I am extremely picky about the color brown when it comes to my hair--having wanted a richer look with more depth many times in the past, I have often come out of salons with nearly black hair...not so becoming on me! I rank pretty high on the list of ""oopses"" when it comes to my hair color---so naturally, I was slightly more than a little nervous when I came to Simone for a dose of color. Once I showed her pictures, she immediately clued into what I wanted, and I could tell instantly that she just got it. She advised a gloss as well as highlights to eliminate the red undertones (left in my hair from a color stripper I had used in the past months) and leave my hair with dimension like I had wanted. I truly appreciate the time she spent graciously putting up with all my nervous questions and banter about my hair :) She was patient and was extra sure to take into consideration how I felt and what I wanted...needless to say, I was not surprised to see that the end result is B-E-A-U-tiful---I couldn't have asked for anything more! ...AND not to mention my cut was subtle enough to preserve my length, but dramatically change the way my hair falls, which I love! Simone and Melanie are both wonderfully talented --- the second you walk into Scissors, the pride they take in their work is very apparent. This will be my home salon from now on...no more oopses! more

I found Scissors last year when I first moved to Richmond and have been trusting my hair to Simone ever since! I am very particular about my hair but am always willing to try something new as long as I trust my stylist. After reading all the highly recommended reviews here on Citysearch I decided to make an appointment with Simone. The minute you walk into the salon you feel welcome and everyone there tries to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. Simone is amazing and makes sure you are getting exactly the color and style that you are looking for. I have never had a stylist spend so much time with me to make sure I get the results I want. Every time I go in for an appointment with Simone I know my hair is in good hands and I let her have fun with my color. Today I walked in a blonde and out an amazing red head! I have never been happier with my hair color results! I can always count on Simone and her expertise to give me an amazing look to fit my fun, youthful personality. Absolute waste of money. Pls don't go there, else you would be trapped in the sweet talks by the lady. So expensive but horrible ambiance, no cleanliness. No hair specialization as they mention. They will charge for nothing. COMPLETE NO NO! I had horrible experience. Right now they are trying to invite customer for some Client Appreciation Party! People find a better place worthy spending so much! more

Until I went to Scissors!! After reading a bunch of reviews yesterday, I made an appointment today. The second I walked in I felt totally comfortable and relaxed. Simone was very friendly and interested in what I wanted for my hair. She showed me around the salon and told me about all of the wonderful treatments available there, from waxing and massages to pedicures and facials. During my cut she gave me tips on coloring my hair, what to use and what not to use. She also gave me tons of information on making my hair healthy again. Great price and great cut, I will definitely be back again and again. Pros: amazing cut and great atmosphere. more

After my hairstylist stopped doing hair years ago, I hadn't been able to find a hairdresser quite as good. But my search ended with Scissors! I hadn't gotten a haircut in almost a year, and was in dire need of one. I had no idea what I wanted to do, other than chop it all off and donate it. Melanie was absolutely wonderful! She sat down with me for a good 10 minutes and looked through magazines to get ideas and better understand what I liked and disliked. I have NEVER had a stylist spend so much time making sure we were on the same page with the haircut. As she was braiding my hair to cut it off, Melanie was absolutely wonderful, encouraging me and making sure I really wanted to cut off so much (losing over 10 inches of hair is a big deal!). Melanie gave me an absolutely wonderful, low maintenance cut, just like I asked for. She listened wonderfully and gave me exactly what I wanted, and taught me how to style my hair on my own... not many salons take that kind of time. Simone and Melanie were both so kind and welcoming... even offering wine and tea. The best part, aside from the cut, of course, was the conversation! It's so terrible to have a bad conversationalist doing your hair, but Simone and Melanie both made me feel like an old friend. Scissors is a wonderful salon, and I will definitely be returning! I have a hectic travel schedule and needed a haircut and color badly! I was working in the Richmond area and came onto city search to find a salon. I read great reviews about Simone and her professionalism as well as staff so I figured I couldn't go wrong! I got lost twice on the way there and she was so nice and helpful to guide me to her salon. I previously read online about what a pain parking could be and I had no problems there was plenty of parking. The salon in very lovely and welcoming! It has a very charming feel to it. Simone was great she sat down and talked to me about what I was looking to do and actually she convinced me to color my hair as well. The finished product was amazing! I loved my hair and it was more that I could have expected! The color was great and fresh as well as the cut. I have received so many compliments on it. While I was there I decided to get a pedicure as well. Melanie was awesome and so sweet. I have nothing but great things to say about these ladies and the salon. Now I am trying to figure out how I can coordinate a business trip there every month for a cut, color, and pedicure since I live out of state (: Thanks! Pros: Everything!!!! more

