Do business with Sassouni if you want to be falsely accused of crime and otherwise violating your lease and be pushed out of your apartment.\r \r End of lease approaching, called to discuss renewal, was told we (I or my roommates) had written and called to notify management we were not renewing. Lie. When I responded that this is a lie, the person I was speaking with had no further information and nobody else was available to explain. I was told somebody would contact me; of course, nobody did.\r \r Suspiciously, after called, a letter was slid under the door falsely accused my roommates and I of using drugs, engaging in illegal activity, and otherwise violating our lease. Again, lie. Neither management nor the super has ever contacted us in any manner other than this letter (by phone, in person, et c) to discuss these accusations or come to the apartment to investigate. Neither our neighbors nor anybody else has ever complained to us. We have certified mail receipts proving we have paid rent on time every month, have kept the apartment in excellent condition, and have rarely contacted the super or management with any request (of course, the one or two requests we made were not only ignored but our calls were not even returned). more

Not a fan. Made several calls to get a copy of the executed lease and was met with complete contempt by the receptionist. Have yet to get a lease, but did get a bill showing that I owe back rent for $500/month more than what we agreed to. Super is never present (at 189th) , but his mother is. She doesn't speak English and can't handle basic requests. Just living out this lease and will never deal with them again. more

I don't know what to say about this management. In some cases, they do things fast and efficient, but there are too many problems in the building. Heat, hot water, water leak etc. I'm not sure the building is just too old, or their care is poor. more

All positive reviews are fake 9/17/2012

No way there are any positive reviews here that are real. Several years ago Raphael, who does not get to work before noon on his best day, decided to put this white guy named Allen up front as the phone monkey so people can't get to him. Allen sounds like a midwestern all-american guy and initially makes a good impression on people to make Sassouni appear that they care and are not the slum lords they actually are here and back in the Native india. Little did they know, Allen is a nanosecond away from putting a shotgun in his mouth and pulling the trigger after going postal. He has lost it completely. His act disappears completely when asked for any real help or any real information. He has major anger issues and is a nutjob. Although I would be to working for these criminals. These people are indeed criminals. It's why the moved to great neck because so many people were coming down to there office to complain. They buy buildings with rent stabilized apartments then ignore them in the hopes that those rent stabilized people get fed up enough and leave. This may fly in whatever ever craphole they crawled out of in india, but not here. The city needs to be made aware of what these people are doing. There time will come, it always does. If I were Raphael and Ambi, I would watch my back around Allen. The countdown is getting low on his pulling a Columbine over in greatneck. more

Additionally, the apartment I rented leaked water from the walls and ceiling because it was a single layer of brick. Winter was incredibly cold due to this. The water damaged several pieces of my furniture, and when I contacted the company about it, the response was ""you should have gotten renters' insurance."" more

Been a tenant of theirs for many years. While they're not going to offer any free lunches or cuddles, they're decent, honest people and good landlords who keep up their buildings. You have to sometimes stay on them for stuff but they make an effort to be responsive. John and Allen are a great addition, before that the customer service aspect could get frustrating but those two are really on the ball. As far as the ""rudeness"" mentioned, different personalities are different, some people have a different phone manner, etc., but I don't think it's actual rudeness. They know who tenants are, at least. more

Awful company 5/24/2012

This is probably the worst company i have ever dealt with. unproffesional, unresponsive, borderline criminals. Do NOT rent any apartmentthru them, you will regret it. more

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM 5/23/2012

The first thing that really bothers me about this company is that everyone who works there is completely condescending and rude. So calling them with any questions or problem always turns out to be an awful experience. Secondly, throughout the course of my year I have had numerous mice and bug sightings. There are cockroaches all over the hallways. My toilet has broken twice and my kitchen sink once. The building is old and falling apart. The company is not helpful and extremely rude. more

Rude and Unprofessional 5/3/2012

I don't know how these people run a business. They are completely rude, unhelpful and unprofessional. more

Negligence is not a virtue 1/8/2012

I lived in a Sassouni-managed building in the East Village. Don't pay attention to positive reviews. If your standard for management companies in this city is ""they didn't make my life totally miserable"" then you've got the tenant version of battered wife syndrome. The fact is, any company that puts so little effort into treating their customers is just as bad as one that is mendacious, negligent, or law-breaking. While my super (or rather, the super's assistant who did all the work) was terrific, every other person was lazy, uncaring and/or incompetent. To wit: upon moving out, the super spent about 90 seconds looking around the apartment to inspect for damage, cleanliness, etc. He said it was fine. Then, when I finally (over two months later) received my security deposit back, it was $200 less than the total amount. The office told me there was damage. I asked what specifically. They couldnt answer me. But they also refused to issue me the correct amount for my deposit. They know it's not worth suing someone for $200, so it's a nice last f*ck-you they can give to their former tenants. I know that sometimes you're stuck and have to hold your nose and work with certain companies. I would encourage you to expend every effort to avoid having to live in a building managed by Sassouni. more

