I am soo exicited. After searching the 3/15/2012

I am soo exicited. After searching the city for a good groomer, I have finally found one. I took my standard poodle here and she got the best haircut of her life. Let me say that I have met a lot of groomers and as a whole they are a very odd bunch, but not here. On my first visit, Lindsay, the only groomer at the clinic, came out to met me and my girl. We spent about 15 minutes together as I explained the haircut I wanted. Guess what, when I picked her up she looked like what I asked for. I cannot express how great this was after some of the funky haircuts my poodle has had to walk around with. As far as I am concerned this is the only groomer in town. Go here and fast. You will not find a better groomer or value for your dollar!!!!!! Pros: null Cons: null more

I just brought my sick puppy into 3/12/2012

I just brought my sick puppy into Portland Animal Clinic and I feel so much better. I spent the whole day worrying about my little girl and I finally couldn't take it. Although I did not call ahead, I found the staff very friendly, knowledgeable and accomidating. They immediately anwsered my questions and began to care for my baby. It turns out I was worrying about a lot of nothing, but the staff and Doctor did not make me feel silly. Also as a first time client I got a kit that was probabally worth about $30 at the end of my appointment. It had Advantage and a sample of Science Diet to name a few items. All in all I was very satisfied and felt my money was well spent. Pros: null Cons: null more

I love this clinic. My dog has a 1/12/2012

I love this clinic. My dog has a complicated medical condition which Dr. Tulacz has diagnosed and managed with great care. I would not bring a pet of mine to another clinic even if they were free. Dr. Tulacz is very knowlegable and the staff really cares. I would highly recommend this clinic to others. Pros: null Cons: null more

Decent but not stellar service and/or knowledge 11/1/2011

I had my pet spayed there and while the procedure was successful I found the were not immediately helpful or forthcoming with aftercare information. I had to call and ask if it was normal to see some spot bleeding in my pet's urine and they said yes but it would have been nice to have been informed a little beforehand. I was told I could speak to the Dr before the procedure was performed and he had a slight demeanor/tone of being inconvenienced by my desire to ask questions beforehand. You have to ask a lot of your own questions and probe for details, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect certain questions to be addressed without the need to probe. At the office itself though the staff try to be friendly and accomodating, I just wish they were a little more informative at the outset. Pros: null Cons: null more

Caring Staff 5/3/2011

As I have just adopted my first dog and had really no idea what exactly was needed in to give my new family member proper care, I am so glad that this was the first clinic I called and eventually brought my pet to. They explained vaccines, pet food and flea products to me so I could understand. I swear I called them everyday for the first week with some pretty dumb questions ( If I do say so myself), but they alway took the time to anwser them. Also it seems to me that they only recommend services that are needed. It seemed like the staff really liked my dog. I would recemmend bringing your pet here. more

Great experience 4/22/2011

My pet was very sick and although I got the diagnosis for my pet's problem at another clinic I chose to get him treated at Portland Animal Clinic. I switched clinic's because the staff at Portland Animal Clinic took the time to fully explain what was going on with my pet. Unlike at the other clinic where they just told me I had one very expensive option. Portland Animal Clinic explained step by step what they would be doing to treat my pet. They also explained the reasons why my pet may have gotten ill and what I could expect after treatment. I also got an estimate for services so I knew what to expect cost wise. The staff also made me feel like they cared for my pet like he was one of their own pets. I could not ask for a better experience during a very trying time. more

They saved my cat's life. 3/14/2011

I had taken my cat to another "chain" clinic because he was not eating. This horrible clinic advised me to euthanize my animal. I took my cat to Dr. Tulacz for a second opinion and my cat's lived another 2 years. Although we eventually had to put my animal to sleep, thanks to Dr. Tulacz he had 2 more years of quality life. If I had listened to the other Dr. at the "chain clinic" I would have not had all that extra time. more

