The most Authentic Thai food you will ever find 5/24/2008

If you know variety of real Thai dishes, you will like this place a lot. If you don't then I don't know you will find it different from other Thai restaurants. \r \r I am a Thai girl, have lived in the states for 3 yrs. \r I live in DFW Texas area. I always eat out and Thai food is definitely my preferred.\r \r I tried as many new Thai restaurants as possible in DFW or when I'm on vacation. What I'm looking for is an authenticity of Thai food and that's what I found in Sripraphai. ( oh I also cook many Thai dishes sometimes.)\r Sripraphai may not be the best Thai restaurant for everybody, however, if you love real Thai taste you will not be regret.\r \r To enjoy Sripraphai the most, I recommend if you have Thai friends who can expose you to new delicious dishes other than RED/GREEN or Pad Thai or drunken noodles. Some of you who like plain Thai dishes that most restaurants adjust the western taste to it, you might not like Sripraphai.\r This place suits people who want to discover new Thai dishes with rich and authentic taste.\r \r I just visited Sripraphai in May 2008 here what I tried and you may want to order.\r \r TRY fried red snapper with sour and spicy (and a bit sweet) mango sauce $18.00\r or fried cat fish with the same sauce. $13.00\r TRY Kang SOM with fried egg in it. (light soup( no coconut milk) with spicy and sour taste.) $8.00 \r TRY Nam Tok noodles soup. ( Dark Soup)\r and when I say spicy and sour remember most Thai dishes always carry sweet taste, so don't be scared.\r \r Oh The good quality Fish Cake or Shrimp cake supposed to be a bit chewy and bouncy, not just soft.\r Shrimp cake was awesome.\r \r I also had known tha t Sripraphai has secret Thai Tea recipe. ( I guess Thai coffe too.) It's good trust me, at least it's good for most Thai people. It was made fresh daily and to make it you need boiling water that's why when they serve it, it might not be cold enough. Just let the server know you need more ICE.\r Pros: Authenticity more

good, authentic thai 3/31/2008

I've ordered some dishes at Sripraphai that I've absolutely loved and I've ordered dishes that were practically inedible. However, I feel that the good outweighs the bad. They make the best beef satay that I have ever had. I especially love the peanut sauce. Other dishes I can recommend are the drunken noodles, massaman curry, and pad see ew. I ordered the garlic chicken (which I've eaten at dozens of other thai restaurants) and it was absolutely awful and salty. Overall I recommend Sripraphai if you know what is good. The food is so authentic and prices are great. Pros: some amazing dishes, low prices Cons: servers can be unattentive, not all dishes are good more

be sure to carry cash!!! they dont take debit or credit card 12/12/2007

I always check with city search before I go anywhere to eat. But this time city search disappointed me. I didn?t knew that they don?t take credit card....the overview of the restaurant on this site should have mentioned it. We didn?t had much cash with us so had to order accordingly. I liked their food. But the Pad thai seemed to have too much sauce which I didn?t liked. But I could feel that it is a popular spot for thai food lovers. We decided to go there again to try some of the items we couldn?t try this time. Cons: dont take debit or credit card more

Downhill after the renovation 10/1/2007

I used to rate Sripraphai as #1 Thai food in NYC. My mother was Thai, and I grew up on great Thai food here and in Bangkok, so I'm not just talking out my you-know-what. I still love the bakery, but this place isn't what it used to be. Ever since Sripraphai was renovated and got all bistro-y, the food has gone slightly south. When I ate here this past spring, a waitress informed me that tofu could not go into the Penang curry for my strictly-vegetarian Hindu friend. This struck me as ridiculous, and it defies logic. So I ate the curry alone -- it was too oily, although the fact that it was far too spicy (full disclosure: I almost *never* think anything is too spicy) kind of masked the taste. I did stock up on Thai desserts from the fridge, and those are still great. If you're already dead-set on Thai food in Queens, you should consider taking a quick cab ride to Zabb for some food from NE Thailand, instead. Pros: dessert, improved decor, food is still good Cons: food used to be better! more

BEST Spring Rolls & Coconut Rice 8/21/2007

My first visit for a friend's bday was pretty no frills: the food was good, the atmosphere mediocre. This second visit was a completely different exp.! They sat us in the outdoor patio area that I didn't even realize was there! My atmosphere rating for this restaurant increased dramatically. In spite of the VERY slow service & more than an hr. of wait time for our entree, the food was still wonderfully redeeming. The crispy watercress salad was so delicious that I devoured the squid, something I'd normally shy from. It was better than the shrimp in the salad! The spring rolls are prob. the best I've ever had. Upon second try, the Pad Thai was even better than I remember it. My boyfriend got the Panang Curry. While it was hot enough to put hair on your chest, it was SO tasty! I kept stealing my boyfriend's coconut rice, which I suggested he get w/ his entree. Overall, this IS my fave Thai restaurant I've ever had the pleasure to dine in! Pros: Affordable food. Best Thai I've ever eaten! Cons: Slow service. more

Worth The Trip 5/21/2007

I came from work in New Jersey to meet friends for dinner and it was well worth the trip. We had outdoor seating - which I recommend on a nice evening. The service was pleasant and attentive, without being pushy or bothersome. Our waitress seemed to be in a happy mood and was helpful and patient with us while ordering, as some of our party was new to Thai food. We ordered the chicken curry puffs, chicken satay and papaya salad - all were excellent. I had the Pad Thai, which was excellent. Our table also had the Drunken Noodle, which was done nicely. It was a pleasant atmosphere, with great food and all reasonably priced. It's the best Thai food I've had this side of Hoboken, NJ. Pros: outdoor seating, efficient service, great food for a reasonable price Cons: dessert choices were limited more
