Let me first say that I have served in restaurants for over 10 years, including fine dining, and I am an avid cook. That said I am not all that critical about eating out. I become critical when the food is very expensive. Peak City is probably the most overpriced meal I have ever eaten, and I lived in Sarasota, FL for five years. We just ate there tonight and I am so frustrated. We cancelled reservations at a different restaurant to eat there based on the reviews on this website. I wish we hadn't. The food was actually pretty good, not great but good. I had Linguine with Clam Sauce and my husband had a Ribeye. The steak was $24 and a la carte. That's a Ruth's Chris price, but the flavor didn't touch a good steak house. My linguine was very good but not at all what I expected even though I asked the server to describe it. I almost shared it with my daughter and I am so glad I didn't because it was really spicy. I happen to like spicy food but I don't understand why that didn't come up prior to me ordering it. We paid $8 for a bowl of buttered noodles for my daughter. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was over breaded and over fried which made it greasy instead of light like it should be. The wine menu is a little lacking by the glass (for the white's) and that said they only pour about 10 by the glass and the servers had absolutely no knowledge about them. That is simply unacceptable. When I asked our server about the wine he told me he didn't drink wine. I don' t care if you drink wine or not it is very easy to learn basic descriptions. I ended up ordering a glass of something french that tasted like pear water and had to send it back. If the meal cost about 30% less I would have left pretty happy and only slightly annoyed at the server's lack of knowledge (they were attentive). When I spend $120 I expect superior knowledge about the food & wine. The atmosphere and entertainment were nice and I would return only for drinks & apps.
Pros: Cool atmosphere, nice staff
Cons: overpriced, staff lacked basic knowledge about food and wine
