THIS PLACE IS WAY TOO UNDER-RATED. 3/15/2010

Been going here for years, never had one bad meal.If you don't like this place, then you must be ordering the wrong things, because Powells Seafood is the best. If i was being sentenced to death and they gave me my last meal of choice, i would choose powells seafood. My favorites; Sauteed Green Beans, Salt&Pepper Squid,Crispy Chicken,Walnut Shrimp, and General Tsao's Chicken. I used to go almost every Sunday with my family, but we moved farther away. but we still go often. Forget about Panda Express, go to POWELLS SEAFOOD. no joke. Pros: Delicious Food,Great Service,Fast,Afforable! Cons: not too crowded! more

Pros: cant sit and wait for food? come here. FAST. Cons: . more

Best Chinese/Mandarin restaurant in Portland 8/27/2009

I have been going here since I moved up from California in 2005. It is a great place to eat and it is where we take our friends and family when they are visiting us from out of town. They also catered my wedding and people absolutely loved the food!! Try: Salt & Pepper Squid, Seafood Fish Maw Soup, Ginger Crab, Beef & Broccoli, Chow Fun and their Fried Shrimp! You will not be disappointed. Pros: Fast, quick service, great food, affordable prices Cons: parking more

Frozen Food? 4/21/2009

I decided to try out a new local restaurant and stopped here by chance. I wasn't hungry enough for a full meal so just order the appetizer sampler. It was probably the worst appetizer I have had in recent memory. The barbecue pork was tough and discolored like it was stuck into a microwave too long. The fried shrimp and egg rolls looked and tasted like frozen, store bought, and tasteless. I took most of the meal to go and ended up throwing it in the trash when I got home. The other reviews here seemed to like this place but with the state of the appetizers I won't be going back to see if they buy pre-made main courses or not. more

Great Restaurant 1/6/2009

Most people would probably just drive by this restauant on Powell Blvd since it is very non-descript. The restauarant opened in either 1996 or 1997. We used to live near the restaurant and were regular customers - a couple times a month - through 1998 until we moved out of the area. We were usually the only Westerners in the place for the first few years. \r \r We still get to the resatuarant a couple times a year and the wait staff remember us as some of their original customers. The salt and pepper shrimp is consistently amazing. Another favorite is the sauteed green beans. Whole crispy fish is another tasty choice. There is a large vegetarian / vegan friendly selection on the menu, along with some very traditional Chinese selections. The brocolli with chili has a terrific kick of chili paste. \r \r It's great to go with a group of people and order about one dish for every two people since it is set up as ""family style"". The price is very reasonable for the quantitiy and quality of food you receive. Pros: salt and pepper shrimp, green beans, on the #9 Powell bus line Cons: no real parking lot, so you need to park on residential / side street more

Great customer service! 3/24/2008

Restaurant isn't roomy but great for families and GREAT customer service! Prices are also good. A very friendly place. Pros: Quick service Cons: Ventilation could improve more

never a bad visit 7/12/2007

Living in L.O I already have my beloved Wanfu Chinese Restaurant, but my best girl friends lives in SE and when I go met up with them we dine at Powells Seafood. The decor and outside apperance could use a little facelift but overall it's a comfortable environment and the waitress have worked there for years. She's super fast, prompt seating, hot food, never a bad visit. I recommend the salt and pepper squid, eggplant (chinese eggplant are better vs the american ones) and their hot clay pots are always good. oh, their lunch specials is a steal! Pros: great value and food portion, delicious, fast service Cons: newcomer tip: parking lot has limited spacing but there's always street parking! more

Best Chinese in town! 4/15/2007

Best Chinese, from a Chinese, to Chinese 7/28/2006

Alright, so I'm Chinese and I can say it is VERY hard to find great Chinese food in America. Most have Egg Foo Young and Americanized dishes like Chop Suey, not at Powells. Powells is the best Chinses I've had in Portland, FAR better than Chinatown. The Sal and Pepper Prawn (no shell) is to die for, the sauteed green beans are amazing, the crispy chicken in fab, and the chowfun is NUTS!! The prices are so cheap, you really can't get any better outside of China, and I speak from expierence :) Pros: Cheap, FAST, friendly Cons: none!! more

Tasty 10/14/2005

I've been going to Powell's Seafood since it first opened. The food is great although better when it first opened. The service is great, the waitresses have been there since it opened as well, and you can't beat the price/quantity. more
