Avoid At All Costs 5/6/2010

We used this company last week for a short move between two towns in northern NJ. It was a disaster. At first they sent their agent (owner?) over to our old home to investigate. He then formulate a number which was not an (which we originally asked for) but a ""firm, flat price."" On moving day the business sent over what looked like three middle school students, who then went about taking SEVEN hours packing and moving our possessions into their truck. \r \r Before leaving for our new home, and with the day almost done, one of the movers informs us that we must come up with an additional $500 in cash, then and there. We asked what would happen if we could not; he replied ""then we will take your things and put it into storage until you come up with the money."" To us, this was extortion, pure and simple. We immediately called the local police. \r \r The police said that they could not do much, and that it was largely a civil manner, but the officer negotiated with the owner anyway. He got the owner down to $270, which we unhappily came up with. \r \r But it got worse. Shelli Van Lines took hours to move and reassemble our furniture. The movers then proceeded to break several valuable items, namely a laser printer and a century old mirrored cabinet (which was a family heirloom). \r \r Please avoid this company at all costs. They are criminals and extortionists, and that's putting it lightly. Cons: Financially misleading, unprofessional, dishonest more

Don't even Bother! 4/20/2010

So, I’ve dealt with many shady moving companies in the past. We have to move a lot for my husband’s job. So this time I thought I would go with a reputable company and pay a little more-just so I wouldn’t have to deal with any surprises on a very stressful day of moving.I was moving to MI from Ny and there were a few moving companies competing for my business. When I spoke to the receptionist at Shelli Van lines she wanted to give me a quote over the phone. Oh no- I said. I’m not falling for that.I wanted a rep to be sent to my home and give me a price based on what he sees. OK. The rep came and with packing everything the price was 5500. A few days later the receptionist called wondering if I had made a decision. I told her that I would go with her company if they did it for 4000. She had to check and get back to me. And she did-and said they could do it for that price.\r So, here we are the day of the move, after being 3 hours late some little shady isreali guy, who looks 12 by the way-is calling the shots. He tells me that there is no way that all my stuff will fit on one truck. I look at him with a blank stare- and say- “OK-so use 2 trucks”. Then here it comes. Are u ready? He says that the price I was quoted was for 1 truck” . Shocker.I said, “No, No,No- the price I was quoted was for all of the contents in the house. It’s not my problem that I need 2 trucks.I specifically wanted a rep to come and see so there would be no bait and switch. When he assessed the house, he should have anticipated-just like ur doing now- that I would’ve needed 2 trucks. I don’t care if u need 4 trucks-I was quoted 4000 for the whole house and that’s what ur gonna do!” He tells me that he would do it if he could but his “boss” would never let him. First I tell him to call his boss-but he can’t b/c his boss is on a tropical island somewhere soakin up his millions. Mind u,they didn’t even own these trucks-these were 26ft penske trucks that any joe shmo could’ve rented. Then I called the receptionist that I was dealing with and asked her what kind of scam were they running. She was apologizing left and right. Then- the guy that was there-the shady 12 yr old looking isreali-his name was Moshe(of course) was telling me that this is a risk when u get price quotes over the phone. I looked at him and screamed “Excuse me?-ur f’ing guy came here, went through the whole house and gave that quote”. He didn’t know what to say. Tensions were high and eventually I had to pay him an extra 1500. Of course it turned out he was the owner of the company-Don’t ever trust these isreali moving guys-they r all the same. And when the trucks did arrive in MI-my furniture wasn’t reassembled. The guys unloading had no clue what was going on-If I wanted a couple of muscle head idiots,I could’ve rented the trucks myself and gotten guys off craigslist. Never again!\r Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Bad Move 2/28/2010

Shelli Movers are not be trusted. They overcharge when they pack for you by putting 1 item into a box and stuffing it with packing paper. They charge $30 per box. They gave us an estimate of $750 for the entire move and it ended up costing $1450. This was due to them over charging $30 for boxes and taking their sweet time. It took them an hour to drive 1 mile which they charged $95. Plus when we unpacked we realized that they stole $200 from my newborn's piggybank. Cons: Overcharged, Money missing more

one of the better moving companies I've experienced 12/11/2009

I have moved a lot during the past 8 years due to my line of work, and so I've had my fare share with moving companies experiences. I've recently hired shelli movers to relocated me from Birdsboro, PA to my new home in Cherryhill, NJ. unlike many movers in the past, this team was VERY professional in terms of taking really good care of my belongings before they even left my doorstep. everything was wrapped in blankets to protect from damages and the most important thing to me was a couple of very fragile and delicate art works my grandpa left me before he past on, I wouldnt know what I would have done if anything happened to those 2 art pieces... The foreman assured me and even carefully rapped those two in front of my eyes and indeed they arrived safe and sound just the way they were before...what a stress it was to unwrap them and what a relief it was to find them in one piece in the end....great job guys! I did had to pay extra for special wrappings for all kind of stuff, but here's the truth - all companies charge extra for special wrappings! and it all showed in my estimate which I can guarantee - some companies will intentionally hide it from you! friendly, fast workers and professionals. Pros: Very professional movers team, and I would know more

