For years, my children and I have gone to Ruthie for haircuts and highlights. Her previous salon was within walking distance from my house. I was sad to learn that she was changing salons, and that the new salon was on the other side of town, but we remain loyal and the drive is worth it. She has always taken very good care of all of us, and goes to great lengths to make sure she gives is the best service possible. I do not rate the salon necessarily, but the hairdresser! (The salon is beautiful, though) more

When Ruthie changed salons, I just had to come with her. It is on the opposite side of town and takes me 3 times as long to get there...BUT,,,who cares? Ruthie works with you until you are absolutely thrilled with your color and cut. PLUS - she is always friendly and pays attention to YOU. She takes copious notes on your likes and dislikes. She is one in a million. more

My family has been going to Ruthie for haircuts and color for 5 years. She's the best. my husband has a specific way he likes his hair - Ruthie does it. I am extremely picky about my hair and I won't let just anybody cut it! From day one Ruthie has known exactly what to do. I also have 2 teenage daughters that are also very picky about their hair and they LOVE Ruthie. My 17 year old can take a picture to Ruthie and Ruthie can copy it to a ""T""! When Ruthie moved salons it was farther from our house, but we followed her. Ruthie is part of our family now! I won't go anywhere else! more

I went there twice, it seemed great and promising, but NO! Ruthie made my hair UGLY!!!!!! Now it sticks out weird, not at all like the picture I showed her! Don't go here, it is everything short of good, I'd recommend Great Clips, or even cut it yourself! Not to mention when they washed my hair they got shampoo in my eyes, and the color ran down my hair and smeared, and the cuts are hideous! more

I have been through a few stylists over the last couple of years, most were either good at cutting or color, never both! After a few recommendations I decided to try Michelle. She looked me and suggested what might look good on me. It didn't look good when she was done, it looked totally awesome and I got lots of compliments on my hair that night. I went to shear elegance over the holidays to get my hair colored from Ruthie. She has been coloring my hair for years and always does such a fabulous job! She always colors my hair the perfect shade of blonde, and she is the sweetest person! I have been going to the same stylist for the last 13 years. While he is quick, current, and comperable, he fails in one major area: he doesn't listen to his client. I recently had my hair colored/highlighted by him before leaving on a major trip, specifically explaining I did not want to go too light. I showed him pictures of color I wanted to achieve, and even color he has previously done on me. He nodded his head, did his work, and I ended up lighter than I have been in years. Living in a cold region, I looked washed out, unnatural, and brassy. Michelle was able to fix his work, adding in warm lowlights with exactly the color I was trying to achieve in the first place. My hair looks naturally sunkissed and not too contrasting to my pale skin color, dark eyebrows. It is frustrating that after only a few days and money spent, I had to go to someone else to fix it! \r If you want a professional color job, see Michelle...it is her strength, and furthermore, SHE LISTENED TO WHAT I WANTED!!!! more

When I first walked into Shear Elegance, it was a great experience from the start. The women who worked on my hair, Michelle, was very friendly and immediately sat me down and asked exactly how I wanted my hair to look. I showed her a picture of what I was leaning towards and she got right down to buisness. By the time my appointment was done, my hair looked exactly how I wanted it to. Since that very first visit, I've been to Michelle several times. I only let her do my hair because she is the only one I trust to get it just right. THIS STORY HAS A HAPPY ENDING!!! I went to a different stylist at another salon. She couldn't lift the black, my hair was too damaged from this dye job, but she did finish out my mullet by completing my weave for only $30!!! She felt so bad for me that she only charged me for product :) My hair is still a mess and has a million colors in it (most of them shades of black and dark brown) but at least I don't have a blonde mullet anymore. My new stylist says that within a year I should have a nice light brown. Please don't go to Shear Elegance. I ask that with a pure heart. There is no malicious or cruel intent to this review. I am not a mean spirited person! I honestly believe Michelle did her best, and for whatever reason,my hair turned out bad. The worst part of this all was just the fact that she couldn't accept any responsibility for what she did, That's all I wanted. I make mistakes at my job too. But to make me feel like a bad person for not liking the way she did my hair....that's not okay. If she would have been honest and upfront about the poor job that was done, I wouldn't have spent an hour writing this review. more

