Editorial review from Citysearch 12/1/2013

I can't stand the way they treat the mentally ill. My therapist wasn't great at all she talked more about herself then anything. As for the group on cherry street. yeah it's a really bright idea to bunch a group of bipolar people together and the staff are not nice people they are there to collect their money they could care less about the people. more

THE PERSON WHO IS POSTING BELOW IS A CYBER BULLY AND CYBER 4/25/2012

STALKER AND HATE SPEECH AND HATE CRIME PERPETRATOR SIMILAR TO THE NEW JERSEY CASE WHERE THE RUTGERS UNIVERSITY STUDENT USING THE NAME CONSTANCE KILSUMARTI DROVE TYLOR CLEMENTE TO DEATH AND MEGAN TO DEATH IN SPRINGFIELD. Definition The term ""cyberbullying"" was first coined and defined by Canadian educator and anti-bullying activist Bill Belsey, as ""the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others.""[1] Cyberbullying has subsequently been defined as ""when the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person"".[2] Other researchers use similar language to describe the phenomenon.[3][4] Cyberbullying can be as simple as continuing to send e-mail to someone who has said they want no further contact with the sender, but it may also include threats, sexual remarks, pejorative labels (i.e., hate speech), ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule in forums, and posting false statements as fact aimed at humiliation. Cyberbullies may disclose victims' personal data (e.g. real name, address, or workplace/schools) at websites or forums or may pose as the identity of a victim for the purpose of publishing material in their name that defames or ridicules them. Some cyber-bullies may also send threatening and harassing emails and instant messages to the victims, while other post rumors or gossip and instigate others to dislike and gang up on the target. Kids report being mean to each other online beginning as young as 2nd grade. According to research, boys initiate mean online activity earlier than girls do. However, by middle school, girls are more likely to engage in cyberbullying than boys do.[5] Whether the bully is male or female, their purpose is to intentionally embarrass others, harass, intimidate, or make threats online to one another. This bullying occurs via email, text messaging, posts to blogs, and Web sites. Though the use of sexual remarks and threats are sometimes present in cyberbullying, it is not the same as sexual harassment and does not necessarily involve sexual predators. Cyberbullying vs. cyberstalking The practice of cyberbullying is not limited to children and, while the behavior is identified by the same definition in adults, the distinction in age groups is sometimes referred to as cyberstalking or cyberharassment when perpetrated by adults toward adults, sometimes directed on the basis of sex. Common tactics used by cyberstalkers are to vandalize a search engine or encyclopedia, to threaten a victim's earnings, employment, reputation, or safety. A repeated pattern of such actions against a target by an adult constitutes cyberstalking. more

Better Places to work 8/25/2011

As a former employee of South Bay Mental Health in Brockton I found several things to be very frustrating. First I too was told that there would be plenty of referrals. I was also told that they would try to keep me in the Abington/ Rockland area and maybe have some cases in Brockton. However this was not true... Most of my cases were in Brockton and I didnt mind so much because I loved my patients. \r Secondly supervision meetings were extremely frustrating for a number of different reasons. Having no experience with Early Intervention other than working with them in the childcare settings that I worked, I felt as though I was just thrown to the wolves. We were supposed to schedule our own intakes, assesments and set up times to do the IFSPS. Setting up intakes was frustrating because I had to spend numerous hours trying to find people to go on intakes with me. Then there were times when people had to cancel or they just were not there when we showed up. Some how the company always puts the blame on their clinicians for the number of no shows/ cancellations. Supervision meetings consisted of having a talk with parents about no shows/ cancellations and to me that was extremely wrong. I to would work ten hours and also only receive pay for two. I was extremely frustrated at the fact that we were not paid for supervision meetings or trainings. I think everyone who works for this company works hard. I think that this company survives off of the sweat of its workers. There were days that I went in at 8:00 and came home by 6;00 or 7:00 and was only paid for two hours. I also did not feel supported in any way by this company... However I do miss my clients as well as the great clinicians that I had the chance to work with. \r Oh and by the way I was told on my last day that I was being let go due to the number of ""no shows/ cancellations"" really as if I had any control over this. I worked hard, kept in touch with my clients and most of the time the no shows/cancellations were NOT MINE!!! more

