The best place ever to get your hair done is here! I have always done my own hair but i wanted to go short and i wanted to go blonde so i came to Scissors which was the best thing i have ever done for myself. The atmosphere at Scissors is relaxing and you feel at home. Simone does an excellent job on my hair. i would trust her to anything she wanted to do with my hair! oh and one other thing Simone if you ever leave the state i will have to follow you. you are my first hair stylist and my last! I was looking for a new hair salon and saw all of these amazing reviews. I thought it was a little suspicious when Scissors has way more reviews than any other salon, but, I listened to all of the glowing reviews and called for an appointment.\r \r To my surprise I was able to get an appointment the very same day. Lots of openings. Hmmmm...with such positive reviews, it sure was easy to get in. Later through conversation at the salon, I found out they encourage people to give reviews. I doubt other salons are pushing this from their clients.\r \r Basically I didn't like the atmosphere, maybe it was trying to look industrial but just looks messy. It took 2 hours for a haircut and when I tried to use my cell phone to let the babysitter know I would be late, I was told that they do not allow cell phone use. I wouldn't have had to use it if they hadn't kept moving me around amongst their other customers.\r \r Then even after I painstakingly tried to explain what I wanted, I still ended up with a lame haircut that I had to try and fix on the way to the car so I didn't look totally wierd. \r \r So, lesson is if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. \r \r Cons: atmosphere, haircut more

I have been a client of Simone's for over 8 years now for great cuts and awesome color, but this is the first time I have received an air brush tan. Speaking from the land of very fair skin, this service gave me fabulous color in preparation for my engagement pictures that were being taken the next day. Be prepared to suffer through a night of not showering and looking like PigPen, but it is worth it--as the next day after I could shower, the color evened out and I had a gorgeous NON-ORANGE glow which complimeneted my dress color and gave me the ""boost"" I needed to feel gorgeous. If you want color that lasts (it is Tuesday and I got it done 5 days ago and STILL have great color), then this is the way to go. It definitely costs a bit more, but is worth it for those special occasions! more

Not only that, it has some great eye candy and I never once got bored with the scenery. Also, thanks sooo much for hiring Melanie and Jennifer. And while this might not have been very significant to you, dabbing the blue off my face while I was getting colorized was so unexpected...you weren't even my stylist! I apologize for not thanking you at the time, I was just so taken aback by it, in a good way. After reading the reviews here I gave it a try. She talked me into color and I didn't even see a difference. The hair cut was a disaster. I looked like I had a mullet with layers on the top that were way too short. I'm not sure why my experience was so different. more

I have now had two haircuts and coloring at Sciccors with Simone, the owner, and both were absolutely fabulous! I moved to Richmond 5 months ago, and my mom actually found Sciccors on Citysearch for me. I was somewhat hesitant to try out the salon b/c the reviews were overwhelmingly wonderful, but I was not disappointed with either experience. Both times I've had my hair cut and colored, I've had my husband and my mom tell me that it was the best haircut I've ever had. That says something, especially when I went to a top hairstylist in Hampton Roads for the past ten years. I would highly recommend the salon. And of course, don't forget to take them up on the offer to get your nails done while waiting on your hair to process (if coloring). You do have to pay for the manicure, but it is only about $15 and it is a great way to pamper yourself. They will treat you like a queen or a king while you are there. It's a complete experience! Simone does an outstanding job with my hair. She listens to what I want, and I always leave happy with my cut. She gives me different ideas for styling it, and she makes sure I know how to style it before I leave. Richmond is lucky to have her! more

From the moment you walk in till the moment you gather your things to leave.........just an experience. I was very anxious and apprehensive about getting my hair ""toned"" or ... okay if I have to say it ...colored. I had been on this site to read the reviews to find that this was a place I wanted to try because they ""claimed"" to be hair color specialists. Well, how many of us have been to ONE OF THOSE before? I am sitting here writing this to tell EVERYONE that they not only CLAIM they are color specialists, but I HAVE THE BEST COLOR EVER. They listened to my want for depth and dimension and to have a ""natural"" look. I was blown away. I was pampered while I allowed myself a treat of a manicure while waiting on the color to process and now I have this whole new attitude. Nails are pretty, hair looks wonderful and did I mention I met my new hairdresser? :) \r If you have hair issues.....you have GOT to take the time to stop by this salon. Simone (the owner and hair stylist extordinaire) really does a great job of making the salon ""all about you"". This is a first for me--writing a review on a business. I am totally blown away with Scissors Hair Salon in Shockoe Bottom. I am very fussy about my hair --it is the one thing I insist on looking absolutely fabulous. I found out about Simone (the owner of Scissors)from a woman at my gym.(Her hair had the perfect cut and great color). I am hesitant to try new places, but I sure am glad that I gave this a chance. Simone is on top of her game when it comes to hair. I feel like my cut and color are something that I would get in a salon in New York City or LA. This past Friday I had Simone do my hair and later went out to a nightclub...people were complimenting me on my hair the entire evening...and I danced with everyone in the place! Finding Scissors has been a blessing for me. Knowing that I can go there and come out looking sensational for a job interview or a special evening out is a great comfort to me. Check it out! I walked into Scissors Hair Studio and instantly fell in love: vintage furniture, chandeliers, leopard print stylists chairs... Amazing! Simone and Chanda instantly made me feel welcome, taking me on a tour of the salon, explaining their different services, offering me a drink, etc. Simone really took her time with my hair and I couldn't have been more grateful. I went from dull brown to vibrant blonde, and it looks so natural. One thing I found that was very different from other salons I've been to is Simone really took the time to make sure her clients were not only getting what they wanted, but what they would be comfortable with styling on their own. It was such a refreshing change from most stuffy salons. I will definitely be going back not only for my hair, but also for the long list of other services that they provide more

