Saladang Song is one of the worst tasting Thai restaurants that I have ever been to. Being Thai myself, I could say firsthand that Saladang Song is not authentic Thai food. The ...

Bad soup but service attitude was the one gave it a thumbs down 5/28/2008

We went to saladang song few weeks ago on a friday night to celebrate my broth-in-law's birthday. There were 6 of us. Since my dad loves the Thai tong-yum soup, so we ordered the soup for everyone. \r \r When soup was served, we were really surprised how bad it taste, in fact, it didn't even look like tong-yum soup at all, it tasted like someone poured vinegar into boiling water and dump some veggies inside and call it a tong-yum soup. \r \r After a few spoon of the soup, we decided that we couldn't take it anymore and have to complain to the restaurant. The waitress passed our complaint to one of the managers. To our surprise, the manager came and started accusing us that ""if the soup taste that bad, then why you drank almost half of them?"" and he continued on saying that ""I can't send them back to the kitchen because you finished almost half of the soup already""\r \r My sister was soo upset that she said ""We will not order this soup next time"" and to our bigger surprise, the manager raised his voice and said ""GOOD"". That soup-experience ruined our birthday celebration and we will never go back to saladang song again. more

Great Thai Food! 3/25/2008

I am not much of a thai food fan, but a good friend had her engagement party a Saladang Tsong this past sunday and it made me a convert. The food was excellent-- very flavorful, sweet and spicy. Had a chance to sample the chicken satay (average but good), beef salad (spicy and satisfying), and salmon choo chee (yum!). There was also a salad with a sweet clear dressing that was incredible and I plan on going back to see if I can get a bottle of my own! I am not sure of the prices, but I think its well worth the trip. Plus the decor of the restaurant is great and perfect for a warm summer night. Can't wait to go back there! Pros: parking is a breeze, beautiful decor more

Citysearch give wrong information 2/27/2008

It's a birthday party for my friend, we hope to get the best Thai food in town. As always, we searched from citysearch begining to worst night. The citysearch giving wrong infomation of Saladang and Saladang song phone number and address, which made us got wrong reservation place and a bun of us got to the wrong place, and when i got the Saladang they said there is no our reservation. We found out that our booked at Saladang Song because the phone number providing by citysearch is wrong. There are very confusing in formation of citysearch the famous web-searching.. Also, the citysearch gave the award of best Thai food 2004 to Saladang I wonder that it really mean Saladang or Saladang Song? more

Decent food, very very sub-standard service. 2/14/2008

I give this place an average overall because the food, while great, is usually overshadowed by somewhat lousy service.\r \r The waitresses are quite rude and abrupt. I know that Asian culture tends to be that way in some cases, but this is ridiculous. This place is making money HAND OVER FIST...the last thing they should do is give people - their clients - attitudes. I guess, as the saying goes, when your stomach is full, you don't give a sh--- (i.e. from an owner's point of view that is).\r \r What bothers me about the service at this place (or lack thereof) is God forbid you don't like something or there is something wrong with your food. They'll make you feel like YOU made the food go wrong OR that you have no right to complain.\r \r If you don't order something you like OR if it's not what you wanted (i.e. it turns out to be something different than what you expected), you're out of luck....the waitress will give you a blank stare and proceed to tell you that you should have known better. Uhhh...no...when it's my money they are taking from me, they will be the one's who know better.\r \r Well...anyway...it's an OK place I guess...the ambiance is good and they are always busy. At least you can go across the street and eat at Gales if you don't like it. Pros: Nice ambiance. Cons: Super lousy service and food return policy. more

