These ladies can DO IT ALL! Previously, they've altered my dresses and trousers and the work looked and felt professional. In addition, they were always done on or before the date specified. This time I asked them to alter a ballet costume - with a full pancake tutu! Of course they did it, it came out beautifully,and true to form, they came in under schedule! I highly recommend these ladies! Oh, they are also very nice which is huge plus! more

If ""intelligence"" is the ability to solve problems creatively, these women are GENIUSES. I have a pair of expensive jeans whose waist was too low, and all other tailors about town said that raising the waist would be very expensive surgical procedure--and that it wouldn't be worth the trouble and money. However, these ladies took one look at the jeans and figured out the most efficient solution: open and lower the crotch. I said I needed them back in express time, and they rearranged things to finish the work in one day. What other tailors were calling a $70 job these ladies did for $18, in a day. They're the best! more

On the recommendation of a friend, I went to Silhouettes and Profiles to get an estimate on the alterations I needed done for my bridal gown. My dress has a lot of intricate lace and beading and and I really needed someone I could trust to take in the bottom of my dress, as well as bringing in the dress at the waist and fixing the shoulder straps. I'm a student, so when I came in for an estimate and the price was a little out of my reach, they worked with me to get the price down to something within my budget. From going to a couple of different tailors, I can assure you that most tailors do not do this. It's their initial quote or nothing. That kind of flexibility is enough for me to give S&P five stars, and that's before I even mention the beautiful work they did on my dress. I went in for several fittings and at each appointment, the staff had my dress ready, were friendly, and very attentive to the details of the dress and the adjustments I wanted made. I was very pleased with the fit throughout the process but didn't really get the full picture until I put on the dress this afternoon for my final fitting. The dress looked exactly the way I hoped it would. The work was impeccable. The fit was perfect. And on top of that, they surprised me by taking a beautiful dress and making it my dream dress: though we had originally agreed to remove the lace with a scalloped edge from the bottom of my dress and just do a simple hem for a lower price, when I came in they had kept the original lace hem. I was floored. They told me that they couldn't stand to see my beautiful dress without the original scalloped hem. I was willing to make a concession for the price but they weren't - they did a lot of complicated, delicate hand-sewing for no extra charge because they knew it was outside my budget. I am extremely grateful for their generosity. Everything about my dress is going to be perfect on my wedding day! If you want this same kind of special service alongside expert tailoring for your bridal gown or another important piece of clothing, go no further than Silhouettes and Profiles. Silhouettes & Profiles re-constructed the top of a very expensive dress for me - and the workmanship was impeccable. The fit was perfect. I just went back to have a bridesmaid dress altered and they understood how to make it as flattering as possible with no direction from me - and even gave a suggestion to make the alterations less expensive. If you are looking for a tailor who will make sure your clothes flatter you and fit perfectly, while maintaining the original quality of seams and hems - come here. For my wedding, I decided to wear my grandmothers 53 year old (non-preserved) wedding dress. While i love the dress, it needed a bit of tailoring.. fixed seams, smoother darting, and i wanted it cocktail length instead of a full train. I had my maid of honor research places i could trust, and Profiles & Silhouettes came up as the most highly recommended place, hands down. Being on a budget I thought maybe it would be out of my price range, but i figured it was worth going in to check. The seamstress told me to put my dress on, and on the spot would give me a quote for the things i wanted... and if it wasn't what i wanted to spend, no problem i could walk out and it wouldn't be an issue. Not only was the price WAY below what i thought it would be - i could tell from the dresses on the wall around me that they would do a beautiful job. Everything i wanted was listened to and delivered, and i was given excellent feedback of what would look best on me and would be best for the style of dress. I felt i was in excellent hands, and that i could trust the opinions of every employee. They made me feel comfortable leaving something so valuable in their hands, and made it easy to accommodate my schedule. Aside from the amazing service, professionalism and ease involved with this experience, I have to say i felt the staff was genuinely excited to have helped be part of my big day. I was even asked to mail a photograph of me in the dress on my wedding day, along with a photo of my grandmother in it. I love that! Should i ever be in need of tailoring again, no matter how big or small, this is where i will go... and thats saying a lot that a brooklyn girl is willing to travel all the way to the upper west side. I can not say enough positive things about them, and i would recommend anyone to frequent them. Thank you!! more

