appointments for Test I did not even have there. I called to try and get my results my self and I was told that the doctor went over everything with me because that is what he had written in his notes, this is and untrue statement. Dr. Cheng will not personally call me to discuss my disatisfaction in fact he told his staff he was insulted that I question him. Well when you have a CAT scan and the doctor tells you that you have mulphal noduals on your lungs and does not explain what this count mean, just says we will have you get another CAT scan in six months. Well I went myself to the Lab and got a copy of the report and the report had alot more to say. Ovisiously Dr. Cheng did not read the complete report, it stated I have noduals on my lungs, kidneys, pancreous as well. So I had to take my well being into my own hands and go and get answers. Pros: convient location Cons: Follow up and bedside manner not at all personalized and not originazed more

Great if you're looking to not feel better! 4/14/2007

Dr. Sunshine - yes that's his real name - was very pleasant. The problem was that he was more interested in trying to get me to use home remedies or other over the counter items when I really needed antibiotics. I had an extreme infection in both ears, which I mentioned and his assistant checked, but he decided it wasn't that bad and I should use a nasal rinse and take some sudafed. Who knows what that has to do with my ears. Well, that didn't make a dent in my problem, as I am susceptible to sinust infections and decided to see a doctor before it got worse. Dr. Sunshine asked me if I smoked and then asked if I had Asthma. I told him I don't smoke and I don't have asthma. He said that only people that have issues such as mine are people who smoke or have asthma. I was floored he would insinuate I was lying. Had I been in better health I would have spoken up, but I just let it go. I went to the store (3 actually before I could find the nasal rinse he wanted me to purchase) spent a bunch of money, and purchased the myriad of items he recommended in hopes that he was right.\r \r Well, he wasn't. In fact my ear infection was so bad the next day that I couldn't even take myself to the doctor. I was in horrible pain and disoriented. The doctor I went to see was Dr. Sims of South County Family Medical - not to be confused with South Coast Medical Group. Dr Sims was fantastic. I highly recommend that facility. Pros: Office Staff Cons: Misdiagnosis, run-around more
