Prokeys, Discount Locksmith 2/5/2012

So we called this company to open my boyfriends SUV, and clearly asked how much would it cost before requesting services. They estimated 59 dollars, bill was around 130.00 dollars. Apparently, 59 dollars is just for the call, and the rest is up to the person who opened the car. What an EASY way to make money, it took the locksmith less than 1 minute to open the door, but the worst thing is that they lied, and when we complained the company rep said that it was just an estimated, Come on? Stay away from this people, get a hanger or call the police, they might do it for free. more

Discount Locksmith, Inc; same rip off artists. Stay Away!!! 7/16/2011

Names are different but ProKeys is the same as Discount Locksmith, Inc. Check the phone numbers on the websites. Quote a price on the phone and bill $100. more. Same as everyone else says. Call them up to complain... they have been through this many times before as the handle with extreme malice. Try and find their address to file a complaint with BBB, not easy. But I have done it. They did a good job with the work even though the tech was 45 minutes late. I would not have used them if I knew the actual price. Towing the car to the dealer and having them do it would have cost $90 less than the charges the billed. more

BEWARE BEWARE / DO NOT USE / CROOKED / THEIVES 6/10/2011

READ THIS OR SUFFER I am astounded these people are still in business. I called to have a key made, there was no mention of the $55 service charge. OK fair enough, the $55 is mentioned in a recording that get before you actually speak to someone but it is really misleading to not mention it with the estimate. That part is irritating but getting charged an extra $300 to replace an ignition that worked perfectly before the repairman came is robbery. After I explained to the repairman that i would not pay to fix something that worked fine before he came and to get a manager on the phone he brushed me off and let me know he would take care of it at no additional cost to me. OK cool, you messed up, own it, fix it, we call it a day. He began to panic after 4 hours of incompetence and started to chain smoke and talk on his cell phone. Left the premises for about an hour. After 8hours for what was supposed to be a 1 hour job I was handed a bill and told that since I had signed for the initial amount I was accountable for any additional charges incurred during the key replacement. Furious as I was I stayed calm and called the home office. A rude woman said that if I wanted to take it up with her boss I could reach him in the Bahamas. WHAT. these people are crooked as they come and i PRAY someone READS this before using these criminals. my case is still pending with the company. more

Beware of the Hidden Labor Charge 8/30/2010

First of all they came an hour later than scheduled. They took 4 hours to do a 1 hour job and then charged me $150 for labor!!!!! I called in to request a quote and was NEVER informed of an hourly labor charge. When I called to complain the person who answered the phone was VERY RUDE. I guess this is what you get when you try to get the best deal possible. Next time I will go with a RESPECTED company!!!!!! more

Quick, Friendly Service w/a HIDDEN LABOR CHARGE 7/12/2010

I was pleased with the quick and timely service of the repairman that came out but was disturbed to find out that in addition to the $39 service call there was an additional $85 labor charge added that was not mentioned when I called (I called twice and asked twice and she didn't mention it at all)! What is the service call fee if it's not a labor charge?! Glad my lock's fixed but I feel scammed. Pros: quick showed up in an hour Cons: DIDN'T INFORM ME OF THE $85/HOUR LABOR CHARGE! more

Worst experience ever 5/25/2010

Pro Keys Discount Locksmith claims that is serves Chicago and Surrounding Suburbs. Well they do stick it to them anyways. My little brother lost his keys and we spent hours calling around to try to help him get a new key created. We finally found Pro Keys Discount Locksmith....or so we thought. Not only do they claim to be a 24/7 locksmith, and then said they could not make it out after 10:00 PM, but they also forgot to tell us that they price they quoted over the phone would only be half the cost. We were asked to have someone come out in the morning instead of at night, so I moved my schedule around to make sure I could be there as I would have to pay for him to get a key made. As a self employed individual myself I understand that time is money. So you can bet I was upset when they showed up a half hour late to start. But, then the tech. (Paul) actually did a pretty good job being helpful not only making the key, but jumping my brothers car as well. The only problem came when he gave me the invoice for $279.00, when I was quoted $155.00 for one key to be made. He claimed it is not his job to discuss the costs and I would have to call customer service and he took off. This is where it got real ugly. Robert the customer service representative could not have handled the situation worse. Not only did he continue to insult me by saying if $80 was a big deal to me, then he feels sorry for me, but he refused to address my actual concern. He stood by that only hookers quote their hourly rate before performing a service. I did not know where he was going with that, as well as several of his other comparisons he attempted to make. He forced the technician to get on the phone after claiming it should be his job to know the price, and to inform the client if there is a large price change before doing the job. The technician again claimed he did not do billing, and was no help discussing this issue. Robert then blurted out we are done, if you can't pay $80 dollars extra for someone to work in 88 degree weather I feel sorry for you. Really? I work as hard as I can to make a living for my family, and you feel sorry for me for getting upset when someone attempts to take money out of their pocket? He could not have been any more rude and obtrusive. I would suggest to RUN away from this company at all costs. Pros: Technician did a good job. Cons: Charged double quoted price, horrible customer service. more