Worst thai restuarant, waste of my money and evening there 1/24/2008

I went today after reading nice reviews. But was totaly dissappointed. Dont go there if you are looking for a thai restuarant. Ordered Tom Yum soup. This one can easily bottom my list of the ones I tried. Ordered Cat fish, But that was not a thai dish. Very sweet and fish was kind of hard. You wont find the spicy thai dishes, you normaly wish for. Only thing good was the sizzling beef. I would not want to go back there to waste my money. Cons: bad cooking more

consistently delicious Thai 1/6/2008

Don't be fooled by the toothpick-thin waitresses and industrial warehouse decor; this place has very good Thai food. I always get the chili basil leaves with beef -- it's exceptional! They also have many creative and delicious specials. One note of caution: their pad thai is just average (it's served omelet-style with the egg on the outside) so I'd stick with their other noodle dishes, curries or ""hot stuff"" dishes. Pros: cheap, delicious Thai food Cons: industrial warehouse decor more

The Best Thai Food I've ever tasted. 11/26/2007

When you first enter, the atmosphere is very seductive, your seated and that's when the fun starts. Hou'rduerves are served and they offer hot or cold sake for birthday parties if needed. The service is excellent. I would recommend this restuarant to anybody who wants a good time eating Thai food. It got chilly and they abliged us with outdoor heaters, who could ask for anything more, and like I said before the food was excellent. If you could give them 10 stars I would. Pros: All around good time eating Thai food. Cons: Not having enough money to eat there everyday. more

Best Thai, Best Value, Best Service 11/3/2007

Everytime I go, I swear I will write a review, because it's THAT GOOD. Great ambiance, staff is always friendly and helpful, prompt and courteous service, and the food is just great. You can't go wrong with the beef satay or the pun klib (dumplings) for an appetizer. The Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and the Dry Chili Cashew Chicken are fabulous, each dish costs less than $8.00 and you get a generous portion. Consistently great place. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you go at lunch, you get a scoop of ice cream to finish off your meal. Pros: Service, Value, Food Cons: Popular place, you may have to wait more

Amazing Outdoor Dining! 11/2/2007

Insect in my soup and... 9/8/2007

The management didn't even acknowledge this! When I told the waitress about the insect, she saw it and asked me if I wanted a new bowl of soup. I declined. She apologized but then did nothing to remedy the situation and did not even report this mishap to the manager. When I got my check, it was for the full amount of the bill, with no offer of any remedy for the shock and public health threat of an insect in my soup. I paid the entire check, but when the waitress came to collect the receipt, I told her I was surprised they didn't do anything to ameliorate the terrible dining experience. She still didn't offer anything, like a free meal or dessert, or even a discount. I'm can't go back after seeing the black insect swim in my soup. more

BEST Thai food I ever had! 9/8/2007

I had my birthday party at this Restaurant and have a really good experience. They were able to hold more then 35 guest and I only requested for 25. I love their food choices everything tastes sooooo good! They even have a party menu for large group. They have different package whereas we can pick. Just everything is great!\r \r The only thing I can say Negative about this place is Parking. more

Great atmosphere bland food! 7/27/2007

It was a girls' night out and we were all excited to have some good Thai food. There was free parking but I wouldn't call it convenient since it was almost in an alley and random weird man were standing around shouting things! Inside the decorations were great. cute table settings and atmosphere. Our waitress was very nice; she warned us about the dishes we ordered and now I wish we had listened to her. The pat thai was nothing special I have had better from Thai take-out in downtown. In addition to that I ordered bbq beef, it was so dry and burnt that my razor sharp teeth couldn't chew through it!!! Since I was still hungry I ordered scallop and shrimp curry which I couldn't even get down! I ended up boxing the curry since I felt bad and threw it away as soon as i got out! I left the place hungry- along with my friends and all the money we spent went to waste and it wasn't exactly cheap! We all ended up going to In ""N Out afterwards not to starve! This place really let me down! I was expecting so much better! I love Thai food and this definitely was not Thai! I will never go back again even though i loved the atmosphere. Pros: atmosphere, service Cons: horrible food more

