This Place Rocks! 9/2/2011

This place is like the bomb! If I wanted to eat crab, I would totally go there because their crab is made with this terrific sauce and its delicious! My favorite dishes there is The Crab and The Chow Fun! The Chow Fun also has an amazing sauce but I also enjoy the beef! It smells wonderful! If you never been there before, YOU NEED TO TRY IT! You do not know what you are missing! I go here very often!! If you want Chinese Food, this is the place to go! :) more

My favorite! 5/21/2010

Honestly, one of the best Chinese food places I have ever been to. Its a little dingy place right in the U of M campus area. Prices are so great! Especially for lunch, where you can get a combo for as low as $5. I would recommend this place to anyone Pros: Great food, great service Cons: atmostphere more

Shuang Cheng is the cat's pajamas!! 8/19/2009

I love eating at Shuang. My favorite dish is either the Walleye w/ Meat Sauce or Mopo Tofu. You gotta try it, tons of food for a very, very low price. Pros: Food is Fantastic Cons: Always Crowded more

Great food, Great prices!!! 5/16/2009

My boyfriend and I have been eating here for about two years. We love it! My personal favorite is the Chicken Almond Ding. We recently tried the Sesame Chicken and it is fabulous, the best I have had in Minnesota. This place is comfortable, convenient, affordable and worth trying out, you won’t be disappointed. Pros: Great food and they validate parking Cons: Occasionally have to wait for a seat more

Best Chinese food in the Twin Cities 8/1/2008

The food is Great! I enjoy it so much I take my family there once a month. The Orange chicken is a must and don't forget all the seafood too, try them all. The sauce is rich and tasty not runny like other Chinese restaurants. The service is great too, maybe a longer wait for your food when it's busy but thats normal. more

Best chinese food hands down! 12/5/2007

This is hands down the best chinese food in the twin cities. Our family has been going to this restaurant for years. We have tried most if not all the chinese restaurants in town and no one cooks seafood like they do. If you ever go there, try their deep fried walleye with meat sauce. We live about 40miles from them but it is worth the trip for some good food. Their price is really cheap compared to other places we've been to, and the portions are big. I Highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for some authentic chinese food. Pros: Really good food, and nice people working there Cons: We get too full when we leave more

Best sesame chicken, Great Value 7/24/2007

I was in search for some great sesame chicken when I moved up here. Out of the numerous restaurants I've tried, this one stole my tastebuds. For $12, and a large portion that could serve 2 very hungry people or 3 people, it's a great deal. The flavors are there and it hits the spot when I have a chinese craving. The service is always quick and friendly. I usually order to-go but they have great daily lunch specials. Enough food to fill you up for $5.50. What a deal! I feel like I'm stealing from them it's so good. It gets very busy at lunch time after 12:00 but there is enough seating to accommodate a hungry crowd. I ordered the garlic chicken and the mongolian beef the other night. I was not impressed with those dishes and would not order those again. The garlic chicken had too much ginger, almost inedible. The mongolian beef just did not have a good flavor, it was just a little off. The egg rolls are really good, also some of the best egg rolls I've had at a chinese restaurant. Pros: Sesame Chicken, Value, 1Hr parking validation Cons: Ambience more

Most authentic 2/27/2007

Not the prettiest place but by far the asain around. Fresh seafood with new specials every night. Pros: fresh and authentic Cons: limited seating and always busy more

Good food, bad service 2/14/2007

The food was good but the service was really bad. The service was very slow. We waited 40 minutes to get our food and there was no waitress or waiter in sight, so our water was not filled at all. We also had to go up to the counter to asked for our bill and then paid them. Pros: food Cons: crowded, service more

Hands down, #1 Chinese in Minnesota. 12/7/2006

You can't say enough good things about this place. The wait-staff is friendly, parking is never an issue, and the food... you'll never have better.\r \r This isn't your average cookie cutter Chinese joint. Szechwan cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood so fresh you'll forget you're in the Prairie. The prices can't be beat either. You can get more than enough to stuff two, and have left overs, for under $30.\r \r My personal favorite dishes here are the muscles in ginger sauce and beef chow fun. The portions are huge, and you can taste the years of experience in every meal. Not many places can boast remarkable fried rice, but it's like an artform at Shuang Cheng. Pros: Everything more

