Used to be but not anymore 2/28/2010

We have eaten at Rays at least 40 times within the past several years, we have reserved tables at holidays such as Thanksgiving ,birthdays and special occasions like anniversaries. We have eaten there both Dinners and Brunch.\r \r The last few times were all disappointing. The wait staff is all new and less experienced, they don't have any idea that we are regulars, nor do they care, I guess they don't take the time to make notes in the computer under our name, even though they ask for your name each time-odd) \r \r We have been seated at the worst tables these past few times, the corner booth in the line of traffic, or an end table near the dirty dish tray when we had a party of 6,and spent about 450.00.\r \r This last dinner instead of my usual blackened tuna (which is very good most of the time) I just wanted the soup and salad, I ordered a dinner salad and requested greens, it was not offered on the menu and the waiter proceeded to tell me to pick one of the 3 salads offered. I persisted because they always offered it before and it is not ""special"" so he returned from asking the cooks if this was ""allowed"" \r When it arrived it was basically a Wendy's salad-no not as good. The oysters were lousy, the lobster bisque both my husband and I ordered were way too salty, his tuna was okay but not as delicious as it used to be.\r \r We will no longer be going to Ray's Killer Creek, too bad, it was great to have a close by place that was always reliable for a great meal. Now it is similar to a Atalanta Cheese Cake Mall type restaurant . Not to insult that restaurant but it is a fraction of the price of Ray's. Pros: food is good Cons: service, seating , attention to detail over priced more

Worth a visit, one of the best in atlanta 2/4/2010

We had a reservation and had to wait 10 minutes, which was annoying, but in the end worth it as we waited at the bar. The bar had a great musician going, and the music was a perfect volume.\r \r The fodo we had was great, although we both had steaks, so i cant judge the other entree's. The creamed corn was perfect and the calimari appetizer was also quite good. The calimari had fried banana peppers mixed in, which added a nice sweetness to it.\r \r The main compliant we had was that our water was not up to the job of a fancy restaurant (or barely any restaurant). He got the order in fine and the food arrived in a timely manner, but he forgot to bring out bread, and forgot to bring out the wine. We had to ask where the wine was, and he finally remembered the bread right before the steaks came out.\r \r Overall we would definitely go back as we live close to it and its the best steak place in Roswell/ Alpharetta. It is pricey, and not quite up to say a Bones downtown, but very very close. Pros: good atmosphere, great bar area, awesome food Cons: service was sub par, expensive more

Nice attention to detail 10/7/2009

I took my older son here on a Wednesday night for dinner while his younger brother was on a school trip. It was my son's first time at Ray's, and he loved the atmosphere, comparing it to the ""clubhouse-y"" feel of Atlanta's little gem, Canoe. One thing that I find both restaurants have in common is lighting too dim for proper menu reading, and this is a nuisance. Our waiter, McCook, -- a Zambian with impeccable manners and a beautiful accent, ask for him when you go-- came over and attended to our every need, even helping my son decide on a main. We had the crispy calamari to start, and my son had the ribeye, medium rare; I had the salmon Oscar. His steak was delicious, but a little gristly 'round the edges, even for a ribeye. My dish was beautifully prepared and presented; the asparagus was perfect, the bernaise sauce was perfect, the mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about, but still good, but the salmon itself was scant. I expected a much nicer piece of fish for $30. That said, it was cooked with absolutely no error, and tasted delicious. I was treating my son, who didn't get to take an exciting class trip, so we had dessert as well. My son wanted the chocolate cake --which was not on the regular menu, but the special prix-fixe menu-- and he hated it. He said it was dry and spongy...yuck. It was especially disappointing because our waiter had warned that it was ""really rich"" which was what my son was looking forward to. I had the creme brulee, a dessert I typically try wherever I can find it, and it is the very best I've ever had. It was partly the sugar crust (amazingly and delightfully crackly and thick) and partly the outstanding fruit garnish. The strawberries were a person's idea of the perfect strawberry: juicy, slightly firm, sweet, and fresh; and the blueberries, fruity and delicious. There could have been bricks under all that wonderful stuff and it would still have been good, but the custard was lovely and not at all jelly-like. It was smooth and you could smell the vanilla as you were eating it. Wonderful. Our bill was a disappointment, because I feel that it was a little overpriced for the mains, especially, but overall the experience was great, and I'll be back; next time with my whole family. Just as a side note, when I've had a particularly wonderful meal, something strange happens to me: I get dizzy; kind of like I've been on a roller coaster. I am happy to say that I left Ray's dizzy and delighted tonight. :) Pros: Best creme brulee and best waiter Cons: terrible chocolate cake, big bill more

Great service, great food 8/4/2009

They are known for steaks, and seafood. Have early bird deals for a great price. Lunch is the best deal in town for a buiness type lunch. Bar is well stocked, and when you order a drink at your table the service is fast! Pros: Food is the best, especialy sea food Cons: A it loud more

For the money go to Bones 3/15/2009

I ordered the bone-in ribeye special for almost $50. The steak was OK and the mashed potatoes were nothing special either. When the soup came for the other two in my party I had flag down another server to ask for spoons. I could see half way into my double shot of espresso which I just refused. The service staff was young and amateur. The creamed spinach consisted of rue, a light dusting of spinach, and a thick topping of cheese, just awful. Pros: Not too far to drive Cons: Overpriced, Average Service, Food OK more

Sports Bar 3/7/2009

Lots of tvs. Great buffalo shrimp. Lots of tvs to watch sports. Friendly service. Nothing special with ambience. more

