Editorial review from Citysearch 1/19/2013

I hated working at the NLC. The patients were amazing and their stories were great but working for Scott and Karin is horrible. Scott speaks to his employees with this power over them. Like he is better than you. He micro manages everything everybody does which makes it hard to get through the day. Karin-his wife aka ""office manager"" is even more difficult to work with. I am not sure how she calls herself the office manager when she barely knows anything about the office and how it runs. They were so understaffed that she had to come and work a few hours a day. But working is not what she did. She came in with their 2 year old son. Expected patients or staff to watch him while she did whatever she did. We did not have enough time to use the restroom so we defnately didnt have time to watch her child. She was never helpful. She is rude and degrading and she is running Scotts business to the ground. I feel bad for anyone that starts working there. Since i was fired 2 weeks ago with absolutely no warning or reason why. i know they have bunch of untrained staff in there and it is complete chaos. I feel so bad for the patients. They get used to the staff and they trust the staff than Karin decides they are going to be fired than the patients have to deal with all the new faces that have no clue what they are doing.\r Scott does amazing things with people health-but i would much rather find someone that can do the same thing in a better environment. Its not a fun place to work and I hope they learn their lesson. They fired the best staff they ever had for WHAT?? i guess i will never know why. more

I love working at the Natural Life Center! 1/20/2012

When I joined the staff at the Natural Life Center, I did so as someone with previous personal experience and knowledge with alternative medicine. I have found Scott to be not only one of the finest professionals I have had the privilege to work for (VERY patient and encouraging), but have also witnessed firsthand his extensive knowledge and expertise in alternative medicine. I can honestly say I love my job and enjoy working in such a positive and friendly environment with co-workers who, like me, are happy to help facilitate the healing journey of Scott’s patients. I have personally seen the commitment of Scott and our office manager to meet the needs of each patient who walks through the door and much effort is put into training staff members to that end. There is nothing more rewarding than watching Scott’s patient’s health improve as we work together as a team. I, too, am the beneficiary of all of the services provided at the Natural Life Center and am very pleased with the strides I am making in my own health journey. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Natural Life Center; a great place to work and be a patient too!!! more

finally taking charge of my health... 1/20/2012

I lived in the Orangevale area for most of my life, and I must say that words cannot express how grateful I am to have found Scott Sommer and The Natural Life Center. I have been dealing with migranes and fatigue for most of my adult life, worried that normal practitioners did not have answers, or they would just give me a quick fix and send me packing (normally the case nowadays)..Of course I was skeptical at first and after doing my research and tracking Scott's many credentials... Imagine my suprise when I found out that 2 of my out-of-state relatives are already patients at the Natural Life Center!! CRAZY!\r \r Now, after being a patient for a mere 4 1/2 months, my health has taken a complete 180 turn! I would say to anyone who is genuinely seeking a natural alternative to this western-medicine madness... TRUST ME... Scott Sommer is the real deal :) more

Why their office has problems... 6/29/2011

I can tell you why you have such trouble with the staff. I used to work there..for about 5 months. Even though me and another office worker were told we were the best staff they had ever had, we were both fired or let go within months for unsubstantiated reasons. I know of other people who worked there who were also let go under questionable circumstances who had done a fantastic job. When I started working there, there was one girl who spent the whole day texting. The other was 'training' me how to do the least amount of work possible. The entire office was a mess and completely disorganized. Less then a week later, I was having to run the office by myself..and had to transfer all the medical billing information over to quickbooks..a program I had never used...on my own. Within 4 months, the office was organized, we had a very good staff and our patient list had grown by 35%...all of which I had played a huge part in making happen. But because I refused to participate in a ""religious based ritual"" at our office meetings, I was fired. I know another girl who spent almost 3 years there and did a wonderful job...she was fired when she got pregnant. So basically, they only keep you around if you do everything they say..legal or not..and you don't inconvenience them. It doesn't matter how well you do your job or how much you helped increase their business. So they tend to run through new staff very fast as no one is perfect..perfect according to their standards anyway. more