She did a partial weave (which is what I wanted, seeing as I was reluctant to get bleach at all). Let me tell you, this partial consisted of color only around the crown of my head. It looked so bad I cant help but laugh! I had a blonde mullet!!! She styled me, CHARGED me $140, and sent me on my way. She made me feel like she cut me a totally great deal and I told her the blonde helped make it look not so black. I tipped her (I tip rude/bad waiters too, its a bad habit that my husband is trying to break me of). Michelle texts me the next day and asks how my hair is. My reply is this, ""to be completely honest, its the exact opposite of what I wanted. It's so dark. Everyone at work thinks its black :( But oh well, life goes on"". She JUMPED down my throat and told me I had unrealistic expectations and that I was totally happy when I left and blah blah blah it went on for like 9 texts. I responded, ""Michelle, you asked me a question, I gave you an honest response, are you wanting me to lie? I can tell you I love it, but that's not the truth. I dont understand what you're looking for"". I was NOT happy when I left, I clearly said it looked better than the solid black. In her defense, She apologized for snapping at me BUT proceeded to say that for another $70 she would add more blonde to lighten up my hair. ANOTHER $70 FOR MY ALREADY SCREWED UP HAIR!!!!!! Oh my gosh I was totally shocked!! After charging me $140 for a box dye job (complete with the black ring around my hairline) she wanted to charge me another $70.(see part 3) more

I saw all the outstanding reviews online & I decided to try this salon. I walked in and Michelle (the owner) told me to have a seat. I told her that I just wanted a lighter brown than I had. She proceeds to tell me she specializes in color and can definitely finish lifting the dark brown out of my hair. She told me she thought it'd look great with highlights after we lightened the brown. I asked her if she could really do that after lifting color. She told me, ""totally"". I was super excited, I had professional pictures in less than a week!! She began to apply the color (which came out of the bottle black). She saw my face and was like, ""oh dont worry, it wont be this dark at all."" I noticed that she had gotten about 2 inches of black dye all around my ears, forehead, and by my jawline. She said, ""just go ahead and rub that off with water when you get home."" Hmmm, okay.. about 30 minutes later she washes and begins to dry my hair....I burst into tears!!! My hair is black! Not brown, and definitely NOT the light brown she promised, BLACK! One of the other girls working in the salon had kept her eye on me since Michelle put the super dark dye on my hair. . . she shot me the most dreadful look of pity. I could totally tell her heart ached for me!!! Michelle was like omg why are you crying? ur not mad at me r u? I told her it was way darker than when I walked in and it was OPPOSITE of what I wanted! I had pictures in less than a week :( She was like, ""its not dark at all""!!! WHAT?!?!!? So not only did she just ruin my hair (dark is soooooo much work to pull, I've gone blonde from dark before, it sucks) BUT she also wouldn't admit that she had made a mistake!!! I was astonished! We all make mistakes, admit it though! Don't tell me I am wrong, my hair was black! My forehead, jawline, and ears, had a matching black ring to prove it!!! She told me that if she put highlights in my hair I would be much happier. I told her I wasn't comfortable doing that. I told her my hair was SOOO dark I would look like a skunk. She ONCE AGAIN promised me she could fix it. Against my better judgment I agreed. She put highlights in, I cried the whole time. She pulled another stylist over and was like , ""she is crying because her hair is too dark, tell her its not dark"". The other stylist said, ""sweetie if you're not happy maybe we can try something else"". Michelle is the owner, this other stylist wouldn't lie for her, but definitely wasn't going to get fired on my account. Everyone in there saw how awful my hair was, trust me, it was no secret. Michelle came into Victoria's Secrets about four years ago while I was working there. She was super nice, told me I had gorgeous hair (which I do!) and started talking about her salon which was called Ignition at the time. I was totally impressed by her knowledge of hair design and upbeat attitude. The salon itself is absolutely gorgeous! I loved it four years ago when I first came in, and it has been COMPLETELY redone since and it looks better than ever. All the stylists there are really nice, friendly, and upbeat. I'm super picky about my hair because I've had so many horrifying experiences in the past, and I must say, Michelle has NEVER let me down! I absolutely love going in there, because it's such a comfortable and fun atmosphere and I'm always super satisfied with my hair when I walk out the door. I honestly won't let anyone else touch my hair from here on out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =) more

I've been coming to Shear Elegance for alittle over a year now and have experienced the upmost quality hair service ever time! Michelle, the owner / stylist is awesome! She listens to ideas I might have in regards to my hair color / cut/ style.MIchelle also has great tips and reccommendations to get your hair looking great. She really knows her stuff when it comes to hair! I reccommend this salon to everyone if you want to experience high end quality service at a very affordable price. Dont settle for the hair cut places that only serve quantity not quality. \r I will never go to another salon other than SHEAR ELEGANCE! I have known Michelle for a very long time. We have been neighbors for over 20 yrs and I always admire her very upbeat attitude and positive outlook. Her empathetic attitude and her friendliness are just one of the many reasons why her clients keep coming back for more. I was referred to Jessica by a neighbor and couldn't be HAPPIER... I am new to the area and have struggled finding a stylist that had a sense of style and was confident in her profession and I found that in Jessica hands down.\r \r I made my first appointment for a cut/style but before she was done I knew I was returning and wanted her to do my color, so I booked a color for the next couple weeks. She was great about consulting with me, explaining the different shading, etc... and for the first time in years I wasn't nervous about having my hair colored again.\r \r After my cut & new style I didn't think I could feel prettier... but after my color appointment I felt beautiful.
