My friend told me about Rolf's when I needed a cake for my husband's surprise birthday party. I brought in a picture from a fishing magazine, and they copied it way beyond what I expected. I could not believe the detail of the artwork--but most importantly, the cake tasted amazing. The people at Rolf's were very nice and helpful. I will be ordering my daughter's birthday cake from Rolf's and will recommend them to my friends! more

I had heard okay things about their cakes and with Rolf's being the bakery of 3 of the seven weddings we went to this past summer..not impressed! This bakery is offered with our venue so we went in for the tasting and Sarah was rude and trashy. Could not get the concept of the cake we wanted and really only wanted us to do the ""package deal"" when we wanted to upgrade. She kept trying to back out of what we wanted so I gave up and agreed to what she said so we could get out. Also, the cakes from what we had seen did not look finished. The tasting was okay but the cake is a lot better with the other bakery we chose. If we are willing to spend the money for another bakery that should tell you something. When you are getting married you want someone who is going to make things easier not make things more difficult. I have also heard that a lot of brides got a cake that was not what they wanted. I would not go with this bakery and have heard from other guests that they did not like the cakes. Also, they had to shut down last year due to people getting sick because they ordered from a bad source. I know that things like that can happen but we did not want to take the chance again. Plus if people know that and then know where your cake came from then that is embarrassing..Sorry Rolf's.. more

Rolf's cakes are absolutely amazing! I was at an event where the triple vanilla bean cheesecake was served along with the hokey pokey, which is exclusive to Whole Foods. Oftentimes American-style cakes are way too dense or the cake itself is too dry, but Rolf has an authentic European style, as good as cakes I had in Germany. The vanilla mousse is so pillowy and you can even see flecks of vanilla bean in it. The cheesecake is in a thin layer, really letting the vanilla mousse shine, but adding a tang to each bite. Not the dense cheesecake you'll find at Eli's. The hokey pokey was amazing as well, the cake was so moist, and buttercream was so light and airy. Dark chocolate ganache on top was super rich, but in such a thin layer that it was not overpowering. Next time I need a cake for a birthday or other special occasion, I will definitely go to Rolf's. The staff we friendly, but cake was terrible. If you want bland and dry this is the place for you. Our wedding venue offers a discount if you use Rolf's for the cake, but if I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars for a cake I'd rather serve something that people will eat, rather than serving something that will look pretty, but be thrown out at the end of the night. I was recommended to visit this bakery by Kathy at Kasia's Bridal for my wedding cake. I called and asked for Fabiloa (as suggested by Kathy) however, she was not available. I did end up visting with Joanne. My visit was very informative. I was able to have a tasting with my finace and mother. I'm very happy to have made my appointment here. We did purchase a few of their delicious concoctions out of their cases to take home, we even were able to purchase a miniture cake with the flavor we chose for our wedding, which came in handy as we had guests coming over inthe evening, so we were able to get a consencous on taste. We all definitely enjoyed the selection and flavors. I felt like I was eat delicious imported european pasteries! Highly recommended. I will update my review after our wedding. Pros: Delicious more

Rolf's used to make the best chocolate cake ever. Then, about a year ago, I bought one for a family gathering and was so disappointed to find that it was just terribly dry and stale. I decided to give them another chance last week, hoping it was just a fluke. Same thing this time, just really mediocre and dry. I could have made a Duncan Hines cake myself for a fraction of the price that would have tasted ten times better. So disappointing. Cons: overpriced, poor quality more

\r I recently used Rolfs for my wedding cake and i highly recommend it. To be honest the only dislike was that the designs were a bit dated but you can take a picture and the Chef will create the design just as it is shown. The cake choices were superb and you can sample with or without the filling. The process was made very pleasent and enjoyable by the cake consultant. She was amiable to work with. I had a special 1st birthday for my daughter and i went to Rolf's for the cake, i will never go else where. The young lady who helped me was very detailed and helped me create the cake i was envisioning. The cake had 3 round tiers with different colors on each of them. It was the perfect center of attention and one of the main focal points of the party. Besides the colors there were details on each tier that were also different, each tier represented my daughters favorite t.v. character. The order was placed the same week of my party and Rolf's pulled it off! I will be a customer for years to come. Pros: best tasting cake more

