Not bad for the first time 5/9/2012

This was a 3rd floor apartment to a 2nd floor apartment move, so it definitly was not an easy task but the guys sure made it look easy. All my items were transported carefully and everything arrived intact. The price was what I was quoted, so there were no hidden or extra fees. I was refferred to Shelli Vanlines Moving by someone I really didn't know in my apartment complex so I took my chances and everything worked out fine. more

ONE WORD!!! SCAMMMM!!!!!!!! CRIMINALS!!!!!!! 5/7/2012

My husband and I recently purchased a home to fit our growing family. We have a 5 year old and one on the way. We reached out to a few moving companies to quote a price on our move. We would be moving 5- 7 minutes down the road. We called Shelli Van Lines in Fair lawn, NJ. The very nice women on the other end quoted us a price of $75 an hour and a minimum of 5 hours which included EVERYTHING (would be perfect) Consider I am 8 months pregnant all we needed help with his the heavy furniture. My husband and I moved everything else on our own. When I received the confirmation it did say 5 hours minimum. The movers came loaded up their Van and we made it over to unload less than 3 hours. Before they unloaded the truck they handed us a bill for $1568. (With the min. of 5 hours that is $1000 over what we were quoted) My husband and I were beside ourselves! We called Shelli Vans and were greeted by the same women; however her tone was completely different. She was rude, didn't care that the price was way over the quote and we were advised that if we didn't pay (and only in cash!) that they would not unload our things. They agreed to lowering the bill to $1400 I can't explain to you how upsetting this was for us. They wouldn't give us an itemized bill, but they showed where the charges came from. They charged us $750 for tape and sheet to cover our furniture. Amongst various other fees and charges. We had no choice but to run to the bank and move money to pay them. This to me is criminal. I looked online and it seems to me this company is notorious for doing this to people. Not only to families but to elderly as well. I can't understand how this company can get away with this. I have contacted the BBB as well as the governor; it appears they have had 51 complaints in the last 3 years and 23 within the last 12 months. . I can't express to you how upsetting this is for us, not only from a monetary standpoint, but from a business prospective. more

No complaints 5/7/2012

I secured Shelli Vanlines Moving to move a small amount of furniture and boxes to my Mothers home. I had a pretty good experience with them overall. I had them store the items for a month until i was ready to have them delivered. I was satisfied with both the office personal and the two movers who picked the items up. This was a fairly small job but still glad all went smooth from price to delivery and the price point being where they said it was going to be. more

good experience 5/7/2012

I just moved with Shelli Van Lines over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. After reading some of the mixed reviews I was unsure what to take of it as some people seemed to have a horrible experience while others had a great experience. I went ahead and booked the company anyways as they seemed very accommodating and for some reason i just trusted them. The day of the move the movers did arrive a half hour late, however worked really quickly and finished the move under the time estimated. Some unexpected cost included material in which they used to wrap my furniture, at first I was upset with this however when the move was complete and all my belongings were in the perfect condition as well as reassembled in the proper rooms, I was extremely satisfied. Basically the move came out to about 150 more than estimated over the phone, but I had all my items in good condition, was done with the move by 12 noon and was left with only the burden of unpacking my personal boxes.I am a very busy professional and my greatest fear was having to deal with this move and take time away from my business, which ended up not being an issue at all. I would give this company a B and recommend them to anyone who is who is tight on time and money yet looking for great services. more

Worst Experience 5/2/2012

Very worst experience in my Life time. Over phone they told that they will charge $65 per hour. I asked them very clearly if there is any minimum charge and they told no. After they come they get some signatures and they fill in the incorrect date and they trap you and say you need to pay for 5 hours which is $420 otherwise pay a cancellation fee of $160. Please never ever sign their papers. They totally cheat people. When I refused to pay they took back my material.I lost all my items. Please never ever call this service. They are fraud most in the world. more

STOP!!!!!!!DON'T USE THIS MOVING COMPANY 5/2/2012

I'm going to make short and to the point.. They took advantage of an old lady that doesn't read English. The driver told her to sign a paper for deliver, "" she ask what that was "" and a driver who spoke Spanish told her just to sign and hurry up because time was running.. Once everything was loaded they told her she was to pay $1800 for 25 boxes and a dinner room table.. Since she wasn't't able to pay it I full they took her things. After many phone calls they agreed and a price which is still outrages . THIS COMPANY IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE!!! DON'T USE THEM!!! more