Jury is still out.... 6/6/2011

Like others have commented, there is no way to get a hold of a live person and come to think of it, the phone never rings while I'm there. One woman is excellent - probably his right hand worker who is in the room with you helping him. She's great!\r \r We have had mix ups with supplements, like others but I can understand mihaps here and there, so no biggy - everyone has bad days.\r \r I have noticed a lot of my ailments are relieved by 95% - HUGE! But I feel like the diabetic that thinks they are doing better so they get off their meds...and have issues. I'm not faithful with the supplements, and I do notice when I am not that I have issues with allergies, fatigue, and pain. Since my initial visit, the heaviness of my cycle has been relieved so greatly that it has allowed me to return normal activities without the usual 2 day bedrest I usually endure. That is a HUGE improvement in the quality of my life, all on its own. \r \r But, I do think I am on the fence about the NRT age thing, as well as whether some of the supplements are necessary or simply 'suggested'. And I do feel rushed, like others have mentoined. But, what can you say? There's only one Scott Sommer for all of the patients!\r \r Overall, I have recommended him to friends and think there's a way he can help everyone so I am remaining opitimistic. more

Scott Sommer is my Hero!!! 7/8/2010

I have been a patient of Scott Sommers for almost 3 years, and I could not be happier with my health. When I came to see Scott I was seventeen and only five months prior had been diagnosed as a type one diabetic, I was insanely depressed, taking about 7 shots of insulin a DAY, I had dropped 45 pounds in two weeks, was losing my hair, VERY intense painful cramps in my legs, feet, hands, and arms about every two hours, not only were the cramps coming during the day but also at night.... waking me at least 3-4 times each night and frequent urination anywhere from 5-12 times a night. I heard about Scott and the Natural Life Center from my mother who had been seeing Scott for a week or two and was having great results, losing weight and having more energy than ever with a list that seemed to go on and on. Needless to say I was interested right off the bat, however I had never gone to anything involving eastern medicine so I was skeptical at first, I went to one of Scotts Thursday night seminars and he gave me a mini assessment, where he told me things about my body that I or any MD could tell me.. He also told me that I was in what they call the ""honeymoon Phase"" meaning my pancreas was still creating some insulin and we had a short window of opportunity to heal it! With that said I was almost hooked, I decided to startup a program and within 3 months or working with Scott I was insulin free!!! Which I though would never be possible for me again, and once the healing started it didn’t stop, almost all of my symptoms were gone within about seven months and have not returned. Almost 3 years have passed now and I’m still feeling great, as far as I’m concerned Scott will be in my highest graces for the rest of both our lives! Thank you so much to both Scott and the NLC Staff!! I am in your debt!! :) Pros: Natural Healing, hands on staff, warm welcome enviroment! Cons: None! more

Snake oil or Real?! Some good, some bad 4/21/2010

I believe Dr. Sommers is passionate about his practice, but I am not sure that his passion is geared towards his patients or his wallet. He did discover some allergies that I wasn't aware of and once I eliminated those items from my diet two months in the program, I was at least 80% improved. We continued on the program due to his discovery of other things that I would agree has helped me feel better overall. I didn't have any servere health problems, rather just minor improvements (better digestion, acne, two achy joints) Dr. Sommers seems geniune, but his approach is questionable and he speeds people thru the office. He doesn't listen to your concerns if he is busy with other patients. If I wanted to be herded, then just go to Kaiser or other HMO system. The jury is still out on his approach, but I can say that I have had great results, better sleep, more energy, loss weight, better appearance as far as skin, eyes, etc. My biggest compliant is the horrible front desk staff. The front office team has change dramatically in the 6 months. Very rarely greeted when you arrive, missing supplements, overcharged, not charged correctly. Just plain incompetence! Most of the staff seem to be barely able to do the basics in life. Wrong supplements are given out and they lack the needed items that the doctor recommends. They do not answer the phone and when you do get a hold of someone they always say that didn't get your message.Unprofessional atomsphere up front. \r \r So my question is snake oil or real? Try for yourself, but beware of getting stuck in his system of paying hundreds of dollars every month. The phony age charts that they give you that tell you ""how old you are""There are other doctors in the Sacramento area that do the NRT program (Nutritional response treatment). Just google ""Ulan Systems"" and they will give you a list for your area. He does weekly educational classes that are free, but it seems more geared towards bringing in new customers which the office can't handle any more patients due to the disorganization. Mixed emotions towards his office. Pros: Had good medical results Cons: Horrible customer Service more

Truly cares about you well being.. 2/5/2009

I began a program with Dr. Scott because I found out I had breast cancer and was having surgery. He helped me build up my immune system to handle the surgery and continued to help me get better after surgery. I have lost weight and feel better than I have in years. His office is very busy because he is that good. He helps your body heal instead of masking the symptoms with medication. I am very happy I found him and I tell him that every time I see him. He is kind, understanding, and truly wants to help you feel better. Pros: Everything, he is wonderful Cons: Office is very busy, they need a full time person to just answer the phones more