I would not typically write a review on this site, but the overwhelming amount of horrible reviews about Sassouni are disturbing and I felt the need to say something. When I was getting ready to sign my lease two years ago, I too Googled the company and stumbled upon this website with all the horrible reviews. This website literally almost made me walk away from a gorgeous apartment that was far-better priced than other lesser apartments I'd looked at, and I am so glad I chose to ignore what I was reading. I have lived in my building now for the past two years, and have not had a single issue or complaint. I truly believe the people complaining are people who are either paying their rent late and deservedly receiving poor service, or just have some sort of personal vendetta against the company. I have had only a couple small things that needed to be repaired in my apartment, and I was always contacted on the same day by the management office with an appointment time for the repairs. They have also been very accommodating to my schedule and actually have their contractors show up on time, which I find to be somewhat rare in this city. John and Allen in particular went out of their way to take care of my lease re-signing and replacing an entire toilet instead of taking the easy way out and just repairing a part. The garbage area in the back of my building is well-maintained and I have NEVER seen a mouse or a rat back there (or in my apartment for that matter), and I can truthfully say my bug sightings have been VERY few and far between. If you are a good tenant who pays your rent on time, I can't imagine you would have any of these horrible encounters other people are writing about, and I would strongly discourage making your decision on whether or not to rent from Sassouni based on all these insane reviews. more

Horrible Horrible Horrible 10/10/2011

If citysearch would let me I'd give this company NO stars. Sassouni Management lacks communication, integrity and NO respect for it's tenants. Ambi is rude, unhelpful and defensive. By the way the current website that comes up for this company is bogus. It's a front. STAY away from this management company. more

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM 10/4/2011

I am forced to move again after 1 year in a building of theirs because they indeed they are raising the rent by 20%, a $400 dollar per month increase -- equal to $4800 per year. They gave us less than 40 days notice of this. It is a terribly inconvenient personal time for me to move but my only choice is to stay and pay these crooks extra and watch them try to raise it again in a year or to leave now before any more money is thrown away. They took forever to respond to an attempt to negotiate and then returned with an offer of a $350 increase per month. I am sickened by this treatment and absolute lack of consideration for what is ethical and humane. Over the last few months, many people have been chased out of the building for this same reason and I wish I had realized the scope of the problem then so I was prepared for this predicament. I am also sickened when I think of the brokers who sold the apartment who said they personally were waiting for apartments for open up for them to move in. Many have opened up and none of them have moved in. I am sure that is a line they use. Overall, I've had a terrible experience and it is worth waiting for a better apartment to open up than to take one of these. more

**NEVER RENT FROM THESE SCUMBAGS** 9/29/2011

All the apartments always look good at first, and then after a year they try to raise the rent at a minimum of 20%. All the good reviews are posted by Ambi & Allen themselve. They are despicable to deal and karma will be dealt to eveyone one of them. more

HORRRRRIBLE BA&*%RDS!!! 6/13/2011

I have never signed up to write something before but i had to. we lived at 112 e 97th st last year and had a huge HUGE rodent infestation that lasted the entire year and they did absolutely nothing about it. I got ring worm from the mice and our dog ate around 50 of them. NOTHING WAS EVER DONE AND THEY ACTED LIKE WE WERE OVER EXAGGERATING I HAD MICE RUN ACROSS MY FACE DURING THE NIGHT PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!! also, they didnt give us the full security deposit bc they said they still had to clean after me left but now they will be hearing from our lawyers those effin bastards. more

Avoid at all costs. 6/13/2011

Out of my 6 years in New York, living all over the city, Sassouni was by far the worst management company to deal with. Not only did we have to fight with the company to get ANYTHING fixed in the apartment but they also tried to keep the interest from our security deposits upon moving out. I had to remind the woman on the phone that it is state law that the tenant receive the interest. Not to mention that our returned security deposits were returned on handwritten checks-- which leads me to believe that they never put the money into a separate account than their own (which is very much against the law). Just stay away if possible. more

awful 5/31/2011

It's nice to know that Sassouni Management is more dedicated to writing fake positive reviews for themselves on citysearch, than actually helping their tenants. We have had problems with rodents throughout the year. Ambi is rude, unprofessional and absolutely awful to try to deal with. Do yourself a favor and never rent from these people. more
