Please read this before you work for, or receive services from, South Bay. Counselors are poorly treated and the turnover rate is almost 100%. Clients have to see one therapist after another because everyone keeps leaving or gets fired. Do you know why counselors spend your sessions doing paperwork? Because they don't get paid outside of the session. That means if you are approved for 12 sessions, you can count on at least 4 being solely about paperwork and most of the other sessions as well. SBMHC keeps pumping out new clinicians as they graduate from nearby schools. Counselors are fee for service, so they don't even make minimum wage for the first several months. No one wants to refer to them because client care is so poor. The disadvantaged have to use them because there are few, if any, viable options for them. Hmmm...someone is getting rich by taking advantage of the disadvanted. Pros: Caring, well-meaning counselors Cons: unethical, takes advantage of staff and clients