Don't Be Another Victim 11/10/2009

The initial estimate was originally very low. When the movers showed up they loaded all the items in their truck and once everything was loaded they jack up the price to almost triple. They charged for “special packaging” and ask for additional insurance. They also asked for a 25% tip out of the final price –we haven’t seen yet. We eventually tipped them $100 dollars a worker (even the final price was so high that the tip should have been $300 a worker which we couldn’t afford) since we felt intimidated that our items won’t otherwise arrive well. Obviously $100 per worker wasn’t enough since the final result was one of the worse experiences with a US company run by mostly Israeli (we dealt with) who hires non- English speaking workers. \r When they delivered our stuff the boxes were completely mashed up. Things as lamps, China, glassware, fax, DVD, and other electronics where ruined. Many boxes were missing and item as leather office chair, vacuum cleaner some wardrobe; coffee maker… didn’t even arrive. When Shelli created list of items, it wasn’t readable and after they drop of our stuff they make sure they show up the wrong day so the time is inconvenient so you quickly sign up what they ask you for hoping for the best. I understand things get damaged but to this extend… that is just unacceptable.\r You sign a contract that promises you $0.60 will be recovered on a dollar in case there are any damages. They keep this contract. I took pictures, made descriptions of the damaged and lost items and send it to the claim management. The sad part is that this letter went pretty much back to Shelli. I got letter back that they aren’t responsible for any loss and damages. When calling they avoid phone calls or disconnect the conversation so you never get anywhere. I know there is nothing I can do to recover my items and damages but I wish all the people who had the same disastrous experience with these liars and thieves would report their experience to Better Business Bureau as I will. Shelli is a con company and should be out of business immediately. This company is taking business from the ethical companies who try to do legitimate business. \r Cons: A Complete Disaster ! more

STAY AWAY 9/16/2009

They come in with a low price then jack it up after you give them a deposit. Bad business ethics, stay away from this company. Pros: Foreman was nice Cons: Bait & Switch more

Very good full service 7/31/2009

My wife and I recently had a baby and I just got a new offer at a law firm in Manhattan. With my long hours and with my wife recovering we just had no time to pack our house in Montvale, NJ. 18 hours and $2425 dollars later, l am fully moved and unpacked in my new apartment without me or my wife lifting a finger. more

Defamed Company> 7/27/2009

Moved from Edgewater to Los Angeles. A Million companies called me. I chose this one. I read some of the bad reviews but I quickly understood other moving companies purposely write defaming information about other companies to discredit them. The movers arrived and I hadn't even packed my underwear. They saved me a bunch of time and the service was very well. Great mix of movers had an Israeli, Syrian, American and a Spaniard. Very good Sales Rep. Pros: Quick service, great full service packing and unpacking Cons: Waiting for shipment takes 7-14 days more

Pleased 7/27/2009

Used Shelli Van Lines to relocate from Virginia to a townhouse in Manhattan. Traffic was a nightmare getting into the city and they charged me for this but because a total of 3 hours was spent on traffic, they gave me a break on the labor. Very appreciated. Pros: Packing, Professional and Funny Movers, Prompt, Great Packer Cons: Expensive but worth it. more

Great service. Took the trouble off my hands. 7/25/2009

I'm not sure why the other reviews are full of complaints. Either they're thinking of ""Shelly"" van lines or their being paid by someone to write negative reviews. I used them to help me move during a troubled point in my life. Girlfriend booted me out and I had to take all of my stuff to the new apartment asap. They took on the job with flying colors. Made an appointment with them; they came in, took my stuff, and got it to the new apartment without a hassle at all. Pros: Easy to work with. Cheap. Efficient more

