My hubby and I found a great deli restaurant :) 9/19/2011

My husband and I went to Simi Valley to go to the dmv there. Simi dmv is known for their short lines so we drove out there from East LA. We came across this deli restaurant on our way back home for a quick bite for dinner. My husband ordered a the skirt steak with mashed potatoes and fat steak fries and he loved it since it's really hard to find a place that has a juicey steak usually they are really dry.... and for me I had the chicken fried steak with the white country gravy with mashed potatoes and green beans which i hardly eat but they have a special taste to it and I enjoyed dipping it in the country gravy and for dessert we shared a vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. The dessert menu is only a few items since this is a deli restaurant. There were a lot of deli food items to choose from and they all looked great. This is a place that I would like to come back when I am visiting Simi Valley since the owner and staff make you feel comfortable and welcome and I had a great time here. more

Wonderful Place! 9/9/2011

I try to visit this deli often when I'm visiting friends who live in Simi Valley. I really enjoy coming here! I grew up in the OC area and live in LA but when we go towards the Camarillo Outlet we always swing by the deli! I've seen some bad reviews on this place and it seems like unwarranted anger towards 1 person, or just plain pettiness. In the past I've had a waitress who was rude, but obviously she isn't there anymore. I didn't go about writing a bad review because of 1 person. Anyhow the old school staff are really friendly and just like some other reviewer said, they have been there a long time. Some reviewer said food was expensive? Not at all. I can see how they would think that especially when all I see in Simi are loads and loads of fast food joints. Reminder: this deli is an actual sit-down place, not a fast food. What I like about here is that everyone remembers you, they remember the usual food you get, and treat you like family. There aren't many places like that anymore. My usual is a bacon avocado omelet or the french dip sandwich with onion rings on the side. Everytime I swing by, I see the local simi cops eating here. It gets busy during lunchtime, but otherwise it's easy to swing by and grab food. Depending on how busy it is the food can take about 10 min since they cook it upon order, but no worries for me. Coming from LA, one of the things that Simi is great for is the parking! Parking here is great since there is a huge lot outside. I heard there were competitors in the town but at the end of the day, customer service is great here and that is what will last you in business. It's unfortunate that the other delis don't exist, but I'm happy to see Simi Deli doing well without any advertising. They are old school but it seems to work with their customer loyalty. more

Simi Deli has great food with great peeps. 9/8/2011

Great food with good company of people here. Not much of a huge yelper anymore. I've seen a bunch of friends postings get deleted by yelp. Yelp is shady. So i'm here now. I'm also on YP. I'm from NY. A good friend of mine frequents this deli so when I come out to visit cali I visit simi and always drop by this place. Bein from NY we abrasive in nature. But we New Yorkers know how to keep it real and we can tell when you ain't real. Letme tell you that the moms and pops who own this joint are real good peoples. They are so nice. They know how to take care of their customers. They remind me of my big Italian fam. I found out they been open since the 70s. That makes sense. No business can be open for that long without bein good to its people. Don't know what the other reviewers are talkin about. Most everything on the menu is under $10. I ordered the usual sky high Rachel with fries. Rachel is the pastrami. I'm sure thats the popular one. Dammm the sandwich be huge! Also got the onion rings and a denver omelet. Yah I gots my grub on since it'll be while before i'm in the area again. My friend ordered the usual chicken matzah soup with the grilled chicken salad. I took some o'that too. It sure is tasty! Thebowl of soup and bowl of salad here insane! Huge! Even in NY we don't get portions like that. I really like this mom and pops joint. Its warm and chill inside. Nothing fancy, just your typical low-key, old-school deli/diner setting. If the food and people and service is great, I don't need fancy. If you want fancy, don't go looking for it where it ain't. People in this town must be spoiled if they think $10 be a lot of money. Try comin out to NY and survivin just 1 day. Bet you be runnin' back to your spoiled town where everything is conveniently located. Can't wait to visit again Simi Deli! more

Great Family Style Deli! 10/27/2009

I don't know what both K.S and Jack Y are talking about below. Clearly, they are talking about a different place or they have some personal agenda, which isn't helpful for reviewing the food. Simi Deli has been around for a long time time (definitely over 20+ years) and probably one of the few 'ma & pa' shops still around Simi. The food is amazing, cooked right on the spot, and the portions are big! You get so much for your money, that you have leftovers for later (which in this economy doesn't hurt my pockets, and clearly very generous of the owners to provide so much for the amount we pay). Their pastrami (the Rachel sandwich) is great! Their matzah ball soup is also wonderful and the taste is pretty much spot-on. All of their various items on their menu is wonderful. The service there is also great. It's not like a chain restaurant where you have 10 or more useless staff just sitting around. It's a true deli style, and the waitresses have been there for more than 10 years. Sometimes the wait can be about 10-15 minutes but it's understandable. Everyone seems to be hardworking and very attentative to what you want and need. I really love this place. Pros: Comfortable, Laid back environment; Excellent Food more