Unethical for patients and employees 4/12/2011

I am writing this for any therapists out there who may be doing a search on South Bay Mental Health Reviews. There used to be quite a few valid and negative ones on a site called Job Vent that have been deleted.\r \r Turnover rate is very high at this company. Clients often commented to me that I was their third or fourth counselor. Therapists are often just out of school and given cases way beyond their limited experience. Supervision is given in group form once a week (which you are not paid for) and once a week (which you are not paid for). Individual supervision usually consists of how many clients you have and how to market yourself and skimps on how to manage and help those clients. Some clients should be referred to a higher level of care, however this company is reluctant to do so, as they lose some money.\r \r Therapists are encouraged to do paperwork while in session with clients, as you are not paid for any time not face-to-face with a client. If your client does not show up, you are out of luck. If you don't meet a quota, you lose your health insurance. I was poorer than some of my clients while working here. I was also new to the area and told to go out and market myself to find new clients. I asked specifically in the interview if there were enough referrals, which I was told there were. I was not lazy- I worked 10 hour days driving around and would be paid for about 2 of those hours due to no shows and the paperwork load.\r \r Some referrals need medication management, but will be unable to see the psychiatrist for 6-8 weeks after being in treatment with you- it is extremely frustrating to see people who need evaluations and medication told they need to see you for a month before they can even make an appointment with the doctor. \r \r Is there any good? I had some wonderful coworkers who were very supportive, and they do have a mentor who helps you in your first few weeks. There is an emphasis on safety and they do pre-screen clients to not put a therapist in harm's way, but it's not a perfect system (please tell your supervisor if you are uncomfortable in a home in anyway- they will not make you go there). Therapists do care about their clients and try their best to help. If you have a ""salesperson"" mentality and can market yourself, you might to quite well at this job.\r \r I personally wanted to be a therapist and did not feel supported by the company and would not recommend working here. more

I could have gone to the vet and had better treatment 3/7/2011

As a frequent flyer of the mental health system, I found South Bay to have less than acceptable services. My therapist was nice but frequently completed her paperwork during the session which I found distracting and unprofessional. I suffer from Bipolar Disorder and wound up in a full blown manic episode because I couldn't see the psychiatrist when I needed to. I could have just had my medication increased but instead I wound up in the psych ward because I thought I could fly. How much training do the clinicians get if I was talking about flying from my third story window and no one had me seen by the psychiatrist??? Luckily the police found me hanging out of the window and brought me to the psych ward. Word of caution- Don't use South Bay Mental Health, go to your local vet instead. more

Unethical 8/2/2010

Please read this before you work for, or receive services from, South Bay. Counselors are poorly treated and the turnover rate is almost 100%. Clients have to see one therapist after another because everyone keeps leaving or gets fired. Do you know why counselors spend your sessions doing paperwork? Because they don't get paid outside of the session. That means if you are approved for 12 sessions, you can count on at least 4 being solely about paperwork and most of the other sessions as well. SBMHC keeps pumping out new clinicians as they graduate from nearby schools. Counselors are fee for service, so they don't even make minimum wage for the first several months. No one wants to refer to them because client care is so poor. The disadvantaged have to use them because there are few, if any, viable options for them. Hmmm...someone is getting rich by taking advantage of the disadvanted. Pros: Caring, well-meaning counselors Cons: unethical, takes advantage of staff and clients more

Worst experience in 20+ yrs 10/2/2009

I've received care for over 20 yrs for depression and went to SBMH because insurance covered it. This has been the *worst* experience I have ever had. My therapists were fine, but newly out of school and were not therapeutically supervised (met w/ a supervisor 1x a week to discuss productivity, it would seem rather than particular issues of clients). I was told that in order to see a prescriber, I needed to be in therapy a month. After that month, they would not submit a referral until I obtained prior psychiatric records. When I faxed them in, the supervisor didn't tell my therapist to file them in my file, so they got ""lost"". After 4 months, I finally got into see a doc, who is there only 1x a month. He had not reviewed my prior records (they weren't in the file) and then insinuated that I had not sent them in. The supervisor did locate my paperwork, and when it was in the file, the doc still didn't look at it. Meanwhile, my depression worsened while I didn't get the medical support I needed (it is very controllable with BOTH therapy and medication) and I needlessly went through a lot of pain and aggravation. Whenever I told anyone I had SBMH for a provider, I was reassured they are considered ""bottom of the barrel"" in terms of service, at least from the Weymouth office. I would NOT recommend this agency to ANYONE. Pros: Will do therapy in yr home Cons: Disorganized, MDs only in office 1x a month, etc. etc. more

Management has a lot to be desired 4/4/2009

Therapits are okay. Overworked so sometimes they run late. Compassionate, caring and professional. Pay attention and don't try to control the situation, listen to your therapist and you will be fine. You will be lucky if you get Keri as you therapist. Pros: If you get a good therapist your set Cons: Sometimes therapists run late more

Amazing Group of People 11/20/2008

Once you get your child's name through the in-processing phase, they are the BEST. The counselors we have had experience with have been a perfect match for our children and each time they have worked with both my husband and I to get the best possible care for the kids. They do arts and crafts, play games, and even take the child for a walk around the block to talk to them. I love that they see the environment that your child lives in because they can see home life as it is in your home. You will never be disappointed, we love them! And they take most health insurance too. Pros: Counselors work around your schedule and love children. Cons: The intake process is frustrating and the people taking your info can be rude. more
