Saladang Song is one of the worst tasting Thai restaurants that I have ever been to. Being Thai myself, I could say firsthand that Saladang Song is not authentic Thai food. The ...

Good Thai! 11/22/2006

This was actually one of the first places I'd ever tried Thai food, years ago. I love their panang curry and their soups are hearty and very flavorful. Their pad thai was a touch greasy but VERY tasty. I'd definitely go back! more

Best Thai 11/17/2006

Cleanest thai restaurant I've been to. Their curries are so delicious! I actually like the more authentic restaurant out of the two. more

One of the better Thai places in San Gabriel Valley. 11/11/2006

If you have a date and wanted to try Thai Food, Saladang would be the place to go to. The food is decent, nothing to die for. The ambience is good enough for a first date. I wouldn't say it's the best bargain for your buck. But, it's not expensive. Pros: Ambience Cons: Parking more

WORST.SERVICE.EVER 11/3/2006

Food was OK...service was OK up until we were done with our food when we sat at our table for 45 minutes without anyone stopping by for any reason. The restaurant was not that full and they seemed to be fully staffed. After the 45 minutes, a bus boy handed us our check. Horrible service for just OK food. more

Beautiful&Romantic dinner 10/24/2006

I've been to both Saladang and Saladang Song. Saladang Song is perfect for nice and romantic dinner. The restaurant(patio) is beautiful and ambience is fantastic. Their dishes are very nicely presented. Their waitstaffs are very friendly. If you're concerned about presentation and ambience (date/taking out your friends), this is the place. If you're looking for good thai food in casual environment, go to the next door Saladang. Both Saladang and Saladang Song dishes are delicious and great, but just their ambience is different. Pros: Delicious food, friendly staff, beautiful patio more

for great thai dining experience 9/15/2006

For the price and atmosphere, I haven't been able to find a better Thai restauarant in the area. I dined here on wednesday night and it wasn't crowded. Reservations are recommended , especially on the weekends. It has a great atmosphere with tasty reasonably priced food. They have a wide variety appetizers with a number of noodles and salads on the menu. Even their take on traditional Pad Thai was unique. You can't go wrong in eating here. more

Great thai food! 8/26/2006

Been going to saladang (& saladang song) for a while now. Always solid service and food - although on busier nights, the quality does go down a bit. Never a problem making reservations and haven't had anything on the menu I didn't like! Slightly hard to find parking on Fridays & weekends, but usually you can find a spot in the back or on the street. Overall, a great thai food place! Pros: great food and very reasonably priced Cons: long waits on Fri/Sat/Sun; sometimes hard to park more

Keep on driving- this place is terrible 7/26/2006

When we first came to LA we really likes this restaurant but unfortunatly success has gone to their heads and now its an assembly line of rude service and bad food that is coasting on its reputation and attractive architecture. The last time we tried it we were running late and the host sat us at a table that was not completely bussed and the waittress got angry AT US for sitting at the table. she was beligerent and rude and (of course) screwed up our order. One of the dishes was a curry that was nothing but fat and gristle, the kitchen was clearly mad at us for arriving so close to closing time and thought they would show us how they felt with their disgusting cast offs. never again will I go there, but if YOU dear reader decide to give it a go I GUARENTEE you they will try and sell you an overpriced SEAFOOD PLATTER within 10 seconds of your butts hitting the seats. It was/is such a joke that we used to laugh about it when we were a frequent patron but no more. There is SO Much great Thai food in the San Gabriel Valley that this place deserves to close up shop. Just terrible terrible restuarant. Pros: Nice outdoor patio Cons: rude service, nasty bland food more

Best Tai Food EVER!! 7/13/2006

This place is the spot!! Not only is it just gorgeous inside and out put the prices are unbelievable! I highly recomend sitting outside, very romantic around sunset. Food is great! Tell everyone! more

Unfortunate, had potential 7/5/2006

Spacious, clean atmosphere they've created - SMART because it draws many patrons, obviously. WE will NEVER return to this neighborhood place. \r We finally dined there after always meaning to pop in, and the whole experience left a terrible taste in our mouths: service was disappointing - had potential, but then the waitress forgot to put in our order; which isn't the worst thing-it happens, but it took us flagging one of them down after 30 minutes to ask what the progress on our order was (place had 3 tables, including us, so they weren't busy). \r It was how the problem was handled that angered us the most. We had just wanted to cancel, they did not give us that opportunity, they then proceeded to RUSH out the 'prik king' (green beans) with red oily sauce which seemed like it had accumulated in another pan diluted with water poured on top. The worst overcooked green beans with no taste and unnecessarily spicy (from lack of care) we have ever tasted. So, we left that plate alone. They chose to not ask if there was a problem with the dish, and once we finally mentioned something (don't like to make too big a deal, but after second attempt at trying to enjoy the dish, we had to say something), they still did not offer to do anything about it. They then thought the whole affair was humorous. That was probably what was the most angering part, besides the belief that BAD food+BAD handling/service should not be paid for. \r There are just too many other thai places that are better. We wasted our time, and our money. Pros: Cleaner than most Thai Restaurants Cons: Quality Control more