Great Food! 3/2/2006

Minneapolis is like a second home to me since I lived there for about 6 years. After moving to other state, this is the restaurant I miss. I have not found any restaurant on par with Shuang Cheng. They have an amazing FIVE-SPICE DUNGEOUNESS CRAB, Orange Beef, Mapo Tofu, Salt&Pepper Squid, and many other things that I could not remember. The price is reasonable too! Pros: Good parking lot more

One of my lifetime favorites! 7/10/2005

I just ate dinner here with my family tonight (Sunday night 7pm). We didn't even look at the menu, only the greaseboard, like everyone recommended. We had 3 dishes: ""Seafood w/asparagus"", ""Stir-fried green beans"", and ""Beef Chow Fun"". We absolutely loved the green beans and chow fun. Outstanding. Seafood w/asparagus was good too, but it just didn't match our cravings for tonight. Friendly service. Seated right away. I looked around at what everyone else was ordering--I saw a LOT of people ordering crab, fish, some kind of sesame chicken-looking dish, stir fried green beans and chow fun. But for sure, almost everyone had a dish of crab on their table. I'm ordering that next time. Pros: food, food, food more

Yummy 1/30/2004

I think this is the best Chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities. Do yourself a favor and order off of the grease board and not the menu. They have some of the best seafood in the area. I love the salt and pepper shrimp (not on the menu but they'll cook it for you), the chicken with asparagus and the beef with orange sauce. Skip the watered down generic stuff like chop suey. But be sure to get some seafood with one of your orders. The atmosphere isn't the great but the wonderful food makes up for it. Pros: Great seafood, inexpensive Cons: , atmoshere more

Best Chinese in Town 11/25/2003

While I respect the opinion of anyone who may give Shuang Cheng a negative review, I would add that they must have not tried the right dishes. This is, by far and away, the best Chinese place in town. In fact, it ranks as one of the best seafood places as well. Some free advice - be adventurous here. Don't even look at the huge menu. Go right to the illuminated board and select some seafood creations like the giant oysters in black bean sauce, the whole walleye or the sole w/ asparagus. You won't be disappointed!! All that said, don't go to SC for the atmosphere. Aside from the lively Asian conversations at the adjoining tables, SC is not a sight to behold. Pros: Seafood Preparations, Authenticity, Value Cons: Linoleum Decor, Parking on Weekends, No Bar (just beer) more

Great Food 10/23/2003

This place has the best walleye I've ever ate. Great authentic chinese food. Pros: inexpensive more

A favorite 5/30/2003

This is one of my all time favorites in terms of Chinese food. I've eaten at SC on a regular basis for the past ten years now. The food is still as good as always. The seafood dishes are always fresh and tasty and the price has remained fair. The fried seabass with ginger and scallions soy sauce is a delicious dish if you want to try something new. I highly recommend it. Pros: Good, fresh more

Focus on the Food 2/23/2003

OK, the atmosphere is terrible. I mean really bad. Formica and florecent lights. Easy-clean plastic and the same old soy sauce bottles and paper placemats you get at any ""here today, gone tomorrow"" Chinese place. But the food. Ahhh, the food. The best sweet and sour chicken in town. I've been eating here for--over 10 years? Maybe more. Huge menu, and many items either not on the menu--you have to ask--or listed on a giant whiteboard on the back wall. Focus on the food and all will be right with the world. Don't even order drinks--flat fountain soda, etc. Bring your own (just kidding). The service is spotty--some nights it is very quick, others, the waiters seem distracted. And did I mention the atmosphere is like the lunch counter at Woolworths? But try the Sweet and Sour and smile... Pros: Food, price, Food Cons: Atmosphere, service more

All the Chinese eat here 2/11/2003

This restaurant in my opinion is the best chinese in Minnesota. Go in there any night of the week and you'd be hard pressed to find an American in there. The Chinese community give this place the thumbs up as it is full of them and that says alot about this restaurant. Dont come here if you're looking for million dollar decor, but if youre looking for top quality tasty authentic chinese food, you wont find anything better. more
