Dinky's best Chinese spot 1/22/2003

By far the best Chinese place around the U, and possibly the Twin Cities. I've never had a mediocre meal here, and never paid more than a marginal tab. The lunch specials are when it's crowded, but for good reason. Five bucks will get you a huge plate heaping with your appetizer, fried rice and the entree and free tea. Gives Village Wok a run for it's money. more

Best Chinese in the Twin Cities 1/14/2003

No other place in the Twin Cities compares to Shuang Cheng. They are known for their seafood but don't go without trying some other dishes. Their Beef Chow Fun and Singapore Rice Noodle is the best I have ever had. It is busy most evenings, but try it on a Saturday afternoon or early on a weeknight and you won't find a wait. It is a tradition before gopher sporting events so forget about getting through there quick on those nights. Pros: Awesome food, Inexpensive Cons: Crowded more

BEST CHINESE FOOD AND SERVERS IN MPLS 1/13/2003

When I used to live in Dinkytown, I would visit this restaurant every week. The food is fabulous, the servers are friendly and the prices are resonable. I always had an excellent experience and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great chinese food. Enjoy! Pros: Good Value for Food, Great Servers more

chinese seafood at its best! 1/13/2003

Got a itch for no comprimise coastal chinese dishes? Scratch it at Shuang Cheng, you'll be glad. Once you are seated with a manu, put it down, get up and go look at the white board for the freshest seafood dishes for the day. If you don't find something there you want, you may go back the menu, but you are missing out! The spicy baked squid is an institution here, but it's 50% hit and miss - half the time, it is cooked too long and turns to rubebr. That's the only bad thing I have ever had here. Park across 4th, behind the storefronts in the Dinkytown lot if there is no street parking. Cons: parking more

yeah baby! 12/19/2002

Now this is really good chinese food. The baked spicy scallops are outstanding. Do not pass this place up. more

One of the best 12/13/2002

It was one of the best chinese resturants I ate at in a while. Pros: Good food Cons: Expensive parking more

Dinkytown delight 11/16/2002

A definite Dinkytown delight. The across campus cousin of Village Wok is also worth a try. Large portions help to sooth the greatest hunger. Prices are a little higher, but quailty helps make up for it! more

also yummmy 11/9/2002

Similar to Village Wok - opposite side of campus. Also has super chinese seafood (check out white board for specials - the best) Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Dinkytown location Cons: parking, occasional lines more

wonderful Chinese food 11/5/2002

What a great place. The food is authentic, not Americanized like LeAnn Chin. There is so much variety that almost everyone will find something to like. The only problem is how hard it is to get in. I am not sure if they accept reservations or not, if they do I will make sure I make one the next time. Pricing is excellent. Value is easily a 10 more

If you want ""real"" Chinese -this is it! 10/22/2002

Definately NOT anything close to Leann Chin's. Be prepared to eat excellent Chinese food that will take you all the way back to tradition. A must try and try again! I love it. Pros: Inexpensive, great service, food is excellent Cons: parking, small seating area more

Great Service/Big Portions 9/26/2002

Shuang Cheng is great for lunch, or anytime. They have a value menu during lunch hours, and the portions are still big. A great spot before a Gophers game, or any sporting event. But if your group is larger than 8 people, you may want to choose another restaurant, as the restaurant is rather small (hey, it's a Dinkytown storefront!). The casual environment is also quiet enough that you can have a conversation, and the wait staff is wonderful. I've always had excellent food and service. Pros: Inexpensive, Big Portions, Excellent Wait Staff more

first-rate Cantonese 9/8/2002

There is a large menu and everything we had was excellent except the Wonton soup (no surprise). This is as fine as the Chinatowns, which should be re-assuring to New York exiles like myself. Park at the Dinkytown parking lot or the public one across from it: parking is not so poor, you just have to know where it is the first time you come. Pros: authentic, inexpensive Cons: parking more

This place is great!!!!! 8/23/2002

This place is great!!!!! I've eaten at many chinese restuarants in the area and I rate them too (see my other reviews). This place has good food, good prices and the service is much faster than the other places. Although, it is crowded at times and parking is bad. Pros: food, service Cons: parking, atmosphere more

THIS IS CHINESE FOOD. 8/9/2002

This restaurant is located around the U of M-TC campus. I love their lunches... they make very good hollow vegetable..but the last time I went which was end of July 2002...I was a bit disappointed in the food. Some parts of it was kind of cold. I'd still go back, but I think I'd rather stick with the lunch specials with white rice. VERY popular place though by lots of people around campus. Pros: THIS IS CHINESE FOOD, variety Cons: parking, not open late enough more

Simply the best 8/8/2002

Excellent authentic south chinese specialties. Seafood, poultry meat - the choice is huge! And the price is very affordable! I ate there for three years and was never disappointed. Try their roasted duck - it's sinfully good! more

Best in the Cities 8/1/2002

Absolutely the best chinese food in the twin cities. The decor is modest, but the food is great and the prices are good. The Beef with Orange Peel is the best I've had ever. Can be very crowded, especially on weekends and lunch while school is in session at the U, so takeout is a good option. Parking is validated, so it's not a hassle to park in Dinkytown. They are willing to make items not listed on the menu or the daily special board (huge selection), and will adjust any recipe to fit any special dietary restrictions, in my experience. Pros: Great food, Parking validated, Inexpensive Cons: Crowded more