Best Flat Rate 4/10/2012

I recently used Shelli Vanlines for a move in the Bronx. For starters the crew was on time and very professional. i elected to go with a flat rate to avoid extra unknown charges. All moving material was included. The crew assisted in packing and took care to cover furniture and personal belongings. The price for the move was approximately $850.00 for a one bedroom apartment. With every move one can expect minor damage, even with the most careful of crews. As was the case a bookshelf was scratched, but overall i would not hesitate to call Shelli Vanlines on my next move. A bit of advice: since packing materials are included in the flat rate be sure to get the packing material in advance so you can begin to pack fragile items before the move starts. Mark all boxes and have a plan for the movers to follow. more

Awesome movers! 4/10/2012

Shelli Van lines 4/10/2012

I called up Shelli Van Lines on a recommendation of a friend and the sales rep depart was very friendly and helpful in providing us all the knowledge we required as it was supposed to be our first move. I was very much convinced and decided to go forward and book them for the coming weekend. On the day of the move 3 man crew arrived at our doorstep just on time and started to work in coordination and made the entire moving process go with ease. They were extremely helpful, timely, and accommodating to my ever changing needs. With little direction and a buddy there to help coordinate, they boxed up all the remnants of our time and crammed it into one container. The price was right on and the service was well and exceptional. Thanks Shelli Van Lines and I surely recommend to all those looking forward to move more

Shelli Van Lines - RIP OFFS 4/3/2012

We had a very simple move planned 2 bedroom apt to a smaller 2 bedroom apt in the same complex. They quoted us a price of $75 per hour with no other charges. They estimated it would take 3 hours for the entire move. They told us we would have to pay cash. The workers were taking a long time to load the truck because they insisted on wrapping and tapeing everything. We told them they didn't have to do that but they insisted it was their company policy and if they didn't wrap everything they could lose their job. After 3 hours of loading they drove across the complex and told us we had to pay before they were allowed to unload. We asked for a bill and they handed us a bill for over $1600. We expected to pay, by their estimate, about $300 and we only had $400 on us in cash which would have paid the bill and given the workers tips. They said we had to pay for tape, shrink wrap, blankets etc. When we let them know we didn't have that much cash and they told us they were going to take our belongings to their Clifton Warehouse. We spoke to the office and the nasty woman said either come up with the cash or we are taking the truck back loaded. She said the driver would wait while we went to various ATM machines. She would not take a check or even a credit card. We had no choice but to get them the money. It took about 3 hours. We had all but $180 in bills. We counted change and took them the $1420 in bills and $180 in quarters. The driver was fine with that, but when he called the office they said not to accept the change. They told us to go to a TD bank and get the coins changed into bills. They let the driver start unloading while we went to do the money conversion. We have since filed a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs and learned that 5 other people filed similar complants. Their business registration numbers (they have 3 of them) are expired and inactive. There are many reviews here with people having the same experience with them. I find it hard to believe they keep getting away with this DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. more

SCAM ARTISTS!!! 4/2/2012

quoted us a price of $400 and refused to let our stuff off the truck till we gave them $1639 (they dont tell you they charge you for tape, blankets, plastic wrap) and yes they wrap everything just to take more $ from you...TERRIBLE COMPANY,the driver was really nice and felt bad the owner was such a scam artisit...apparently this company does this alot, they are not even a legit company we have come to find out...DO NOT USE THEM!!! more

