NO REFUNDS HERE 2/27/2012

NO REFUNDS HERE. Your hair is your best accessory and when Kristin (salon owner) takes the ""don't care; it's not my problem"" attitude, thats a RED flag. I had a severe reaction to a product they used on my head and sought medical treatment. I lost time at work and accumulated medical bills. Kristin could care less about my feelings and medical status. I alerted her to the issue and hoped she'd take action to avoid further damage to other clients and asked for my money back. It took her days to decide that she wasn't going to refund me a dime. I was supposed to replace my hair extensions with this salon but; when the salon owner is more concerned with keeping my $500 rather than building customer loyalty, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. When the owner is setting the example of customer service and she lacks a high end pamper attitude, you only wonder what that's doing for the staff. You can put a salon on oak street, but doesn't mean its high end. I learned the hard way and I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. more

Bought a groupon for the brazilian treatment 4/16/2011

I love going to the Thomas West salon to get my hair done, but I decided to try the groupon and get a discount. First problem is I was notified when I sat down in the chair, that I would need to pay $100 extra if I wanted the full strength treatment. She said the discounted version would only last 3-4 weeks vs. 4-6 months. So I said fine whatever. I noticed that her tools were not clean and she scraped off tones of gunk in front of me and they still looked really gross. I still said fine whatever. But what I'm more ticked about than anything is that it's the second day and my hair is already getting curly. I know the process...no water or working out, no hair clips (I've been doing this process for 5 years). Go to a good salon rather than save a few bucks, which I'm not even sure I really saved with the add on. more

Average at best 10/9/2008

Went to this place on the Pretty City deal only to be told (not at the time I made the appointment, mind you) after having gone all the way there, after I was sitting in the chair, after I'd gone through the consultation, after the colorist had begun mixing the color, that the ""single process color"" deal applied to a root touch up. What?! So, it was double the special price for her to mess up my hair. She seemed incapable of conceiving of a hair color between hers & my own. I should never have said ""Like yours, but not as dark."" I should have brought a picture. She kept saying that if she didn't make it as dark as hers there'd be almost no change. It's really dim in there, very hard to see, so I deferred to her. She said she would see what brainstroming ideas she could come up with, since she didn't want to have it be too dark & have me ""freak out,"" saying I seemed like the type who would. This made me feel as though I were being unreasonable and rude and should lighten up, which is not an instinct I should have followed. Before she started, she said she did it not quite as dark as hers, but let me tell you, it's darker. She said she'd use a tone that would add warmth. She didn't. The color is very dark & VERY drab. It was too hard to tell before I left due to the poor lighting & the fact my hair was still mostly wet. It was nearly dry when I got to my well-lit home and I was pretty surprised. It's not the end of the world. Luckily it's semi-permanent & will lighten so I can go somewhere in a month or 2 to have them warm or brighten it a little. Save yourself the time & trouble. I heard great things about the owner & another colorist in a lot of reviews (Kristin & Jaimy) and it wasn't either of them who did this to my hair, since according to the receptionist who booked me, they are booked all month. I thought I'd walk out with a Kate Beckinsale sort-of hair color, but ended up super dark hair that has an awful, unnatural tone to it. Pros: receptionist was nice Cons: don't go with a colorist who hasn't been recommended to you more

Highly recommended for bridal alterations! 8/27/2007

I was recently married and had my wedding dress altered at Salon of Dressmaking. I was very happy with the results, the alterations were perfect and the lady who owns it (not sure of her name) is very knowledgeable and experienced. I also had a veil made here and it was beautiful. The alterations are very reasonably priced and the veil is a huge bargain compared to other bridal shops. The owner/seamstress has a lot of experience with what looks good and me being a very uninformed bride to be, I really appreciated her advice. Pros: Excellent work and attention to detail, performed in a timely manner, great value Cons: Hard to get to, especially in a car, b/c it's near the busy Rush/Oak Street area more