I have been using the wonderful and talented team at Silhouettes and Profiles for many, many years and cannot recommend them highly enough. Skilled and professional in their tailoring, delightful to work with, always reliable...they can look at clothes and imagine how much better they can make them look on you. They want it to work for you and take pride in their work. Everyone I have sent to them has thanked me many times over as not easy to find such a great place. They have saved the day many times for me, and were especially helpful with a bridesmaid dress that needed redeeming and made it work. I especially appreciate their honesty and they will say when something is not worth fixing or will be too costly for what it is. Saw that negative review below about a wedding dress, and it is so not my experience through many years...I suggest looking at the overwhelming number of positive reviews. I had been to S&P in the past for some simple tailoring and they did a good job so I recently brought in a bunch of dresses to be altered, including a formal, silk chiffon gown that was too big and another (bridesmaid) dress that was much too small. They truly did a fantastic job on these dresses and got extra material that matched my too-small dress perfectly, and managed to turn a dress that was impossible to zip into a perfect fit. I have a hard time believing the one negative review below, I cannot imagine that it's accurate. The ladies are consistently helpful and do an excellent job, and were very accommodating in every sense. Also, it's very reasonably priced! more

When i purchased my wedding dress it was 2 sizes too big, lace all over and beads. I found S&P (thanks to Citysearch). The atmosphere there is soo calming and nice. It took them 1 month to finish my dress. I had 3 fittings, because the work with the dress was really complicated. With every fitting my dress was becoming more and more beautiful and flattering and simply gorgeous! And when i picked it up i couldn't believe my eyes, i didn't know that my dress looked so magnificent on me! And it's all thanks to Silhouettes and Profiles! They are magical and simply the BEST! more

For a girl, one of the most important experience is purchasing her wedding dress. I finally found mine and did my research for the best place to alter my dress. When I arrived about 2 months prior to Silhouettes & Profiles, I was surpirsed at how little they try to accommodate you for days or times. They claimed they were always busy but were defintely willing to work with me because I gave them enough time to alter the dress. They said there was a woman that came in and needed their dress altered in 2 weeks, I planned way in advance and felt comfortable that they could alter the dress in time. I was WRONG! I repeatedly went back because they could not get it right. My wedding dress is a lace dress and everytime they try to alter one thing they ripped holes into the lace. On top of this, they charged me hundreds of dollars (more than $500)! On my last fitting, I had thought they fixed all the holes in the lace but when I returned home I realized they did not and when I looked at the receipt they double charged me and charged me for things that they did not do! This was the worst experience I had and I would NEVER recommend anybody to these people. They were rude and are not worth a aggravation. I was thankful my mother was able to fix the holes, somebody that does not even work in alterations! more

Anything can be done at Silhouettes&Profiles! I truly believe this because no matter what I have been bringing to Irina and her wonderful team - all comes back to me looking even better than before. New or old. And what is absolutely amazing but rare these days - how consistent this shop been over the years. I have always trusted Irina's sane judgment and never regretted any of the decisions that followed. The are simply the best! more

I went to them, unsure of what to expect, because I needed a miracle. A year ago, I had purchased a bridesmaid dress. The wedding was this month, and last month, I realized that it had become far too small. It could not be solved by simply taking out some of the extra fabric in the dress. Ann Taylor also discontinued the color, so there was no replacement alternative available. A friend of mine recommended Silhouttes, and I brought my dress to them. The dress was an unusual seafoam green chiffon, so I was very hesitant that they would be able to find an exact match. Two days before I had to leave to travel for the wedding, and I went in for my fitting. They couldn't find an exact color match, so they created their own fabric by overlaying different chiffon fabrics. It was seamless and perfect. Not only that, but they tailored the dress for me such that it fitted perfectly, better than it ever had before (thank you Ann Taylor for focusing only on super tall people!). The dress was beautiful and it looked especially made for me. The seams were beautiful and professional, and no one could even tell that I had extra panels added! The people at Silhouettes were wonderfully professional and accommodating of my emergency situation. I can't think of anyone else to go to for my tailoring needs now, even though I live in Queens and I have a dry cleaner/tailor on the first floor of my apartment building! more

I was a nervous wreck because when the bridesmaids dress I ordered for an out-of-town wedding arrived, it was literally a good 4 sizes too small. I called the company back and asked if I could order another one or even purchase some of the material, but neither was possible. I took the dress to Silhouettes & Profiles and they were able to find the right material to use in order to insert panels on the sides of the dress. It looks amazing now and I am so relieved. They were incredibly nice and very accommodating. I will never go to another tailor ever again and you shouldn't either! more

Picked up a Summer suit last minute for a Miami wedding. Went to S&P with 3 days to go, ready to plead with them for help. They not only took on the job, but did impeccable work and made me feel like it was no big deal. Irina, Natasha and their team are simply the best. more

I'm getting married on East Sunday and needed my dress altered. They did the most STUNNING job! We decided to be different and add on 2 french bussells to hold my train up. It's gorgeous! They even altered my undergarments perfectly. They pay attention to every detail and treat you like a friend. I was very comfortable and it was a wonderful experience. They are worth every penny.
