Worth The Trip 5/21/2007

I came from work in New Jersey to meet friends for dinner and it was well worth the trip. We had outdoor seating - which I recommend on a nice evening. The service was pleasant and attentive, without being pushy or bothersome. Our waitress seemed to be in a happy mood and was helpful and patient with us while ordering, as some of our party was new to Thai food. We ordered the chicken curry puffs, chicken satay and papaya salad - all were excellent. I had the Pad Thai, which was excellent. Our table also had the Drunken Noodle, which was done nicely. It was a pleasant atmosphere, with great food and all reasonably priced. It's the best Thai food I've had this side of Hoboken, NJ. Pros: outdoor seating, efficient service, great food for a reasonable price Cons: dessert choices were limited more

Sripraphai - Doesn't live up to the hype 5/5/2007

Been here a few times to get the real scoop. On weekend evenings, expect a wait before sitting down, but not too long, say 10-15 mins. Tasty food, decent portions, nothing earth-shatteringly good, very salty. Decor is nothing special. The rooms, loud and crowded. Some might say ""festive""; others, too loud. Entrees are $7.50 to $14+. WATCH OUT for overcharges on your bill--they've done that to us every time we've gone. It's intentional, since it's happened a few times. (Don't know about you, but in an all cash business, it really ticks me off to be nickeled and dimed.) Worst of all was our service. We waited 40 mins. for our dishes, while our waitress served her later-arriving ""regulars"" first. No one apologized, our waitress never returned to our table--not for water, nothing. We paid our bill through the busboy and left unthanked, unlike the regulars who departed (before us!) amidst smiles and thank yous. Very disappointed. We'll try Jackson Heights for comparable food, better service, and cheaper prices. They shouldn't treat newcomers like this or they won't have any more regulars. more

Hop on the 7 to this gem; Best Thai in the five boroughs. 4/22/2007

This was some of the best Thai that I have had. Their curries are spectacular and their appetizers are fantastic. The Fried Pork and Crab roll was really good and the Thai salads are outstanding. The appetizers are reasonably sized, but you better bring your appetite for the entrees, because you are going to get more delicious food than you can handle. \r \r On nice evenings ask to be seated in the garden. Being outdoors helps to suppress some of the volume of the other diners. The occasional sound of the 7 train doesn't detract from the ambience. Just get there early if you want to get a table, or get together with lots of friends as they will take reservations for five or more. We finished dinner on a Saturday night at about 9:15 PM and the place was still packed and there were over 50 people waiting on the sidewalk for a table. The kitchen closes at 9:30PM so I hope they all got a seat. \r \r As for price, this is perhaps one of the best bargains around. Dinner for four with four appetizers, four entrees, four beers and two thai ice teas with tip came to $110. This is a cash only restaurant. \r \r Only minor annoyance was that they forgot to bring out two of our orders, but when we reminded them, they pleasantly brought it to us. The service was friendly and helpful and there was no problem with substitutions or requesting spiciness levels.\r \r So Manhattanites, hop on the 7 and Brooklynites travel north to get one of the best Thai experiences around. Pros: Food, Ambience, Price, Service Cons: Location, Noise Level Inside, Occasional 7 Train sounds more

Go somewhere else. Don't believe the hype! 4/5/2007

I never really been a fan of Thai food unless it's the satay. My friends and I decided to try it last saturday. \r I'll give it props for being one of the more authentic Thai cuisines but I don't think it's the best out there. Their prices are relatively high for a place in Woodside, Queens (You'd think you're eating in the east village). If you want better food, go to Bangkok House on 46th St./ Restaurant Row or Spice near NYU. Their meals were much better and reasonably priced. \r I ordered their drunk noodles w. chicken. The portion was puny for an entree, chicken was crumbly like ground pork particles, and they burned the chilis and noodles. I had a Longan drink but the longan looked old and tasted funny. The Thai Iced Tea was warm even with ice in it. Both drinks probably came right out of the can and unrefrigerated!\r My friends also had tiny portions and were not satisfied by the food. I did like their chicken satay but it wasn't the best satay and not worth the price. \r They were slow with some of the orders and got my friend's order totally wrong. Only the young lady pouring us water seemed pleasant.\r Definitely not impressed by the food and service but there were a lot of people there having dinner. \r Try it for yourself but I would've been happier eating at Pizza Boy II, New China III, Stop Inn Diner, Subway's or even McDonald's, which are MUCH better places in the neighborhood. Pros: They had a TV and lots of people during dinner to suffer the same fate Cons: Terrible small-portioned food, bad service, Not worth the price and not worth going back more

Best Thai in NY 3/6/2007

Be forewarned you'll probably have to wait for a table but trust it is completely worth the wait. The food is authentic and fresh and their service is pretty good as well. Their menu is extensive and has everything from noodles to rice dishes to curry, fish, soups. Lots to choose from and everything was quite good. The catfish salad is a good and unusual appetizer but it's incredibly spicy (and I usually eat spicy but it was so spicy I had to stop eating it). Excellent - green curry was homeade and fresh and I could taste the different flavors of lime, curry, cilantro, chicken, etc. Some places just add lots of sugar and curry but this place balances all the flavors very well. One negative comment is that it was a bit oily (but I was able to ladle it out before eating). Their cocunut rice is PERFECT. Their drunken noodles are excellent as well. Pad See Yew is standard but you're better off getting more flavorful dishes. Cheap prices (better than the city). Decent wine list and beer selection. They've renovated and it looks between a family queens shop and semi-trendy manhattan eatery. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Pros: Affordable, Excellent Thai Food Cons: Wait for table more

Great Thai 2/1/2007

A great place for Thai food. Their menu has some of the most traditional trademarks of the Thai cuisine, but also includes lots of dishes that you won't find at most Thai restaurants in the city. The place is always packed with people, and can be noisy. The staff isn't the most attentive; however food is usually served promptly. Some of my favorite dishes are the papaya salad with dry shrimp and peanuts, the green mango salad, the pad see ew, the shrimp with curry sauce and mushroom (very spicy!) and the steamed tilapia with soy sauce ginger and scallion. The restaurant is a couple of blocks away from an express stop on the 7 train which makes it very easy to access. Sripraphai is definitely worth a quick trip to Queens. Pros: Great authentic Thai Cons: Noisy more

Don't Believe The Hype 1/20/2007

We went to this place to see what all the hype was about. It turns out that the reviews are ridiculously over-rated. The food was terrible and the service was no better. Sure, the prices are great, but I guess you get what you pay for. The Pad Thai Noodles was bland and dry, the Massaman Curry Chicken was cold, the Fried Fish Cakes (appetizer) was like rubber and extremely difficult to cut into. The service was terrible and the waitresses were extremely rude. It's as if the 9.3 Citysearch rating has gone to their heads, because they were very arrogant. We have eaten at several Thai restaurants, and there is no way this place is the best in NYC. Sea Thai in Brooklyn is 10 times better. Bangkok Cuisine or Thai Austin in Forest Hills is also better than this place. We were very dissapointed with Sripraphai. Don't believe the hype. Pros: Cheap Cons: Food & Service more