Great Food and Service! 2/10/2009

This is a great restaurant that I would recommend for everyone. The Maytag bleu cheese chips are to die for, and so is the filet. Wonderful soups, salads, and seafood. \r \r \r Pros: Good service, and short to no wait if you have a reservation Cons: Somewhat pricy, but worth every penny! more

Wonderful Atmosphere - Classic American Steakhouse 8/26/2008

If you are a steak fan - this restaurant is for you. Both our steaks and side items were prepared perfectly. The drinks were delivered fast and the service was top notch. Excellent experience. We will be back and often Pros: Great Service, Great Food, Live Music more

Incredible steak and great service 8/25/2008

My wife and I went in on Saturday evening for our anniversary. We had some of our friends recommend Killer Creek because of the great steak and seafood. I had a Kansas City Strip that was to die for and my wife had the seabass and crabcake combo. Will was our server and we never wanted for a thing. If you want a great dinner with great service in the Alpharetta area I can't think of a better place. Pros: A little pricey but worth it Cons: was a little noisy more

Bad food, great jazz entertainment 8/17/2008

My stomach turns to think of how bad the food was last night. My ""medium"" steak was cooked ""well done"" if not ""charred to shoe leather."" Had I been eating in the dining room instead of the lounge I would have sent it back. And the sauce served with it was gagworthy. It would have tasted better on pancakes it was so sweet. The frazzled (but professional) server was short-staffed in a full to overflowing lounge, so I decided against sending it back and, instead, vowing to never eat here again. I also had the chopped salad, which boasted hearts of palm, peppers, chickpeas, egg, olives, tomato - which came with overdressed iceberg lettuce and about a teaspoon of the accoutrement - combined. A couple chick peas, a molecule of hearts of palm here and there, I never saw any egg or peppers. This place is way over-rated. The others at my table - there were 5 of us - weren't thrilled with their food either. One got the $38 broiled seafood platter and could barely eat the rubbery lobster tail. What a huge disappointment. But - the upside is that the jazz band in the lounge was amazing and the reason why we decided to sit in the lounge instead of the dining room. I would go back for drinks only when this band is playing - I'd just skip the food. Pros: The jazz band Cons: Everything else more

Best steakhouse in Alpharetta 8/24/2007

I had such a memorable experience here!! The service was great, very friendly and the food was fantastic. My steak was cooked perfectly. I thought for the portions that we received, the prices were very reasonable. Much more reasonable than Stoney River. Very creative martini menu. My new favorite restaurant. Pros: EVERYTHING!!! Cons: turning left into the parking lot during rush hour more

Too noisy 2/14/2007

I am disappointed for the first time due to noiseness. We couldn't hear each other. It was even hard to hear the waiter. Wouldn't recommend this place as a romantic spot. It is not a best place for the romantic dinner on Valentine's Day. But food and service were good, nothing special as far as being called a steakhouse. There are better steakhouses in Alpharetta. Pros: Valet parking, service Cons: noisy more

no so good! 10/9/2006

I expect more when I have to pay $30.00 a plate........I think that my food was pre-cook and that's why it was too dry! overall, just ok more

Last meal right here 6/6/2006

Prompt seating with immediate service from our waiter. Drinks were brought quickly and replenished before a finger could be lifted. The salmon was incredible and my friend raved about his tenderloin. Even the little girl in our group ate all of her food without a complaint. Vegetables were crisps and flavorful. The coffee was a perfect ending. Spent an hour and 45minutes at our seat and didn't notice once! Will revisit the next time I'm in Atlanta. Pros: variety , wine selection, business friendly Cons: average high end cost more

huh? no wine list? 5/8/2006

I used to like killer creek but I have been disappointed the last few times I was there. The service is so bad the last time I was there that the waiter told me we dont have a wine list. Just tell me what you want to drink, we should have it. I been there many times and I am not stupid!!!! more

Excellent Brunch! 4/17/2006

I had Easter brunch here this year and it was AMAZING. The food was out of this world and the service was superb. There are several stations ranging from eggs and bacon to salmon, mussels and prime rib, to cakes, chocolate dipped strawberries and cookies. Delicious! AND it was only $26/person which is a great value compared to the higher priced downtown restaurants with only a sample of the selection that Killer Creek offered. Their preferred seating is great and we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. A truly great experience! Pros: Complimentary Valet, Great ambience, Good for families more

THE BEST CALAMARI!! 12/26/2005

I have had a lot of calamari in my time... never have I had calamari like at Killer Creek. It is prepared in a different way - an excellent way... with additional flavors of peppers. It to ""kill"" for!! more

one of my favorites 6/5/2005

We really enjoy this restaurant - wonderful food, wine and good service. Always a treat for special occasions. Have never had a substandard, or even borderline meal. The steaks are GREAT!!! Pros: location, atmosphere more

Good service, ok menu, long waits 2/24/2003

This was just a run of the mill upper class restaurant. It had a good wine list and one of the best lobster bisque that I have had in the sounth. That being said, I thought it was overpriced and not really that impressive. Save your money and go somewhere else. Pros: Lobster bisque, Wine List, Service Cons: bang for buck, food just ok, long waits more

Best of Alpharetta... Killer creek?? 2/7/2003

There is nothing wrong with Killer creek, it's Ok...But it is not the best of Alpharetta, there are many better restaurants. In fact if you compare Killer Creek to all the other steak houses in Atlanta it is the lowest rated at 6.6 more