I highly recommend Scissors for the spa manicure / pedicure treatment for your wedding weekend or any other occasion. My maid of honor booked Scissors for my bridal party the day before the wedding. All 5 of us were from out-of-state and had never been there before. They were great to work with before we arrived. Their space upstairs was perfect for us. Very private. We didn't have to worry about bothering anyone else. Cool atmosphere. The manicures and pedicures were far better than any I have gotten in NYC where I live. The staff working with us had a great attitude and made sure we had a good time. You will not be disappointed. Plan to stay a while. You won't want to leave. more

My hair was pretty much a disaster before I went to Scissors recently. I couldn't remember the last time I'd had anything done to it professionally, and it needed some serious help! My hair was not healthy, not even, and the color was interesting (to say the least). No exaggeration, it was BAD. So I did some research online, read a bunch of good reviews, and made an appointment to get my hair cut and hilighted by Simone. She and her super friendly staff did not disappoint. From the moment I walked in the door, I was treated like a queen. Her staff gave me a tour of the building, offered me food and beverages, talked with me about what I want done to my hair, and were very cheerful and polite. There were dozens of magazines to look through so that I could pick a hairstyle. When I showed Simone which hairstyle I liked and what color I wanted, she somehow took the trainwreck that was my hair and magically transformed it into the exact style I had pointed out. Spoken as a PROFESSIONAL PRISSPOT....I have probably been to every salon in the metro Richmond AND DC area and have not been more happy with my hair. I look at it like this.....you wear this EVERYDAY..so why shouldn't you want your hair to look it's best?!!! I have NEVER had anyone sit down and act GENUINELY interested in what I want to do with my hair and had HONEST feedback from a professional. She is not overpriced nor is she RUDE!!!! She is a HUGE animal lover like myself and has offered to help do fund raisers for my shelter as well....So ladies who have complained....I don't know what kind of day you were having but there are MUCH BIGGER things in the world to complain about be concerned about. I say....KEEP doing what you are doing Simone....its working for me girl!!! Pros: excellent staff, great pedicures, one on one attention and always on time. I have been a customer of Simone's for many years and would not trust my cut or color to anyone else. Her eye for color is exceptionally good. Have always enjoyed my visits to her, for which I travel 2 hours one way. I highly recommend her full service salon and staff. They are so ""full service"" that on my last visit, when my car battery died, Simone was jump starting my car, with her cables, in the middle of 18th Street in busy afternoon traffic. I created an account here on City Search because I had to write about how great this salon is! So far I've been there 3 times, and I have no complaints. I moved to Richmond a little over year ago and had a hard time finding a salon I was comfortable with. My hair looks great and I will definitely be going back for more services. My first time at Sissors was today, I have been bouncing between different hair salons trying to find the right one and finally I am wildly pleased. Simone is the BEST!! She fixed my awful, stripy, outgrown highlights and made them subtle and sophisticated. Then Simone gave me the exact haircut that I described to her. Everyone was so friendly and polite. Simone has been my hairdresser for years. I would not go anywhere else. I have tried many salons in Richmond and in my opinion, she is the best stylist and colorist that has ever worked on my hair. I have started carrying her cards with me as I get compliments wherever I go and they all want to know, ""Where do you go?""\r The way she colors your hair is impeccable. I don't know how she does it. The colors never blend into each other and I know that is difficult working with subtle tones of red, blonde, and brunette. Simone also is up on the latest cuts and trends. I give her carte-blanche, that is how much I trust her!\r The salon itself has a great style to it, representative of the beautiful old buildings in Richmond, with brick walls and wooden floors.\r The staff is so friendly, so you must treat yourself to a pedicure or manicure, and even a facial while you are there. \r You won't be disappointed! I moved here from DC and needed to find a new hair salon. I went to this place because of the rave reviews on this site. I think that the people that liked this place may have gone to a different place than I went to. Simone was perhaps the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. I made an appointment to get my color changed, knowing that it would likely take all afternoon, and when I got there she informed me that she didn't have the time to do what I wanted. So we partially did what I wanted, and I scheduled another appointment for a month later, against my better judgment. I was told by her staff that I would get a confirmation call prior to my appointment, which did not happen. The people here may be nice to some people, but they treat others in a rude, unmannered, and unprofessional way. I would sincerely recommend finding another place to get your hair done. more