I trust my pets to no one else. 11/14/2010

I have been taking my pets to Portland Animal Clinic for over 10 years. When I call the clinic, nine out of ten times they recognize my voice and ask how my Goldie is doing. Dr. Tulacz is my docter every time and I see Carol, the main vet assistant every time I am in the clinic. This has been the standard for 10 years. This makes me feel that I am getting the best care possible because they know me and my baby girl, Goldie. From friends that have gone to other clinics, I hear sometimes the same docter is not even on staff anymore when your have a follow up visit. The other staff members are also very careing and wonderful and the clinic is not expensive. As a consumer who considers her dog a family member, I would not take her anywhere else. more

never seen anything like this 10/16/2009

when I first moved here, I had a working interview with the clinic. The first thing I noticed was the standard of cleanliness was quite poor. Old building, poorly maintained and very dirty. Cons: worst, dirties vet care i have ever seen in my life more

Really Caring 10/7/2009

In my experience, you have to treat people with respect to get respect. I don't know if that is what is going on here with the negative reviews, but ...I've seen some real high-strung people taking their pets to this vet (any vet, really...people get excited about their pets), and the staff and doctors deal with them the best they can. They took really good care of my cat, who finally needed to be put down at age 19. The doctor came to our house, so that my cat didn't have to suffer the car ride and being at a place with so many smells that terrified her. It was very loving and kind, to us and to our cat. Sure, they try to get you to purchase good food, and good flea killer, but not only because they would make a sale but because they believe it is the most healthful for the animals. Pros: Personalized service Cons: It's a Vet, after all more

Unprofessional and no love for your pet? 7/17/2009

We were a new couple to Portland and chose to go with Portland Animal Clinic because it was the closest vet clinic to us. This turned out to be the worst decision we have ever made for our pet. Over a period of 3 months they made up ailments that our puppy was having, only to treat these supposed problems with expensive and toxic meds that had very serious side effects. Pros: None Cons: Everything about this place more

Bait and switch.... . . 6/12/2009

I took my dog to Portland Animal Clinic for boarding. When I mentioned that I was worried about myt dog being lonely, the receptionist offered that they could walk my dog one or two times per day. Pros: location Cons: lots of hidden charges, not customer oriented, more

Just Plain Rude 5/27/2009

These people are just rude! God forbid you interrupt their lunch to bring your sick pet in for an appointment. I wouldn't subject my dog to these people again. Pros: Nice Building Cons: Horrible Customer Service more

excellent service and caring staff 7/7/2008

After taking my cat to Woodstock Animal Clinic and receiving very poor care/customer service I found Portland Animal Clinic. Essentially these people are healers. My cat was given life saving treatment; the staff was caring and personable; and I received ample time and information about the medical needs required. I would highly recommend this vet center. This is a vet center you can trust. The staff extended themselves on a day before a holiday; extra costs were avoided which would have included Emergency Care/Hospitalization. This facility is clean, and staff all work well together. Excellent. Pros: personable and caring staff; costs are reasonable; medical treatment is thorough Cons: none more

Happy poodles :) 3/27/2008

I have been bringing my two standard poodles here for grooming and boarding since they were puppies and have recieved nothing but exceptional service. The groomers rates are reasonable and she does a great job even when they are a total mess fresh from the beach! When I had to board the dogs last year to go out of town abruptly due to a family emergency they took them for two weeks with no reservation and I was actually suprised how reasonable the bill was even with the updated vaccine cost included. Excellent service overall and reasonable pricing. :) Pros: reasonable pricing, great service Cons: parking can be a bit of a challenge at times more

Best vet in town 3/11/2008

My cat was literally on his death bed, and Dr Tulacz was able to operate and save him. A couple years later he is still running strong. Dr Tulacz is very experienced, knowledgeable, and professional. I have receieved better service & care from Portland Animal Clinic than any other clinic I've dealt with, and would trust them with my pet's lives above any other. They definitely know their stuff, highly recommended. more

Poo on them! 12/4/2007

This vet suks! Last year I took my indoor-only cat for his rabies and distemper shots and the guy insisted that I get the leukemia one too, even though my previous vet said it wasn't necessary because he was an indoor cat. The wait was terrible too. They kept me waiting for an hour beyond when my appointment was scheduled claiming their clock stopped and they had no idea what time it was. Plus they had the wrong file and couldn't find the files I had faxed over. They weren't very professional or courteous to my cat and sent me on my way with a scared angry cat lying in a pet carrier covered in his urine and feces. I'll admit he doesn't like trips to the vet, but whatever they did to him in their back room, it wasn't followed up with a clean-up. Pros: they haven't caused my cats to die. Cons: rip-off, unkind to cats, pushy, subversive, unprofessional more