This was my first visit to Scissors to have my hair highlighted and cut. I have been in Richmond for two years and just could not find the right stylist. Simone has a great eye for color and style. I truly enjoyed not having to rush home and re-style my hair because no stylist could capture the style I was looking for. Simone's consultation was helpful in deciding the right cut & color for me. I used Citysearch and viewed the ratings when I made my decision to go to Scissors. Simone was wonderful and she took extra time to consult with me about what my problem areas were and what I was looking for. Her process was not rushed, and I felt very relaxed. Thank you again Simone! I definitley will be back. I got a grand tour of Scissors, which I wasn't aware of all the extras there were available. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, not stuffy at all. The customer service was excellent and I certainly didn't feel like I was the next person in line. Today was my third trip to Scissors to have expert and master stylist Simone color, highlight and cut my hair--and just like my first two visits--today's experience was exceptional. Simone and her associate, Chanda, are, first and foremost, extremely customer service oriented. This, coupled with Simone's superb eye for color and style make this a uniquely enjoyable experience. You can truly and very simply put yourself in her hands and be nothing but pleased with the outcome. Since I started going to Scissors, I've had more compliments on my highlights and style than ever before. PLUS, the style is progressive but EASY to keep looking great in between cuts. I went to Simone when she was in the Fan District and would not go to anyone else. Then....I moved to Central Pennsylvania and could find no one to compare to her! I traveled back to Richmond to visit my family and get my hair ""done"" about every three months. That was in 1990, and I finally let go! I didn't know where she went but just saw these on a search and so I can now go back and get a great cut and style that is just right for me -- when I visit Richmond again! Hi, Simone!!! Have written the review several times, but the site is not taking it. So one last try. Went to Scissors for the first time today and I love my hair. My cut feels great and that to me is always the sign of an excellent cut. Not only does it look great, it feels fantastic. Simone worked with my naturally wavy, curly hair and I now finally do not have to resort to the straightener every day. THANK YOU!!!! You will not feel intimidated in this salon as you can in so many...you know...when you sit there...hate it and do not say a word and then tip the stylist on top of it and then go home and cry???? THAT WILL NOT happen at Scissors. Simone made sure I understood if there was anything I was not happy with, talk to her. She is very easy to speak to and is fantastic at hair! I moved down to Richmond a few years ago to go to graduate school. Being from another state, and knowing very few people in the city, I didn't know where to go for a good haircut. So I started out trying a few salons around the city?with no luck. In one instance, I walked away in tears....\r \r And then I fell upon this page on Citysearch one day, and followed up with an appointment at Scissors with Simone. Now I understand why there is such a consensus of great reviews!!! Because it is all true!\r \r Simone is truly an artist-hairdresser!! I've found that I like my haircut when I walk out the door, but actually grow to love it more afterward.\r \r My most recent haircut has received comments from everyone who sees it, like 'it's so fresh', and just, in general, wonderful feedback, besides the fact that it is super-easy to maintain and wear. It's just a great color and cut, and nothing like I've seen before, which is reflective of how Simone is always refining her craft!\r \r I just moved back to New England, and am trying to figure out what I will do from here. I moved to Richmond this summer & actually found Scissors on Citysearch. I'm not one to trust everything I read, but I didn't know anyone here yet to get a personal recommendation & I figured if the salon could get virtually perfect ratings, it must be pretty good. I was not disappointed! \r \r I have gone to Scissors twice now & had great haircuts both times. I am one to trust my hair stylist's expertise & always give them lots of creative freedom. (I have also only trusted 5 people in my life with my hair!) I told Simone the effect I was looking for & told her that it needed to be low maintenance - and let her do her thing. She nailed it! I love the cut she gave me. Very flattering & easy to maintain. And I'm really picky! The perfect cut falls into place easily & doesn't require hours of styling & that's how this cut works. It's fantastic and I'll stick with this style for a while.\r \r I had never ever colored my hair before and had only planned on a haircut for my first visit. Simone convinced me that highlites would do a lot for me. I was a bit leary, but she assured me it would look natural & I could let them grow out and never do it again if I wanted. Was she right! They looked natural & I love them. Add such dimension. Really brings my hair to life. I will probably keep highlites forever.\r \r I'd also like to mention how flexible they are in scheduling. I have a demanding travel schedule for work & they have managed to fit me in on short notice, which I really appreciate.\r \r All-in-all, I'm thrilled I found Simone at Scissors. Thank you Simone for taking my call! Having just moved here I was a lady in distress...I tried 2 different hair salons and came up empty. Just when I thought I was going to have to make a trip back to Philadelphia to have my hair cut and colored I discovered Scissors! I had tried a place that cost a lot and a place that cost a little and was not satisfied at either. Scissors was just right! After too many boring, average haircuts and cookie-cutter highlights at other salons, I finally brought my mousy brown hair to Scissors and Simone transformed me! My first visit, I became a strawberry blonde and I was so happy with the results and so confident in her talent that I didn't hesitate to go for a more dramatic change the next time... and the next time... and still going... Now I'm a bold redhead with perfect blonde highlights and a $exy inverted bob. Simone is truly a master of her art and I always leave feeling like I got what I asked for but better! And I'm always getting compliments on the cut and color. Complete strangers have even stopped me to tell me how much they love my hair!