Rolf's is the best! We have used Rolf's 5-6 times and every time has been fantastic. (Their whip cream cakes are awesome!) The events we have held have been for no less than 30 people and they still produce a quality product. We have referred our neighbors many times and they have had the same result. In addition, the service has been top notch. They have gotten every detail right and the cakes have been ready when they say they will be ready. How refreshing. If you want great baked goods made with quality ingredients (The fresh fruit in the whip cream filling...whoa!!!!) with great service, Rolf's is the only place to call. Pros: Great cakes. Rolf's Patisserie is really a hidden gem!. I can't tell you how happy myself and all of my friends have been since we have made the transition over to them from other bakeries. Not only are their products some of the best I have ever seen and tasted, they are extremely reasonable. You get the same quality and service if not better as the boutique bakeries downt town for a fraction of the price! Now I use them for just about everything: wedding cakes, pastries, b-day cakes, sculpted cakes, etc. They are located just north of the city, not a far ride at all and well worth the stop. Customer service has also been a treat, it seems to be one of the hardest things to find nowadays, they pay very close attention to detail and have key people responsible in the different departments. We recently celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary and got the most elegant cake from Rolf's.\r Everyone at the party loved the cake and said the buttercream was the best they've ever tasted!\r The cake was so beautiful, it was a centerpiece on its own. The staff at Rolf's was very helpful and knowledgeable. too. I will definitely order from Rolf's again! Pros: Delicious cake and buttercream at a reasonable price! more

I'm not sure why there are any positive reviews of Rolf's. The cakes are not even of caliber you would find in the local Dominick's, Jewel or at Costco. If this is for a wedding, birthday or celebration that you are accountable for the quality, then you should spend a few more minutes searching online for a better facility. There are a number of very good backeries in the Chicagoland area and there is no reason to settle for a second rate (or worse) place like this. I recently visited Rolf's and was very disappointed. I bought a cake for a birthday and it wasn't fresh at all. They told me that the pre-made cakes were fresh and were not sitting around. Well, I definitely don't believe that! My guests didn't want to tell me, but i know they didn't enjoy it. It was very embarrassing. I would not recommend Rolf's. Cons: Not Fresh all the time more

This Patisserie is in a class of its own! I was not familiar with Rolfs until i was refered to them by the Hotel in which i recently got married. I went there for a ""cake tasting "" and the overall experience was divine and first rate! Both my mother and father were very well pleased with the undivided attention that we received. Their designs and cakes are phenomenal. The day of my wedding was pure perfection and my cake was impeccable. Not only was it ravishing but the taste was satisfying. I am a caterer, and very capable of creating my own pastries. I started using Rolf's for my larger orders just to ease my work load. Now they do all of my pastry orders, large and small.\r Rolf's has everything from simple lemon bars to very detailed and elegant Cakes. I wouldn't serve anything less than the best. more

I just recently got married last month and I received my wedding cake from Rolf's and it was absoultly what I was looking for. The wedding cake was beautiful. The cake was moist and delicious everyone loved it and I'm still getting compliments on it. The cake was very touching to me for when I was a child my dad and me would go to a special restaurant and order cake and ice cream. My wedding cake tasted just like the cake I had with my dad 10 years ago because you see my father has passed away and my wedding cake brought back many beautiful memories. I would definitely recommend Rolf's to anyone and start your beautiful memories. more

Warning to all brides: you don't want to trust this place with your wedding cake. I ordered my wedding cake from them last fall. The cake tasted fine but the design was not what I ordered. When I tried to call and see if I could get at least some of my money refunded they managed to avoid my calls for weeks. When I finally got through to a live person she flat out refused to refund my mony. This is despite the fact that I remember seeing a cake similar to the one they gave me in their catelog and it was $100 or $200 less than the cake I ordered and paid for. Also, they told me that the frosting would be ganache and it turned out to be buttercream. I know if I pursued it I could force them to refund my money but overall my wedding was such a positive experience that I don't want to turn it into something negative. Just be warned: stay away! Cons: very untrustworthy, won't admit to or refund their errors without legal action more

Recently got married and met with Rolfs staff ""Which were great."" We had discussed my wedding cake in detail. Wanted my wedding cake to be five tiers and boxes turned so they weren't all even. I had a Christmas wedding and wanted the cake to look like WHITE fallen snow. I even brought them a colored picture of what I wanted. Needless to say as I walked into my themed winter white wedding reception and all I could see is my bright yellow wedding cake. I was upset!! As important as your one special day is and you count on the venders to do there one job. You would hope they wouldn't mess up something as important as your wedding cake. Very disappointed and don't want anyone to go through what I went threw. DO NOT USE ROLF'S FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY. I found out the hard way they are not reliable!! more

It's a little out of the way, but worth the drive. The cakes are absolutely delicious! They have a great range of flavors and the prices are very competitive.
