Editorial review from Citysearch 5/21/2013

Horrible. I lost my ticket so they couldn't find my shoes, and when i called a week later to check back in, they claimed i had picked them up and forgotten that I'd picked them up! I told him I'd email him a photo of the shoes (since he claimed they were black platforms, which they weren't) and he claimed he didn't have an email address. He was unbelievably rude and then hung up on me. These were two hundred dollar shoes that I had paid in advance to have fixed, and he refused to work with me to find them. He continuously told me to come into the shop after I had told him THREE times that I was no longer in NYC. I've never experienced such rude customer service in my life. more

Terrible Experience. How can this place remain in business? 3/5/2011

I went here one day when I didn't have time to go to my usual shoe repair place in Manhattan. The guy behind the counter who I assume was the owner of the store was extremely rude and gruff. I dropped off about four pairs of shoes for various heel and sole repairs, and I felt like he quoted me a ridiculously high price because all of the shoes were designer. He also charged me $20 for an insole that my husband normally pays $5 for at our Manhattan shoe repair place. When I went to pick up my shoes I was shocked at the craftsmanship. There was glue all over 3 of the shoes, and he polished a pair of caramel brown shoes in the wrong color and with another pair he applied so much polish that it was all over the buckles. I actually took one pair back after wearing them because the soles that he put on were so slippery that I fell. When I explained what happened the guy actually yelled at me, and refused to do anything about it. I amazed that this place is even in business. more

Avoid at all cost 11/29/2008

I dropped off two pairs of shoes last week, that needed to have the heels fixed. When I was dropping the shoes off, the owner commented on how I should have brought them in earlier - they would be really hard to fix in the state they are in now; all that was wrong was the tip of the heel was worn on both pairs - a typical repair i would think. When I come to pick up the shoes after two days, he asks for my ticket. I told him I didn't have a ticket because he never gave me one. He then says, did you sign in the book? I said, again, you didn't ask me to sign any book, so no, I didn't sign it. He says, ""Ok, come back in two days, I remember your shoes, I'll look for them"". I come back two days later, he had never looked for them. As he searches for my shoes, which are in a bag among another 100 bags or so, he begins to get frustrated, and starts saying ""I can't believe you lost your ticket"", ""i've worked here for 30 years, this never happens"" ""I can't believe you didn't sign the book, I didn't think you were going to lose your ticket, so I didn't ask you to sign it"" .....and on and on and on...for about 10 minutes as he's searching. By the time he locates the shoes, he is fuming. Finally, I said, ""I don't understand what the problem is, I dropped of the shoes, and paid upfront in full, the rest is your job"" - that made him YELL! So, i grabbed the shoes and walked out. WOW!!!!! THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! Moreover, once i looked at the shoes, they were not fixed well. So, never again. more

Abolutely Horrifying Experience 10/3/2008

This is the only place I have come to take my shoes in the past 4 years... Until yesterday. I would trek here form the city a few times a year. Last weekend I brought in 6 pairs of shoes to get re-soled... He used to charge me $25 per shoe (which I thought were manhattan prices, but I didn't mind b/c he did such a great job). Now he charged me $35 per shoe, and $40 for boots, which I don't understand since it was the same re-soling... I was annoyed because now I'm paying a premium to Manhattan prices - and adding the commute. I almost feel that price descrimination was applied to me b/c all of my shoes were high-end designer (manolo, louboutin,etc.)...and he kept on say these are expensive shoes - so he uses ""really good material"" \r Anyways, prices could have been forgiven, but what I won't forgive is the fact that they gave me my manolo boots back with both heels broken and mended. The guy tried to tell me it came in that way - which I will definitely say NO. I had only worn them a handful of times, granted they have a delicate 2 inch heel, but ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE to break both heels, then do a horrible job of repairing the heel (there was a bump on both heels where you could tell from a distance that they were broken and were horribly glued back together). I wanted to cry!.\r \r After fightiong with the owner, he kept on telling me that it was a manufacturer error, and that there was no reason for him to lie, and that he fixes very expensive shoes all the time (if so, wouldn't he have known to be more careful with the heel?)... I told him it was his error and horrible repair job. I'm so angry now - if I hadn't been price gauged in the first place, I may have had more sympathy - but paying 40%more than in the city started me in a foul place... I will never return. Pros: Used to do good work. Cons: mean and condescending more

Peerlessly shoddy and peerlessly rude--avoid at all costs 4/5/2008

I would give them 0 stars if the site allowed it. ""Peerless,"" as they so humorously call themselves, ruined my favorite pair of black heels. I brought them in for a very simple job: a broken ankle strap. The man who repaired the buckle attached it in the wrong place. When I picked them up, he begrudgingly agreed to put it right-- then reattached it in a different spot, leaving numerous gaping holes from his original work. He also used bright BLUE thread to repair the strap (which is unquestionably black). When I asked for my money back for this shoddy workmanship, he told me that I was too picky to expect him to fix a black shoe with black thread, and that there was nothing wrong with leaving holes in my shoe. He laughed, told me he was treating my complaint as a joke, and made several creepy (and nonsensical) remarks about how I should think of him as my father. Needless to say, his early remarks were infuriating and his later comments made me extremely uncomfortable.\r \r It's no wonder they require payment in advance. I spent $20 to repair a broken strap and ended up with a shoe that looks like it was chewed by a stray dog and repaired by blind person. They're Peerless, all right--peerlessly careless in their work and peerlessly rude in their customer service. Pros: Absolutely nothing Cons: Rudeness, dishonesty, terrible workmanship, offensive comments more

To be avoided 3/31/2008

I brought a pair of boots into this shop that had been poorly repaired by a different shoe guy. At Peerless they told me that they would stitch new soles on the boots and that they would last for years. Great, I thought. I paid the cash and took my ticket. Sure enough, when I picked up the boots, the soles were glued on--no stitching--and after being worm once, the soles started to peel off. I brought them back, they minimized the problem, explained that they could not be stitched and glued them again. The soles again peeled off. Don't use these crooks. Pros: nothing Cons: dishonest more

My shoes are like-new! 4/24/2007

This is the first time going there, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I read a review on Yelp dot com, which was very helpful. Anyways, these shoes I have worn pretty much to bits - bought new in 1999, first time getting them ""renewed"". He completely brought them back from the ""dead"". They look and feel great. Something to note, they are CASH ONLY. I'll definately take shoes back here again. more