I stumbled upon Simone and Scissors on the internet! I needed a 911 haricut as my regular stylist is out for 6 weeks due to an injury. I can NOT tell you how welcome everyone made me feel!! The shop is wonderful, very different, unique!! BUT most VERY relaxing!!\r I needed 20 plus lbs. taken off my face, and for some strange reason that happened in Simone's chair!!! Plus she gave me great color!!!!\r I live about 45 minutes away, and have found a new ""home""!! I will be back at least every 6 weeks!! \r P.S., relax and enjoy a glass of wine, and become a part of their family!! more

When searching for a salon to correct my over high-lighted hair, I discovered Scissors and Simone. On my first visit I was a little nervous, but the parking was painless, the red wine was delicious, and my blond hair was transformed to a beautiful brunette. The next visit included new layers, which I loved, and Simone and staff even shared their pizza with me. As I became more comfortable with Simone, and my schedule at home became more hectic, I decided to go for a shorter cut. With Simone's help, I have a sassy, stylish haircut, and it takes only minutes from shower to out the door. I feel like a movie star! (Katie Holmes has nothing on me!) Many times I have seen good reviews for a service, product or place and been disappointed by a mediocre experience. This was definitely NOT the case with Scissors Salon and Simone. I have paid much more for hair cuts and never gotten anything like that haircut Simone gave me. She is truly an artist who takes pride in details and fine craftsmanship. \r \r Simone helped me choose a flattering cut for my round face. It seemed like she cut each individual hair based on how strands of hair met the lines and angles of my face. She let my hair dry naturally and made adjustments as my hair dried, taking advantage of the natural growth patterns of my hair instead of fighting against them. \r \r I walked out looking thinner, younger and definitely happier. I heard nothing but compliments for weeks. Several months later I still get compliments and today I am making my second appointment. She has a customer for life. \r \r In response to the reviewer before me, I am surprised anyone would bring a small unattended child. I have two young children and rarely get out for the luxury of adult company and peaceful pampering. Having been to quite a few of Richmond's nicest salons, I have not seen one that provides childcare - for which I am thankful. Pros: Simone is an artist! Trendy atmosphere. Well worth the price. I received a great cut by Melanie. However, the customer relations in the salon was unpleasant. Due to circumstances, I had to bring my baby with me. Now he was in a stroller, not running around. It was made pretty clear to me that he was not wanted the moment I stepped into the door. He would occasionally make a few loud noises, but did I mention he is a ""baby"". Simone, the owner, actually yelled at my son (A BABY!!). I should've walked out right then. It was suggested to me that maybe I should come in the evening next time, so my husband could babysit. Which I replied, ""My husband is receiving training in the military and has homework in the evening."" I have never felt so uncomfortable in a salon. This is not a CHILD-FRIENDLY salon, which they probably would like for that to be known. They say they want customers to be relaxed, well I was a customer also and I wasn't relaxed. I have had my hair colored about five times by Simone, and each time I was extremely satisfied. I came into her salon today with bright orange hair (the result of a botched dye job) and she was able to completely fix my terrible ""do"". She did a remarkable job and my hair is FINALLY back to its natural color after three months of being carrot orange. Simone is very flexible; willing to talk in detail about what her clients want, and is happy to look at pictures of your ""ideal hair"" which many stylists aren't. \r I would highly recommend the Scissors hair Studio, especially Simone, if you are looking for beautiful, natural-looking color. more

After walking around all summer as a HAIR DON'T, I had finally had enough! A co-worker recommended Simone and Scissors, so I gave her a call and she agreed to see me later in the week. When I walked in I was greated by the resident kitten, who had been rescued by Simone and decided to take up residence until a suitable home could be found. Simone also greeted me warmly and professionally and made a point to really listen to what I wanted to do with my hair. She sat down with me and talked about what had been going on with my damaged hair, she looked at it in the natural sunlight and asked me where I wanted to go with color and style. She then went to work quickly and efficiently to turn my hair disaster into exactly the color and cut I was looking for. My new style is easy to maintain and I have gotten rave reviews from my friends and family. My hair is healthier and shiney again, it is easy to style since Simone showed me exactly how to do it myself and which products to use.
