Best

Great food, best Thai restaurant for me. Great value for the food. Best is they open late. lately they are only accepting cash, bummer.

Worst

It's passable, and for the price, not too bad, but very definitely not very good. Stewed duck noodle soup....

Tasty pa-nang 3/24/2007

I think that some of the other reviewers just have an adversion to Hollywood. Yes Hollywood can be a bit nasty, but hey it's home. I had a great meal, the servers were nice, good tea, mixed ethnic crowd. The only issue I had is I had to walk up the street to the ATM because they only take cash. On my way to the ATM, I got cruised by some guy who I think believed me to be a "pro". Come one, it was Sunday afternoon and I am wearing hemp clothing and uggs boots, so not enticing! But I did manage to redeem my afternoon by a nice plate of chicken panang and some rice noodles. SOOOOOO GOOD!!!! Pros: Authentic and cheap Cons: cash only more

rude servers 3/12/2007

i have always been a fan of sanamluang in sherman oaks but since i ended up in the wrong branch which is here in hollywood blvd coz i dont live in this area then i had to settle eating here. my gps died so i didnt know how to get to the sherman oaks branch...Flies, Flies and flies everywhere... i needed to give a feedback about this restaurant somehow because of the rude servers they have... yes servers with an attitude of rudeness!!! They throw the plates, utensils, and napkins at you as you sit down, you have to set the table yourself. No greeting, no smiles, no words, just impatient blank stares when you're ready to order (as in ""are you gonna order or what?""). I have no clue what to order in this restaurant since they said they are totally different from the sherman oaks branch. ARGGGHHH!!!!! And when the order is ready, of course, why bother set it on the table when they can throw it at the customer.i have told all my friends about not eating in this branch ever again!!!!!!! Cons: rude servers more

DELICIOUS!! 1/2/2007

It may not be a very ""pretty"" restaurant, and the parking may bit a bit complicated. But when I crave Thai food, this is THE place to go. Don't dress up, it feels a lot more like a cafeteria than a restaurant, but I promise you, the food is quality and the value amazing. Chicken pad thai, that has the best flavor of any pad thai I've ever had (and I eat a lot of pad thai), only costs $5.50. And a thai ice tea is only $1.50. The curries are great, and everyone I've ever eaten with here, was really happy. I think the best way to find out the best foods are to ask people who are experts in that particular food for advice. I've asked several Thai acquaintances where to go for the best thai food in L.A., and they all mentioned Sanamluang. If you care a lot about ambience and can't put up with a little bit of complicated parking then please go somewhere else. I'd rather you didn't go, complain, and post another misleading bad review. Pros: Food is great, and prices are low! Cons: Ambience is bad, parking lot always crowded more

Don't miss the NoHo location 11/28/2006

There's also a Sanamluang Cafe at 12980 Sherman Way. This place is cheap and their noodle dishes hitt the spot, much like the Hollywood location. Parking in the lot is a nightmare, but luckily plenty of spots can be found on Sherman Way. \r \r Last time I was here, I saw some Buddhist monks. If it's good enough for the monks, it's good enough for me. Pros: Noodle dishes Cons: Parking more

Tasty Thai 11/7/2006

I've been going to Sanamluang for about 10 years now. Their Thai iced tea, soups, shrimp cakes and noodle dishes are the best in LA--hands down--especially for the price. The service is actually quite good for such a busy casual restaurant. Once the waitresses began to recognize me, I found them extremely attentive. (A decent tip probably won't hurt.) I prefer the food and the clientele at the Hollywood location. Your parking choices are bad and worse, unfortunately: 1) Street parking in a dark and questionable neighborhood or 2) Stack parking in a tiny lot where an accident seems imminent and/or it'll take forever to retrieve your car. It's a great place to grab a bite after the clubs close but you might be fighting a late-night crowd. more

Awsome Thai Noodles!!! 10/17/2006

This is a great place to get excellent Thai noodle dishes that are inexpensive an fresh. It's always crowded so you know its really good. Don't go expecting a white table cloth experience, just know you'll be getting an excellent meal for not a lot of money. Pros: Excellent Thai noodle shop Cons: Parking, sometimes a wait more

Authentic Thai Food! Best in Los Angeles! 9/26/2006

I have eatin at many thai restaurants in Los Angeles, but by far Sanamluang Cafe has the tastiest thai food. I am a big fan of pad thai, and Sanamluang cafe knows how to make flavorful and tasty pad thai. They load tons chicken, beef, shrimp, and eggs in there pad thai. The garlic pepper beef over rice is superb. Both items only cost me 12 bucks. I am sold on Sanamluang cafe and now they will become my regular thai spot. Pros: Authentic thai food best Pad thai in LA Cons: Parking terrible and usually crowded more

This is more like bad Chinese food 9/22/2006

I can't say there are all bad, the fried dishes, such as fried tofu, shrimp cake, are pretty good. Poor services just for Thai custommers(That's why I can see almost no Thai custommers eat there.) I ordered roast duck over rice, got only 4 small pieces of duck, better go to chinatown to get a lot more, and the better taste for the same price. The only good thing about this hunting place that they open late, and they got a best spot, so you all hungers may think it's good. more

Mediocre food, offensive service, parking valet from hell 9/2/2006

Motivated by the great reviews, I decided to give this place a try.\r \r These were my impressions:\r \r 1. Flies. Flies all over, landing on my food, on my glass, everywhere...\r 2. This is great Thai food? Whoever said this needs to get reacquainted with Thai cuisine. This is not, by any standards, great Thai food. Mediocre at best. LA has the best Thai food outside of Thailand, and this joint clearly does not contribute to this fact. There are a million other Thai restaurants in the city you should try if you think what they serve here is good food.\r 3. What's with the servers with an attitude? No, this wasn't attitude, this was plain, old-fashioned nasty rudeness. They throw the plates, utensils, and napkins at you as you sit down, you have to set the table yourself. No greeting, no smiles, no words, just impatient blank stares when you're ready to order (as in ""are you gonna order or what?""). And when the order is ready, of course, why bother set it on the table when they can throw it at the customer.\r \r The one positive thing I can say about this place? It's dirt cheap. Then again, you get what you pay for. I'm sure most people would be willing to pay an extra dollar or two per dish in exchange for sanitary conditions (meaning, invest in one of those insect zappers. They're not that expensive) alone. A little courtesy from the servers and better food would help as well.\r \r Go to this place ONLY if you're on a tight, tight budget, or if you're in the area, in need of food, and it's 3 am (closes at 4 am). Pros: Cheap Cons: Mediocre food, bad service, terrible parking more

best thai food in LA 6/29/2006

this place is cheap and DELICIOUS. it's got the yummiest, spiciest, best thai food i've ever had. I love the mint noodles in particular. The menu is huge and two people can eat for 10 bucks, and be completely full. My only complaints are that parking is horrible (an inept valet man and VERY limited street parking) and service can be really slow. But, whatever: the food makes it all worth it. more