Great way to get well. 2/2/2009

I certainly would not judge someone by who they support politically! Fortunately in the USA, we are still allowed to support who we wish. I cannot say enough about Scott. He is very intuitive and has a genuine desire to help people get well. We had some financial issues and he suggested going slower on the program, with appointments spaced apart, etc. I would suggest that his costs are less than the costs for expensive prescription medications, which may be required if your health declines. \r \r My husband and myself have both been on the program with great responses. We have lost weight, have improved sleep, decreased joint pain and less gastric distress. I would encourage you to at least try. I am giving this a 4 only because this office is not very good at returning phone calls, as they are very busy. There is often a several day delay in getting calls returned from the main number. As far as the service I have gotten, it is a 5 star. \r \r Pros: excellent practitioner, good success with our programs, Cons: very busy office secondary to good care, but needs more office staff, although office is small and unsure where they would go more

Real, Honest, Reliable, 100% Natural HELP!!! 8/6/2008

I have suffered from migraines for over 10 years, thats right, 10 years!!! I get these migraines 2-3 times per week, pretty bad huh? :( And...I'm only 22. \r \r I'm not one of those people on the commercials that you see about an amazing, must have product that works miracles in a tiny little bottle. I am a real life, non-celebrity, young woman with a whole life to lead who has serious pain issues. \r \r When I first experienced a migraine in front of Scott, literally I was being tested and it had progressed to a pretty severe one, he was shocked, but kind of excited :) In a ""hey, I get to help you right now!"" kind of way. I was throwing up every couple minutes, unable to stand, sit down, lay down or think clearly. I couldn't drink water, or take any of the supplement drops recommended by Scott. He told me to go lay on the BioMat (which combines Far-Infrared Light and negative Ions with Amethyst Crystals to promote all sorts of fun stuff like weight loss, improved skin tone, pain relief!! ok ok lets stick to my story here) and stay there for a few minutes while he went and got some acupuncture needles. I did as I was told, Scott came in the room, poked me (don't worry they are hair thin needles :) and within 5 minutes, I was out like a light. Honestly, I completely fell asleep, it was wonderful! By the time I woke, about 20 minutes later, I had not moved one bit in my sleep, and...I wasn't throwing up! I was no longer sick to my stomach. I still had a headache, but the migraine aspect was gone, and by 8pm that night, my headache subsided. I was full of energy, enough to clean my entire house, make dinner, and play with my new kitten :) Honestly, people, he is wonderful! This is just one experience, I have had 5 others just like this, where my migraine disappeared and didn't rebound the next day or next week, it never did.\r We work every two weeks or so on my migraines, I am better, I am not ""cured"" of course, but thanks to Scott, I am alive inside as much as out. more

Where to go for your health issues when no one else has answers 3/5/2008

Scott Sommer is a licensed acupuncurist and nutrionist - NOT an M.D., so don't give up your doctor, but if you have something going on where you are not getting answers, this is the place to go. Especially if you are not into prescription meds; this is holistic - all natural, herbal supplements. The clinic uses kenisiology for testing, and cold laser therapy for scars and allergy clearing, as well as foot baths and infared crystal beds for detox, so be open minded - some people say it seems like voodoo - but it works. Even if you are in what you think is good health, be prepared for some stuff going on in your body you may not be aware of, be prepared to take lots of supplements and be prepared to wait a good month or two to get in, there is a waiting list. Also, be warned you will be told almost without uncertainty to get off sugar, caffeine and wheat., so don't bother if you can't agree to that. They don't take insurance, and it's not cheap once you get on a ""program"". The clinic has a nice atmosphere, and you won't find a better Acupuncurist in the area, or a nicer guy. All in all it's a good experience, you just have to be willing to pay the price to get to good health. They offer a family rate and a discounted rate for pre-paying, so they make an effort to make it more affordable. Down-side would be how busy they are, they are very often running at least a half hour behind on appointment times. But at least you can relax and listen to zen music in your room while you wait. Also, staff is very nice, but very busy - plan on long checkouts when you leave. Recommended is the free Thursday night lectures where Scott Sommer will give a talk on a given subject and do a quickie test on any new potential patient to give a little sample of how things are done. All in all, the place is recommended, especially when all else has failed. Pros: Great practioner, caring and has answers, you will get better Cons: Appointments can feel rushed and clinic tends to run behind, costly to stay on program more
