Roberts Residential Remodeling

A+ in all areas for the work done by Roberts Residential at our 100 year old house in St Paul.\r \r We invited 3 contractors into our house to go over what we thought we wanted and asked them to submit bids and ideas based on those conversations. We choose Roberts and we could not be happier. We choose Roberts because of their ideas, their references and the overall confidence they instilled in us.\r \r We went over design in early May 2013, confirmed design plans in late May and work began the 3rd week of June and completed last week exactly as the calendar Roberts gave us in June had detailed.\r \r This was a demo of the kitchen and part of a family room. The people who came to our house to do the work were neat ,clean and polite at all times. They were also very talented at what they do.\r The project manager (Chris) was in almost daily communication with us as to what we would expect the next day or two.\r \r John P came out when I thought the the project was done and went over every square foot of the job looking for things that we would never have considered a defect. We just finished an extensive kitchen remodel with Roberts Residential Remodeling and are extremely pleased. Every member of the team we worked with was a true professional, courteous, on time, efficient, and friendly. \r \r The work was completed on time. When we asked them to make small design changes along the way they were happy to oblige even when it meant a little more work. We will use them again for our next remodeling project with no reservations. more

We did a complete basement remodel with Roberts Residential in late 2011 and would highly recommend them. In fact, I have recommended them to many neighbors and co-workers. Compared to a prior remodeling project of similar scope with another contractor, this was a piece of cake. John Paggen took ideas from two people with very different styles and came up with design and materials choices that we loved. The detailed estimate was in line with estimates of other contractors but the materials were of much higher quality. There were no surprises, from the estimate to the regularly updated construction schedule. Every detail was handled. The project manager, Chris, was in constant communication. We would absolutely use them again. more

We completed our first project with RRR in January 2012, and our experience with them was so fantastic that they are now our first choice on any future projects. Out of a pool of multiple contracting candidates, John was able to win us over from our very first meeting with his very open, honest personality. We could tell right away that he takes a lot of pride in his company and the work they do. Although we interviewed other contractors, John had set the bar so high that no other pre-sales meeting was able to meet up with his knowledge, expertise and recommendations. Once we officially signed on with and hired RRR, they continued to exceed our expectations. Chris was extremely helpful throughout all of our planning meetings, carefully listening to what we wanted and making suggestions where appropriate. Throughout our project Chris provided us with regular phone calls to update us on progress, and was always easy to reach if we had questions. When unpredictable circumstances arose, such as unforeseen issues hidden within the walls, the team quickly gave us recommendations that fit within our time and budget expectations. It is the entire team at RRR that will continue to have us coming back as a first point of contact on any housing project in our future. more

We have contracted with Roberts' Residential Remodeling, Inc. twice in the last eight years. In 2004 we did a complete demo and remodeling of our kitchen, dining area and foyer. We replaced all millwork, windows and siding. In 2011 we completely remodeled our master bath and a guest bath. That project also included applying knock down texture to all ceilings in the house. Each time we were extremely plesed with their design staff. John and Chris are truly a talented and professional team. Their sub-contractors were very polite, professional, personable and tidy. I would like to add my comments on working with Roberts Residential Remodeling. After one meeting we were able to define our project and come within 2% of our budget. After visiting a new build with custom made kitchen cabinets, we knew RRR could deliver the look and quality we wanted in our new kitchen and family room addition. The project began within two weeks of contract signing and finished 90 days later on budget with some minor change orders that gave us the final result we were after. Great sub contractors and timely project management. We feel these guys listen, deliver on time and make promises they can keep. more

Rather than going on and defending against this I would suggest that if these accusations are true than this person should identify themselves and file a formal complaint with Department of Labor and Industry. The DLI governs our license and if there were true complaints such as these out there we'd hear about it from them or the BBB. more

I would give a negative star rating if I could. Words can barely describe the hell that Roberts Residential Remodeling put me and my family through. This forum does not have adequate space to list the months of nightmares endured. They are slow and refuse to hold to a timeline. There will be weeks when nothing happens. They cut corners wherever you are not watching -- both in workmanship and materials quality. They use more subcontractors than they ever admit to prior to signing a contract with them. They design their contract to allow them to add $ during the process, but make it look as if it's due to upgrades you want. They will pitch a fit if you do not make selections from vendors where Roberts Residential receives a kickback. They will lie, lie, lie and then lie some more. They do not pay all of their subcontractors -- and you will have to deal with angry subcontractors and/or their attorneys. I am not saying Roberts Residential cannot do great work. They can do fabulous work and do so frequently. I know because I checked out many references, including visiting homes and job sites. However, John Paggen is very clever and makes sure he keeps a certain amount of very happy customers while he uses, abuses and scams other customers. Good for you if you fall into the happy customer category. A world of woe if you are chosen to be put through the mill. Choosing to work with Roberts Residential is at best like playing a game of heads or tails with your project. If you're on the winning side, you'll be happy. But I can tell you from a place of deepest regret -- because I was a customer John Paggen chose to screw over -- you will pay dearly if you are on the losing side. John Paggen is very talented at remodeling when he chooses; however, he also excels at cheating people when he chooses. more

I just had my condo remodeled by Robert Residential Remodeling and I could not be happier. They did a great job of helping me through the design process and working with me to make sure everything turned out great. The process used here is very organized and professional and the quality of the work is exceptional! Roberts Residential Remodeling Inc recently finished our unfinished basement and did an excellent job. John Paggen's creativity throughout the process was much appreciated and as a result we have a unique and contemporary lower level. Communication with all members of the project was excellent and my phone calls were always returned promptly. We have lived in the same house in Bloomington for over 35 years and also the same kitchen cabinets, floors, lighting, etc. The decision was made to find a contractor to re-do our kitchen/dining area ? including knock out a wall and move windows. We decided on Roberts Residential Remodeling. They helped us with the planning all the way through the project. The work was presented in detail with scheduled completion events so that we knew exactly what the payments should be upon that phase of completion. The staff at Roberts was very helpful and congenial and the workers knew what was to be done and did it in a professional manner. They were very friendly and accommodating and cleaned up promptly. Not only did John Paggen and Roberts Residential help us remodel and build our dream house, they did it on time and on budget. Our Craftsman Bungalow in South Minneapolis was architectually beautiful and we wanted to preserve that. Roberts was the only contractor we found that seemed to understand that and come up with a great design and plan that fit our old house and our ""modern"" lifestyle. They worked with my wife, an interior stylist, to integrate her creative ideas and our result was a home featured in both the 2006 Parade of Homes, but the 2007 Linden Hills Home tour. I'm the administrator for Roberts' Residentail and have been for almost 10 years. I do not recall, nor have I been able to find a file for any project with the ""millers"". Our employees are treated well; we take great pride in our work and have always paid our subcontractors and vendors. We would appreciate it if people where a bit more honest when writing their reviews. more

Roberts Residential has got to be the worse contractor in twin cities. Not only was their work terrible, but they could never finish ontime but they way that treated the guys that worked for them is just awful. Plus I hear the the have a habit of not paying out the contractors that work for them. There work was not what they promised, the quality and determination to finish the work was just not there. I would not recommend this company to anyone that I know or even don't know. more

If you don't have specific time frame and if your project does not involve any excavation, these guys are alright. If you need to do any civil work, sub it out yourself. This company consistently hired bad subs for my job and did little by way of managing them. It took months to get to the substantial punchlist and has been over 2 months and it's still not done. My neighbor loved them but they have nothing but create headaches for us. If you hire them, get a specific completion date and hold retainage until final completion.
