Editorial review from Citysearch 6/19/2013

EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK: On November 5, 2012, my husband and I went to PF Chang's to celebrate our ""24th"" wedding anniversary. This was our second time at this restaurant located in Homestead. Within 60 minutes of finishing my GF meal, I became deathly ill. For the next 48 hours, I suffered severe FOOD POISONING. It was so intense that I couldn't manage to get inside the car to drive to the ER. Without going into detail, you get the picture. Long story short, the board of health believes it may have been the egg drop soup. All I know is that it was the worst food poisoning that I ever experienced and I will NEVER eat at this restaurant again. more

China? I think not 4/30/2011

PF Chang's is your typical Americanized version of ethnic food, but then what whould you expect when the founder is Patrick Flemming (Yes, that is what PF is for).\r \r Just not worth the effort if you really enjoy Oriental food. I would suggest crossing the tracks to West Homestead for Me Lyng's or travel to Oakland for the Oriental Kitchen, where the Oriental people actually eat.\r \r But, if Chef Boyardee is your versian of good Italian food, then go to Chang's for the Oriental food.\r \r more

Don't Bother! 1/17/2010

Summary: not worth the ridiculous wait! My wife and I have eaten at PF Chang's a few times -- it's very convenient when you're going to the movies. The food is OK, but I think there's much better Asian food in Pittsburgh. Recently, you simply can't just walk-in. The wait is 1-2 hours. This weekend, we made reservations a week in advance, since we went to see a movie beforehand. We showed up exactly on time, and were promptly handed a pager. Thinking it would only take a few minutes, we went to a store across the street. After 15-20 minutes, we went back, and the staff still couldn't tell us when we'd be seated. Frankly they were rude. What's the point of reservations if you're not going to honor them? I've *NEVER* been to a restaurant doesn't make every effort to seat people with reservations immediately. And nobody else is rude about it! Within about 10 minutes, we had driven to a better restaurant in Squirrel Hill and were already ordering food. Pros: OK food. Cons: Horrible 1-2 hour wait, Don't honor reservations! more

I love PF Changs 12/15/2008

I have eaten here many times over the last few years. I keep going back because the food is great and so is the service. They have an expansive menu and I've never had a a bad meal. The staff is very attentive and really know their menu well. They offer great choices of seasonings and will even mix for you personally per your own taste. I've tried many things on their menu and have never been disappointed. They also have an intersting dessert menu. The fried bananas over vanilla ice-cream drizzled with caramel - mmm mmm mmm! Pros: Great food and service Cons: Long waits any time of day - so do have reservations. The place is dark and was hard for my elderly father to read the menu there. (it's really dark) more

They do everything they can to make me want to come back... 10/30/2008

The food provided at P.F. Chang's is delicious. If you're overwhelmed by all the choices the menu has to offer, I suggest this thing they offer called a ""Limo Ride"". It's where you inform your server of your likes and dislikes, and also any allergies you or your companions may have, and then trust in the server to send out a reasonable amount of food for the table to share. It's amazing! They always send out an appropriate amount and they send the most delicious items! And NO, they do not try and gauge you by sending out the ""expensive"" dishes. The servers and bartenders definately put forth an effort to make sure you're getting things exactly as you want them. I feel they truly care. Many places make you feel like you're an inconvenience to the server, but definately NOT at Chang's! If you don't know much about Asian culture, they're actually knowledgeable. They even admit that they're food has an American twist to chinese cuisine (kinda like the tex-mex places aren't REALLY authentic mexican). So to those of you who feel they're trying to ""fool you"" with their cuisine I hope that now you understand. One personal favorite before I end this; definately stop up at the bar for a cocktail while you wait for your table. We always have a great time with their bartenders! Pros: service! food! more

Great overall 4/24/2008

The hostess' were friendly; service from beginning to end was efficient and accurate. The staff was knowledgeable of wines and dishes. The food was wonderful and our spouses were satisfied--big plus for hungry men. We had a reservation and did not wait on a Friday evening! Our first visit to P.F.Changs was very, very positive this April '08 and we will return soon. Pros: thumbs up Cons: a little noisy more

Too salty 3/8/2008

This always busy restaurant could rate more highly if they reduced the salt. The food is not particularly authentic, but it ""fits"" most western (white) palates (hence the popularity). The tableside sauce mixing is a ridiculous gimmick that does no exist elsewhere (for a reason). more

Good and tasty although rather American than Chinese 12/4/2007

In weekends, this place is mostly crowded and without a reservation you get to wait up to 90 minutes. The foods are really good, although they are mostly modified for American taste. I recommend the cabage wrap for appitizer and the mongolian beef. (Some foods I tried were not good but usually they are good.) The servers are usually friendly. It is a bit noisy but it is only because many people love to dine there! Pros: food and parking more