Do you need a box? 4/25/2007

I have been going to Saladang Song for years and absolutely love the food. Their beef salad is perfection, the meat is tender and the vegetables crisp with just the right amount of lime. The green curry with chicken and eggplant is my favorite. The decor is modern and the high ceilings open up the bright restaurant and the outdoor seating is just as beautiful with candles on the tables and a small water fountain on the side. The only thing I would change is the service. I've noticed the past few times, especially on rainy days since seating is limited to indoors, the staff appears too much in a hurry to seat the next party, making the ones still eating to feel rushed. The last time, we were a group of three and after having been served our food for about fifteen minutes, five different servers came by to ask if we needed a box. After the fourth ""inquiry"" it just became silly. All in all, I would still continue to go back for the food, but please work on the service - granted it was raining. more

Amazing Thai Food 4/23/2007

When I first saw that outside appearance of the restaurant, I was a little reluctant, but as soon as I stepped inside, I was impressed by their originality. Despite it being inside a warehouse, they made it creative and an appropriate dining atmosphere. I liked the mats on the table and the decorations. The service was also prompt. The server made sure my glass of water was never below the half line, so I was satisfied. \r \r The prices of the dishes are very afforadable. \r I highly recommend their pad thair. I've had my fair share of thai restaurants and so far, they have the best. \r I also recommend the mushroom stir fry. The sauce is really flavorful. \r \r I must say that Saladang definitely earned its high ratings in my opinion. Pros: service, food more

hip and trendy thai joint 4/9/2007

I normally don't enjoy overly-trendy Asian restaurants, but I surprisingly liked their thai cuisine a lot. Their presentation was really impressive- you could tell they put thought into it, which was a pleasant surprise considering the Thai places I went to where they just seemed to slab the food onto any plate. I ordered the yellow curry, and usually when I order curry at a restaurant it's usually risky, but this curry was pretty delicious! Also, even though the place looked scarily packed, we got seated in what seemed like 10-15 minutes. THey also have these cute hand-wrapped candies, which I couldn't get enough of! Pros: clean, trendy, good food, presentation more

Terrible customer service 4/3/2007

I dine out quite a bit both for pleasure and business so I consider myself to be a good judge when it comes to the overall restaurant experience. My family and I frequently go to the original restaurant Saladang. This was our first visit to the so called sister restaurant. The waitress brought 3 incorrect dishes out. When she brought the first ""screw up"" of the night, I kindly told her that we ordered the chicken dish and not seafood. The waitstaff made a terrible scene and would not take the dish back. I have never been to a restaurant where the customer wasn't right. The management made us keep the dish and pay for it on top of that. Since they realized they were in the wrong, at the end of the meal our waiteress disappeared. I had to ask someone to please give us our bill and then they took the time to ask us if we wanted any coffee or dessert. We did not receive one apology. My family and I are not the kind of people to ever make a scene or cause any sort of inconvenience, but in this case I was pretty furious. I will never step foot in this restaurant again even though the food is decent. more

BEST THAI IN CALIFORNIA 1/27/2007

Ambiance, food...superb 12/4/2006

the dude & i are big thai food junkies... so we've gone to lots of thai restaurants. this was one of his faves. the ambiance makes a relaxing evening to enjoy good food & good company. i liked their pad thai and sizzling beef platter (w/ yummy peanut sauce) the best. price is very reasonable... we paid under $50 for 3 entrees. more

Couldn't Get More Beautiful 11/25/2006

This is one of the most beautiful Thai restaurants I've ever been to in LA...the indoor decor is very contemporary and inviting, while the outdoor patio took my breath away. The food was good, but I was surprised when our waitress convinced me to order the seafood Pad Thai (when I wanted the original one) for a price she didn't tell me. Later, we found out the Seafood Pad Thai cost $19.95, much more than the $8.75 regular pad thai. Lesson is, don't let the pushy waitress tell you what to order! She also came by every 5 minutes to make sure my friend's bf was ready to order...when he kept politely asking for more time because he had just parked and barely had time to look at the menu. I guess she was having a bad day...therefore the impatience and pushiness. Otherwise, forgot her and just go for the food and decor! Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Pushy Waitress, Price more