Waayy Better Food than Other Thai Places 6/30/2006

I first visited Saladang 8 yaers ago and was not impressed. However, I gave it another chance about a month ago and been back at least 3 times since then. Having been in practically every restaurant in town, Saladang defintely operates with a system that is so efficient that no other resturant even comes close. The operators of Cheesecake Factory can take a lesson from Saladang's seamless service techniques. You never have to wait more than they quote andtables are cleared and reset within 30 seconds after a party has left (brackets we have timed them). Not to mention, their food is downright fantastic starting with the shrimp toast and fried calamari. Fried rice is tasty and the black pepper, garlic beef is delicious!!!!! And if you woudl like to cleanse your palate after having a tasty Saladang meal, I definitely suggest you try the sweet rice and mango, The best in town! This is definitely a keep in must go restaurant list. more

Great place 4/13/2006

I keep going back to this place because the food is delicious, the prices are low and the service is great. This place is not cheesy like a lot of places in LA and the waitresses and staff are genuinely nice and not snobby actor-wanna-be's. I go about once a week and have never been disappointed. Try their dry chilli cashew nut chicken with steamed rice or pad thai! Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious Pad Thai, Friendly service Cons: Crowded sometimes more

Its okay 3/21/2006

Soma Loma Ding Dong is okay. Thai food is average. more

Thai restaurant ""PARIS HILTON"" style!!! 11/11/2005

This restaurant serve an average thai foods that other thai restaurants do too. What saladang has that other thai restuarants don't, are the beautiful lady servers. The owner is smart enough the hire very beautiful and sexy young ladies to please the crowded American customers. So, all the boys out there, wanna dine thai food while enjoying a pretty view?? By the way, come early or waiting in line... but then, there's always that pretty girls to check out while waiting!!! Pros: Beautiful lady server, pretty ladies. Cons: average food, bad parking space more

I love this place! 10/30/2005

From all the times I have been here I have never had bad service or bad food. It is one of my favorite places to go when you want a nice romantic dinner or have a large group of people. And when the weather is great you can eat in the enclosed outdoor patio without pedestrians looking at what you are eating as they walk by like they do in Old Town. Pros: Large outdoor patio, Free parking, Friendly service more

A wonderful experience 8/29/2005

My husband and I decided to give Thai a try and, based on the reviews here at Citysearch, we went to Saladang recently. We were charmed with the place right from our entrance. The food was delicious, the service impeccable, and the cost was very affordable. I feel confident highly recommending this restaurant and look forward to our next visit so we can try even more wonderful dishes. Pros: Great food, Good parking, Great ambience more

keep going back for more 5/29/2005

yummy thai food that doesn't have the horrible aftermath the next morning. =p i can always enjoy getting my fill with delicious food without breaking my wallet at this restaurant. their fried bananas drizzled with rum and honey are just scrumptious! the restaurant is now a little more crowded and noisier than it used to be but the food hasn't changed one bit and is delicious as always. more

A beautiful delicious song 3/24/2005

If you're used to the cheap Thai food that more often than not looks and tastes like spicy Chinese food, Saladang Song will be a revelation to you. The food is fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. The overall quality is definitely worth the little extra cost over other local Thai restaurants. The ambience, especially on the walled-in patio on a warm evening, is relaxing and romantic. Give it a try. You'll be addicted. Pros: Excellent food, friendly staff Cons: Limited parking more

VERY authentic 12/14/2004

This is the best Thai food I have had BY FAR since leaving Bangkok, where I lived for two years, and I have searched extensively. When I am eating there, I close my eyes and feel like I am back in Thailand. Not only is the food outstanding, but the restaurant also has dishes from the provinces of Thailand which are RARE in most Thai restaurants in the U.S. I especially recommend the sticky rice with grilled meat (a specialty of the Isaan province), the papaya salad (frequently prepared poorly in the U.S.), and the fried corn fritters. It is a shame I am on the East Coast and only get to dine at Saladang Song on occasion. If you want to impress the staff, mention that you know that the restaurant name means red temple 2, which coincidentally is the name of the street where I lived in Bangkok Pros: Authentic, Delicious, Variety of dishes more

Thai food junkies paradise! 11/2/2004

It's great Thai - no question about that. I've eaten at most of the Thai places around, and it's a notch above the rest. The only problem is that it's ALWAYS crowded and always a wait. The restaurant makes you feel like you are eating in a warehouse - but, if you don't mind that, you'll get great food and good service. I, for one, usually get take out. Pros: Food, Value, Service Cons: , Noisy, Crowded more