What is wrong with people? 6/16/2007

Honestly, I think that people who write mean reviews simply are cranky, mean people in life. I mean, come on! Read with a grain of salt. These are probably the same people who moan and whine about everything at work, who tell on you if you leave 2 minutes early and who hate everything and are never satisfied. \r PF Changs is great. It is a warm and friendly atomsphere, it's a beautiful restaurant, the food is fantastic and done well. I have never had a bad experience there and believe me, I've been to lots and lots of different restuarants. PF Changs is always clean, they put the guest first and they pride themselves on service.\r If you don't want to wait 3 hours, then I suggest you make a reservation. You can't go to a great restaurant and expect to sit immediately. There is a reason that you can sit down right away at some restuarants, hello.\r So to all the negative nellies, feel free to go find a ""mom and pop"" place the sells you chicken that is grey and discolored, but for those of you who like good food, go try Changs. You will not be disapointed.\r Thanks!\r Pros: Great food, friendly servers, casual, yet elegant. Cons: Negative people who complain about everything. Just no pleasing some people. more

Overrated 4/10/2007

I have visited on three seperate occasions and have not once had a satisfactory meal. The food is unimpressive at best. The service is good and the setting is beautiful, but I say go for a drink and eat chinese food elsewhere! Pros: Decor, service Cons: Food, price more

Worst Chinese on the Planet 3/29/2007

BAD CHINESE FOOD...FAUX AMBIANCE...OVER-PRICED...3-HOUR WAIT FOR A TABLE.\r \r What more can I say?? P.F. Chang's is my worst nightmare. more

Quality meats/seafood. 3/23/2007

Probably a little overpriced, but hey, its a chain. I really enjoyed the all white meat chicken dishes and the lettuce wraps were very good. Overall, I think the quality of the food is high, even if it is americanized. Pros: Cuts of meat Cons: wait time on a weekend more

Pleasant and Good. 9/17/2006

This is a great chain restaurant to eat at. Yes, it is not cheap but the quality of meat and seafood is better than most. Shrimp are nice sized and chicken is actual white meat. Kung Pao chicken is very flavorable. I have never had a problem with service but it definitely does not rival most non-chain chinese places where the servers are fantastic. Yes, it is not authentic chinese food but that doesn't mean its not good and there is no need to bash the place for it. I feel like some of these comments are made by people who just like waxing poetically about mom and pop authentic restaurants to act superior---I spent a summer in China. VERY VERY VERY little chinese food in the US is authentic and many of the Asians running chinese restaurants are not even chinese so really now.... Pros: Soup, Lunch and Ambience Cons: Lo Mein more

If you want good authentic Chinese food, don't go here. 9/4/2006

I figured this might be a decent place to go to dinner considering its reputation. However, the nice decor and bustling atmosphere belies some really bad Chinese food. The food was not authentic and I probably could have mixed up the same recipes for half the price by mixing ingredients from my local grocery store. We ordered the pan fried noodles and they tasted more like under-cooked spaghetti than the traditional dish. As another reader said, try a local mom and pop eatery instead. more

I'm sure it is possible for resturants to have off-nights, but I have never had a problem with P.F. Chang's. My office holds our holiday party there every year, and we've always enjoyed great service and wonderful food. The Won Ton soup is EXCEPTIONAL and the prices are reasonable, considering the portions and the great taste. Sure, it isn't the authentic Chinese food you can have delivered from the place down the street, but it is unique and yummy. In fact...I think I'll suggest it for dinner tonight! Pros: great food, friendly service, shops nearby Cons: can be crowded more

Not what you might think 1/18/2006

I went to this place because the name was recognizable. Boy was I disappointed. The food was average at the very best and very pricey. I'll pay to eat anywhere if it's worth it but this place was not not good. The food had no real flavor and the server seemed as if we were a bother to him. We just wanted dinner! One would be much better served going to a local, neighborhood place that offers real flavors, real value and larger portions. Save your dough, go someplace else. Pros: Looks nice inside Cons: Very pricey, Bland, Poor service more

Delicious 12/29/2005

If you're looking for a great chinese restaraunt with a nice atmosphere this is the place. With all these tiny chinese places popping up serving fat covered chicken and half cooked shrimp it is such a relief to know that PF Changs is a safe place to eat. The have a great variety and everything there is delicious. Pros: Great food, Nice atmosphere, Good service more

What the... 10/1/2005

I cannot believe the hype this place gets. I have had some very affluent people highly reccomend this place, so of course we tried it. It was AWFUL! If you literally believe that this is ""good"" Chinese Food, you have clearly never tasted authentic Chinese cuisine. Find a good ""Ma and Pops"" kind of place for best authentic cuisine. I can't believe how many people are smitten by mediocrity. I guess even wealth can't buy intelligence. LOL Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere... Cons: terrible food, long waiting lines, crowded and loud more

What's the Big Deal? 5/1/2005

I don't know how this place could be rated #1 Chinese food! It is cooked by Americans and is very over priced! The best Chinese food you can get comes from a little Chinese restaurant owned and cooked by real Chinese people! Any of these little places you find makes better food than P.F. Changs! Also, why pay $20 to eat when you can pay $10 to eat better food at a smaller more intimate restaurant? Also, the smaller restaurants are not as crowded so the service is better and it is more personable, also you usually don't have to wait for a seat! Don't go to P.F. Changs for real good Chinese... find a little place by your house! more
