My family and I ate at Las Vacas Gordas for my mom's birthday yesterday and it was great! They had the best tasting empanadas de carne that I've had in Miami by far. For my main dish I ordered the Bife de Chorizo and I loved it. The service was quick and the staff was very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. more

After years I went back to Las Vacas Gordas, I think for the last time. Food ok, Service horrible! They tried to sell me an over priced meat (not informing the actual price). They did not allow me to sit in a certain table, required a minimum purchase of 2 bottles of wine (at USD 150 each) to sit in this "special table", plus the over service was lengthy, to say the least.... more

i will never return to this restaurant. do not listen to server to order tomahawk steak because you will fall off your chair when you receive your bill after near non existent service and waiting an hour for my food...i almost did..the mediocre ribeye steak costs $72!!! the server never returned after delivering the check. i have never received worse service than tonight. i cannot emphasize to anyone how this establishment is not worth a long night of disappointment. do not give business to a restaurant that consists of servers not willing to give customers their deserved service. i was once a server myself..i am truly appalled. more

Great place to eat. The food is awsome! If you eat out alot you know if the place is packed the food is great. The service is going to be slow because of the amount of people eating the great food. The wait is worth it. The servers are busy and in the weeds. But when you get the meal it is worth every minute spent waiting! The owner ended up giving us 3 bottles of wine and desert after I paired. The owners are great loving & careing people. So warm. You have to eat here. I give this place a 10 on everything. The experience was amazing. This is my first time eating here and I will come back again & again. more

I know it used to be one of the first argentinean restaurants in Miami and that fact gave them some popularity; however, the last 10 years gave us lots of good argentinean places to go and especially where to have a nice and pleasant meal. \r Las vacas gordas is not a good steakhouse anymore. Their service is really bad (just read the reviews everywhere) and the owner (a very rude guy that happens not to be argentinean) doesn't understand that he's not alone in the steakhouse business as he was 10 years ago. The food quality is average so, since you can have better meat and the service you deserve, there are no more reasons to consider this place an option to go. more

Pass The steaks and meat are very good. The service is terrible with bad attitude to boot. Tries to push most expensive dishes and does not tell you that service is already added to your bill. You will also wait forever for your food. more

I am not sure how this place has managed to stay open this long. It is a concensus that it has the worst customer service of any establishment in the North Dade area. If you go there, please be prepared to overpay for a skirt steak and be treated so rudely that you are actually left in shock and speechless. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!!!! The staff is very slow and very obnoxious. You will have to wait a long, long time to be served and begged for service. more

I eat out often in my hometown of Miami -- a city not known for good service -- and during frequent trips to other cities --some with equally dubious customer service reputations. That being said - my worst experience dining out was at Las Vacas Gordas a few weeks ago. So many aspects of the evening was awful -- each one sufficient for ruining a meal out. \r \r Even though we had a reservation, we waited well over an hour to be seated. Throughout the wait, we were alternatively ignored or argued with by the hostess & the manager. (FYI, we would have left early in the wait if it hadn't been late on a weekend night with no other known alternatives nearby).\r \r Once seated I didn't expect that the evening could get worse--but then we met the (bald) waiter. His behavior was the rudest that I've ever experienced.\r \r We asked for tap water -- he said it was too much work --"I'd have to get ice, a water pitcher.." Then, he tried upselling each one of us with the more-expensive specials -- I said I'd like the veal; he said "no, not the veal, get the Kobe steak", no, I'd like the veal "no the Kobe steak is much better", this played out with everyone in our party. \r \r He would disappear for 20 min, then come back and make an insulting comment to one of us. This went on for another 2 hours. \r \r On our way out --after paying a tab that included an 18% tip -- he ran after us and in front of the restaurant -- on a crowded sidewalk -- he threw up his hands and yelled "Thanks for nothing!" \r \r Spend your money and time else. Anywhere else. more

AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT!! RUDE, OBNOXIOUS WAITERS & MANAGEMENT!\r \r I am not one to complain, but this place is a disaster. We showed up for our reservation on time, but were told we'd have a very short wait. We were a larger party of 9, so we understood. After 1/2 hour, we noticed an empty table of 10 which was going unused so we inquired about being seated at this table. We were told we could only sit there if we agreed to purchase 2 bottles of wine priced over $150 each! We declined. After waiting another 45 minutes, we asked the hostess and owner when we might be seated. We explained that we had a reservation but had waited over an hour to which the owner rudely responded, "Well, I have been here for over six hours!!" I was stunned when the manager started rudely yelling at other parties who were also waiting for tables.\r \r Finally, we were seated and had the worst experience ever with the obnoxious (bald headed, middle-aged male) waiter who badgered each of us to order the VERY overpriced KOBE beef rather than the steaks we were selecting. When I tried to order one of the less expensive Malbecs under $50/bottle he said they were "sold out" and kept pointing me to the $250 bottle! I am not making this up! At every turn, he kept rudely insisting that we order more expensive items than we wanted to order.\r \r Once we ordered our wine, he kept opening new bottles and pouring them, without first asking if we cared for another bottle. (We drank over six bottles, in the end.) They immediately started pouring bottled water without asking if we wanted ice water and the waiter responded, "That will take some time because I will need to get a pitcher and fill it with ice!"\r \r Frankly, we thought this was some kind of joke.\r \r The food was mediocre at best.\r \r Others were also complaining as they left the restaurant.\r \r To top it off, when we received the bill, an 18% tip was added which they refused to adjust downward.\r \r Oh, and they never did seat anyone at the empty table of 10 with the minimum 2 $150+ bottle requirement! \r \r These people are frauds! more

I never write reviews. My experience with Vacas Gordas was so profound that I had just had to write this.\r \r Took 2 hours to serve us when there was no line or wait.\r \r The meat they told us was very lean - was very stringy and fatty. This meat was $35. I'm a meat eater and at that price you deserve better quality. My wife could not even chew it. The staff had no simpathy and would not work with us to exchange it. They were actually very rude - owner and manager.\r \r They charge extra $5 per person you split a plate with. Yeah, thats right, $5 for a empty plate.\r \r They charge for water.\r \r $20 for a plate of mixed vegetables.\r \r Side dishes are very heavily salted - to the point where they hard to eat.\r \r Got there at 8:30pm on a Tuesday - left at 11:45. We had a baby with us. \r \r I was pretty disappointed with this place. We eat out very often and can say by experience - don't waste your time. It might look inviting on the outside - but after having a few talks with the manager and owner - we can definately say that Vacas Gordas is more concerned about the dollar than the quality and customer service.\r \r I could have gone into more detail about the night but I wanted to keep it short so one might actually read it. \r \r DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AT LAS VACAS GORDAS! more

Have been going here for over 10 years. The size of the entrana steak (enrollada) has been reduced by about 25% from previous years. This is why its now served on skinny long plates. It would look like a strand of spaghetti if it was served on the old normal size plates. Not saying its a small steak by any means. Just not the enrollada of old. It was either raise the price from an already high price ($22.99 for an entrana steak) or reduce the portion. Nothing lasts forever. more

Food is very good, large portions, reasonable prices, wine is also good. Service not the best one. I had to call the restaurant from my cell phone to get service on my table, after a 10-15min wait. Good rest, but slow , they are loosing money by being so sloooow! I wllgo back because of the ambience /food more

One of the best Steak Houses/Charasceteria's in Miami. However, don't go hungry as you can expect long waits coupled with very pushy waiters with a superiority complex. more
