Highly Recommended for Piano Restorations 9/21/2011

If honesty, integrity are as important to you as quality and price, The Piano Mill is the place for your restoration.\r \r I was looking to do a complete restoration to my 1925 Ivers and Pond Baby Grand Piano. I had already gotten some prices for the job and even met with some other folks, but when I met Rob, the owner of The Piano Mill, I was very impressed. Rob came out to my house and thoroughly inspected my piano, he took the time to explain what was wrong and then, in a way I could understand, explained the work that needed to be done to bring my piano back to it's origional condition. \r \r Rob invited me to tour his shop in Hanson, prior to any work being done, and also said I was free to stop in at any point along the way to see the progress being made on my piano. I took full opportunity of this and many times stopped by and took pictures of the restoration process. Rob even showed me the old pin block he had removed and took the time again to explain and show me why it needed replacement.\r \r One thing which really impressed me was his willingness to work within my budget, we worked out an agreeement which benefited both of us and he even included an number of extra things such as new casters and a few other items which went the extra mile to make the piano 100 %, all within my budget.\r \r The piano is now completed and back in it's spot in our living room, and she looks and sounds amazing.\r \r Work done included: Removing the old pin block and hand making and installing a new one. Completely refinishing and repairing the origional soundboard (which looks gorgeous). Replacing Hammers, and dampener felts and regulation action. Restringing entire Piano. Sandblasting and rebronzing the Plate, New castors, new tuning pins, veneer repair, and other smaller misc. repairs. All work was done for the contracted price we agreed to . \r \r Rob even included a free tuning after the piano was delivered back to my house.\r \r I am delighted by the quality of the work done, and even more delighted listening to my kids playing on the piano.\r \r I highly recommend The Piano Mill for all your piano needs, they are very fair and honest folks.\r \r more

Fantastic piano store. great folks! 9/6/2011

I was looking to upgrade my 5'6"" CC Harvey baby grand piano and so I stopped into Piano Mill in Hanover, MA. I lived in the area for 20 years and long-since known of their shop on Rte. 53. It's a small, neat showroom with various types of new and used pianos - of all ranges in quality and price. I had ""test driven"" several models over the course of about 6-8 months. Each time coming in and looking around for about 30-60 minutes. Never did I get the impression that I was annoying them. Each time they'd make themselves available to me in the event I had any questions; each time they were friendly, knowledgable and willing to let me look over any piano I wished - and they were also willing to play each for me as well. Of course we all dream of owning a Steinway. Although, most of us realize that this is more of a dream than a practical purchase. However, during one of my visits the economy was going south and Rob (manager) took the time to discuss what I was looking for and made me an offer on a 1923 Model O grand that I couldn't refuse. His price included both restoration (complete tear down, refinishing of the plate and restringing as well as a ebonized case over the original walnut) AND installation of a QRS player system. (Steinways of the 20's are the absolute best of any years they've produced. A rebuilt / restored Steinway of this vintage -without the payer system- could easily command the 50k price range.) We negotiated on a price which - as I mentioned - included a complete tear down, bronzing of the plate, restringing, refinishing / ebonizing of the case, installation of the QRW player system as well. He also offered me a 600 credit on my old piano (which was fair for that piano) which I could use to cover the cost of shipping. (In my case I sold it outright and just paid the shipping price). I also was invited to tour his workshop in Hanson. I was personally introduced to each of the craftsmen who would be working on my piano. I also made periodic visits to photograph the process (which took a few months) prior to delivery. Once it was done and ready to be shipped, I came to the workshop for my first official test drive of my new piano. It was fantastic! I never dreamed I would be able to own a Steinway - much less a grand like this. While I didn't initially intend to spend what I did, I was able to buy an investment quality heirloom for LESS than 1/2 of the recently appraised price (and they even included a free tuning)! I've visited several piano stores in the past few years, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Piano Mill to anyone looking (or just dreaming) of owning a piano of any price range. more

Great experience! 8/30/2011

I highly recommend them. I searched for the perfect piano for many months, shopping from private sellers, visiting piano dealers and rebuilders across 2 states. I found my dream piano at the Piano Mill in Hanover Mass. It had been beautifully restored by them. Because it was an old piano but was expertly restored, it was something I could afford; a new piano of the same caliber would be out of the question for me. The prices at the Piano Mill are also more reasonable than at other dealers I went to. I found the staff and technicians to be skilled, professional and cheerful during the months it took me to make a final decision and to get my financing in place. I went to the showroom numerous times to ask questions and to play my dream piano?sometimes for hours on end. Each time I went I found everyone there to be knowledgeable and genuinely nice people. I encourage piano shoppers to see their wide range of piano options: new, lightly used, and restored/rebuilt old pianos. It was the best buying experience imaginable! more

Looking to get ripped off - Piano Mills ready to take you!!! 8/11/2011

Rob Norris is a crook!!! Sold us a piano long distance. It was advertized as like new and pristine. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS INDIVIDUAL UNLESS YOU GO TO THE STORE WITH A RPT. They are not to be trusted and are full of excused. We asked for a 5% refund on the purchase to cover costs of damage only. Piano Mill would not help at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, piano dealers like this should be out of business!!!\r \r \r more