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! 3/30/2012

Let me first start off by saying i learned a very expensive lesson! I originally had hire another mover however they ended up cancelling due to date i was moving. I got a call from this company and they gave me a great quote or so i thought. She stated it was $75.00 an hour. All i was moving was my bedroom set, 3 boxes, a plant , 2 AC's and a microwave. THAT'S IT!!! I asked the representative if there was any hidden fees and she stated no. She told me my move was a quick move and should be done within 3 hours. So i booked them without researching them. The day of the move they arrived at least 3 hours ahead of time. Normally that would be great however i work the graveyard shift and didn't get home till 5:30AM. The foreman was a young guy who was very professional. He told me to sign this document that showed the time they started. THAT'S ALL HE SHOWED ME. We arrived at my new apt which was literally 15 minutes away and this is where he showed me the bill. It was for $12000!!! I nearly fainted. I was like, "" Are you serious?"" They charged me for 10 packs of tape, stairs from the door to the van, the sky the air etc! I was fuming that i started to cry. All i had was $400.00 and that was with tip!!!! Needless to say i said that i wasn't paying for this to return my furniture back. He told me they wouldn't do it, they will bring it to a storage and i would end up paying for the bill and the storage. I felt so bamboozled!!! I called my mother, naturally, and she tried to get in touch with a supervisor. However she was on a conference call. My mother ended up lending me the difference. They did do a great job at setting my furniture up but that was it. My family is real close so when my cousin found out what happened she decided to call herself. She spoke to a rep by the name of Melissa. She was very pleasant to her and couldn't believe the amount that was charged to me. She told my cousin to call back within 15 minutes. My cousin called back and spoke to Melissa , at least she thought. This representative was rude and abrupt. She told my cousin she couldn't say anything to her and I would have to call myself. I called and spoke to Melissa who was rude and laughed while i was telling her my complaint. I called her on the laugh and she stated she cough. She just kept saying there was nothing she can do. I told her to shove it up her A$$ and hung up on her. I couldn't let it go so i called back and spoke to another rep who was so polite. When i told her the story she stated i didn't speak to Melissa. I spoke to Melisha who was the supervisor. This supervisor didn't even correct me to inform she wasn't the representative who was pleasant. She asked if i have the contract, which the foreman never gave me. She told me i can come in the next day to get a copy and speak to a manager who is above the rude Melisha. The next day i spoke to a manger, i forgot her name. She was very pleasant and told me Melisha was fired. SURPRISE SURPRISE! I guess she had lots of complaints on her. This manager tried to help me and stated the foreman lied to me about returning my furniture. I could of had him return back to my old apt. She stated i should of gotten a hold of someone at the office who would of told the foreman. She also help me get some of my money, $170.00. I mean its not much but it is something. In conclusion these companies get you with the small fine print. Ask questions, research the company and their reviews. Also don't sign ANYTHING until you see what you are paying for. more

PROFESSIONAL CHEATERS 3/30/2012

shelly van line, this company should not be in business. customers are being rip off and can't do anything about it. I was quoted 55 per hour, when i called to comfirm it was 55 per hour. On the day of the move the price went up to 65 per hour (thats ok) it took them 3 hours to move my bedroom furniture only ( queen bed, two dresser and a crib) at their destination they had to be paid before removing my furniture from the truck ($1000) cash or money order only. i had to pay for EACH BLANKIT, TAPE, HALL WAY, ELEVATORS AND THEIR TRIP BACK TO NJ THEY CLAIM WILL TAKE THEM 1.5 HOURS. Charges for elevators, maybe i shoule have shown them the stairs. THIS COMPANY DON'T TELL YOU ABOUT ALLLLLLLL THE OTHER CHARGESSSSSSSSS. This was my first time moving and i was rip off, so if you are moving i don't recomend this company (SHELLY VAN LINE FAIR LAWN NJ) more

Shelli Van Lines are cheaters! 3/28/2012

can't giive them even one star. The company is cheating customers in every possible way. They are not honest when give you a quote and so-called promotional rate of $65. When the movers come, first thing they say - if you cancel (because of the extra charges you were not prepared for) you have to pay $250 cancellation fee - basically give you no choice to decline them. I can't even say they were quick and efficient. Also they did not listen to what I said, and packed the items that I did not want them to. \r They do not tell you the actual price until you are at the destination place where they refuse to unload unless you pay in ful in cash. When they told me the actual price which was $1000(!) more then I expected, I called the office and was told that I should have received emial with all these charges included, which I did not. I could not do anything at that point, as they were sitting in the track and waitung for their money, and after they received them, they did not bother to be too careful with my stuff. Whoever would read this - please DO NOT use this company. Let get them out of business all together! And if someone from the company would go across this - I would remind them just one thing - DO NOT STEAL - the day will come to pay back. more