Please don't subject your pet to this place! 11/24/2007

I took my dog here to be groomed right before Thanksgiving. I asked for him to be clipped short, but when I got him back, the poor little guy was bald! In the middle of winter, the groomer had clipped him so short you could see every little freckle on his skin. He also had razor rash/burn. I mentioned the razor burn to the vet tech when checking out, she seemed nonchalant and unconcerned. "I don't know what that is. It should probably go away." That was the only answer I received. My dogs skin was so irritated, he was running around like crazy trying to "run away" from the pain. I called them on day three when he was still in pain, they asked me to bring him in for a no cost consultation. I don't use this vet, but I agreed because I wanted them to see what they had done to him. Surprise! They said it was an underlying problem all along! The vet was on the defensive, completely insensitive and rude. He would not listen to the possibility that it could have been done by their groomer. When I insisted that his skin had been razor burned, he dismissed me with "clippers don't burn, they're not hot." Thank you very much, but I'm not an idiot. My dog was red and raw and there were obvious clipper abrasions on his legs and head. When he insisted that it was a skin condition, I asked why they hadn't mentioned it when I checked out or when he was getting groomed. He didn't have an answer for that, but he said he had it in his notes, he didn't know why it wasn't mentioned to me. All of this, but they did call me in the middle of his grooming to tell me his vaccinations needed to be updated and his teeth needed a cleaning. They were "kind" enough to write up a $350 estimate for the job. The visit ended with the doctor forcibly yanking my dogs head down when I got up to leave. I asked for my money back for the grooming and they kicked me out of the clinic. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I left in tears. Please, Please don't take your pet to this place! Go to Burlingame Vet Clinic. Pros: downtown Cons: Horrible, rude vet. Incompetent groomer. more

Horrible Vet 6/19/2007

These reviews are interesting. I am presently looking for a vet in the general area and ran across this Clinic once again. I took a former pet (deceased now) to this clinic years ago and had a terrible experience with this insensitive, incompetent vet. Dr. Tulacz was far from compassionate and basically told me that all animals were here for our entertainment only. His attitude was terrible and I could tell he could have cared less about my cat. It was interesting to read that the others were just as unhappy with his services. I remember he tried to add on fees to services that were never rendered. My cat suffered a lot under his horrible care. Don't go to his vet. He is the worst Vet I have ever experienced. more

NEGLIGENT and OUT TO TAKE YOUR MONEY 1/2/2007

NEGLIGENT!!! Most recently I took my two dogs to board there for five days, and to be groomed and bathed the morning I picked them up. The larger dog had a joint swollen to the size of a tennis ball, which they failed to notice despite having bathed him that morning. I saw it when I brought him home, and immediately brought the dog back, where they saw the joint, acknowledged it was swollen, but never apologize for missing it, and not notifying the vet. You would THINK that boarding a dog in a vet clinic would mean you had well-trained staff to notice things like this. The vet did examined the dog free of charge, and administered a steroid injection to reduce the swelling. However, he did not inform me of any side effects this would have, and when I called to ask him, only his staff answered my question. He never called. I ended up taking the dog to Dove Lewis ER because my dog couldn't stop peeing all over the place, and they said it was due to the steroid injection. Another thing that has occurred several times with this clinic is that they hunt for extra charges to put on the bill. I have primarily used them for boarding, so they are not our primary vet, but they have often called my primary vet to ask what shots need to be updated, even if they are not needed at the time, and they tack on a physical examination fee too, WITHOUT NOTIFYING me. So the bill is ALWAYS a surprise. Another incredible way they try to add charges is to charge 5% if you use a debit or credit card. So I am finally sick and tired of them and with this last event, I am through with them. If there were a minus rating, I would go minus 10, because this facility is just out to steal your money and they don't even take good care of your dog. Don't go if you care about your dog! Pros: They take unfixed dogs for boarding Cons: Negligent boarding care more
