We took a class for home buyers, and Ken Meyer from Portico presented a segment on home inspection. Leaving the class that day we both agreed we wanted Ken to do any and all inspections we would need. Just his presentation that day convinced us that he was an extremely thorough and experienced inspector with a keen eye. We hired him several months later to inspect a house we put an offer on, and were further impressed. His report gave us a comprehensive account of the house's condition, and just from listening to his verbal explanation, I felt like I knew everything about the house that could be known. We submitted our repair addendum to the seller, knowing very well what all of the issues were with the house that we would be responsible for later, making it possible for us to buy with complete confidence. Hands down, the best home inspection process and report I've received among the half dozen I've purchased over the years. From beginning to end a very thorough, detailed and enjoyable process that met the high expectations created by the sample report on Portico's website. Ken spent more than three hours on my relatively small, but older home pointing out details and areas needing possible attention that I would have otherwise overlooked. One example: he spent more than half an hour on his stomach in the crawl space alone, identifying and photographing critical dwelling systems and issues needing attention that potentially saved me thousands of dollars. The written report was very detailed and well organized for use as a punch list of repairs as well as items needing on-going maintenance. I paid slightly more ($50) than the quotes I got from the big chains/franchises, but well worth the money. Did I mention that Ken was a pleasure to deal with? As a homeowner, this is one of the best investments you can make in your property. Highly recommend. more

I contacted Ken for an inspection around the Thanksgiving holiday in short order. He was able to quickly provide us with an inspection and did a great job. Ken is absolutely fantastic. My first ever home inspection and I couldn't have been more pleased with the process. First off, he was right on time, very pleasant to meet. Secondly, came with great equipment, made you think this guy was really good at what he does. Third, got right into the inspection and you could tell he was really looking at everything. One really unique thing he did was that it was too dangerous for him to go on my roof due to the angle of which he had to get up to the roof from the ground via ladder. So he used a very good camera and found the best vantage point to take a pic of the roof which then he advised me what kind of roof I have, why it's such a good roof, what to look for when it comes to replacing/repairing the roof, how best to maintain it. He showed me my neighbor's roof who has the same roof as I do and explained everything about my roof which really made me feel good about the home that I was getting myself into. At the end, he showed me a pic of basically everything that he inspected. Thankfully nothing was wrong with the house, but he still pointed out minor stuff that wouldn't really be a sellers job to fix that I should make better once the home is mine. We hired Ken to do a home inspection on a house built in 2005. He accommodated our schedule so we were able to be present for the inspection. Ken arrived at the property before we did and graciously interacted with us, the seller, and the 2 real estate agents that were present. My husband, David, is an engineer and this is our second home purchase. David especially appreciated how thorough and methodical Ken was as he went from the roof to the crawl space and all the places in between. Upon completion, Ken showed us the pictures and went over the few minor issues he had discovered. We were happy to have our questions answered on the spot. Our report, available just a few hours after the inspection, was organized, easy to follow and included suggestions for repair. After talking to several inspectors on the phone, we chose Ken. We are so pleased that we hired Ken from Portico to do our home inspection. He gave a presentation at a Homebuying 101 class that we took through the Portland Housing Center a couple years ago, and we were so impressed with his knowledge and personality that we said, "We need to hire *this* guy when the time comes!" Well, the time eventually did come...thank goodness we kept that business card! The day of the inspection, I arrived at the property about 10 minutes early, only to find Ken already busy at work on a ladder inspecting the roof. He is incredibly efficient. He took a bunch of digital photos that he showed us on site and later incorporated into a very thorough and detailed inspection report that he emailed us soon after. The report itself was remarkable. It was about 50 pages long, very well organized, and chock full of photos with color-coded commentary. Some comments were just observations intended to help us be aware of the various features of our home. Other comments detailed repairs that should be made sooner than later. As we create and check off our repair to-do list, we will be referring to this report a lot to help us prioritize our work. We are so grateful to Ken for putting it into such a helpful and user-friendly format so we can use it as a reference for years to come. One more thing to say about Ken: he has a wonderful, personable, professional, and friendly demeanor. I was incredibly nervous about the home inspection because the home is almost 100 years old, and his calm presence put me right at ease. He happily (and patiently) answered all of our questions, and made us feel that we had the right amount of knowledge to move ahead confidently with our purchase. It's obvious that Ken Meyer really knows his stuff. He doesn't rush the inspection process and takes the time to sit down with the prospective buyer to explain everything. This really helps to avoid overblowing items that are actually minor in nature. He takes good photos of everything he recommends to be fixed, which also helps a ton. more

Ken is one of those guys who shows up, and you just know it's going to go well. There are a lot of inspectors out there, but we were more than happy with Ken's professionalism and attitude throughout the entire process was top notch. His willingness to come out and inspect our home just a couple days after we called was amazing. He personally went over all the items needing repair, went into detail on each item, gave recommendations, and took a whole lot of really useful photos to help us along. Ken inspected our 1100 sq ft home on very short notice. He spent about 4 hours and talked to us throughout the inspection. He was very professional and friendly. After we bought the house we found some water damage under the carpet, which he would not have seen during the inspection. I emailed him photos and he came out that night to look and sent us a mini-report immediately at no charge. Ken responds quickly to emails and phone calls and I would recommend him to all our friends and we plan to use him when we buy our next house. more
