Tapas on the westside, Sawtelle 4/10/2006

Me and my girlfriend stopped by on Sat. night and had three dishes. The tapas place was cozy/cramped with a patio, we sat inside. The braised duck was okay, I didn't think it was anything special. I think the duck would taste better hot. The fried chicken came with an interesting tangy sauce. The ravioli mushroom cream sauce was really good, bread was provided to dip with, the ravioli reminded me too much of wontons. The service was good. We were seated in 20 minutes. I didn't know the rear parking lot charged ($2.50) valet...I ended up parking my own car too. If I ever go back, I would skip the first two dishes, go for the fish dishes and perhaps the shrimp tempura too. Pros: Service, Lots of Wines, Good Menu Selection Cons: Parking charges Sat., Overrated more

Do NOT go for lunch!! 3/12/2006

I took my husband to lunch for his birthday at Orris after reading favorable reviews of their dinners. It was a most disappointing lunch for both us. The choices were extememly limited. The sandwiches were not palatable. Please do yourself a favor and don't have lunch here. What a fiasco!!!!! more

A nice variation to Little Osaka 2/26/2006

A couple of the reviews on Citysearch I read before going to dinner here said Orris was overpriced. I didn't find that to be the case at all. The tapas was creative, tasty, and reasonably priced. The pacing with which the dishes were brought was perfect. True, they could do away with the old sushi bar and make better use of the space. But I'd recommend it. Do yourself a favor and stay for dessert. Pros: tasty food, well-timed Cons: kind of cramped more

Absolutely Outstanding! 9/16/2005

I run into people all over that can't stop talking about this restaurant. Shiro is a brave chef with a wide open kitchen. We get there early, love sitting a the counter and watching the handmade action. I arrive craving the mousse ravioli and wait with anticipation for each not so small dish to be served and tempted to sample every item on the menu. I make new discoveries each time I dine here and I am greatly impressed with the unusual combination of flavors. It's remarkably inexpensive. Pros: Good Parking, Outdoor Dinning Patio, Beautiful more

Bad tapas and over priced! 6/1/2005

This place is a joke. Orris is pretty expensive and the tapas were the worst we've ever had! Also, we trusted their wine suggestion. That was a big mistake. Save your money and go somewhere else. Cons: Food Quality, Price, Wine more

Unparalleled Global Cuisine 5/25/2005

Orris brings together what is so great about all of the diverse cuisines that LA is known for. The smoked sea bass is a favorite! Pros: Small plates, So much to try more

My Favorite Resturant!!!! 5/25/2005

This is the best place ever! Where else can you try different dishes at this level of QUALITY! I hear that the Chief will not serve a dish unless it's to his standards. The staff cares about their food and their client's experience. You can feel the positive experience that everyone is having by enjoying their delicious food. Quality Service with Quality Food! more

Orris-some! 4/26/2005

This little restaurant is really awesome - the highlight is by far the amazing food. Sevice is very good and extremely friendly. The layout of the restaurant is not really great - it seems like they could have more tables (and you wouldn't have to wait so long) if they didn't have the food counter that looks like it is a leftover sushi bar from the previous restaurant. The tapas-style dishes are prepared with much care and attention to detail - such inspiration and presentation you could only get from the mind of a Chef like Hideo Yamashiro. I had the pleasure of meeting him after my dinner and he was a really nice gentleman. My favorite dishes were the pink snapper carpaccio and Kobe beef tournadoes. Pros: imaginative menu Cons: small restaurant, long waits, "cozy seating" more

Soooooo Gooooood!!!!!! 3/4/2005

Oh My God!!!!! That food was so great!!!! Yes, it is a bit spendy ($50/person), but worth every penny. It is served tapas-style, so you could eat less and spend less, but once you have started, you won't be able to stop until your belly hurts. The wait staff is super friendly and all of their recommendations were spot-on. If you like the standard sushi house sake, you'll love their premium sake. Pros: absolutely delicious, super friendly Cons: A little noisy, No reservations more

WOW!!! 12/22/2004

This place has got to be my new favorite spot to dine when I'm in the mood for fine dining, without the crazy wait and without all the pretentiousness. The staff is top notch and you can tell by the looks on the customers faces that they are truly enjoying the food. I tried almost every dish on the menu and was impressed by each. Whoever thought beets and goatcheese would go well together? And I don't even like beets! My favorite dish was the duck. Very tender and tasted superb. Orris gets an A+ Pros: Attentive staff, Good valet parking more

Can I say 'bomb' on this airplane? 12/8/2004

Because Orris is the bomb. The plates are carefully prepared for both a beautiful presentation and a pleasurable eating experience. I had to go until I had found my favorite dish. I've now tried the entire menu a couple times over, and I'm still trying to figure my choice. more