Terrible Experience, Absolutely Horrible 7/23/2009

I do not even know where to start: shady pricing(website prices vs. actual prices charged by foremen), damage to goods(even after paying extra for special packaging), bad service(after you sign, they do not care the least about you), etc. But I will just illustrate one episode that was the real highlight of the move. After they lost a wardrobe box, which I had actually bought from them, they offered no help in recovering it. After a whole week of stressful phone calling, I found out that it had been misdelivered to another person at the other end of the state. And to crown it all, they just gave me the phone number, and told me to call and get it back myself! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! This company perfectly exemplifies what bad service and bad business is all about. Pros: Teaches you how deceiving some people are Cons: Worst moving experience of my life more

Quick, efficient, and friendly New Jersey Movers 7/23/2009

Moving with Shelli Van Lines was one of the better, if not the best experience that I've had with any moving company. USA Express Moving being the worst and it almost had me lose my faith in movers as a whole. Shelli Van Lines restored that faith by arriving on time and my stuff was packed well under the time we thought it would take. The problem came when I realized that I still needed some paperwork which was already packed away! They were so efficient it took me by surprise. Pros: Friendly and fast Cons: too fast more

quick and reliable 7/21/2009

great moving company, highly recommended. my couch was too large to fit through the entryway of my apartment so the movers lowered it down over the 2nd floor balcony for no extra charge. price was exactly what i was quoted online. book with shelli, you won't be dissapointed!! Pros: service as advertised. no hidden fees. more

Great service, respectful 7/21/2009

Shelli van lines was able to book me just 2 days prior to my move-in date and they did everything for $200 less than was estimated by other local companies. The movers were extremely courteous, as were the people on their customer service line. Best moving experience ever!! Highly recommend!!!! Pros: Punctual, politle customer service, very careful more

SHELLI VAN LINES 7/20/2009

I told them I thought I needed them for around 8 hours to fully pack and load my stuff. I was wrong. Despite it took a little over 17 hours and\r they had to reschedule the client they had after me, the movers were energetic and professional to an extreme. Everything was handled with\r care and everything loaded and unloaded Pros: moving company in nj more

Shelli Van Lines SCAMMED ME! Do Not Do Business With Shelli 4/4/2009

Shelli Van Lines arrived drunk and high to pick up my belongings. After serveal weeks of not hearing them I contacted them to see why my stuff had not arrived. Shelli Van Lines was rude and told me to stop harassing them or they would take me to court. For what? Shelli Van Lines is a SCAM! Your an idiot if you still do business with them after reading this. Shelli Van Lines, You need to shut down asap! Cons: expensive, poor customer service, belongings never delivered more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE EVER 3/27/2009

They just try to give a very low estimate to lure you and then when they come to pick up stuff, will almost double your estimate by charging all kinds nonsense charges.\r \r And the delivery date, was told will be delivered thursday, called them friday morning and now they are telling will not deliver until Tuesday or wednesday...\r \r Customer service is horrible. They have different offices. Do they even know to speak english??? They are so rude and unprofessional. Asking questions and being worried about your own stuff is quite normal.. Their reaction to that is awful...\r \r Never ever even think of using these people for moving... Worst experience...Worst Nightmare I ever had... Pros: No PROS at all... Cons: Estimate was a lot lower than actual final charge more

THE WORST SCUMBAGS 3/19/2009

DO NOT USE!!!!!! Wow I wish I read the reviews listed here before using these scumbags. Rude and border line violent - had to get the cops involved - try to scam money out of you evry way they can. Quote one number then demand money before they complete. One of the more unbelievable experiences I have ever had. Pros: nothing Cons: EVERYTHING more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY 1/18/2009

Avoid this company at all costs! We were given an estimate of $1800 for 124 pieces to move from Illinois to Colorado. After everything was loaded, the man in charge told us the bill would be $6,000. He said he could either charge us that way, which he claimed was cheaper and based on the amount of things in the truck OR based on how much the truck weighed when it went through a weigh station. How would we know what was cheaper or what the exact weight was at the weigh station? They should have done an estimate before they put everything in the truck but that's why we had a contract.\r \r In addition, they first promised to be there on a Friday, than a Saturday between 8-10, which changed to 10-12, and then finally 2 o'clock. Four hours and a bus load of paperwork, they were finally out of my house. I have never had such a lousy experience in my entire life and it started the New Year out on a terrible beginning for my wife and me. Cons: not on time, price way more than quoted, slow more

My opinion 1/6/2009

\r I had a bitter experience with this company, I am nt sure of their location and from where they operate, I was kinda mugged. There was a mess in estimate and final price, shich is been told after they take your things from home. Totally unprofessional. The sales person gave me false hopes and estimates. I better advise you to go with some professional movers. more