Buyer BEWARE 3/26/2012

I called to get a quote and they told me $65 an hour and no travel time, I even called a second time to confiirm ... Well like the others who have reviewed this, I was also taken to the cleaners by them. They charged me for taking the items more than 50 feet from the door $225 for blanked (I did not get to keep them) packing tape and 4 hours of travel time. The bill I expected of $365 became over $1,000. I was Peeny Wide and Pound foolish, I got other quotes that were higher, but included all of this. Do NOT use them. I am filing complaints with the BBB and the Attorney General's Office. These items are baloney ... The funny part I thought they were good, quick and nice, but the bs of all the up charges maked them a BAD choice. more

Buyer Beware! 3/5/2012

All of the negative reviews about this company are true. My fiance and I experienced it first hand last week. We were given a quote of $65/hour and it was emailed to us. There was no mention of any additional charges, travelling time fees, packing fees, or a 5-hour minimum. After our belongings were packed onto the truck, the ""foreman"" named ""Rob"" informed my fiance that there was a 5-hour minimum plus a 1-hour travel time fee. It took them 2.5 hours to pack our stuff and move it and we moved about 0.5 miles away. What we thought was going to be a $350 job turned into $875 with additional hidden fees, including a ""stair"" fee even though it was the same stairs that the guy who gave us an estimate used when he came to our office to assess the amount of stuff. Our items were held hostage until we paid the money in CASH ONLY! Which they never told us until they got there. No credit cards or checks accepted. And they dont tell you that until they have your stuff being held hostage! My fiance was hung up on multiple times when he called the office and complained and each time he called a different person answered (who sound exactly like the last person but gave us a different name). My fiance also confronted ""Rob"" who was basically ""robbing"" us that he knew they were scamming us and that they must do this all the time. Rob replied this has ""never"" happened before which is obviously a lie based on all of these very similar reviews. Bottom line, DO NOT USE this company! Save your money, time, and aggrevation. I wish we had known more before they showed up at our house. more

NEVER TRUST THESE PEOPLE 2/4/2012

after reading these reviews I wish I would have do so sooner and I never would have booked this company. Now that I have read the reviews I am thankful they never showed up. I booked this company for my local move and the quote i was given was oly for days that my move was not schedualed. they knowingly told me a price that was not valid. I stupidly booked anyway. then thye dont even show up. i tried calling and got the answering service, who told me i woud receive a call back in 5v minutes, of couse they never called. finally after over 2 hours of trying to reach them and not geting anywhere i left a message with the mesaging service and told them not to come. From the reviews I am readuing I guess I am lucky that they didnt show up more

Highway Robbery 1/21/2012

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY My furniture was loaded in haste and will little care. Once loaded and transported the moving crew held my furniture hostage until I agreed to pay an amount that I had never agreed to in the first place, and which was never stated on the quotes sent to me before the move date. For example, the moving crew claimed that they had used 25 tape rolls for $5 a piece...They charged us $100 for using the elevator, $150 for having to use the stair case They charged me for an hour travel time and a five hour minimum, something again, I had never agreed to. More specifically, I had communicated earlier with the company that I did not want to be charged for the 5 hour minimum since my move was under 2 miles away (between homes). Besides the entire move from the old to the new place took 1.5 hours. This agreement was disregarded. When I called the company during the move, one representative confirmed with me that I would not have to pay a 5 hour minimum. Later, when the moving crew was holding my furniture hostage until I paid, they denied knowing of any such agreement. So, I called the company back, and asked to speak with the same representative that I had spoken to earlier in order to pass on the information to the moving crew. Surprise surprise however, it was impossible to reach that same representative. The new representative I spoke to did not have any such information, and would not agree to eliminating the 5 hour minimum. Any conversation I had with the earlier representative which had agreed to eliminate the 5 hour minimum was non-existent. The new representative, was abrupt and rude with me, knowing very well what situation I was in. To make a long story short, the moving crew, instructed by this company would not release my furniture until I paid an exorbitant ransom for my stuff. Never use this company more
